This wristband identifies you as an official participant of the Wrigley Field Road Tour and must be worn at all times during the event. It will also be used to admit you to the ballpark and serve as verification when you collect your gear bag and bike after the ride and party. BIB NUMBERS During packet pick- up you will receive your rider bib number. Please position your number as demonstrated here. Your bib number will also include a detachable bike number and gear check tag. Secure the bike number to the top tube of your bicycle and the gear check tag to your gear bag. Please note, you will not be allowed to leave or remove your bicycle or gear bag at the ride finish without your wristband affixed to your wrist. If your jersey is not the size you prefer, we are not able to exchange your jersey for a different size until after the ride. You will need to leave your unused jersey (in original packing) with packet pick- up staff and fill out a simple form to request a different size at that time. Re- order will be placed approximately one week after the ride with a lead- time of six weeks. 2

4 PARKING Car parking is available in the Green Lot at Wrigley Field (map on page 12), located at the corner of Grace St. and Clifton Ave., 1126 W. Grace St. Your car can remain in this lot until the post- ride party concludes. Your car cannot remain in the lot overnight. RIDER DROP- OFF The start area for the ride is the Wrigley Field Blue Lot on Waveland Ave. between Clark St. and Clifton Ave. Riders who are dropped off by car before the ride start may want to unload their bike and gear bag on Clark St. or Waveland Ave. (west of Clark) and approach the start area on foot with their bike. There can be a lot of congestion, foot traffic and bicycles right at the start area, so you will find it much easier to unload your vehicle a short distance from this area. GEAR CHECK You can drop off a small gear bag for safekeeping until your return to Wrigley Field on ride day in the Wrigley Field Gold Lot; please remember to attach your gear check tag to your bag for identification. Please limit yourself to one gear bag so as to ensure your belongings stay together. Please include a towel in your gear bag if you plan to shower after the ride. Refer to the Rider Checklist at the back of this guide for suggested gear. We recommend a small backpack! RIDE START Riders will congregate in the nearby Blue Lot to stage for the Wrigley Field Road Tour start. Look for the red SRAM Arch. Final announcements will be made in the Blue Lot at 7:4 a.m. and riders will depart at 8:00 a.m. Riders will be staged in three groups based on estimated time of completion. Staging for these groups is self assigned and will simply allow us to get everyone on the road without any traffic jams. Group 1 riders expecting to finish under six hours Group 2 riders expecting to finish between six and eight hours Group 3 riders expecting to finish over eight hours ROUTE The route will be clearly marked with extensive signage. In addition, ride marshals will accompany riders by bicycle and at times by motorcycle. The route is available online at: and can be downloaded to your iphone, Blackberry, or Garmin device. Cue sheets with turn- by- turn directions will be provided at a later date via online at: 3

Once you enter the concourse, Bike Check will be on your left. RESTROOMS The Men s Restrooms are located to the left as you enter Gate K. The Women s Restrooms are located further into the concourse on the right side. BIKE CHECK Bikes will be stored on racks sorted by bib number. Volunteers will assist riders in dropping off their bikes for safe storage during the on- field party. When you collect your bike after the party, please refer to your wristband for your bike location. GEAR CHECK Once inside Wrigley Field, please show your wristband to collect your gear bag. You may re- check your gear bag after you have showered or changed clothes. After the ride, you will be able to bring your gear bag into the ballpark, but you may not place your bag on the grass at any time. If you bring a bag into the field area you must leave it on the gravel area or in the seats. T- SHIRTS Riders can collect their 2012 Wrigley Field Road Tour t- shirts in the Concourse next to Gear Check. We will provide you with the t- shirt size you ordered when you registered for the ride. There will be no t- shirt exchange or re- order available. SHOWERS If riders would like to shower, there are limited facilities available. Men s showers and changing will be available in the Visiting Team Locker Room. These facilities offer great history, but less privacy. Women s showers and changing facilities will be available in the Umpire Locker Room. These facilities offer two full showers in addition to the sinks and changing area. Locker room attendants will allow a set number of riders in the rest room at one time so please be patient! It is advised to pack along wet wipes for clean up in the case you would like to bypass a shower. If you do elect to shower, please remember to bring a small towel. LOST AND FOUND Lost and Found is located at Gear Check. Any items found during the course of the event will be collected and available at Gear Check until after the party. Any items not collected by the end of the event will be held at the offices of World Bicycle Relief and can be collected after the event during normal business hours. Event organizers are not responsible for lost items.

7 POST- RIDE PARTY All riders are invited to join us for the Wrigley Field Road Tour post- ride party ON Wrigley Field. You will also be treated to an all- you- can eat BBQ dinner on the field and a performance by Chicago s very own Poi Dog Pondering! There are a few rules that we require riders to observe. These include: - No plastic on the field. - No plastic picnic blankets on the field. - No backpacks or gear bags on the field. - No popcorn on the field. Riders can enter onto Wrigley Field from the shower areas or from the entrances near Bike Check and Gate K. While the infield will not be available (no running of bases), riders are encouraged to bring a mitt and ball to toss on the field. The dugouts will be open. Slides will be available for younger or young- at- heart guests. 8 PERSONAL SAFETY, TRAFFIC LAWS, AND GROUP RIDING For your own safety, always wear a helmet. Please remember that members of the local community will be using the route motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Realize that you are an ambassador for the sport and for this event, and that the impact of your actions is far- reaching. When you re out riding the course, please adhere to local traffic laws and go the extra mile to be courteous and respectful to the residents of the local community. Under Illinois law, cyclists are operating vehicles and thus have both rights and responsibilities when sharing the road with motorists. We suggest you balance safety and courtesy by riding as far to the right as is safe, and that you look behind you before moving to the left if you are passing a rider or avoiding a piece of broken pavement. Riders may ride two- abreast in Illinois. Violators may be cited. The communities through which we will be riding experience significant traffic from both motorists and groups of cyclists, and are very likely to enforce the two- abreast rule. You are required to carry proper identification at all times. If you are stopped, you must present your identification to the inquiring officer. Failure to do so may result in a citation. When riding on roads with motorists and other cyclists, your ability to signal your intended movements is a key to safety. Using hand signals helps communicate your intentions to motorists and to other riders. The basic hand signals are: Left turn: Extend your left arm to the left Right turn: Extend your right arm to the right or bend your left arm up at a 90- degree angle (the left arm signal for a right turn means that you are signaling on the side where motorists are more likely to see you, and you won t have to take your right hand off of your rear- wheel brake) Stop: Using your left hand, make a stop motion with your palm, either at your left hip or behind you in the small of your back If you intend to pass another rider please call out loudly On your left to alert riders of your intentions. If you are unfamiliar with riding in a group and find yourself in a group on the ride, a few simple tips can keep you and your fellow cyclists safe. If you are riding behind someone else, adjust your speed so that your front wheel is not overlapping with their rear wheel. If someone is riding behind you, do not brake abruptly, because the riders behind you may not be able to respond quickly to your braking. Making your acceleration and braking as smooth and gradual as possible increases the safety of group rides; you should also use a hand signal to indicate that you are braking if you can do so safely and comfortably. Finally, pay attention to the road in front of you and the rear wheel of the rider in front of you, even if you are having a nice chat with the rider next to you. Staying alert to changes in the road and in the speed of the cyclists ahead of you will enable you to change your speed gradually. If you and a friend plan to chat during the ride, you should avoid riding with a group, because distracted riding is potentially dangerous to other riders in the group. Please do not use private property as a toilet. There are plenty of local stores along the way with public restrooms; please use them and plan ahead to the extent possible when you encounter one of the organized rest stops. Do not litter. Keep your energy bar and gel wrappers with you until you can find a trashcan. 7

9 If you lose your way during the event and cannot independently relocate the route, please call the Emergency Call Center number listed below. Should the need arise you will be ushered forward to ensure you remain within the moving group of riders. In case of extreme weather stop riding and seek shelter. You are responsible for ensuring your own safety and making the appropriate judgment call. Seek shelter until the weather has cleared. If you wish to terminate your participation due to safety concerns you must contact the event sponsor and arrange for transportation to the finish. PERSONAL COMMUNICATION PLAN Prior to departing, be sure to establish a communication plan with family and friends back home. Share the event day emergency contact listed below with those who may need to reach you in an emergency. Even if you are riding with family and friends, it is important that you have a plan for contacting or reuniting with your group following the race. The Route Map section above lists the street addresses of the rest stops along the route. Sharing those addresses with family or friends who are not at the event may better enable them to come to your assistance if necessary. RIDE DAY CALL CENTER WFRT (9378) MEDICAL INFORMATION All medical expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of the rider and not the event sponsors. Particular dangers include dehydration, hyponatremia, sunburn, exhaustion and injuries sustained from accidents. Please ask for medical help if you have the slightest hint you may need it. You will be withdrawn from the remainder of the ride only if you require transportation, IV fluids or if medical personnel feel your continued participation could result in serious harm. During events of endurance, the body s pain threshold is raised, and you may be in more trouble than you realize. The medical personnel will do all they can to keep you in the ride and assure a safe finish. Stay with your familiar and proven routine regarding training, nutrition, hydration, and equipment, especially just prior to the event. This also applies to pre- event dietary intake and medications. Adequate salt intake during training and during the event is especially important. If you are taking any medications, or have any medical problem that may influence your performance or your treatment in the event of an injury, advise us of all necessary details well in advance of race day, and carry information about your medications and medical condition with you (one convenient way to do so is to use an emergency information service, such as RoadID or ExtremeID). At rider check- in, you are required to notify the medical team, in writing, if there is any change in your medical status/condition after your application has been processed. If you have a medical emergency please note that we will have an ambulance following the ride as well as medical personnel at the rest stops. Call the Race Day Emergency Contact immediately or dial 911. PLEASE NOTE: Full disclosure of medical condition(s), general health and surgical procedures within the previous 12 months is required. Medical consultation/clearance may be necessary from an attending physician prior to participating in the event. In all cases, the final decision of medical consideration is at the discretion of the event organizers. 8

10 SAG SUPPORT Four SAG vehicles (two SRAM, one Zipp and one Scott) will be on course the day of the event. Should you experience technical difficulties during the ride and cannot attend to the issue on your own please contact the Ride Day Call Center by phone. They will help to dispatch service to you as quickly as possible. Inform the call center of your location on the course referencing the mile markers as noted in your cue sheet. If you experience difficulties completing the ride, we will have several 1 passengers on duty that can drive you and your bicycle the remainder of the way back to Wrigley Field. RIDE MARSHALS RIDE DAY CALL CENTER WFRT (9378) In addition to the SAG support vehicles, Ride Marshals will assist Wrigley Field Road Tour participants along the route. Ride Marshals will ride bicycles on course to provide a first line of response to aid WFRT riders in need. All marshals will be noted with a highly visible safety vest. Please feel free to ask a Ride Marshal to assist you at any point on the ride or if you require assistance getting in touch with the Ride Day Call Center. RIDER RESPONSIBILITIES You must sign a release waiver in order to participate. This will be completed at time of registration. If you choose not to ride, you are responsible for informing event organizers. If you voluntarily end short of finish you must inform event organizers. TECHNICAL TIPS Bike inspection is not mandatory and will not be provided at check- in, although SRAM technicians will be available near Gear Check until 7:30 a.m. Riders are ultimately responsible for their own bikes. Prior to the ride, be sure your bar- end plugs are in place and you have no loose spokes, brakes, headsets, stripped cables, etc. Adjust your wheels and position handlebars correctly. Ensure that cables and tires are in good condition and tubular tires are glued properly onto the rims. Securely fasten all equipment you may carry with you on race day. NUTRITION As the ride day approaches, nutrition becomes the critical component for a successful century. Event day hydration and nutrition begins well before event day. A few days before, cut back or eliminate caffeine and alcohol and drink water frequently. Also begin increasing your percentage of carbohydrates in your diet. On ride day, eat a breakfast high in both simple and complex carbohydrate foods and drink lots of water. During the ride, drink before you are thirsty. Aim to consume at least 20- onces of water per hour while using a combination of sports drinks (for the added electrolytes) and water. Sports drinks such as Gatorade serve a dual purpose for the century cyclist: both the hydration and carbohydrate intake keep your body in motion. Eat easily digestible, carbohydrate rich- food such as 9

11 energy bars, bagels, fruit or granola. Don t try something new on the ride. You should eat things you know agree with you. Key: eat and drink early and often. What you drink during hours two and three will dictate how you perform in hours four, five, six and beyond. It is much easier to keep the fire going by being attentive to your fuel intake than it is to try to recharge an extinguished flame. ATTITUDE Ease into the ride pace. This isn t a race. If this is your first century ride, the goal is to finish comfortably. Here are some more tips for an enjoyable ride: Change your position often. Move your hand position, get up off the saddle, stretch your arms, shoulders and neck, arch your back and stretch out. Avoid staying in one position too long. Take short rest breaks off the bike. An organized century ride will offer regular water and food stops. Take advantage of this time to get off the bike and refill your water bottles, stretch, and use the restroom. Keep these stops to 10 minutes or less or you may risk getting stiff. Find a companion or two. The ride will go faster and feel easier with a friend or two. Also, skilled riders can take advantage of drafting and save some energy in the wind. Attitude is everything. If you have prepared yourself well, there isn t much more to be done on ride day than to sit back and enjoy the scenery (and maybe plan your next century). PHOTOGRAPHY & SOCIAL MEDIA Photographers will be present throughout the event and may request a brief comment. You also are encouraged to bring your own camera/phone and post photos along the way. Here are some additional tips to share your ride with your friends and followers: 1. Change your Facebook profile picture to a shot of you on ride day 2. Update your friends on Facebook and Twitter throughout the day with photos and status updates 3. Be sure to on Facebook on Twitter (#100milestogo) RIDER EXPECTATIONS We want riders to have a safe, fun and memorable experience during the ride. While it may be summer, please be prepared for any kind of weather rain, shine or wind! 10
