3 Athletics Events and Rules Years 5/6 Separate events for boys and girls Apart from relay which is mixed, 2 boys, 2 girls Track Events Field Events Rules 75 metres 150 metres 600 metres Mixed Relay - 2 girls 2 boys o running order at the discretion of team managers Vortex Howler Throw Long Jump, 10 metre approach, jump into pit Speed Bounce Competitors may take part in 1 track event, 1 field event + relay Track events take priority. Your athlete will be allowed to complete their 3 attempts following their track event. SPIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED Please can schools Gemma Unsworth at Holy Family with their Numbers on Roll in Years 5 and 6, so you can be placed in the correct category for events.

4 Cheerleading Years 3-6 Venue Athletics Arena or Sports Hall at Blackpool Sports Centre (weather dependent) Please ensure that children have appropriate clothing Teams Minimum of 8 children per school Schools are invited to select boys and girls for this event Format The event will take the form of a cheerleading competition Each team must come prepared with a routine that lasts a maximum of 5 minutes There must be no lifts in the routine Please bring your accompanying music on CD/iPod Pom-Poms can be provided This event is focusing on fun and participation Criteria The following 10 actions/skills will need to be performed to score a maximum of 100 points: : one foot stand : counter balance : 2 jumps (each one different) : use of unison and or cannon : group balance : interpretation of music chosen : arm positions : pattern/formation : use of space and direction : overall performance including choreography

5 Cricket Years 4/5 Teams consist of 8 players (Squads of 10) 4 Boys and 4 Girls in each team PLEASE NOTE THAT COMPETITION IS DELIVERED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LCB PRIMARY SCHOOL SCHOOL COMPETITION PATHWAY AND WILL SEE THE WINNING SCHOOL GO FORWARD TO THE LANCASHIRE COUNTY FINAL ON FRIDAY 10 JULY. Batting Team Teams bat in pairs Each pair faces 2 overs of 6 balls each. A player may be caught out; run out; stumped or bowled There is no LBW rule unless a player deliberately obstructs the wicket. A team starts with 200 runs. Every time a player is out 5 runs are deducted from the running total. When a player is out runs are deducted from the running total When a player is out the 2 batters change ends. Players change ends at the end of an over.

6 Bowling Team The 8 players rotate their fielding positions one place in a clockwise direction at the end of each over. X (wicket keeper) X X X X 16 metres X fielders X X (bowler) Every child bowls one over each. Wides and no balls will not result in an extra ball being bowled but will result in 2 Runs being added to the batting team s score. Children should be encouraged to bowl over-arm (minimum of the 1 st ball of every over). The ball should bounce no more than once before it reaches the batter otherwise this will result in a No-ball being given discretion should be given if the ball can still be hit after 2 bounces to allow play to flow.

7 Cycling Years 5/6 The event focuses on the bike control skills taught on the Bikeability course. Venue Stanley Park Athletics Arena Team Requirements School can enter one team of 4 boys and 4 girls Select children that completed Bikeability Levels 1 & 2 cycle training this year Equipment Cycle helmets to be supplied by the children / school Loan bikes only to be used and supplied by us for the races Order of Events With 8 school teams - Girls Slow Race x 4 Boys Slow Race x 4 Mixed Slow Race Final Girls 110m Race x 4 Boys 110m Race x 4 Girls 110m Race Final Boys 110m Race Final Girls Slalom Relay x 2 Boys Slalom Relay x 2 Mixed Slalom Final The Bikeability Cycle Instructors will be marshalling the event.

8 Dodgeball - Years 3/4 Squads to be made up of a maximum of 10 players. 5 players in a team with a minimum of one girl being on court at all times. Amount of games and format will depend on the number of schools, but focus will be on fun. Two pitches will be set out for two matches will be played at the same time. Each match will be best of three sets. Each set will last 2 minutes - or sooner if all players are out. Simple Rules If a player is hit by a ball then they are out, unless the ball has bounced first. You cannot block with another ball in your hand. The player that has thrown the ball, which is subsequently caught - is out. You cannot bring back a player if you catch a ball. At the end of the two minutes, the team that has the most players is deemed the winner. In the event of two teams with the same number of players, the match will continue until one of the players is out. Children from other schools will be active as ball boys / girls. Please can you ask that they put balls back on the cones that are set at the back of the court.

9 Early Years Festival Squad A squad of 10 5 Boys and 5 Girls Format The event will be a carousel of activities All activities will be explained on the day Staff can circulate with their team Events will be indoor so appropriate PE kit to be worn Please ensure all pupils have adequate drinks

10 Football Years 3/4 On arrival, each team should report to the All Weather Pitches where they will receive a programme showing groups and pitches. Football is open to Yr 3 and 4, mixed event (6 a side) Squads should be a maximum of 10 A minimum of two girls/boys on the pitch at all times. We ask that you bring children who have not had the opportunity to represent your school in football competitions. The emphasis on this competition is enjoyment and participation. There will be no overall winners, but a fair play trophy will be awarded. The Rules Each team should consist of 6 players: o 5 outfield players, 1 goalkeeper. Matches will be 6 minutes one way. All matches will start/finish on the horn. Rolling substitutes shall be permitted at any time during the game with the referee s permission. Goalkeepers are to return the ball back into play by throwing. All players must wear shin pads.

12 High 5 Netball Years 4/5 Players Netball is open to Yr 4 and Yr 5. Squads should be a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 9 players 5 players must be on the court at all times. Maximum of 3 boys per squad. Rules Event Please note that ball size will be size 4. The emphasis on this competition is enjoyment and participation and to give opportunities for children and staff to build on their knowledge of High 5 Netball in a fun and enjoyable environment. The competition will be played to the current official High 5 Netball Rules. Copies of these can be downloaded from the England Netball website. No player will be allowed onto court without the appropriate footwear with laces tied on top. All jewellery and watches must be removed and fingernails cut short. Long hair must be tied back. The Young Leaders will be responsible for umpiring/coaching your teams during their games. As the emphasis is on fun the games will be allowed to flow, with Young Leaders only stopping the game to coach a rule where they feel it necessary because of consistent infringement.

13 Hockey Rules Years 5/6 Hockey Years 5 and 6 Only Teams of 6 Squads of 10 Minimum of 2 Boys and 2 Girls on the pitch at all times There are no Goal-Keepers in Quick Sticks All children must wear shin-pads All schools must provide Hockey sticks Rules The game is started with a centre pass from one team which can be passed in any direction after the umpire has blown the whistle A centre pass is also taken at the start of each period of the game, and by the non-scoring team after a goal has been scored The direction of play for both teams is alternated at the start of each period of the game When a centre pass is taken at the start/re-start, each team must be positioned in their own half of the pitch and the opposing players must be a minimum of 3 metres from the ball, until the ball is played Scoring a Goal A goal is scored when the ball has been struck or deflected off a player s stick (either an attacking or defender s) from within the shooting area (circle), and it crosses completely over the goal-line A penalty goal will be awarded if a defending player deliberately stops a ball from crossing the goal-line with their feet or body

14 Free-Pass A free-pass is given when an offence occurs The free-pass must be taken from where the offence occurred A guide to offences is included with this rules sheet Until the free pass is taken, all players from the opposing team must be 3 metres away from the ball After touching the ball, the free-pass taker can not touch the ball again until it has been touched or played by another player (if the free-pass taker touched the ball twice, a free pass is awarded to the other team) For further information/tips please see:

15 KS1 Multi Skills Event Group Numbers Format A group of 10 5 Boys and 5 Girls Can be a mixture of Y1 and Y2 The event will be a carousel of activities All activities will be explained on the day Staff can circulate with their team Events will be indoor so appropriate PE kit to be worn Please ensure all pupils have adequate drinks

16 Road Race Years 3-6 The event will take the form of 4 races: 1. Years 3 & 4 Boys = 5.45pm 2. Years 3 & 4 Girls = 6.00pm 3. Years 5 & 6 Boys = 6.15pm 4. Years 5 & 6 Girls = 6.30pm Races will start with a lap of the Athletics Track The children will then be guided by race marshals to the route of the race course Races will finish with children running a final lap of the Athletics Track Children will receive their participation certificate once they have completed their run

17 Rounders Years 5/6 This year we are piloting a new, fun game of Rounders. The outfield will rotate positions every half innings meaning each player will play in each fielding position throughout the four innings. Batters will not be out but points will be deducted from the team s overall score; this is similar to the Kwik Cricket concept. Rounders Mixed Team of 8. A match consists of 4 innings. Fielding teams rotate every half innings (every 4 bats). Batting Team First Innings Batter hits from a tee (Only runs once the ball is hit) Second Innings Batter Self-feeds (Batter must run whether ball is hit or not) Final Two Innings Young Leader will bowl The batter has to run whether they hit the ball or not but does not have to run if bowled a no ball. The player can run until the bowler has the ball (there is no hit-behind rule ) Batters must run around the outside of the posts. Batters must make contact with the post when stopped and must touch the fourth post for rounder to count. Batters cannot over take any of their team mates when running around the posts. The players waiting to bat should wait well back from the player batting. Fielders There will be a backstop / 4 base fielders / and 3 deep fielders. There will be no bowler Base fielders should stand inside the posts so not to obstruct the batters. Fielders rotate in an anti-clockwise direction (BS 1 st F1 2 nd F2 3 rd F3 4 th BS)

18 Scoring 1 point is awarded if the player stops after touching first base 2 points are awarded if the player stops after touching second base 3 points are awarded if the player stops after touching third base 5 points are awarded if the player touches fourth base without previously stopping If a player is caught or stumped out the batting team will be deducted 2 points

19 Swimming Fun Gala Years 5/6 PALATINE LEISURE CENTRE ORDER OF EVENTS SWIM BALL RELAY TYRE RELAY FROG FLOAT RELAY INFLATABLE RELAY SURF BOARD RELAY ROOKIE RESCUE RELAY GALA RULES Schools can enter one team per race. Each team consists of a minimum of 4 swimmers made up of 2 boys and 2 girls. For the safety of all swimmers goggles are not permitted in the pool. Events are for Year 5 and 6 only. We ask you do not select swimmers who entered the Championship Gala to participate in this Fun Gala. Exceptions will be made for schools with lower year group numbers. All swimmers should be competent in deep water. If any school has swimmers who need shallow water please notify Jane Sutton before the day of the event: jane.suttton@blackpool.gov.uk Normal school swimming policy document rules apply to this event. All accompanying staff must be safety trained. Spectators are welcome at this event. An entry fee payable at reception on the day. Schools are requested to inform parents of this information and also that mobile phones and cameras may not be used in the spectator area of the pool.

20 Group Numbers Tag Rugby Skills Festival Years 3/4 Schools are invited to select up to 20 children for this event Venue Blackpool RUFC This event will take the form of the new RFU Kids First Rugby Programme and will see children take part in a range of rugby based activities in a carrousel format. The event is being delivered in partnership with the RFU and will be a great opportunity for teachers to see how they may be able to implement the new programme into both curricular and extracurricular plans in the future.

21 Tri-Golf Years 5/6 Venue Stanley Park All Weather Pitches Teams Maximum of 8 players per squad Golf Course Children will be put into teams will consist of 4 players The golf course will consisting of 8 holes (4 hitting and 4 rolling) Ideally each team will be accompanied by a teacher to help scoring and proceedings Only the best score will count per hole Fun and working as a team is the focus on every hole Skills Area Teams will consist of 4 players With a number of different games and challenges to play Each team will play at each stations for an allotted time then moving onto the next The games and challenges will be overlooked by the coaches and teachers for guidance and safety Aimed at promoting self-play and working as a team For more information please contact Charlie Beavers on: / cbgolfbeaver@gmail.com

22 Code of Conduct 1. All squads and teams shall be school representation rather than amalgamations of more than one school. 2. Schools should arrive for matches in good time to prepare thoroughly. 3. All participating children should turn up with appropriate kit for the activity. 4. Children should always warm up and cool down properly before and after each event. 5. Children should play for fun and enjoyment. 6. Children should be encouraged to learn and play by the rules and the spirit of the game they are participating in. 7. Children are encouraged not to argue with match officials and/or the coach and to channel their energy into taking part in the activity. 8. Children, teachers and spectators are to recognise and applaud all good play. 9. Children are encouraged to be a good sport - win with modesty, lose with dignity. 10. Children are encouraged to respect other people - treat them as you would wish to be treated. 11. Children are encouraged to co-operate with coach, teammates and opponents. 12. Children are requested to inform the official of any injury as soon as possible. 13. Children are encouraged to thank officials and opponents after competition. 14. Children are encouraged to think about improving their skills after training and competition.

23 Photographic/Video Camera Consent Throughout Blackpool Youth Games we will be taking photographs and videos of the young people participating in the events. Should one or a number of your children not have parental/guardian permissions to be included in our photographs or videos, could you please make the event organiser aware of this at the start of the event. Every measure will be taken to ensure that only young people who have been given permission are included in our photographs and videos. Thank You Sport Blackpool School & Community Team
