Insight is an amalgamation of recollections and reminiscences for the activities that took place in the first half of this year. Through this platform, we aim to concoct a memory lane for both cadets and seniors; one which encompasses the growth towards the betterment of our Corps. Insight is also an avenue for our members to express their thoughts and outlook on the various activities organised for them; and when coupled with the reflective nature of Insight, review the past six months as well as their personal development. Through the sharing of anecdotes, we hope to forge a strong connection between members of the Corps, one that extends beyond the rigorous routine of trainings, courses, competitions, and Corps events. Ultimately, Insight encapsulates the constant progress of our Corps, and serves as a reminder for us to continue to work hand-inhand; to learn, to advance, and to excel.

Orientation: 16/01

Orientation: 16/01 CCA orientation was held during the first term of school, to recruit our juniors to join St. John. Some of us were involved in the performance; some were in charge of the booths, but all of us had a part to play. The most memorable part of orientation for me was being a casualty for the orientation performance, and this was an eye-opener for me. At that point in time, my squad had not learnt Transportation of Casualty (TOC) yet. Through the many rehearsals, I was able to watch how the seniors carried us casualties and also realised how much effort was put into the performance item and the booth preparation every year. Even the storyline for our fight scene took much planning and effort. Every action we made or step we took was methodically and meticulously planned and rehearsed, despite this not being the main part of our performance. This made me realise the importance of our performance as this would help recruit juniors. I also learnt about taking pride in what we do, so even though the small fight scene was seemingly unimportant, we put our best effort into every part of it. On the day of orientation itself, I was nervous and afraid of doing something wrongly and affecting everyone in the process. Luckily, everything went smoothly and I was relieved that it was over. After the performance, we went over to the booths to help out and as I explained things to the juniors, I felt this sense of satisfaction and pride to be a part of our CCA. All in all, this was a very meaningful event and I m proud to have been able to play a part in it. - LCPL Alycia Lee Ann Rei

Chinese NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS: 27/02 To be honest, I was really not as enthusiastic as I usually am during usual RTs. The maain reason was because I was just getting used to my own squad and just suddenly I was introduced to some new people who were older and whom I have never met before. Even during sessions when we were supposed to bond in our Houses, I was really quiet and only talked to Jia Wen. However, after a bit of time, I started to talk a little more to my House mates (mostly Staff Brian and Sgt Sheryl) and had a lot of fun in the games, but my favourite parts were still when I was together with my squad mates, completing games together. Overall, it was a very new experience to me, communicating with people who are older than me but it has enabled me to know more people in my Corps and have fun together with them. It was also a really nice platform to bond with my squad mates. I really had a lot of fun and anticipate for the Chinese New Year Celebration next year. - REC Zhang Yiying

CNY Celebrations w as a memorable event and a highlight of this year as we celebrated Chinese New Year together as a Corps, eating a delicious lunch together and playing games afterwards. W e were first introduction rounded and up played in our some H ouses ice where breakers we such did as a Splat selfand Murderer to familiarise ourselves with the new members of the Corps, the Standard 1s. We then proceeded to the hostel canteen where a steamboat was provided for each house and a scrumptious spread of buffet laid before our eyes. We temporary forgot all our worries as we indulged ourselves in the myriad of food choices that were prepared for us, which included scallops, fried rice and chilled honey dew sago while listening to pop hits such as Katy Perry's Dark Horse. After finishing our incredible meal, we then proceeded to play some games such as 'The Twelve Zodiacs' where a zodiac was pasted onto our backs and we had to get ourselves to arrange up in order without being able to say a single word! The entire evening ended on a high note when we gathered together for the 'We Shall Not Be Moved' cheer and ended with a bang. Overal l, the afternoon was a success with the Corps' morale being kept particularly high and the delicious food that were served. Yummy!! - SGT Zhang Haolin

Flag DAY: 07/03 Flag Day 2015 experience was for me. a whole Being a new newly promoted Standard 2, we were of age to collect donations to help fund the voluntary organisation of St. John, which we are part of. Personally, I am not outgoing, particularly towards strangers, hence this was a challenging task for me. Being new to this task, we were helped by the seniors at House. Benedictus, my House was tasked to collect donations Flag Day was an extremely enriching experience for us. During Flag Day, we went to ask for donations in our Houses and we went to different areas of Singapore to get donations. Through this managed to experience, learn how we to communicate better with members of the public to get our message across and how to properly interact with them. This also allows us to from Tampines, and we got there by bond across the Standards in our very long time, being "spoiled" with luxury extremely tiring day, I have gained a taking the MRT. I had not taken one in a House. sedans lot through this experience. Flag Day and stationed surprisingly extremely at sports the fun cars. library. I experience satisfying when was It then was that a was someone placed a relatively larger donation into the tin. Then we had lunch in a group, where I broke my running record of not eating at a food court. Seeing my squadmates heavier tins, I decided to step up my game and ask for more donations. Eventually, we all went to the St. John Headquarters, where I discovered that those who went to Bugis got extremely full tins, and it was a wonderful getting funding to what contributes to our own lives in St. John. - LCPL Guo Jialu Benjamin Although Flag Day was an is extremely meaningful to me as I enjoy interacting with my House, thus with Flag Day, as we get to spend a full day in our Houses, we get to know so much more about each other and bond more. Flag Day also taught me how important it is to present ourselves well and how important it is to be able to interact with members of the public well. Although Flag Day is just a one-day event, I believe the things we learn during Flag Day will serve us well in the future. - SGT Tan Si JIe

Uniformed Group DAY: 08/05 I originally thought of UG Day as another normal RT with the presence of more people. However, it was different. Unlike a normal RT when we only got to bond with our squadmates, we also got to know others from the Year 1s to Year 3s of another UG CCA. As we interacted, I learnt more about the other UGs. I also learned that we have to learn how to work together with people that we don t know well. An example is when we started playing our first game, to remove the bandage from your opponents pockets, without even knowing each other s names at all. The game started awkwardly with both teams just walking around each other until someone took the initiative to start getting competitive. When help was needed, we would just start pointing to anyone who was in the same team, learning each other s names as we played. Working together as a team to win the games, I learnt more about teamwork and sportsmanship when we lost. To me, the most interesting part was the dance. Being in a UG CCA, I never expected us to be dancing. Bonding with our new friends, the day ended quickly with dinner and prize presentation for the games. UG Day was definitely an eye-opener for me as a Year 1. - REC Yeo Shin Jie

The most memorable part of UG day for me was the games involved. I was part of group 20 and they made it a good experience for me, especially during the games. I made new friends through the games and it taught me that teamwork is very important. The games like the dog & bone game also puts our reaction and teamwork to the test. We managed to win first prize and it was definitely memorable. The part I was looking forward to most was actually the UG mass dance as last year, I had a whale of a time dancing along with members from other Uniformed Groups. This year, it did not fail me and although we were not the most talented dancers, the people we are with make it the most precious. The memories created was what mattered. I feel very satisfied and accomplished about this event, winning as a team, making new friends. UG day has been an annual event for the Uniformed Groups to come together, understand each other s Uniformed Group, and of course a new opportunity for us to make friends. UG day is of great significance to me as it shows our bond as Uniformed Groups and I look forward to it next year. - LCPL Emma Lee Wen Rong

Intra-Corps competition: 02/06

Dactyl The Intra-Corps First Aid Competition was certainly an eye-opening experience for me. It was not my first competition in DHSJB, but it was the first time our competition teams involved the Standard 3s. I thoroughly enjoyed the house training on Mondays where I got to spend time learning and having fun in my house. The trainings were definitely useful to me as a cadet because we were learning in a small group and thus I felt like we had more time to practice for the competition. We were informed before this competition that this would be our last event together in our Houses (DHSJAB) and this definitely gave us more motivation to work harder to earn our last glory for our House and to give back to our seniors who spent so much time and effort in helping us with this competition. On the day of the competition, I remembered that our first case, in which our team included my own squadmates and I, didn t go smoothly, because we did not notice a casualty until halfway through the case, and we had quite a few wrong treatments. Our next case, in which our team included a Standard 3, two of my squadmates, and I, was definitely better in terms of communication and treatment, where we got more confident and determined. I was proud of our TOC, as we did not drop any casualty and the transportation went smoothly. In the end, our efforts paid off and we won third in the competition! We were so proud of each other and were really happy! An important take-away for me after this competition was that hard work and effort pays off. - LCPL Tan Wei Ling

Hera The most memorable part of this entire intra-competition was actually competing as the most senior member of the team for the first time as for previous Intra-Competition, I was the more junior member in the team. However, greater responsibility came with this as well as during the Intracompetition, I actually had to take charge more during the cases and be calmer when problems arise. Through this memorable competition, I actually had many takeaways from it as being a senior, I had to be more calm and composed when we experienced problems and furthermore, I had also learnt how to cooperate better with anyone, not just our squadmates, but also our juniors. Also I felt that it was actually an honor to be able to participate in this year s Intra-Competition as it was the last time we were going to compete in our old Houses, with mine being Hera and it was rather significant as this was the last time we could contribute to Hera and make Hera proud. Even though we did not clinch the top 3 positions, I think everyone gave the competition their best shot and thus it was rather heartwarming seeing everyone in Hera working hard for the competition together. I think that competing in the IntraCompetition was not all about the trophies only, but rather it was the friendships forged and strengthened during the Intra-Competition trainings and also the various takeaways from the competition that really mattered. In a nutshell, I believe that the competition was a rather memorable and special one as it really allowed me to mature much more and learn so much more from it. - SGT Kwa Zhi Cheng

Seriphos Through this competition, I picked up many First Aid skills. I learnt of the many different types of injury that can be inflicted in daily life and how to treat them. For example, injuries like ankle sprains could be easily inflicted while playing sports. However treating it is not as easy as it seems. You have to apply the RICE method, which is to rest the sprain, ice it, compress it before elevating it to reduce blood flow to the injured area. There are many more injuries and treatments I have learnt but the ankle sprain is just an example. I have also learnt how to transport an injured casualty from one place to another. You can use a stretcher or manually transport them using methods like piggy-back, fireman s lift and many more. I have learnt many of the safety measures on how to lift the stretcher safely and how to manually carry casualties properly. The most important thing I have learnt is how to work well with my teammates and how to adhere orders from my number one which also means the leader. I also have to work well with my partner and make sure neither of us do anything wrong. The most memorable part of this event was when we won 2nd for this IntraCompetition. It was quite surprising for me as during House trainings, my performance was not that good but I guess it was hard work and belief that pulled us through to win 2nd for this competition. - LCPL Aw Chin Hon

Jenova I feel that the Intra-Corps First Aid Competition was a very eventful experience in which I had taken away a lot which would benefit me in future in both my daily and St. John years to come. I personally feel that the time spent with the Year 3 and 4 seniors was the most memorable as House trainings were more informal and thus we could talk and bond more with our instructors. We would do things together such as First Aid cases or even pumpings but I still feel that at least we were doing it as a House and that was memorable for me. In terms of skills and information taken away from this experience, I feel that I have definitely taken away quite a few, First Aid knowledge being one and other skills such as to show care which we have learnt through our reassurance of the casualty. I have also learnt that hard work does payoff as my House trained very hard and in the end we managed to attain the 1st position. Despite this, I feel that the process is more important than the end result and thus I feel that this event is extremely eventful and beneficial - LCPL Nai Jia Wen Joel

Aegis I was given the chance to participate in Intra-Competition again this year, representing my old House, Aegis. Along with my other housemates, we trained hard during our House trainings and fought hard during the competition itself. I think we all can agree that nothing beats the satisfaction of having fun and making memories together, be it our pumping punishments or our stretcher drills around the block or just sitting around, talking about anything and everything. I remember how nervous we were in the waiting room on the day itself, not having the appetite to eat the refreshments and snacks that were given to us. But knowing that we had all the support of our House instructors and one another; that was enough to spur us on to do our best in the competition. Despite not emerging as champions this time round, I was very proud of my house for I knew we did put in our all for the competition. I do hope that we do not forget all the fun times we had throughout our journey and remember that winning is definitely not everything. We may not be in the same House now but as we once said, our bonds are unbreakable! I truly enjoyed participating in Intra-Comp this year and I hope that our Aegis House spirit never dies. - SGT Tay Kai YI

Benedictus I found the Intra-Corps First-Aid Competition very interesting. It was the first time I got to really work with my seniors which was something I was very excited about. I loved the trainings and I appreciated it even more since it was the very last House activity. I believe all of us worked very hard and tried our best to accomplish something for this last competition as DHSJAB. Despite the fact that there were multiple setbacks and we did not win, I appreciate everything my housemates have done for me, be it training, being part of it or just showing encouragement. I also learnt a lot of first-aid knowledge from my seniors, especially interesting skills or tricks that could be implemented in future experiences to better our performance. The trainings in general were a new experience as we were learning a lot of new information. I know that this experience was one of a kind and it would be difficult to ever replicate the things I have gone through and therefore learnt from. Even so, I will continue to work hard and do even better for every activity is a new learning experience. Through this experience, I have truly learnt a lot, and will not hesitate to put this to good use in future competitions, especially with the new Houses. I hope to one day become just like the seniors I look up to. - LCPL Chew Jia Hui Eileen

Enrichment: 02/06 Our SJB Year 1 enrichment programme allowed the majority of my squad to equip a bow and arrow and shoot at a target for the first time in our lives. Archery was certainly a unique experience that my squad members and I will never forget. In movies, I could only see as much as a curved piece of wood and an arrow. However, during the enrichment programme, we went in-depth to the various parts of the bow and its functions. We learnt things such as a proper way to hold the bow, body posture, how to load an arrow, draw a bow and where to aim. Archery seemed simple enough at first. In movies and games, it just looked like the arrow would go straight as soon as you released the string. To my surprise, archery was harder than I had expected. Drawing the bow required much strength, to the point where my fingers hurt even after a few days. Upon release of the string, the arrow could deviate far from where you aimed it, as if to a different postcode! Many of us could not hit the target initially, but after a while, we got used to how to compensate, specifically where to aim and how to have a correct positioning to ensure a good shot. Personally, I found a different place on the bow to aim and it certainly improved my accuracy. We were given an hour and a half to practice our shooting before our examination. We had 3 sets of 6 arrows to shoot, and we had to accumulate a score of 80 in order to pass. To my frustration, 2 of my 18 arrows had grazed against another arrow stuck on the target, resulting in ricochets. However, I am still proud of my achievement, a score of 112. Despite many of my squad mates barely passing the examination, we all agreed that we had a lot of fun. This experience with a bow and arrow widened my view of archery, and made me appreciate the difficulty of the sport. Would I ever do it again if I had an opportunity? I would most gladly say yes. - REC Marcus Chee Jen An Archery

Enrichment: 02/06 The enrichment activities were extremely interesting! As the vendor had mentioned, we not only get to shoot a pistol (traditionally shot only by NPCC cadets), we also get to try out the rifle shooting (originally shot by NCC). The combination of the two really makes the activities much more intriguing. In addition to that, I have no experience whatsoever in terms of firing air weapons so this enrichment has really proved to be (and will be) one of my most memorable experiences in St. John. I am also very certain that many of my fellow squadmates have had a good time participating in the enrichment activities. Moving on, I will now recount to you about the details (that I remember). I remember that the enrichment activities took a course of two days: the first day we spent learning the pistols and the second, we were learning how to take aim using a scope and fire a rifle. This is followed by a test, which proved how much easier it was to fire a rifle accurately as compared to a pistol. I also remembered that I have scored 76/80 for my rifle shooting, one of the best scores (though the best was 79/80). All in all, I think that the enrichment activities were extremely fun and can really provide the St. John cadets with a lot of fun and joy, as well as a memorable experience firing a gun (as close as it would be to a gun for now). I really hope that such activities will still be available to the cadets for the years down the road. - LCPL Aaron Mai Sheng Ting Air weapons

Enrichment: 02/06 The enrichment activity held on the 2nd June was a very enriching learning experience for us. Vendors from ASPEN3 PTE LTD came to our school and imparted many important skills and values to us. Firstly, we learnt about the importance of communication and trust in one another through a game which involved the use of Foot Drill Words of Command to shift our blindfolded squadmates around. Secondly, we also learnt the importance of being proactive and being willing to make changes and make things happen instead of just responding to external factors. We have to be the one that is looking out for areas to improve and be the one that initiates the changes for the better. Thirdly, we also learnt about how to create winwin situations and to look out for the hidden strengths of others instead of focusing on the weaknesses. Lastly, we had an activity which involved us transporting our squadmates across an obstacle course using a stretcher. It was rather physically challenging as we had to do forfeits for each time we fail and we failed quite a number of times. However, we persevered and pushed on, eventually succeeding. In conclusion, the enrichment activity was a really memorable one and we learnt many useful skills and values that will aid us in future. Thank you ASPEN3! - SGT Eric Ho Chi Kiat Leadership

Annual Leisure DAY: 03/06

DELPHI This year, the Annual Leisure Day took place on 3rd of June To keep us in suspense, the seniors posted a picture with the words Time for New Era, Time for Four: QUARTZ on our Routine Order. Everyone was guessing what would happen on that day. When the day finally came, it was kick started by a video, where a fight took place between the original six Houses, Dactyl, Hera, Seriphos, Jenova, Aegis and Benedictus making them not be unable to fight against their main enemy. Following that video, Ma am led us to an area and told us to find cards with our names. After we found a few cards, we realised four common names-delphi, Helios, Shinto and Jadeite. This was when it struck us, it was our new Houses. We continued finding the rest of the cards and everyone had mixed feelings when they found theirs, as this meant that some of our squadmates will never be in the same House again, but there were also new squadmates that were going to be in the same House. After gathering all of us back, we were told to meet at our areas, where we met the other seniors and juniors that were in the same House as us. My House then continued with a self-introduction and a House bonding session where we were given missions to complete together and learnt our new House cheers. We were then brought back up to the hall to compete with the other 3 Houses, as well as show off each House s unique cheer. The intense game of destroying each other s buildings was the most fun and memorable one. After the game was over, another video was played, stating that all of our Houses had to work together to fight off our main enemy, the evil power, and not ourselves. We shared our quartz pieces and build squares to fight off the evil power, and in the end we succeeded! From this entire activity, I learnt that we should work together to achieve a common goal more easily. All in all, I am very thankful towards the seniors for planning such an unforgettable and exciting day. - LCPL Lim Xin Yi Chloe

Annual Leisure Day was the first time we, Standard 3s, get to lead the rest of the Corps. It was the best time to interact with the Standard 1s and 2s and get to know one another more. ALD is an opportunity for us as a St. John Corps to build stronger relationships within ourselves. The activities such as the cheer competition and the mass games were very exciting. Through these activities, we get to become closer with the juniors and bond with one another more because the conduct of the event is slightly less strict compared to normal routine trainings. This year s ALD was a memorable experience for me as this was the first time I actually stood up to lead a group of people. Normally, I tend to wait for someone to take the lead and I would follow the leader s instructions to complete the task. I have always preferred to be the follower but this time, I had to be the leader. Having to lead seemed very new and uncomfortable to me as at times I would be blur and not know what to say in front of the rest. But ALD has allowed me to learn to maintain calm and collected when in problematic situations and more importantly, voice out more and express myself with greater confidence and clarity. In overall, ALD was fun and I believe everyone else had fun and are also appreciative of the organising committee that made this whole event a success. ALD is a once in a year event where we can literally have fun. I hope in future we can have back our Annual Leisure Camp again. - SGT Ng Zi Xin

HELIOS There s nothing like Annual Leisure Day with St. John s Brigade. It s my very first, and it really is an amazing experience. I was actually disappointed at first, when I learnt about the new Houses. I liked Dactyl, but my new House is really, really cool. Painting our faces and adorning items to express our identity was a very effective in allowing us to feel bonded to our House. I am usually only comfortable with my squad, but Helios feels like another squad of its own. The new era, the era of Four, doesn t seem too bad after all. I m usually reluctant for change, but this was a change I actually appreciated, although I do miss Dactyl I found the Arena really cool, I mean, woah. It was awesome. I have never seen so much enthusiasm before, it s amazing, really. Games, cheering, energy, wow. Seriously, it was so cool. St. John wasn t just any Uniformed Group that day. It was family, it was energetic and it was lively. You don t get to have that much fun with your Corps every day. Seeing all the Houses, battling it out on Level 3 of the Junior High Block, would shock others. The energy was as intense and breath-taking as the Fire of Helios. At the end of day, it felt like all my energy was used up, and you get that feeling where your whole body relaxes and you feel like dropping to the ground and falling asleep. It was awesome, really, every ounce of energy was worth spending. Nothing like Annual Leisure Day with St. John Brigade! - REC Sarah Ong Chu Xuan

Annual Leisure Day was overall a good experience as it allowed us to bond with our squadmates and our new House members through playing various games and completing a variety of interesting missions as a House such as rolling on the floor from the lift to the music atrium, singing random songs, and doing our House cheers. At the start, I was quite disappointed that this year Annual Leisure Day was not an overnight camp and was reluctant to part from my old House, Seri. However there were many fun activities planned for us and I truly enjoyed myself and got to make many new friends from the Standard 1 squad through this enriching experience. Initially, I was expecting that there would be silence in the new Houses as we did not really know each other, resulting in awkwardness. However, the seniors were really enthusiastic which helped to hype up the mood and lighten the spirit. Additionally, the inter-house ball game, which required teamwork, brought everyone closer together and through that, the unity of the entire House was displayed. This, I believe, have certainly created many fond memories for me and I look forward to more bonding time with my new House and not forgetting, Annual Leisure Day 2016! - LCPL Chua Sng Ni Beatrice

SHINTO I feel that ALD was rather enjoyable and as it was the first time everybody were in their new Houses, people were unfamiliar with the people around them and to bring us closer to our new Housemates, the seniors have planned games and activities to bond the Houses and I feel that they have done a good job. Generally, the morale was quite high and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. As the House captain of Shinto, it was the first time I was leading a group of people, bringing them around and giving instructions. I learnt how to give instructions better and through ALD, I learnt that as the House captain, the responsibility of Shinto is on my shoulders. As it is also the first time this was held in a single day as compared to previous years when this event was held over two days, some people were unhappy about this change as this meant one less overnight event and lesser time for games. With the implementation of the four new Houses, I feel rather sad to let go of the six Houses system, where we forged memories during House trainings and outings. As ALD s tagline says Time for a new era Time for four, we should all move on from here and create lasting memories with our new Housemates - SGT Nathaniel Chan Zhao Kang

Time for quartz, time for four, the theme for Annual Leisure Day (ALD) I am glad that it was really fun and cool as it will be an event that will be remembered as it was the first ALD I attended. The most memorable part of ALD was the Inter-House competition. Changing from the old DHSJAB houses to DHSJ, it was really cool to be in your new Houses and going against your old housemate and meeting new seniors. Hearing your new House cheers for the first time and working with them against your squadmates and old housemates. Before the event itself, I was really excited to for ALD. Unlike usual routine trainings, ALD was a day we could have fun with the entire Corps through games, cheers and friendly competition. The coolest part of the ALD was that the Standard 1s were finally able to know their houses so overall I was really excited for ALD. I feel that the event was very memorable and made a lasting memory for me. The first ALD I attended was a huge success and I had lots of fun. Putting down the strictness during normal Routine Training like Good Afternoon Ma am/sir and Yes Ma am/sir to What s up Ma am/sir! and Aye Aye Captain!. It was truly a day where everyone just enjoys themselves and the company of the entire Corps. - REC Soh Xin Qiao

JADEITE Annual Leisure Day would always be one of the most fun and exciting events throughout our SJ life. This is the time where we have fun together as one Corps and to strengthen the bonds between one another. This year s Annual Leisure Day was exceptionally fun and special because a new system of Houses was introduced. Instead of the original 6 Houses, we would be split into 4 new Houses, Delphi, Helios, Shinto and Jadeite. With this new system, we would be able to interact with more people and forge more friendships. This year s Annual Leisure Day was a very fun experience for me. Although, it was a 1-day event, unlike past years when we had overnight camps, it was still an interesting and fun experience. The games and activities were thrilling and exciting. The most memorable activity was one of the last activities for the day, where we played in an arena. We had to protect our bases and at the same time, try to destroy the other Houses bases. It was memorable because I enjoyed it greatly. From forming alliances with other Houses to targeting one particular house and attacking full-force, it was thrilling, exciting and absolutely fun. I hope for future ALDs, we would get to play these strategic games again! I feel that the whole of ALD was very well planned by our seniors. The theme was very interesting and intriguing. The activities were very fun and exciting. The memories created were special. And most importantly, the bonds that we made were precious. This was a very special day where we came together as a Corps and enjoyed ourselves. Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the seniors for creating this fun memory for us. Thank you! - LCPL Chui Jun Kit

As a House captain leading my new House for the first time, I was actually quite nervous yet excited. "How will my House turn out like?" " Will they be as enthusiastic as I think they will be?" such questions constantly filled my mind before the event. However, ALD was very fun and enriching and there were much to learn, such as communication with the seniors and squadmates. The most memorable part was when I first saw my House in action, playing the games and cheering together. They were a very fun and vibrant group and put in their best for all the activities. That placed all the worries I had at first to rest. Personally, I think that ALD was a very fun and meaningful event, allowing the new Houses to bond and know each other better. It also provides an opportunity for different squads to bond and mix together, allowing a stronger Corps relationship. Overall, it was enriching and enjoyable experience and I hope that next year's ALD or ALC will be as fun as this year's ALD. - SGT Seow Jia Hao

Senior non-commissioned 0fficer training camp: 05/06-08/06 The 34th Senior NCO training course was held from 5th June to 8th June 2015.During the course of the 4D3N camp and the 2 course days, we have picked up the skills necessary to become an instructor in theory, as well as in practice. The course itself was a one with many leadership opportunities up for grab and as someone who is pretty reserved, they did not appeal to me. Ultimately, I still had the role of being the course day 2 I/C and it was pretty daunting, but the experience and the lesson that you get is very valuable, especially since only 12 people get to be the I/C during the entire course. Our team was also in charge of planning a PT session for the course and although we faced many hiccups along the way, we managed to pull through the activity, putting skills that we have only been learning in theory in practice like decisiveness. The course motto, Outlast the Challenge, Lead with Pride is especially prominent during the tough physical challenges imposed onto us, that challenges, however daunting they may seem, can be overcome if you have hold on to the belief that you can do it. All in all, the course itself is a memorable one, and I don t think that we will remember the activities we did during SNCO in time to come but instead the bonds that we have forged with our fellow teammates from different schools and the sense of accomplishment from enduring and overcoming what seemed like our limits during the camp. - SGT Sheu Cheng-Kai
