S. Figure Skating. Club, facility and USFS liability shall be governed by USFS Rule #1600. Competition level is based on the highest test passed as of June 8, Any skater who chooses may skate up one level. Two entries in a division will constitute a competition. Skaters will be grouped in events based on their testing status as of Friday, June 8, Entries must be postmarked on or before Friday, June 8, 2018 and must include the entry fee. Late entries will be notified if accepted and charged a $25 late fee. No refunds, including medical or religious, will be made after the closing date of June 8 unless there is a cancellation of a competition event. (USFS Rule #3045) There will be a $25 service charge for any returned checks which must be paid in cash, along with the entry fee, prior to the start of the competition. Any change in a skater s level or event after the entry deadline is subject to a $25 change fee. Make Checks Payable To: Chicago Open and mail to the Glenview Ice Center (address at top). Practice ice availability and reservation/payment procedures will be posted on our website at after the competition schedule is available. Music will NOT be played on practice ice sessions. Music All competitors must provide their music on compact disc. CD s should be of good quality with only one piece of music per disc. CD s should be clearly marked with the competitor s name & phone number, event, length, coach and home club or rink. CD s must be turned in at the time of registration. A duplicate disc should be readily available during the competition. CD s are to be picked up at the registration desk after the event is over. The Chicago Figure Skating Club and the Glenview Ice Center cannot accept responsibility for CD s. Music left behind will not be mailed back to the skater. Registration Check-In Skaters may check-in at the registration desk approximately 1 hour before the first event each day and will remain open until the completion of the final event of the day. Skaters should be at the rink at least 1 hour prior to their scheduled event. Always check with the registration desk for announcements of any changes to the competition schedule. Awards Trophies will be given in all events for the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places and ribbons will be given for 4 th and 5 th places. All awards will be distributed following the posting of the results for each event. Photography / Video No flash photography is permitted of the skaters on the ice. No tripods may be used and rink power sources may NOT be accessed. Only handheld video cameras are permitted. Videos and photographs of your competitor may be available for purchase in the Ice Center lobby during the competition or on-line in the weeks that follow. 4

5 2018 Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating The Skating Council of Illinois offers skaters the opportunity to earn an invitation to the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating by competing in designated Free Skate events at our competitions. Skaters who compete in Grand Prix eligible categories at a minimum of 5 Grand Prix competitions will be invited to compete, at no cost, at the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating, which will be held at the Centennial Ice Arena in Highland Park on September 23, Special recognition will be given to skaters who compete in all 9 events. 6 Awards: The designated Free Skate events of each competition will be eligible for accumulating points. The system for scoring points for the final award will be as follows: Placement Points Placement Points 1 st place 10 points 2 nd place 7 points 3 rd place 4 points 4 th place 3 points 5 th place 2 points Participation 1 point Bonus for Final Round 1 point Competitors who perform their free skate program more than once at a competition (i.e., initial and final rounds) will receive the highest points earned for any one performance. If an event has less than 6 skaters, the points will be awarded as if there were 6 skaters in the group. If there is only one skater in the group, he or she will be awarded 5 points. At the end of the Series, competitors who have competed in at least 5 competitions will be invited to the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Frequently Asked Questions How do I enter the Championships? Participation in the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating is by invitation only. To be invited to compete, you must have competed in eligible categories in at least 5 of the Grand Prix competitions. Eligible competitors will be sent invitations immediately following the Greater Chicagoland Fall Invitational. What does it cost to enter? There is no entry fee for the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating. The Skating Council of Illinois and our participating clubs are supporting this event. Practice Ice will be available for purchase. There will also be vendors, including video and still photography. Who will keep my points and how will I know how many points I have? Ed Mann, a National Accountant, will tabulate points as the season progresses. Standings will be posted on the Skating Council of Illinois web site at It is the responsibility of each competitor to verify the accuracy of the points posted on the website. Discrepancies should be brought to the attention of Ed Mann. What happens to my points if I change categories during the season? Your points stay with you if you skate at more than one level. Eligibility to skate at the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating will be determined by the competitor s most recent competition level. Who can I ask if I have more questions? Skaters may not enter both a Well Balanced Free Skate event and a Test Track Free Skate event at the same nonqualifying competition. 2. Skaters will skate to the music of their choice. Vocal music is permitted for pre-preliminary intermediate. 3. Level will be determined by the highest free skate test passed. Skaters may compete at the highest level they have passed, or skate up to one level higher. 4. Either IJS or the 6.0 judging system may be used for this event. 5. All relevant and appropriate IJS rules will be used.
