Yet, it is also a time for us to honour our protectors in foreign lands who continue to fight for our freedom and way of life. How will you remember? Burma is also ruled by dictatorship, meaning one person gets to rule everything. What is happening to Myanmar now is something you readers might be familiar with: a Civil War. Those of you that are new to this, a Civil War is am armed conflict within one s own country. Sounds ridiculous doesn t it? Well, the monks and other citizens of this country are tired of being ruled by dictatorship, and are willing to stand up for it. Aung San Suu Kyi, who is supposed to be their leader, has been under house arrest for over 11 years ever since May She has the chance of living a free life in another country, since she was given the option, or exile. Ms. Suu Kyi refused to leave. She is the mother of 2 children and a widow since her husband had died. Even though he was really sick, she still wouldn t leave her people. Had she left the country, she wouldn t have been able to come back. The people of Burma love her and admire her for her selfless acts. Ms. Suu Kyi s whereabouts are unknown although she is somewhere in Ragoon, the capital of Myanmar. (continued on page 2)

3 november 2007 World Beat Are we just stereotyping, or is there nothing wrong with the choice of lifestyle? To you reader out there, they might be people that wear a lot of black and cut. The so called Emos and Goths are no more than mere people that are Gothic inspired. The term originated back in the Middle Ages when artists introduced a new form of expression. Paintings and sculptures that were in cathedrals were something Romans thought were beautiful. Back in Germany, the gothic art form was grim or dark. Looking at something with a certain design, you might think it s intriguing, while another can prefer something else. In fact, gothic inspired people are perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with them! Calling someone Depressed or Emo for liking dark colors and wearing black clothes seems sort of ridiculous, doesn t it? So there you have it: they re normal people with a different view. A different preference. So stop and think about labeling and stereotyping. She s a prep, He s a skater, That dude s a geek. The walls moved apart and back together again by themselves. The lad asked, "What is this, father?" The father, having never seen an elevator, responded, "I have no idea what it is." While the boy and his father were watching wideeyed, an old lady in a wheelchair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched as small circles above the wall lit up. The walls opened up again and a beautiful twenty-four-year-old woman stepped out.
