2 welcome Welcome to round 5 of the Calder Stewart Cycling Series, the Small Business Accounting Methven Grand Prix. This is the first time a Calder Stewart Cycling Series event has started from Methven as previous Ashburton rounds have been on the slightly flatter course near the Ashburton Coastline. The round sponsor is none other than the famous Stu Lowe who started out his cycling career in Ashburton as a youngster. As a young fella he had many a tussle in many a race with one half of Revolution Events, Richard, and they have raced on many teams together. It s great to see Stu supporting the series, local cycling and still riding the bike after all these years. It is clear he is still very competitive as well! Stu now runs the Ashburton Office of Small Business Accounting and is excited to see a Calder Stewart Cycling Series round in his backyard and is supporting the event with naming rights sponsorship of the round. Take away the two gorge climbs and it is still a tough route so expect the unexpected with the terrain. The ride profile does not really show how hard this will be. As well as tough terrain the course offers great scenery, with the Southern Alps as the dramatic backdrop. A huge thanks to the Tinwald Cycling Club for the marshalls and lead car drivers. 4 Course Description Elite Men: 93km Masters 93km Women: 93km Round five of the 2016 Calder Stewart Cycling Series starts in Methven and heads into the Rakaia Gorge then turns into Coleridge Road to Lake Coleridge. The course winds its way past Terrace Downs all the way to Coleridge Township where riders complete a U turn and follow the same route back to the start/finish in Methven. The return leg through the Rakaia Gorge is the obvious race breaker as this side is the more difficult ascent. Sign in and presentations are at the Methven Rugby Club, Methven Chertsey Rd, Methven Riders will form up on Racecourse Ave near State Highway 77 for the start. The finish will be north of the Racecourse Ave intersection. 4
