Bean doesn t care. he doesn t want to go to camp. he wouldn t go even if they begged her. o ha. o ha ha. o wait a second! Bean and vy can make their own camp, their own better camp, (of course) Camp laming rrow, where Crafts include escaping, ance includes thumbtacks, irst id includes zombies, and counselors vy and Bean make the rules. 7 K-Y-W! deas for creating your very own camp Knitting camp, zoo camp, soccer camp, painting-china-platters camp there s a million camps in this world, and they all aim to teach you something. ounds a lot like school, doesn t it? But when you make your own camp, you just learn what you want to learn. nd if you forget it later, who cares? o one! o it s not like school at all! ry these fun activities or make up your own. : CG Y WY G CP Great for indoors! P C riendship bracelets are too complicated. ll those teeny-weeny strings get tangled up and then you have to untangle them and then they break anyway. riendship handcuffs are much better. ake as many pieces of colored string or yarn as you can get and wrap them around and around your friend s wrists. Pretty tight, but not so tight your friend s hands turn blue. ie the best knot you can. ie it again. ie it another five or six times. ow tell your friend to escape from the handcuffs. Can she? f she can, tie her hand and her foot together and see if she can escape from that. Bet she can t. -Y LC nybody can try their hand at tie-dying shirts why not try tie-dying shoe laces instead? Gather a group of friends and begin by getting cotton laces and fabric paints for soaking. ie knots in the shoelaces about one inch apart or cinch one-inch loops with hair elastics (just don t pull them out of your friend s hair while she is still using them). Prepare each color of dye in its own bowl by mixing equal parts fabric paint and water. ix with a paintbrush or stick. ip each knot or loop into a different color. emove the lace from the dye after a few seconds unless you want a very dark color. ry the laces flat on a plastic bag. o not undo the knots until the laces are dry. fter they are ready, find your favorite tennis shoes, lace them up, and host a footwear fashion show! PLLW C C n case your camp requires a night out in the great outdoors with your friends (it should!), get yourself prepared by decorating a pillow case fit for a night under the stars. Begin by getting a plain white pillowcase (think of it as a blank piece of paper waiting for you and your friends to spruce it up). o make that pillow case a one of a kind work, it just needs to be creatively designed. tart by getting some fabric markers. ext, get a piece of cardboard that is as big as the pillowcase and slide it inside the pillowcase (this is to avoid the marker leaking onto the other side or going all splotchy). ow, for the fun part esign, design, design! fter the cases are ready, be sure to give them a test drive by putting pillows inside and having a pillow fight!

Y: LG L G L eanderthals lived a long time ago, and they looked mostly like people today, except they were shorter, they thumped around more when they walked, and they fought saber-tooth tigers with spears. hey were probably not as smart as we are, but they were plenty brave and tough. hey lived all over the place, and then for some reason they died out. t least, that s what scientist say. But how could they die out completely? here were so many of them! here s sure to be one or two eanderthals left. Get out your butterfly net and see if you can find one. f you can t, one camper can pretend to be a eanderthal and all the other campers can chase him or her around. hat s fun, too. K G! o camp experience is complete without a night spent under the stars (Yes, that means sleeping outside!). With your parents permission, pitch a tent in your backyard and have a camp out with your friends (and fellow cool campers). Working in teams, create cool constellation stories (pick a section of stars that look interesting and make up a story to go with them to share with the other groups). o make the night complete, don t forget to build a flashlight fire and make microwave s mores. o make the night extra, extra special, get some inexpensive harmonicas and take turns playing and jamming to your favorite tunes. Y K Y C C? ( G? C?) PPY-P-P! o do this, you ve got to be wearing really thick-bottom shoes, like running shoes or clogs. re you? kay. Good. ow, get six thumbtacks and stick them in the bottoms of your shoes, not all in one place and be careful not to stick yourself instad. Got them in there? kay. Good. ow, get a board (or a metal washtub, but that s hard to find.). Got it? kay. Good. ow, dance. hahahahaha! sn t that great? Great for indoors! W P, P? t the end of the day, gather everybody and either on your own or with your friends (who wouldn t want to do that?) get ready to write and practice an original camp song or rap. hink about using the rhythm of your favorite song as a way to inspire you (Wait do you need inspiration? don t think so! bet you will have a ton of ideas). fter you get your lyrics written, practice performing it to the beat of the song. When its show time, sing and share it loud and proud! CLL C? W L ZB L! : GCY! Before you can learn first aid, you have to have wounded patients to attend to. veryone has to be wounded. here are lots of ways to be wounded, but the easiest is probably red watercolor, scotch tape, and paper towels. Get the paper towels nice and red (that s the blood) and then scotch tape the towels to your arms and legs and heads. oan and wail. tagger around. he doctor will rush to your side, looking very worried. ne-twelve over five! she ll say. We have to do surgery! nce you ve had surgery, you re fixed. But you could get wounded again at any moment. ince nobody moans and wails as well as zombies do, why not have everyone come to camp dressed as their favorite zombie? Lead a zombie walk or even a dance contest (Who says zombies don t have all the right moves?). sing a zombie-rific playlist (with songs like hriller or Your Brains ), get your camp zombies up and moving as they shuffle to the beat.

CP o make camp even more fun, why not consider trying a different theme on certain camp days to help everyone get in the camp spirit! ere are a few suggestions for you and your friends, but bet if you really think about it, you ll come up with even cooler ideas on your own! Y BC! Play water games in the back yard with a wading pool, a hose and a sprinkler. ecorate water bottles with paint. ave a sand castle building contest. ake things out of seashells. ave lunch on beach towels on the lawn. erve Kool-id in tall glasses with umbrellas and maraschino cherries. W Y! ake grass skirts out of big brown paper and make leis with tissue paper flowers. Learn the hula. Core and dice a fresh pineapple, and host a coconut cracking competition. C Y! ake drums out of coffee cans. Create a video of campers singing, and consider having everyone learn a new instrument. Let friends bring their favorite music and get everyone to take a turn as a deejay. f there s music, there should be dancing use youtube.com to learn some popular line dances get everyone in line and start. L Y! ow about having each camper pick a country they know something about (or want to know more about) and bring and play games from that country? ave each of your friends pick a different country, learn more about their customs, and most importantly find out what food is most commonly consumed there. nd the day with an international food festival!

G-Y-W - Begin by getting into the camp spirit and create a clever name for your camp (like vy and Bean s Camp laming rrow). fter you ve selected the name, have some fun with designing original t-shirts (and maybe even create a logo). t home, school, or in the library, -shirts can be designed on the computer (and printed out on thermal transfer paper to be applied to a shirt with an adult s supervision) or to keep things simple, just get creative with fabric paints. Why not finish the shirts off by giving yourself a special camp-only nickname that you can put on the back? se this sheet to start brainstorming! WLC Write the name of your camp here. BCK

K Y W CP L! o camp runs without rules, even vy and Bean s Camp laming rrow! n the space below, write a camp code of conduct, being sure to include rules even vy and Bean would follow. emember, be as silly as you like, because the most important rule of camp is to have! nything goes as long as you re having a good time! nclude your camp s name and motto on the top of the sheet and then share with your friends. CP C CC ave! se your imagination

-L-L! CP G! very camp needs a theme song! tart by thinking of a song you and your friends know really, really well. hen make a list of all the important things people should know and remember about your camp, like the name, the motto, the date when it started, the activities, the location, and anything else you think is cool. hen turn those cool facts into a story that can be sung to your song tune. Write your official theme song in the space below.
