These shops will consist of waggon and carriage shops, smithys, shops for repairing and erection of locomotives, and for miscellaneous purposes. At the same time the shops that are now on the ground belonging to the Christchurch Station will be removed, as the whole of this space is required to be used as a proper station yard, which at present it cannot be. As an instance of the daily and rapidly increasing traffic on the Christchurch and Dunedin sections of the line, it may be mentioned that the traffic to date is thirty-two per cent higher than it was for the last six months of last year, and that it is still rapidly increasing, so that every yard of space at the main station is required. For fitting up the new shops referred to, orders have been sent to England and America for some 6000 worth of tools and machinery. The order was sent at the same time as that for the ten palace cars, four of which are to be second class and six first. bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=chp &srpos=104&e= chp%2cts-101- byda-on--0%22workshops%22+cricket-- Press, Volume XXXIX, Issue 5648, 25 October 1883, Page 2 Cricket. We understand that the challenge has been accepted, and the match will take place in Christchurch about the end of November.

In their second innings Hillside were all out for 22, Hobson 10. This left the local men with 25 to get, which number was obtained with three wickets down, Walmsley, with 9, not out, being the

This is the annual fixture between the Addington and Hillside (Dunedin) Railway Workshops. The friendly rivalry existing between the sister provinces is as noticeable in such matches as it is in those between the two Associations. Up to the present five matches have been played, three have been won by the Addington representatives and two by Hillside. The latter shop is now sending its men up with the intention of wiping off the deficit in the same manner that Otago's representatives in the higher walks of interprovincial cricket have done. It rests with the local men to see that they retain the position already gained, and we are sure that every endeavour will be made to do so. The team to represent Addington will be as follows: Ford, Jones, Walmsley, Wilson, Woledge, Williamson, Caygill, Harrison, Thomas, Halley, and Tregear, with Yemm, Johnson, and Round, as emergencies. bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=ow &srpos=127&e= byda-on- - Otago Witness, Issue 2283, 2 December 1897, Page 42 In a match Addington Workshops v. Heavy showers of rain occurred during the day, and made the ground, which had been kindly lent by the Opoho Cricket Club, very slippery, both for batsmen and fielders. Addington made 38 (Jones 26) and 50 (Jones 20, Halley 18) to Hillside's 130 (Jas. Garside 19, Lear 34-, M'Farlane 28, Hobson 12). In the evening the visitors were entertained at a dinner held in the Coffee Palace, where an excellent repast had been prepared by Mr Meyer. The chair was occupied by Mr Haskins, and Mr Warren was vicechairman. Among the large number of toasts honoured were "The Queen and Royal Family," "The Railway Officers," "The Army and Navy,"' etc. The following gentlemen rendered songs during the evening, contributing in a great measure to the success of the entertainment-- Messrs Black, Kelly, Halley, Towler, Hobson, Jolly, Toner, Frost, and Smart. Mr M'Kechnie danced a hornpipe, while Mr Home was all that could be desired as an accompanist. bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=chp &srpos=142&e= byda-on-- Press, Volume LVI, Issue 10493, 7 November 1899, Page 2 CRICKET.
