11 What the Association Expects of You What you can expect from the Association Scrimmages & Jamborees (must help) Week 1: August 17 th (some games on 8/16) Arbiter accept game assignments promptly Sportsmanship Cards 11
12 Appearance Varsity: Wear long pants, collared shirt, & shoes to game (no shorts, t-shirts, jerseys, or flip-flops) Uniform: Wear clean & neat uniform in all games Neatly groomed Tobacco prohibited on school grounds No Alcohol on game day Don t enter establishment wearing uniform Caution about using social media Show up to game assignments & arrive on time Sub-varsity ~30 minutes prior to kick off Varsity ~2 hours prior to kick off (must have pre-game) Don t talk about games you were not involved in Don t pal around w/ coaches or call by first name 12

25 If Heat Index is Officials shall stop the game for heat time-out at the 1st dead ball after the halfway point of each quarter. If either team has possession of ball inside the other team s 20-yard line, officials may delay this time-out until either offensive team scores or ball is turned over. If Heat Index is > 104 Game cannot start until heat index drops below 105 Applies to ALL Games & Scrimmages 26
26 Proactive Planning Monitor weather conditions before & during contests Referee cover evacuation & resumption of play protocol with game administrator and coaches When thunder is heard or cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen, the leading edge of the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning!! Suspend play for 30 minutes & take shelter immediately Once play is suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or flash of lightning is witnessed prior to resuming play Any subsequent thunder or lightning after the beginning of the 30-minute count resets the clock & another 30-minute count begins 27
27 Determine prior to start of contest if school has access to designated health care provider during the contest (Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Physicians Assistant, Doctor of Medicine, Osteopathic Physician) Continue to monitor players for possible signs of injury as usual Remove player that shows signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent w/ concussion per NFHS rules Inform head coach that player is being removed for showing signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion School shall have player examined by their designated health care provider - if health care provider determines student has not sustained concussion, head coach may so advise the officials during an appropriate stoppage of play & the athlete may re-enter competition pursuant to contest rules Head coach is in charge of getting clearance from school s designated health care provider If school does not have access to health care provider, or if school s health care provider suspects that the athlete may have sustained a concussion, the only means for an athlete to return to play is for student to be evaluated & cleared by licensed medical doctor (M.D.), Osteopathic Physician (D.O.) or a Clinical Neuropsychologist with Concussion Training If signs, symptoms & behaviors consistent with concussion are observed by an official, and health care provider is not available to evaluate the athlete, the TSSAA Concussion Return to Play form MUST be completed & signed by licensed medical doctor (M.D.), Osteopathic Physician (D. O.) or Clinical Neuropsychologist with concussion training, & shown to the official(s) by the head coach prior to athlete returning to participate in a contest the same day If player that has been removed by an official for showing signs, symptoms, and behaviors consistent with a concussion is allowed to return to play during the contest, an Unusual Occurrence Form shall be filed with the state office by the official within 24 hours of the incident Officials have no role in the diagnosis of concussion. NFHS Rules do require officials to remove players from contest when signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion are observed & the protocol must be followed 28
