3 15 MINUTES MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn 1. GREEN SEARCH WHAT YOU NEED: Green items from around the room BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Gather several green items from around the room (green dishes and foods from the play kitchen, green paper, green toys, etc.) and hide them in easily found places around the room. Count how many items you ve hidden so you can make sure the children find them all. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Gather the children in an open area of the room. Explain that you ve hidden a certain number of green items around the room for them to find. Once they find something green, they should return to the center of the room with their item(s). BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we re going on a green hunt! I ve hidden [number] green things around the room. Do you think you can find them all? Let s work together and go on a green search! AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Great job, friends! You found all the green things on our green search. I love the color green, don t you? Today we ll hear about something green in our Bible story. I can t wait! TRANSITION: Move to Worship and Story by naming different items and asking if they are green. You can name things that are and aren t green. Children will say yes or no to each item. Suggested items: bananas, trees, grass, the sun, limes, dogs, apples, lettuce, watermelon, pickles, cars, peas, friends, money, leaves, a Christmas tree, a frog, the ocean, turtles, etc The ReThink Group. 4 15 MINUTES PLAY an activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts 2. COLOR MATCH WHAT YOU NEED: Bush Activity Page; yellow, orange, green, and red cardstock; and yellow, orange, green, and red pom-poms BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy Bush onto the cardstock and lay the pages on the table or floor. You will need one page of each color. Place the pompoms in a large pile in the middle of the table or the floor. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Encourage the children to select pom-poms that match each color of cardstock. Have the children place the matching color of pom-pom onto each picture of the bush. Repeat the activity until all of the pom-poms are on the matching color of bush. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Point out the green bush and introduce the story. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: We have different colors of bushes! (Point.) DURING THE ACTIVITY: I also see different colors of pom-poms. Let s match the pom-poms to the different colors of bushes. (Pick up a yellow pom-pom.) Here is a yellow pom-pom. Can you show me which bush we should place the pom-pom on? (Pause.) YES! It goes on the yellow bush! Let s place all of the other pom-poms on the correct bushes. (Finish activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Great job! We matched all of the pom-poms to all of the bushes. We are going to talk about a bush in our story today. (Point to the green bush.) We are going to talk about a green bush and something AMAZING that happened! I am so excited! 5 15 MINUTES IMAGINE an activity that lets preschoolers pretend, imagine, and role play to enhance their learning 3. BUILDING A BUSH WHAT YOU NEED: A food strainer (make sure there are no sharp edges); and red, green, and orange pipe cleaners BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Place the strainer, upside down, in the middle of the table or floor. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Ask the children to use the green pipe cleaners to build a bush on the strainer by placing one end of the pipe cleaner into one of the holes. Continue placing the green pipe cleaners into the holes until the children are happy with their bush. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Finish the activity by encouraging the children to place the red and orange pipe cleaners around their bush to represent fire. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we are going to talk about a bush that was on fire! DURING THE ACTIVITY: Let s make our own bush. (Do activity.) Great job! Now let s put fire around the bush. (Finish activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: That is awesome! Great job building the bush and then adding fire to it. Now we are ready to hear our TRUE story from the Bible. 6 HEAR FROM GOD REVIEW MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn 1. WITH MOTIONS WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Say the memory verse and do the following motions in front of the children. Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Open your hands like a book.) DURING THE ACTIVITY: Say the verse again with the motions and invite the children to do it with you. Repeat several times. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: I am going to say our new memory verse today. Everyone watch me! Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Open your hands like a book.) DURING THE ACTIVITY: Now let s do it all together. Are you ready? (Say the verse with motions several times.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Our memory verse tells us that we can trust God with all our heart. We can trust that He will keep His promises. Who keeps His promises? 7 TALK ABOUT GOD REVIEW CREATE an activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home 2. HEY, THAT S A TALKING BUSH! WHAT YOU NEED: Moses and Sheep and Burning Bush Activity Pages, white cardstock, scissors, craft sticks (1 per child), glue sticks, and dot markers BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy the Moses and Sheep and Burning Bush Activity Pages onto cardstock and cut apart. You need one of each per child. Place the craft sticks, dot markers, and glue sticks in the center of the tables. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Pass out the two Activity Pages to each child. Then they can use the dot markers to paint the bush green and choose any color they d like to paint Moses. Once dry, help them glue the Moses and Sheep page to the craft stick, then flip over and glue the Burning Bush page to the opposite side. Encourage them to flip the craft stick back and forth to retell the story. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we heard about how Moses was out tending to his sheep when something crazy happened! What did he see? (Hold up the picture of the bush.) Yes a burning bush. It was on fire, but it wasn t burning up! And then God spoke to him through the bush. Let s use the dot markers to paint each picture. Make sure you use the green dot marker for the bush. Then once they dry, I want you to take this picture of Moses with the sheep (hold up) and glue it to one side of the craft stick. Then glue the picture of the bush (hold up) to the other side. DURING THE ACTIVITY: These look amazing. Let s hold up the side with Moses and the sheep. (Demonstrate.) One day, Moses was out taking care of his sheep. Then he saw something very interesting! There was a bush on fire. Flip your picture to the other side, friends. (Demonstrate.) When Moses got closer to the bush, he realized that the leaves were still green even though the bush was on fire. Then God spoke to Moses from the bush. He told Moses he had a very important job for Moses to do. And though Moses was scared about this big important job, God promised to be with Moses. AFTER THE ACTIVITY: God promises to be with us just like He was with Moses. And tell me, who keeps His promises? Yes, He does! 8 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY THINK an advanced activity specifically designed for older preschoolers 3. GO STORY WHAT YOU NEED: Story Cards Activity Page, white cardstock, and scissors BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy Story Cards on cardstock and cut on dotted lines. Each child will need four cards. You will need 8-10 extra cards. Copy as many pages as you need for the size of your class. DURING THE ACTIVITY: Place the cards in a deck face down. Shuffle the cards and deal each child four cards. Place the rest of the deck in the middle of the activity area. Encourage the children to lay the cards face up in front of them. Ask one child to choose one of their cards and ask a friend if they have the same card. If they do, have the friend give the first child the card. If they do not have the card, the friend says, Go story, and the child draws a card from the deck. Then allow the next child to have a turn. When a child has a pair of the same picture from the story then they can lay the pair aside. If the child is dealt a pair, simply lay it aside before the game starts. Be sure that every child has a turn. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Let s play a game! (Deal cards.) DURING THE ACTIVITY: There are different pictures from our story on our cards. The person who goes first will pick a card in their hand and ask a friend if they have the same card. First, look in your hand and see if you have two of the same picture. If you do, lay them next to your other cards. Now let s play! (Choose a child to go first.) Ask a friend for a match to any card that you have. If you are asked for a card and you have it then you can give it your friend. If you do not have it, say, Go story, and your friend will draw a card from the deck. (Play game.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: You did a great job playing our game. I am glad we played that game today. Our pictures on our cards are a sheep, Moses, a burning bush, and Moses standing by the burning bush. 9 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY MOVE an activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn 4. OUR OWN WHAT YOU NEED: Red and yellow streamers cut into 2-foot lengths for the children and green streamers cut into 2-foot lengths for the Leader DURING THE ACTIVITY: Gather the children in a circle in an open area of the room. Pass out the yellow streamers to half of the children and the red streamers to the other half of the children. Hold the green streamers in the center of the circle. Explain that your green streamers are the bush from today s Bible story and the yellow and red streamers are the fire. Shake your green streamers and call different children to the center to create the fire. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Today we heard the incredible story of Moses and the burning bush! DURING THE ACTIVITY: These streamers are the bush. Listen carefully as I call you to come to the center and shake your streamers to be the fire! Okay, all my red streamers come to the center. (Pause as children move.) Great! You can head back to your spot. Now, yellow streamers to the center. (Pause as children move.) Great job! You can head back to your spot! Okay, now everyone move to the center. Wow! Look at the bush. It s burning, but the leaves are still green. Way to go, friends. You can head back your spots. (Gather all the streamers from the children and encourage them to sit down.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Can you imagine how CRAZY it was for Moses to find that burning bush and THEN to Hear from God? But that s exactly what happened. God told Moses He had a very important job for him to do, and He promised that He would be with Moses. (Pause.) 2018 The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 9

10 LIVE FOR GOD APPLICATION ACTIVITY CREATE an activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home 5. WHAT YOU NEED: Bush Craft Activity Page; white cardstock; green construction paper; pencil; scissors; red, yellow, and orange paint; small paper plates; glue sticks; and several large pom-poms BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: Copy the Bush Craft Activity Page onto the white cardstock. Use the pencil to trace the child s hand onto the green construction paper and cut out. Pour each color of paint onto a plate. (OPTIONAL: If you do not have time to make a handprint for each child, you may simply choose to trace the child s hand with a green marker.) DURING THE ACTIVITY: Glue the handprint in the middle of the cardstock. Give each child a pom-pom and challenge them to dip it into the paint and dot paint on top of the handprint. Encourage each child to use all three colors of paint while using a different pom-pom for each color. Continue the activity until there is enough red, yellow, and orange paint on top of the handprint to represent the burning bush from the Bible story. BEFORE THE ACTIVITY: We heard an amazing story today. Our story told us that God always keeps His promises. We are going to make a burning bush just like the one in our story. You can take it home and tell your families all about it. DURING THE ACTIVITY: First we need to glue on our bush. (Give each child an Activity Page and a handprint.) Great job! Now choose a pom-pom (point) to dip in the paint and paint fire onto the bush. (Finish activity.) AFTER THE ACTIVITY: Great job! That is a perfect burning bush. 11 PRAY TO GOD PRAYER ACTIVITY REFLECT an activity that encourages personal application and prayer 6. JOURNAL AND PRAYER WHAT YOU NEED: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Small Group time. Let s pretend we re walking with a big stick like Moses. Follow me! (Pretend you have a big walking stick as you lead the children to your Small Group spot.) Here we are! Let s sit down and talk about today s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me! (Open the Bible and lay it open in front of the children.) Our Bible story today was about a man named Moses and a promise God made to him. Do you remember how God spoke to Moses in our story today? (Pause for response.) Yes! God spoke to Moses through a burning bush! He gave Moses a pretty big job to do and promised that He would always be with him. And when God makes promises, I want us to remember that so when I ask you, Who keeps His promises, I want you to say, Ready? Who keeps His promises? CHILDREN AND SGL: SGL: Again! CHILDREN AND SGL: SGL: And because God loves us and keeps His promises, we can trust Him with all our heart, just like our memory verse tells us to do The ReThink Group. All rights reserved. 11

(Open your hands like a book.) (Close Bible and lay it down.) Let s stand up and say that together with the motions so we can always remember to trust God with all our heart. Just say what I say and do what I do. CHILDREN AND SGL: Trust the LORD (point both index fingers straight up in the air) with all (stretch your arms out wide) your heart (bring both hands together over your heart), Proverbs 3:5. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with motions a few times.) Good job! (Give two thumbs up.) Let s sit back down so we can write in our prayer journal. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) Today we are going to make a list of places. It can be anywhere! It can be the doctor s office, or when it s dark and you re going to sleep, or when you re riding way up high in an airplane. It can be any place you can think of. When we pray, I will use the list to thank God for keeping His promise to always be with us. When I say your name, just name one place and I ll write it down. Listen for your name! (Say each child s name and write down what they say. Remember to print the names so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) Good job! Thank you for naming all of these places. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) PRAYER SGL: Dear God, thank You for promising to always be with us. It means a lot, because You always keep Your promises. It makes me feel so good inside to know You are always with (name each child).
