Orton Bradley Outdoor Education Centre 36 Waipapa Ave RD 2 Diamond Harbour 8030 Ph (03) info@wildspots.co.nz In this Document... Abseiling Group Initiatives High ropes Water Low ropes Camping Orienteering About us Exciting, challenging and fun outdoor education adventures only 30 minutes from Christchurch
High Ropes Course Leap of Faith Imagine standing on the edge of a 17m high platform waiting to jump for the slender trapeze bar. Below, your team is yelling encouragement... The "Leap of Faith" was built in 2002 by Orton Bradley Outdoor Education Centre under the guidance of Tyndall and Hanham consulting engineers. But when you are jumping off the platform, it doesn't seem to help knowing that the design and construction exceeds official ropes course standards. It s more than just a big adrenalin rush, the Leap of Faith requires trust in your team members, and is a metaphor for facing and meeting personal challenges.
High Ropes Course High Tyre It's a fantastic feeling sitting on the top tyre surrounded by the canopy of giant eucalyptus The high tyre is climbed in pairs. Designed to be difficult to do individually but easy working together, it requires giving and receiving help and trusting in your team members belaying you.
Low Ropes Course Our classic 7-element low ropes course offers a fun and safe challenge for any group. The possibilities are endless: from individual challenge, competing for achievement or collaborating for excellence.. Our experienced facilitator will choose the challenge depending on the brief for your team
Waterfall Abseil For groups that enjoy being active, and getting muddy, the Waterfall Abseil is the perfect challenge. A 45 minute walk through farmland and native bush ends at Waterfall Gully. The abseiler has the option of moving into the 35m water fall and getting wet, or remaining dry on the cliff face.
Group Initiatives Test out your team's communication and decision-making skills through a series of tricky and fun challenges. Get your team through the spider web, navigate the orienteering course or manoeuvre the giant skis. Your facilitator will guide your group to solve each initiative with creativity and cooperation.
Water Activities The sea and coast of Lyttelton Harbour offers a whole new set of challenges. Test your construction skills by building a home made raft Coasteering between Diamond Harbour and Purau Adventurous groups can scramble, climb and swim around the rugged coast of Diamond Harbour, stopping to visit Smuggler's Cave. It's called Coasteering and we guarantee you have never had an experience like this.
Rafting Test your construction skills by building a home made raft and paddling it in a sheltered bay. Pete follows close in his kayak just in case. Year 8 students from Cobham School paddle their raft at Traffic-cop Bay Your group has to work together on this or your boat won t float. Sometimes, if the weather or tides aren t smiling at us, we have to do something else instead.
Orienteering Our orienteering course is designed to be user friendly to first-time map readers. Symbols are logical and uncluttered and the course is small with controls only m apart. K L M N O P Q R S T Excellence and Expertise in Outdoor Programmes Orton Bradley Orienteering Pete Ozich 2002 The course is available to hire to all park users at $1 per person, but is free to use while our instructors are running activities for your group. This enables us to achieve excellent ratios for activities like the ropes course and abseiling. A B C D E F G H I J

When we found the key I think everyone felt really good about themselves Brearna (Chisnallwood) I really had to believe in myself to make the jump to the trapeze Jared (year 8) Orton Bradley Outdoor Education Centre Clue Eight Where s the Key?...they might find it I hope they re clever enough I don t know, but if they go to the X on the map and follow the compass bearings... The costumes were really funny and to see the parents and teachers dressed in them was even funnier Andrew (year 8)
Orton Bradley Park is transformed into Wilderland. A CD warns of imminent danger to a band of dwarves who have been captured by trolls. Without the help of everyone at the park they are doomed for sure. In the quest to find the keys that can free the dwarfs, your group must first make money by completing tasks such as camp cooking, orienteering and building a human pyramid. Soon each group has a bagful of cash that they use to buy clues.
The cryptic clues lead the groups through the forest to meet woodland creatures who direct them (for a fee) to the high and low ropes course After completing a full day of outdoor activities the clues direct them back to the picnic/camping area. By this time they have collected enough information to follow 4 compass bearings to find the giant key.
Work cooperatively This day enables participants to learn new skills: Think creatively, and logically Choose individual physical challenges Exercise imagination Have Fun
Camping & Facilities Camping: Orton Bradley Park is a popular picnic area just 30 minutes from Christchurch. It is open to the public during hours of daylight, but closed overnight. The picnic area is perfect as a base for daytrips. With Orton Bradley Outdoor Education Centre you will be camping in your own secluded area away from the public picnic sites. You supply the tents, we'll supply the following Kitchen facilities: Three gas hobs Gas oven Instant gas hot water Wood burner Double stainless steel sink Pots, pans and cooking cutlery Gas BBQ Because there is no mains electricity in the kitchen, the freezer and fridge are in a building 200 m away. Shower block: 10 instant gas showers are available for your exclusive use. Toilets: The Park has two toilet blocks which are shared with the public Wet weather: If it is too wet to dine outside, there is room in the kitchen to seat your class. The historic schoolhouse is available for wet weather programmes. Orton Bradley Park is responsible for these camping facilities. Orton Bradley Outdoor Education Centre passes all fees onto Orton Bradley Park to use for maintenance and improvements.
