1 Mungret Club Notes 4 Nov 2014 U11 Camogie The under 11 camogie team, for our available players born 2003 and 2004, took to the field for game one of our short winter league against Ballybrown on Sunday Oct 26 last. Ballybrown have been a bit stronger than us in recent years at these ages, and so it proved again last Sunday. However we were missing a huge number pf players, and the girls showed some great skill. Ciara O Keefe, Ciara Brennan and Jenny Lynch were outstanding in defence, Aela Gleeson and Amy Connolly sent in several fine clearances, with Aoife Ryan and Ella Mason working very hard up front, while Aisling McGuinness and Fiona Kinnevane got better and better as the game went on. Another factor that did our chances no good was a nasty injury suffered by Tara Nealon which necessitated a visit to A&E. We would like to wish her all the best as she recovers and thanks to the staff of the Regional Hospital for looking after her so well. Schools competitions Well done to the schools teams from St Nessans and St Pauls, who both featured several Mungret players while winning the respective A and B competitions in the City Schools Football Championship at the Gaelic Grounds recently. St Pauls Team in side profile Scor A final reminder that anybody interested in taking part in Scór Na nóg this year and representing Mungret St Pauls GAA club please contact Anne A Scór Na nóg night will be held on Friday 7th November 2014 at 7:30pm in Mungret GAA club house. A 2 donation towards the running expenses of the competition can be given at the door. Scór is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social/fun element of Ireland s traditional past-times. The competition was established by the GAA in 2

3 1969 with the aim of promoting Ireland s traditional past-times and culture while offering club members the chance to meet up, have fun and represent their club during the winter months while Hurling, Football, Handball, Camogie, Ladies Football and Rounders had ceased. There are 8 events/disciplines in Scór that cover all aspects of Irish culture. Scór na nóg is for people under 17 years. We had a very successful season with them having won all our matches but one. A small reward for them was to be allowed to train at the Gaelic grounds for our last session which went over very well with them. Movember 3

4 It has arrived the month where men show off their great achievements on their top lips! thank you again to all our men who took part last year. This year we have a few of the same men and new ones on board. It is still not too late to take part. The whole idea of the mustaches is to promote awareness of mens health and to remind them how important it is to check themselves if you are in any way worries about anything go to your doctor and get it properly checked. Some of our Mo Bros signed up for this year are Harry Barry, John Hassett, Tony Murphy, Mike Fitzgerald, Joe Harrington, Vinny Foley, John Rochford and Dec Browne. If you would like to join our merry men in their cultivating of their moustaches you can contact Wanda Dwane on Christopher John have come on board this year again to help tame the hairy lips for free. 6 Tuesday 11th November Camogie AGM in the lounge in the club house at 8pm all welcome to attend Friday 7th December AGM- Nominations and motions still welcome Maurice Walsh on before 1st December Teresa Fitzgerald Mungret St Pauls GAA Club wish to pass on our appreciation to Teresa Fitzgerald who has been our Club/Schools link coach for the past two years. Teresa has moved on to employment pastures new and we wish her well with that. In the two years Teresa's interaction with the schools ensured that all national school children in the area got the opportunity to sample our Gaelic Games and she encouraged large numbers to make the begin engaging in Club activities - she was a firm favourite with students and teachers alike and is held in the highest regard as she continues coaching with the Club. The Club are now seeking expressions of interest in taking up the role vacated by Teresa to begin in January 2014, anyone that requires information about this can contact Kevin O'Hagan. In the interim Camogie Coaching coordinator and U11 coach, Liam O'Gorman, will take on this role until the end of term, and we wish Liam all the very best. 6
