3 Example: Specimen 2015 Page 187 You will hear a biologist giving a talk about bats, and the problems faced by the species. Listen to the talk and complete the notes in Part A. Write one or two words only in each gap. You will hear the talk twice.

4 What should I do before listening? Circle or underline the key words. Predict which parts of speech could it be (noun, verb, adjective, adverb..etc), and whether the noun is singular or plural. Words like called, named are indicators that answers could be proper nouns (the names of specific people, countries, places, rivers, seas, movies..etc) Remember to write their initials in capital letters (upper cases) Sometimes you can find subheadings to help you

It s best to have more than one... inside a bat house. When bats are feeding, wind turbines should not operate.... are places where most bats are likely to drown. Avoid cutting your... (especially between May and September). it s much less likely to be occupied than if it s on a building or pole. I read that maintaining the proper temperature is probably the single-most important thing to get right. if there s just a single chamber in it, then they re not so likely to settle in it. Bats even drink water out of swimming pools though I read that that s the most common cause of drowning. In tropical areas, people shouldn t cut back the branches of their palm trees and in particular when bats are raising their young, from May to September.
