2 DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 2 Sunday 14 th of December Down GAA once again hosts our Christmas Cookery Demonstra0on and Cra2 Fair in the Canal Court Hotel Newry. In 2013 this was a great success and we are hoping to build on this success and have enlisted the help of our fellow Gaels in Camogie and Ladies Football. This will be a night for the benefit of the whole Down GAA family and we hope that going forward we will see more coopera0on between the codes as we try to develop the Down GAA brand as one family. The Chefs of the Canal Court Hotel and the Carrickdale Hotel will come together to share their exper0se in cooking the perfect Christmas Lunch and there will be lots of 0ps for the aspiring cooks. We will also have a special guest in ayendance on what promises to be a great night at the home of our sponsors the Canal Court Hotel & Spa, Newry. People wishing to exhibit in the Cra[ Fair should contact the Down GAA Office and leave their details so if any of your Club Members have an interest in exhibi0ng at the Fair please let them know as soon as possible. 3 DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 3 CLUB DOWN ALL STARS 2014 The O'Reilly Transport Ireland Club Down All Stars 2014 is fast approaching. The big night takes place on Friday 5th December in the Canal Court hotel, Newry. As expected tickets are selling very fast due to the prominence of these awards, the media attention that they have attracted and the buzz among the GAA fraternity in the county. Clubs with players on the nominee list will obviously have a large representation. However, clubs that do not have nominees are still encouraged to attend. It would be brilliant if each club had at least two representatives and these reps could be seated amongst other club reps within the county. This promises to be a huge night in the GAA calendar and attendance from all our clubs would make it a very special occasion. Tickets can be ordered and paid for through the following Club Down reps: Tickets for the event are 30: Pat O Hare ( / ), Brian McGreevy ( ). Gerry Tumelty ( ) and Mark Fitzsimons ( ).
4 DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 4 IMPROVEMENTS TO MEMBERSHIP SYSTEM A review of the member registration component of the GAA Management System (GMS) was recently completed and it highlighted a lack of regulation from many County Committees and Central Council in respect of member registrations, a lack of appropriate training for Clubs and Counties, and the unusable state of the information for communicating with members. Ard Chomhairle recently approved a plan to improve the membership system. Two important elements of this plan were the designation of responsibility for membership to IT Officers (or another member of County Board/Committee) and the training of IT Officers and Club Registrars. Benefits of cooperation from Counties include: More accurate personal information on members More usable information to contact members e.g. Events, Fixtures, Results, Tickets, Merchandise, Affinity Programmes Less duplicate registrations Efficient player registrations after transferring More frequent use of electronic team sheets More representative player, member and Club reports More accurate Club Administrator details Better regulation of registrations Improved protection of data Re-introduction of membership cards Responsibility for Membership All Counties are asked to assign responsibility for membership to their IT Officer or where this is not possible, to an existing County Board Officer or member of the County Committee. The person selected will be expected to: Attend a training day in Croke Park (or Online Training if this is not possible) in Jan 2015 Arrange a training evening for Club Registrars in January 2015 Monitor weekly registration reports Update Clubs at each County Committee meeting on the status of registrations Review registrations with the relevant Administrator in Croke Park after March 31 Liaise with Servasport and the relevant Administrator in Croke Park on issues Ideally, the person selected would be the IT Officer for your County as a current responsibility of this Officer is ensuring that adequate training is provided for the online registration system. It is recognised that IT Officers played a major role in the original rollout of the GMS and in certain Counties still do tremendous work in this regard. Training As past few years, Counties have been left to themselves to arrange training for Club Registrars if they wished to do so. Whilst this has been successful in some Counties, it is now considered that it should be made mandatory for all Counties in This training is likely to cover: Getting Started Protocol for New Registrars Add, View, Register Members Duplicate Member Detection Communications SMS and Teams, Groups, Committees, Families Player Transfers Generating Reports Paying Fees Helpdesk and Resources RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME The new Rural Development Programme is due to start distributing funding to Rural Communities, Farming, Business and Statutory sectors from mid The new bodies to make decisions on how this money is to be distributed are being formed now! These new Local Action Groups will replace the existing DRAP and SOAR groups. You are invited To be part of the Action by attending one of the Public meeting in your area. Newry, Mourne & Down Council area: (meetings pm) 25 th November, St Patricks Centre, Downpatrick 27 th November, Downshire Arms, Hilltown 1 st December, Crossmaglen Community Centre, Crossmaglen 3 rd December, Kimorey Arms Hotel, Kilkeel

Would your club be interested in a collaboration with Half Solid Productions that, without huge effort on your part, could yield a profit for your coffers while also proving a night of good entertainment for your members and local community. The Pull is a two-act comedy show which tells the story of the fictional (but oh-so-real) Ballybore GAA Club. The club finds itself in what it believes to be severe debt, and the members set about putting their finances back in order with a major fund-raiser. The play has an abundance of comedy on the surface and deals with more serious issues at a deeper level. It is suitable for audiences of all ages - no bad language or inappropriate humour. More details of the show are available Full details of how you can bring The Pull to your venue are available wttps:// d6k09zeqycdnhv2/thepull-roi- BookingInfo-NonGAAClubs.pdf A number of clubs have made 4,000 profit from staging The Pull - they were attracted to the fact that all they had to do was sell tickets as we did more or less everything else. In some cases, it has been used effectively a fundraiser for a wing of your club for example, by one particular team or a Bord na nóg section. We plan to stage The Pull at two venues in Co. Down over the coming winter/spring, so if your club is interested, get in touch asap.

11 DOWN GAA - WORKING TOGETHER Page 11 ULSTER GAA LAUNCH NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH 3Five2 HEALTHCARE This project has been under development for about year and was devised following a meeting with Ulster s 9 County Secretaries when it was agreed that Ulster GAA would approach several private healthcare providers. The aim was to try and put together a deal that would see our players at County and Club level get an agreed discount on the private healthcare provision that we currently have in place for all our players via the injury scheme. The new agreement between 3five2 and Ulster GAA is the first partnership of it s kind between a governing body of sport and a healthcare provider. 3five2 will provide a range of services for Ulster GAA which will cover the needs of 90,000 players and 250,000 GAA members in Ulster. This is a good agreement as our medical costs are significant and this partnership gives players and members the best possible heath care package for spend with the added bonus of the GAA being able to support local business. It is vitally important for everyone to note that this is not an exclusive deal as Clubs and Counties can still go to whatever healthcare provider they wish however this is a competitive option with fixed costs for all procedures from a company that is supporting the GAA with an exclusive reduction on their services. We are also pleased that 352 will also provide reductions on their services for all our members and as part of the deal have agreed to sponsor our Health and Wellbeing programmes and they have also put in place a set rate for First Aid and Defibrillation Courses. 3Five2 provide a number of healthcare services throughout the 3five2 Group including: Kingsbridge Private Hospital Private Casualty Scans and Diagnostics Surgery National Sports Clinic Cardiac Sports Screening Dental Excellence Mouthguard's Dental Injuries Training Academy Defib Training Sports Specific First Aid Training

REFEREES PAYMENTS At the mee0ng of the County CommiYee on the 27th November the subject of referees payments will be discussed with a recommenda0on from Coiste Banis0 that payments to Referees in 2015 be made by the home Club prior to the commencement of the fixture.
