He s been working hard to obtain it. A Crisis Relief Fund has been set up for Larry and Rhonda Spratto Friends of Larry and Rhonda Spratto have opened an account at the Gurnee Community Bank to help them recover from the devastation they encountered due to a barn fire, resulting in the loss of 13 horses. Donations can be made in the name of Crisis Fund c/o Larry and Rhonda Spratto and can be sent to the Gurnee Community Bank at: 675 N. O'Plaine, Gurnee, IL This is a 501(c)(3) charitable donation. In May I was sorry to hear of the death of a former member, Jerry Krich. Jerry died May 13, apparently of a heart attack. Jerry and his wife, Bev, moved out of the area but continued to show horses. Sooner Rd., Guthrie, OK Congratulations to Victoria Burger who finished her All Around Superior and finished qualifying for the 2012 AQHA World Show in Horsemanship, Showmanship and Western Riding. She also came home with multiple circuit championships. She had a great Cap Gun circuit. And speaking of Cap Gun! Luann Meyer was Circuit Champ in Select Eq, winning under all 4 judges and picking up 4 points. She also picked up points in showmanship and HUS. Millie Mauritzson was Circuit Champ in both Select and Sr Trail with Chex Your Destiny. Marsha Nannemann picked up 2 points winning the Novice Am Trail under two judges with Pulsively Gorgeous; Linda Berg picked up ½ point by placing 2nd in the Green Trail; Danielle Luetke and Booker Dee Scotch picked up ½ point by placing 2nd in the Novice Youth Horsemanship under one judge; and Mackenzie Tilch placed 1st out of 7 under one judge in the Small Fry Showmanship. The Small Fry classes had almost as many entries as the other classes 7 in showmanship, 5 in Small Fry W.P.; 4 in SF Trail; SF HUS had 8 entries and Small Fry Eq had 7! To put it in perspective Select Eq had 5 & 6 entries-- It was amazing to watch these young kids do such a good job in the HUS classes. The horse show was a lot of fun for those attending. Introductory Shows Cap Gun Circuit There's a barnful of reasons why the 2012 Cap Gun Circuit on June in Jefferson, Wisconsin, was the place to show. Cross Winds Farm in Marengo and Kendall County Horse Association (Harris Forest Preserve, Yorkville) had introductory shows in conjunction with open shows in June. The each had entries in their AQHA classes. The showbills are limited in what classes are offered amateurs and youth, but classes provided points for those who attended. Illinois Quarter Horse Association and Land of Lincoln Quarter Horse Association provided prizes for those who showed in the AQHA classes. Both shows were approved by both organizations. I saw people who attend AQHA shows regularly and people I haven t seen at an AQHA show in many years. Some were former youth who attend a few shows per year with their children. It was nice to see some old faces.

2 2013 novice championship qualifying To nationally qualify, an exhibitor must: Show at 20 shows in a Novice class; if a show does not offer the Novice class, contact the show manager or show secretary to clarify. Shows will be counted by show numbers; for questions about how many show numbers a show will count for, competitors should ask the presiding show manager or secretary. or Place in the top 10 in a Novice class at an AQHA regional championship show. For competitors interested in qualifying through their state or province, AQHA affiliates will submit qualifying methods, which will be posted on If an affiliate does not submit a qualifying method, AQHA members residing in that state or province must qualify through another affiliate or nationally qualify. The qualifying methods, both national and affiliate, have changed slightly for the 2013 show, said Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows. Competitors need to be sure to carefully read the new qualifying methods. All horses entering the grounds of a 2012 American Quarter Horse Association world championship show must have current (30-day) original health certificates, as well as original negative Coggins tests dated within the last 12 months of the show. This includes horses that originate from the state where the show is being held. The results on health certificates and Coggins papers should indicate the horse s registered name. AQHA is not requiring a negative blood test for equine piroplasmosis for the 2012 AQHA world championship shows. Help our membership grow!
