1 WILD RIVERS COAST SCENIC BIKEWAY WORK-SESSION NOTES OREGON BICYCLE TOURISM STUDIO MARCH 24, 2015 PORT ORFORD, OR OUTDOOR RECREATION: EXISTING TOURISM ACTION TEAMS UPDATES: these teams were formed as a part of the work with the Rural Tourism Studio, which took place in WRC in Hard copy and online map that showcases outdoor recreation opportunities in region Focusing on all biking, hiking, paddling, birding MARKETING: WRC Alliance is the convener TravelOregon.com/WildRiversCoast is a landing page for all tourism related things to live in region working to populate this EAT FRESH AND LOCAL: Farm tours and spirit tours taking place to connect food makers and producers with restaurants and consumers Green drinks

2 BIKE DESTINATION ASSETS NEEDS/GOALS FOR BIKEWAY: Parentheses = amount of votes INFRASTRUCTURE BUSINESS SERVICES EVENTS MARKETING & Water at Cape Blanco Designated spot Water at Elk River (Paradise Point) Water at Port Orford Head (put faucet in back) (2) Bike racks at Cape Blanco, Elk River Paradise Point, Hughes House, Boat Launch (2) Caution Bikes on Roadway signs especially on Elk River Road (4) Business owner/front Line Staff prepared with Toolkit that has a folder with all the Bikeway Info so that when visitors come they know everything hey my need (Tie this into the Bike Friendly Business Program) -- Inventory Amenities on route including businesses, buses/transportation, bike repair/rental, Curry Coastal Bus and how you flag down, Other infrastructure/resources for riders, tour guide for route, what phone numbers if in emergency, include PDF Maps/Turn by turn Sheet Distribute WRC Bikeway PDF Map to local businesses (so they have it as a handout/ quick reference) (3) Bike Repair /fix it station at gas stations and at the bike shop Incorporating bikeway into existing events including music festivals, 4 th of July Jubilee, State Parks Day, Coos Day, Light House Day AND Incorporate Bikeway into any new events going on specifically with Tourism Action Teams (2) Geo-caching/ quests event? Ribbon cutting ceremony / Bikeway kick off event (3) COMMUNICAITONS Interpretive signs at the 3 historic sites and making sure those points of interest are on the Bikeway Map (possibly having wayfinding to the historical sites) Develop info for bikeway at visitor center and welcoming atmosphere /knowledge (2) Getting Bikeway website link on other websites such as USFS, Chambers, local businesses, etc (2) Designate long-term car parking (day and overnight) Local Advocacy Group Cycling Itineraries

4 TOP 3 BIKEWAY GOALS: LEADS AND INTITIAL ACTION STEPS To include in Bikeway Plan PROJECT NAME: Bikeway Ribbon Cutting Ceremony PROJECT LEAD: Tourism Action Team Leads (ORAT Tyson Rasor, Marketing Marie Simonds, and EFL Kathy Boden) 1. Upon Designation in July 2015, Action Team leads will meet to set 2016 date and determine next steps 2. Eat Fresh and Local Action Team would help to provide food for event (Kathy Boden) 3. Marketing Action Team to help with outreach to media and consumers TARGET DATE: September 2016 PROJECT NAME: Caution Bikes on Roadway signs especially on Elk River Road PROJECT LEAD: Lorelei Haukness, USFS 1. March 25, 2015 Tyson will contact Lorelei to let her know this 2. USFS needs to compile list of exact location of signs and how many 3. State Parks and Recreation Dept (Alex Phillips) needs these by March 30, 2015 to purchase 4. USFS will install INTO FUTURE: 5. Consider other locations to have caution signs like Cape Blanco and other Heads ( the various road jurisdictions are going to need to be included in these conversations/decision-making) 6. Obtain Bikeway User feedback to dictate future sign locations/if needed PROJECT NAME: Business Owner/Front Line Staff prepared with Bikeway Toolkit PROJECT LEADS: Tyson Rasor, John Shipp, and Karl Maxon (and maybe Laurie Price?) 1. Upon Bikeway Designation in July 2015, Leads to meet to flush out what tools need to be in Business Toolkit and how to do the outreach 2. Marie will take this to the Marketing Tourism Action Team to let them know this is a prioritized goal of Bikeway and see how they will/can help 3. Review list of past folks that signed up to do outreach to businesses in their communities from Bike Tourism Studio in Oct 2013 they can likely help with outreach

5 BIKEWAY DECISION MADE: Wild Rivers Coast Alliance will be the MOU signer with State Parks and Recreation Dept. to help be the convener of the Bikeway Proponent Group and moving forward into future to help the Bikeway be sustainable and successful. Additional Proponent Group members are expected to remain involved and help be lead on Bikeway Goals into future.
