2 Mitigating Circumstances There was a single race off between the crew of Bethany Gill/Chloe Bracewell and the crew of Ruth Bennett / Afton Fitzhenry who were second at the 14/15 April selection trials in the Women s C2 500m event. BUCS 2018 FISU University World Championships It is intended to send a small team to the 2018 World University Championships in Szolnok, HUN on August Selection for this event is governed by BUCS and a selection policy is being developed in conjunction with BUCS. Please note, selection is planned to take place at the June regatta and anyone wishing to be considered should contact Nick.fowler@britishcanoeing.org.uk to register their interest and get details of costs etc. Olympic Hopes As per the published 2018 Canoe Sprint selection policy, full information of the remaining places available at the July regatta will be published by 5pm on Friday 11 th May. Important Information Senior European Championships 2018 On Page 6 of the 2018 selection policy, the policy provides the right to send the strongest team to the Senior European Championships in Olympic events. Confirmation has been received that the European Games in 2019 will form a part of the Olympic Qualification process for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The ICF announced on 30 th April that more information on the Olympic Qualification System will be released to National Federations on 17 th May at which point the International Panel will determine which boats will be sent to the 2018 European Championships as this event is the qualification event for the 2019 European Games. Be aware that the final team may depend on crew boat configurations, the feasibility of doubling up, athlete decisions on racing different age categories etc. Coaches and athletes are encouraged to discuss these factors to ensure performances are optimised. For the sake of transparency, the panel will publish an update of the team by the 11 th May following the first round of acceptance/declining. Questions? 4 Appeals The British Canoeing selection policy has a three stage appeal process as outlined in appendix 3 of the policy. Please remember that any appeal must be submitted within 48 hours of the publication of this statement to the chair of the IP paul.dimmock2016@gmail.com Finally The standard of competition across all age groups and classes was very high indeed and a reflection of the hard work put in by all the athletes, coaches and clubs competing in this 2018 selection series.
