CONTENTS Hide and Seek Rex s Bath The Camp Out

Hide and Seek Let s play hide and seek, said Lucy. What is hide and seek? asked Jack. It s fun! said Lucy. Trust me. You will like it. 5

Lucy said, I will hide. You close your eyes and count to ten. Then try to find me! 6

Okay, said Jack. He began to count. 7

No peeking! Lucy said. She hid behind the big chair. This is a good hiding spot, she said. Jack will never find me! 8

Here I come! said Jack. He began to look for Lucy. 9

Lucy isn t in here, said Jack. But hide and seek makes me hungry. I ll have a snack. Then I ll look for Lucy. 10

Lucy waited for Jack. Maybe my hiding spot is too hard, she said. I ll stick out my leg so Jack can find me. 11

Jack ate his snack and went to find Lucy. I don t see Lucy anywhere, said Jack. 12

But I do see my blocks! I ll build a tower. Then I ll find Lucy. 13

Lucy waited and waited. This is taking too long! she said. Jack needs more help. 14

She stuck out her arm. She made a noise. Jack did not see her. 15

Jack finished his tower. All done! he said. Now I can look for Lucy. Maybe she is outside. 16

Jack did not find Lucy. But he did find Rex. Let s play, Rex! said Jack. Woof! said Rex. 17

Rex and Jack played and played. Soon they were tired. Rex, we must find Lucy! said Jack. But first, let s take a rest.

Lucy began to worry. Maybe Jack is lost! she said. I must go find him.

Lucy looked all over the house. 20

21

She could not find Jack. But she saw Rex on the big chair. What was under Rex? She went closer. And closer. There was Jack! 22

You were right, said Jack. Hide and seek is really fun! I found a snack. I found my blocks. And I found Rex! 24

I m glad you liked it, Lucy said. But next time, don t forget to find me! 25

26

Rex s Bath Rex is dirty, said Lucy. He needs a bath. Rex hates baths, Jack said. Yes, said Lucy. This will not be easy. 27

Lucy and Jack got a big tub. They got the hose. Rex hid under a bush. 28

We see you, Rex, said Jack. It s bath time, said Lucy. Get in the tub! 29

Woof! said Rex. He did not get in the tub. 30

Lucy pulled Rex. Jack pushed Rex. Move, Rex! they said. But Rex did not move. 31

Rex poked Jack with his nose. Hey, Jack! said Lucy. Rex wants you to get in with him. 32

No fair, said Jack. I don t need a bath. But Jack got in the tub. You come in too, Rex, he said. Rex just scratched his ear. 33

Jack splashed Lucy. Rex liked that. Woof! he said. Hey! said Lucy. Now I am wet too! 34

Rex wants you to get in too, Jack said. So Lucy got in the tub. Your turn, Rex! she called. Rex just rolled over. 35

Rex sniffed the soap. He wants some soap in the tub, Lucy said. 36

Yes, said Jack. Rex loves bubbles! Soon there were lots of bubbles in the tub. 37

Rex came over to the tub. Woof, Woof! he said. He wagged his tail. 38

Come on, Rex! said Lucy. Good boy, Rex! said Jack. But Rex just sniffed the bubbles. Then he sat down again. 39

Now what? asked Jack. Maybe the tub is too crowded, Lucy said. They got out of the tub. 40

It s your turn, Rex, said Jack. You must take a bath, Rex! said Lucy. 41

But Rex did not get in the tub. He lay down on the grass. He closed his eyes. He went to sleep. 42

Rex tricked us! said Jack. He did not take his bath! He is a smart dog, said Lucy. He gave us a bath instead! 43

44

The Camp Out Lucy and Jack got a new tent. Let s sleep in it! said Jack. Yes, Lucy said. Let s camp out in the yard! Lucy and Jack set up the tent. 45

They set up their sleeping bags. What else do we need? asked Lucy. 46

Jack said, I need my bear. He helps me sleep. Yes, said Lucy. I need my bunny. 47

Lucy found her bunny. But now my dolls will be lonely, she said. I ll take them too. 48

Jack got his bear. My trains also help me sleep, he said. So do my trucks and blocks. 49

What else? asked Jack. A book! said Lucy. We can t go to bed without a book. They went to find a book. 50

It s hard to choose, Jack said. Yes, said Lucy. They are all so good. They picked a lot of books. 51

How about snacks? said Lucy. Yum! said Jack. They went to the kitchen. Soon they had lots of snacks. 52

Now we have everything! said Lucy. We are ready to camp out. 53

But then No, Rex, no! said Lucy. Stop, Rex, stop! said Jack. Woof, woof, woof! said Rex. 54

Crash! went the dolls and toys. Plop! went the books. Splat! went the snacks. 55

Rex, Jack said. You are too big for the tent! No he s not, said Lucy. The tent is too small for our stuff. 56

They took out all the toys. They kept two books. They put the rest away. They ate some cookies. They took the other snacks inside. 57

58

Now the tent was just right. Come on in, Rex! said Jack. Lucy and Jack read two books. They gave Rex a pat. And they all went to sleep. 59
