3 Grading Scale Constantly deviates from the Standards Occasionally deviates from the standards Adheres at an acceptable level to the Standards Seldom deviates from the standards Never deviates from the Standards

4 Criteria - Arrival Time Arrives at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time Utilizes time in pregame rituals

5 Criteria Appearance Uniform is clean and neat (wrinkle free) Shoes are clean and shined Facial hair is neatly trimmed if present Hair is neatly groomed not to detract from overall appearance Fines will be levied for any grade below an AVERAGE (2)

6 Criteria - Pregame Umpire conducts pregame with partner with sufficient detail to outline responsibilities Conducts plate conference if UIC otherwise remains quiet

7 Criteria Post Game Accompanies partner from field to car Reviews performance actively Asks questions Provides partner feedback Remains in the parking lot until both vehicles start properly or dismissed by partner

8 Criteria Partner Coms Begins all communication with eye contact Uses somewhat discreet signals prior to play Verbalizes ball responsibility Verbalizes changing coverages Reacts to broken plays

9 Criteria Coach Coms Conducts himself professionally Treats coach as an umpire wants to be treated Utilizes natural pauses in game to communicate with coaches Respects the coaches turf and conducts conferences in neutral territory

10 Criteria Reaction to Pressure Strike zone does not change Body language remains positive Continues mechanics properly Does not over-react Continues to THINK logically

11 Criteria Game Control Utilizes the players to communicate when possible Keeps a ball in play Replenishes ball supply between innings Never runs out of baseballs Gets situation strikes Controls time between innings

13 Criteria Hustle Runs athletically and keeps pace with players Works to better positioning Reacts to developing plays Does not walk on the field except in cases too short to properly jog to position

14 Criteria Knowledge & Interpretation of Rules Adheres to and applies the rules as written or interpreted by the association

15 Criteria Plate Mechanics Proper head height and in the slot, not overtop or on the otherside, allows unobstructed view of entire plate Locks in Eyes Remain horizontal with ground and do not dip as game wears on Does not flinch or drift with pitches Does not set unusually high or deep as to draw attention or questioning of judgement Takes plays at the plate 3 rd baseline extended or point of plate and properly adjusts

16 Criteria Base Mechanics Attains the appropriate angle and distance for plays Not too close or too far from play Works to get angle OVER distance when appropriate Adjusts positions for poor throws or unusual plays Reacts instinctively to situations

17 Criteria Strike Zone Calls consistent zone Correct Size for playing ability Doesn t change after situation Gets situation strikes Does show when misses a pitch

27 Process From There Committee votes on-line for every umpire evaluated Considers Evaluation Score Remarks Games Worked Time In Grade Test Score Results are tabulated and committee meets to discuss all split votes (5-, -5)

28 Appeals All officials are eligible to come before the committee to address their ranking Committee provides opportunities within the umpires skill set for improvement leading to consideration for the next grade All officials also can take the issue up with their Delegate as well.
