1 University of East Anglia Broad Fishing Season Bailiff Report by Stephen Bennett Compiled and edited by Roger Humphrey Tue Mar 31st A Final day Carp for a riverside night rod, a stunning Fully Scaled Mirror at 18.8lb. Well done Matt. Rain lashed down all night with winds rising. After a couple of the usual night Bream my alarms screamed off at 5.50am "I'm into another Carp" 10 mins later it's head came over the net. aghhh not a Carp but a stunning 21.2lb Pike!? Ah well, I'll take that the biggest Pike out of Broad in 4 years. Matt bagged another cracking linear Mirror at 17lbs. Typical, they have woken up on last day! What a hectic night with hurricane gales and rain. My adventures for that night can wait for one of my closed season blogs lol. Still howling winds with all rods gone at 8 pm. That's it for 2 months. Mon Mar 30th Bream again for me with 1 nice slab but no Carp runs? Windy morning with a uniside rod bagging some lovely Slabs to a feeder. 5 rods on for last night some nasty weather on way!!! Sun Mar 28th A damp wet wild windy day greeted the rods this morning, though mild. No luck to the 10 rods last night. Thunderstorms and gale winds left the Broad with no rods on midday. I returned for last session on riverside for another other rods setting up for the night in high winds. Please remember rods in at sunset last day on Tuesday! Sat Mar 28th A sleepless night for me with Bream all through the night! 3 early morning course rods on. 10 night rods arriving, giving it a last chuck. At least it's a lovely mild night with warm westerly s. Fri Mar 27th Quiet night with 1 early morning Bream, still no Carp shows. 4 course rods on with some finding quantities of silverfish. 3 day Carpers on. Evening calmer and getting milder. 5 night rods. Thurs Mar 26th One lost run last night to a uniside rod. Fresh morning. I'm on for another 48 with a Bream in first few seconds! No shows. Evening cold with just me and 1 other night rod on. Wed Mar 25th Another bright yet chilly morning with 7 on. Some nice dark Bream to uniside feeder rod. Still Carp very elusive with only a handful of fish in last 2 months. Evening still breezy with 5 on for the night. Tue Mar 24th North Westerly breeze and a little chilly! Just Bream to night rods. A nice 1lb + Rudd and Bream to riverside shallows feeder rod. A couple of Bream to uniside rod. 4 on this morning. Mon Mar 23rd Nice morning on the Broad. 5 course rods on, rivers must be shut. Lol. Uniside feeder bagging plenty of Roach and decent Perch and another with some nice dark slabs. No Carp to night rods. Evening lovely and mild and calm with no shows! Just 2 on tonight. Sun Mar 22nd

2 Another weekend with no Carp caught from the Broad! and a peaceful night s sleep for me. lol Surely we must see Carp to nets before close down in 9 days. 3 course rods on and 2 day Carpers on, in glorious sunshine, but still a bit chilly. Sat Mar 21st Back come the bitterly cold north winds with rain overnight, no runs to rods. I had half a dozen Bream but no Carp runs again! Other night rods had some Slimmies and Tench. 4 night rods on. Fri Mar 20th Sunrise all round but saw no shows? Gone quite again. No fish to night rods. Afternoon bright and sunny saw several Carp topping in the snags on uniside island. I'm on for the weekend on the uniside. A lovely mild afternoon. And 6 other Carpers on for the night. Thu Mar 19th Cold winds today with no shows reported. 4 Greylags and 6 Canada Geese on this morning. The evening has fresh easterlies? 4 on for the night. Wed Mar 18th 5 Carp reported rolling in narrows! One was the small Goldfish. 5 on for the day with 4 night rods. Tue Mar 17th Another mild day with quite a bit of movement with Carp and Bream! Are the Carp waking up at last or another false dawn? 4 on it with 1 lost Carp run on uniside arghh! Mon Mar 16th Closed river season is now upon us? Our Broad still open until March 31st. Night Members should get renewal letter soon. A nice mild morning. A Feeder rod having a great morning with a good bag of Bream off the uniside. 1 day Carper on and 3 arriving for a night session. A few Carp starting to show at last. Sun Mar 15 th Just some liners during the night but no more shows? A milder morning with no luck to fellow Carper. There was an early morning course rod on, but he packed early up before I packed up and went around the broad. No night rods on yet. Sat Mar 14th At least I saw my first Carp in two months roll in front of me, so maybe they are on the move? Very load party at uni til the wee small hours! Just an early morning Bream for me. Just me and 1 other Carper on for the night. Fri Mar 13th No shows last night? I'm on Peg 10 for the weekend, wind turned very cold and north, right up my front garden path, lol. Just 2 other Carpers on with me. Thu Mar 12th No frost today with easterly breeze but nice in the sun. A Carper has over a dozen Bream on a 48 sesh on the riverside? Some nice Roach to pole rod, uniside. 7 night Carpers trying for the very elusive beasts. Wed Mar 11th Frosty sunrise and sunny morning. Just 2 Bream to last night s 5 Carpers! Still no shows yet, but the Tench seem to be moving now so Mr Carp can't be far behind. Calm evening with 3 night rods on the riverside. Tue Mar 10th

3 Another sunny, mild morning with lots of students enjoying the sun and 5 Carpers and 1 course rod on the uniside with a few Bream and a lovely Tench about 5lb, nice. Bream to Carpers. Afternoon starting to chill but calm with minus night temps due. 4 on f or the night. Mon Mar 9th New easterly breeze early morning with a surprisingly hard frost?? Bream rod on uniside found a few bream but called it a day after bright sun turned them off the feed. 4 day Carpers with no joy. Late afternoon breeze turned back from the west then calm again at sunset. 2 night rods on. Sun Mar 8th A very mild night again, with no runs. 2 other night rods with same result. Spent the afternoon roaming pegs with an hour in each, still no signs? What are these Carp up to? Sat Mar 7th Nice mild night with a couple of liners and no shows. Lovely morning with a brisk westerly and hundreds of runners going round and round Broad? Fri Mar 6th 1 course rod on the uniside with no luck. Milder today. I'm on tonight uniside for a other night rod on too. The Tench should start showing about now! ThuMar 5th Cool morning with fresh winds, warmer temps forecast. No runs to last night s 2 rods. 1 course rod on. A calm evening no rods. Wed Mar 4th Sunny fresh morning with forecast of milder weather for weekend. 2 course rods and 2 day Carpers. A f ew fish to course anglers. 2 night rods on the uniside. 1 on the backboards. Tue Mar 3rd A fresh westerly breeze this morning. A few nice Bream to a uniside feeder rod. No luck again to last night s 3 Carpers? Late afternoon saw calmer conditions with no rods on. Mon Mar 2nd High winds still pounding the Broad this morning with no runs to the 2 night rods. A course rod on uniside had a nice morning sesh with 10 Bream, lovely.winds started to calm late evening with 3 on tonight. Sun Mar 1st Well, last month of our season! Wow that year has flown by so quickly. A bright morning after a very mild but very windy night! No luck to the 3 Carpers on it. My Bivvy was rocking on its hinges all night with the gale, just 2 Bream in the early morning. Sat Feb 28th Windy cold night with a Gale blowing straight at me dohhh! Just one liner, about 11pm. 2 other rods on with no luck. Rain forecast with further strong winds. Fri Feb 27th Lovely sunny morning, not to cold. I'm on for a weekend session on Peg 45? Fingers crossed. No rods on. Thu Feb 26th

4 No rods on in the late afternoon. Watched a stunning Peregrine Falcon over the Broad for 15 minutes being harassed by 2 Crows? Probably the male from the pair nesting on our Cathedral Spire? Lovely. Wed Feb 25th Another no news day lol. Got to admire the 2 or 3 rods that are putting in a lot of effort and enduring the many blanks this winter. Your time will come I'm sure before the season finally ends. Tue Feb 24th Quiet night for the 3 rods on. A couple of Bream off the stinks to a day rod. Milder today with 3 on again tonight. Mon Feb 23rd Another chilly day. With 3 Carpers setting up for night sessions. Only 1 lump out at the weekend? I think we may see a few more runs in the milder weather next week? Sun Feb 22nd Just 2 day Carp rods on with no shows. I'm on Wed/Thu night if all goes to plan! No night rods on tonight. Sat Feb 21st Bitterly cold, but bright sunshine. No runs to the 2 Carpers last night. No afternoon rods on today. Fri Feb 20th At long last a lump out!! Mark Green was delighted with a 9am run and netting 3star at 28.13lb plus a nice Tench and half dozen Bream, nice session Mark. Let's hope it's now munch time for the Carp. Thu Feb 19th Sunny morning turning to rain through the night. No afternoon rods on. 1 night rod setting up on the riverside. Wed Feb 18th Sunny again all day, but chilly in a brisk breeze. Escorted 2 Carpers off on the riverside, no permits I think they were German?? No other rods on. Tue Feb 17th No shows to last night s Carper. Feeder rod on uniside shallows with some Bream and lost a big fish on sunken island? 2 day Carpers on for this sunny day. No night rods. Mon Feb 16th Not a bleep last night and off at 10 rain on the way. 2 course rods on uniside with slow action. Cloudy and not so cold, with 1 night rod on. Sun Feb 15th A quiet night to all rods with still no Carp runs? Very cold and windy all day. Just me, on tonight. Night temperatures seem to be milder than days? The Carp have got to show before the season closes. Sat Feb 14th I'm on for 48 hours off uniside beach peg. A couple of liners during the late evening. 4 other night rods, no day anglers. Mild night with an open Bivvy! Fri Feb 13th

5 A luckless night to all 5 anglers last night. A cloudy easterly wind this afternoon with 3 on tonight. 1 deeps, 1 narrows, 1 shallow side of buoys. Thu Feb 12th Again not a single bleep from the 3 Carpers last night? All staying for another night with 2 more on the riverside shallows. Wed Feb 11th No liners or runs to last night s riverside rod. 1other day rod, carping. Chilly but calm evening. 3 Carpers setting up on the high bank deeps. A feeder rod on uniside found some nice Bream. Tue Feb 10th Cloudy and quite mild, with 1 day and 1 night Carper on. Followed a distressed Swan around for an hour until he came out of broad and no snag lines on him? Must have had ticks? lol Mon Feb 9th No late afternoon rods on in this cold cloudy day. Noticed dead Grebe in snags off Peg 12, must have perished in freeze up poor chap? No night rods on. Sun Feb 7th A clear ice free mild sunny morning greeted the 10 rods for the finale in the Pike Match Series. A little slow, but 5 fish came to nets. Len Stewart taking top spot with 2 fish for 20lb 8oz me(stephen) coming in second second with 10lb 4oz with John Ford 3rd with 6lb 10oz. Ben Rhodes taking the Biggest fish of the Series Trophy with last month s 15lb 10oz fish. Well done lads and thank you all for your support. No night rods on. Sat Feb 6th No runs to last night s 3 Carpers all waking up to a frozen lid on although turning quickly to thin slush and thawing due to higher temps today. Just 1 Carper on for the night. Fri Feb 5th Very cold winds with ice abound. No day rods and just 2 setting up for the night. Thu Feb 4th Broad starting to freeze again with only a few margin pegs ice free. 2 day Carpers with no luck. No night rods. Wed Feb 4th Had to pack up fishing about 2 am. Broad had totally frozen over, fish safety! Did not want to hook a Carp and get cut off on ice. So had nice peaceful sleep in the Bivvy instead. Had breakfast while Bivvy thawed out and went home mid morning. Only thin ice. so hopefully ok for Sunday s Pike match. Tue Feb 3rd Woke to margins in the deeps frozen. Pulled rods in while winds blew away, then recast. Whip on uniside with silver fish to net. 2 Pike rods on with no runs. 20 other fishermen on? 14 Cormorants, 4 Grebes and 2 Goosanders!!!! Never seen so many pesky Cormorants!!! Mon Feb 2nd Forecast cold and snow and I'm doing a 48 hour sesh lol. Some big Bream overnight kept me awake but no Carp. 1 other Carp rod on for the night. Sun Feb 1st

6 A new month Wow! It ll soon be those hazy summer days! No runs to last night s 2 rods. Feb started damp and wet. A Carper landed a nice Tinca midday and a lovely 15lb Pike latched onto a Piker s bottom-rigged Sprat. Let's hope the new month brings a few long awaited Carp runs. Sat Jan 31st Early hard frost cleared by 7am. A nice mild morning and not to cold. 2 day rods on with a dropped run to a deeps peg! Fri Jan 30th Bright sunshine with a light covering of snow! Just two roaming Pike rods on today with 1 Jack to net. No night rods on. Thu Jan 29th Just 1 day Carper on today in cold winds. A light covering of snow at sunset. No night rods on. Wed Jan 28th Early morning rain and high winds greeted the 4 night anglers today, with only Bream to nets and no Carp shows or runs. Evening, no rods on. Tue Jan 27th No luck again to last night s rods. A roaming Pike rod found a nice 17lb'er to a sinking lure. 4 Carpers on for the night on the uniside. Nice weather not too cold with rain and high pressure due. Mon Jan 26th Finished my 2 day sesh with only Bream. No Carp but you still learn and enjoy being out there. Took some nice wildlife shots, though. 2 day Carpers on and 3 settling in for the night. Sun Jan 25th Just an early sunrise Bream, for me. No other signs and no Carp runs to the other 2 night rods. Warm midday sun was welcomed. Just me on Broad tonight with rain forecast. Time for a full Breki. lol Sat Jan 24th Rain and wind last night has cleared most of the ice. I'm on for a 48 with 2 other night rods and 2 day Carpers. Still cold, but milder weather is coming in. Fri Jan 23rd Broad totally frozen out after last night s lows of -7 but forecast was -1. (Lol) they got that wrong! First total lid in 2 years. Rain due overnight so I may still get my 2 nights in. Thurs Jan 22nd All ice now clearing on the Broad with a new easterly breeze. Warmer temps forecast for weekend +5/6DEg C, nice. I will be on for 48 hour sesh Sat/Sun night. Just 1 roaming Pike rod on today. 1 night rod setting up but a freeze looks imminent! Wed Jan 21st A cold night frost and calm conditions results in a thin layer of ice on most of Broad, but margins still fishable. Should clear in next 24 hours. Just 1 day Carper on. Tues Jan 20th Good old frost on first thing, with majority of the broad under a thin layer of ice. A uniside night rod bagged a mid-double fin perfect, Mirror about midday. Nice, at last they are having a feed! 2 fish in 3 days!

7 Mon Jan 19 th A cold frosty day with just 2 day carp rods on in the deeps, with some liners. Hmm, are they starting to move and feed? Just the one late rod on for the night with the Broad starting to freeze up in the shallows. Sun Jan 18th Just me and another night rod on, who is now packing away. Last night surprisingly, was mild with no frost and no runs. Still. next time. Sat Jan 17th Just me and 1 other night rod on today, with Gavin Sillett bagging the first Carp in 9 weeks from the Broad at 8am, a nice 17lb Mirror in mint condition. Very cold last night down to -4 and a blanket of snow at 10am. No runs for me. Another Carper by me setting up for the night. Fri Jan 16th Me on early and setting up for a 48 hour session on peg 28 riverside. 4 other day Carpers also on riverside later on, with no runs or sign. A feeder too, on early on the uniside with no luck yet. Another night rod setting up late for the night on Peg 25. Going to be a cold one. Brrrrr Thur Jan 15th Not too cold on the Broad today with 1 day and 2 night Carpers on the riverside deeps. I saw a few Bream rolling off the narrows.and 4 pesky cormorants on! Wed Jan 14th High winds with white horses today. 3 day Carpers and 1 settling in for the night. 3 Bream to day to Carpers. No course rods. Tue Jan 13th 3 night and 2 day Carpers on. Cold and windy again with little action. Carp are becoming very hard to find. Still I'm sure the last 2 months things will liven up? Here's hoping! Mon Jan 12th Just 1 single feeder rod on today on the uniside with some nice Bream and Roach to net. Not too cold and no night rods on at all! Sun Jan 11th A brisk fresh cold wind greeted the eager Pike Match anglers this morning. Ben Rhodes won the match with a lovely 15lb 10oz fish, the biggest of the series so far. Len Stewart took second with 2 fish for 14lb 2oz, nice. 5 fish out in total to 9 rods. No night rods on tonight yet. Sat Jan 10th Wow, high winds blasting down the Broad with white horses! Done most of my rounds today looking up for any widow maker tree limbs crashing down. lol Report of a lost Carp aghh to last night s rod. 2 day Carpers on having a go! No nighters? Fri Jan 9th Lovely and mild, weather forecast the mildest January night in history! No rods on today and no one settling in for the night. Thur Jan 8th Just one day rod on, in pleasant conditions. 3 late afternoon Carpers setting up for the night. Let's hope for a run or two tonight! Wed Jan 7th

8 Cloudy, damp and chilly start, turning milder. No rods on for the night and no Carp to last night s rod? That's 8 weeks since last Carp on the bank. Who's going to be the first to land a long awaited lump! Tue Jan 6th Day Carper in shallows riverside, no shows. Night rod setting up uniside in the narrows. Starting to get a little colder. Saw no shows tonight. Mon Jan 5th A very calm mild day for winter!! Just 1 lone rod on Piking with no pickups! Calm evening with no rods on, so no cups of tea for me lol Sun Jan 4th Remember chaps, next Sunday see's the 3rd in the Pike match series. See you there! The 3 Carpers again, no runs or signs overnight! A hard frost greeted them this morning with bright sunshine. 2 other day Carpers on again, no fish. It is turning into the toughest winter yet for finding the Carp! I'll be doing a 48 hour session, next week. Sat Jan 3rd Wet damp conditions greeted last night's rod, this morning. Only line bites during the night. 2 Pike rods on with some Jacks to net. No Carp showing on my rounds. Evening, no rods on but conditions calm and stopped raining. Fri Jan 2nd Back on duty after Xmas in my home town Brum. Here we go as a new year kicks off. Nice and mild today, no reported Carp on my leave in Brum during the last 10 days, be nice to catch up with our members. Good luck and best wishes for the new year to you all. Weds Jan 31st Cold frosty morning again ice patches forming in deeps and shallows two rods on today no reports of any carp caught over the festive period. Tues Jan 30th Another cold frosty morning with water level rising four rods on to day two on tonight. Mon Jan 29th Cold frosty morning just one rod on last night. Two pikers on today. Sun Dec 28th Lovely calm conditions no rods on. Must all be in church? Let s prey for some carp to come on the feed soon. Sat Dec 27th Heavy rain overnight, with three pikers on today. Just one run, nothing coming to the net. Fri Dec 26th Calm conditions again two pikers on today no fish reported. Thurs Dec 25th Calm conditions, no rods on. All at home having a merry old time? Weds Dec 24th Cold and windy and just one fishing, with roach and small skimmers caught.

9 Tues Dec 23rd Still windy no rods on today. Mon Dec 22nd Wild mild and windy tonight on the Broad, lonely walk round with no one on at all? My last round of 2014, back on my rounds 2nd Jan Peter is covering my rounds while I'm away, thanks mate. Just like to wish all the committee, members and all my UEA mates a happy Christmas and New year. This past year would have been impossible for me to endure without my friends and duties on our Broad. Again, a special thanks to you all, and see you all next year x Sun Dec 21 st A Lovely, mild cloudy morning, ideal conditions for the second Pike match, but no one told Mr Essox that lol!! Only 5 fish came out up to 9lb, with 5 of the 9 rods not having a single run!! But nice day had by all, well done Yibby on clinching top spot. See you all in January for the 3rd Pike Match in the series. Sat Dec 20th Much colder today with just the same 1 Carper on from last night with no shows or runs. He is on it again tonight. Fri Dec 19th No lumps to last night s rod. A little chillier today. Just 2 Carpers on for a Fri night!! Westerly breeze with milder weather forecast for weekend. Thu Dec 18th Mild again with a good westerly chop on. 2 Carpers in the stinks. 1 feeder rod on riverside filling his net with Bream, great sesh Nev, with over 20 by 2pm apx 60/70lb nice. 1 Carper on for night. Wed Dec 17th Lovely old day, temps rising by 10. Just 1 quick sesh Carper on for a few hours in the deeps, no shows. No night rods. Tue Dec 16th Another calm, bright yet fresh day with a winter chill. A Pike rod roaming found 3 to net up to 13lb. Again no Carpers on. Mon Dec 15th A nice morning and not to cold in the bright sunshine. A feeder rod on uniside found a lovely bag of Bream and a whip on the same side bagged some decent Perch. No night Carpers. Sun Dec 14th I'm the only one on again today. I awoke last night, about 3am rods and Bivvy totally frozen! Again not a bleep or show, it's hard finding these Carp at the moment, in my 4+ years as bailiff this has been the worst 2 months for Carp out of our Broad, only 4 fish to nets in 9 weeks!! No night rods on. Sat Dec 13th Cor, that was cold last night -4 deg C outside my Bivvy!!! No runs or shows at all! Another cold night to come! No other rods on. Fri Dec 12th 2 day session Carpers on, with no luck. It's very hard to get a run lately! I turned up late for my 2 nights on, forecast very cold! Set up in mucks and rods in at dark. Thu Dec 11th

10 No afternoon course rods on today. Just 2 Pike rods with 1 rod having 10 runs with 4 Jacks to net off the riverside. No night rods on. Wed Dec 10th No luck again, to the one night rod on? A 17lb+ Pike to dead bait angler on the uniside. Last night s single Carper is on again, tonight. Where are all our hard core Carpers! I will be on again this weekend for a 48 sesh. Tue Dec 9th Cloudy and cold with 2 short session carpers on and a Pike rod. No fish to nets by mid morning. 1 Carp rod on for the night. Mon Dec 8th Sunny and bright with a cold westerly breeze today. Just 1 Pike rod on, a regular the past 8 weeks with 47 pike so far! up to 19lb. 2 Night Carp rods on. Sun Dec 7th A wet start greeted the hardy anglers for the annual Christmas Invitation Match. Wind and showers followed. A good turnout of 13 rods with 10lb + bag of Bream winning it and a Christmas tipple for all. No night rods on. Sat Dec 6th Just a single Pike rod this afternoon with Jacks to net. Nice, sunny and mild. No night rods on. Fri Dec 5th Another cold one but no frosts yet! No rods mid-afternoon and just 1 Carper settling in for the night Again no beasts to the two rods on last night. Thu Dec 4th First bitterly cold day of the winter, cloudy with drizzle. 2 Carpers and a pike rod on, none with any fish to nets. 3 Cormorants on broad looking for lunch! Spotted a Mink working the island. 2 night rods on. Wed Dec 3 rd Not a bleep to last night s Carp rod! Another, cloudy, wet, day with the evening becoming cold. 2 day Carpers on only, today. Stats say this is the warmest year in recorded history! I'm sure the frosts and snow will come. No one on tonight. Tue Dec 2nd Very quiet on the Broad today, cloudy and a drizzle keeping the anglers away. Just 1 night rod setting up. Mon Dec 1st More Bream giving me a restless night again. It's tough going to get a Carp to take at the moment!! Perhaps a few frosts will get those lower layers warmer than the top to get them down and the in deep water to feed! 2 course rods finding silver fish and Bream on the uniside. 4 daytime Carpers on. Sun Nov 30th Bream kept me awake all night but again the elusive Carp still not showing! Told a non permit holder who was Piking to leave! No Carp to other night rods. Had a few more Bream out in the day. Just 2 Carpers on for night. Sat Nov 29th I'm down again for a 48 sesh, weather looking dry lol had Bream before dark. Course rod in deeps netting some decent Perch and several small Pike to dead bait rods. 4 Carpers on for night. Fri Nov 28th

11 Another mild day again with Pike coming to nets up to 16lb+ off riverside to Joey Mackerel. 1 member s son had 4 and was well chuffed. No night rods on as yet, tonight. A calm evening. Thu Nov 27th Lovely mild autumn day on the broad with the Pike still coming to nets. 7 Jacks today to two rods on. Be nice to see a lump show. 3 Carpers on for the night. Wed Nov 26th No afternoon rods on in damp cloudy conditions. Water levels rising to the boards. Not seen any shows on my rounds in calm drizzle, nice and mild though. No night rods on. Planning next 48 for this weekend. Tue Nov 25th Another visit by Jack Frost last night with the 3 night rods waking up to frozen bivies, outside and in!!! 3 rods still on from last night with only Bream to nets. Mon Nov 24 th After torrential rain for 14 hours yesterday! A freezing frost cloud came over the Broad at 3am which made temperatures drop like a stone to leave a frost at sunrise. Mr Sunshine came out and cleared the frost quickly. Only Bream for my night Sesh and no one on this morning when I packed away. Sun Nov 23rd Rain, rain and more, all day! A day stuck in Bivvie for 10 hours arghh! Had a spell of 3 big Bream at 5 pm but all quiet now. Just one other night rod on. Come on Mr Carp. Sat Nov 22nd Showers on and off all day and dry by sunset. First Carp out off a uniside peg in 2 weeks! Just a low double Mirror. I'm on for 2 nights in the deeps, no sign still think they may be in narrows. We need a few frosts for them to go deep, I think! 3 on for the night. Fri Nov 21st Sunny spells but quite chilly and calm. 3 pike rods on today with 5 to nets up to 16lb+ nice. Pity the Carp are not feeding as well, lol. Just 1 Carper on tonight. Thu Nov 20th A lovely calm morning with sunny spells. I took a guest Piking and we roamed the Broad bagging 10 pike between us, best 15 lb. A nice morning. A uni rod was pleased with a bonus Tench of 5lb in a mixed bag. Two other Pike rods found 4 Essox, lovely. No Carpers on. Wed Nov 19th Sunny spells turning cold in the evening. Spotted a Mink working the margins, watch out you ducks! Last night s 2 Carpers had no luck! A pike rod on the deeps peg netted half dozen Essox to 11lb nice. I'll be after the toothy critters in the morning for a short sesh with a guest. No night rods on. Tue Nov 18th Where are the anglers again, very quiet around the broad, yet again. Just 2 regular Carpers on it tonight looking very calm again and not to cold. I'll be on for 48 again on Saturday, always welcome members with a cuppa and a chat. Mon Nov 17th A very wet morning on the Broad. My second night being a washout with 12 hours of rain. Leaving me stuck in the Biv and not working the rods, still very nice out in the elements. Got wet landing several Bream through the night! But not a sign of Carp in 48 hours. Next time, you beasties. 2 course rods on with a few fish to nets on the uniside.

12 Sun Nov 16th Another flat calm day, not ideal. Enjoyed first Carp night under the Bivi and watching the morning dawn is amazing. Cozy and warm with plenty of food and cups of tea, nice. No one with me tonight. Sat Nov 15th A pike rod on early with 3 to net, but only Jake s. Cloudy calm conditions. I saw my first ever night session for two nights Carping. First night saw nothing moving at all. Carp still not moved into deeps yet? 2 other carpers on. Fri Nov 14th Another drizzly start with no rods on in the late afternoon. A flight of Canadian Geese dropped in for a rest. 1 on for the night in deeps. Thu Nov 13th Cloudy and cold with easterly breeze. A Carp rod on riverside lost a fish early on. Just Bream again to last night s rod and only 1 on tonight. Wed Nov 12th Another quiet morning with a couple of Carpers on later in the day. Much cooler conditions with a wind change which is now easterly. Just 1 Carper on for the night. I may start my nights campaign for the beasts soon. Tue Nov 11th Great conditions on the Broad today with a s/easterly blow on. No joy to the 3 rods on last night and a few Bream to a feeder rod today. Thu Nov 6th Lovely sunny but very chilly day on the Broad. Pike rod with a double off uniside and 2 feeder rods with some Bream on the uniside. 3 Egyptian Geese piped in for a rest. Just 1 night rod. Wed Nov 5th Bang! Bonfire night and the usual rain comes down. (lol) Just 3 hard core very wet day Carpers on with just Bream to nets. No night rods.

13 Tue Nov 4th Very cold night frosts on way soon, this may prompt the Carp for a winter feast? A sunny day warming up nicely. Riverside night rod netted a nice mid double. 2 uniside feeder rods with a couple of Bream. Mon Nov 3rd Wet cloudy and colder today with showers on and off. Pike rod with a couple of runs but non to net! Only 1 night rod on again. Sun Nov 2nd A cracking Mirror off the stinks at 20lb+ from a night rod. Cloudy today with winds and cooler weather on the way. Rain showers shrouded the broad later in the day. Amazingly no night rods on. It s very hard on the Carp front at the moment, but I'm sure it will change soon. Sat Nov 1st Another sunny mild day on the Broad, nice. A nice mid double Carp off a snags peg on the riverside, lovely to see a day time fish out and a deeps fish at last. 3 rods on it for the night. Fri Oct 31st Wow hottest ever Oct 31st, crazy weather. Pike rod catching a few in the deeps and a Carper landing a mid double Mirror in the shallows. Only 1 rod on it for the night. Thur Oct 30th Very quiet on today. Warm and muggy, cloud moving in later. Bream only to the night Carpers and a small Pike to a roaming Pike rod to lures. Still fish showing mainly in the shallows? Should be deeps in normal autumn conditions but we are far from that this year lol. 2 on it tonight. Wed Oct 29th Watched several Carp rolling off the Norfolk reeds on the riverside! Still in mid water and not on the pre winter munch up! Plenty of Pike coming out to deadbait tactics on the bottom in the margins. Roach to float rods but of a smaller stamp! Mon Oct 27th Sunny morning summer still hanging in there! A few Bream to feeder and Roach to pole on the uniside. A nice westerly blow and fish showing riverside and shallows. 3 Carpers on it for the night shift. Sun Oct 26th A nice night sesh for Matt Thirtle with 2 in the bag to 18lb+, lovely. Plenty of Bream to a bridge peg method rod. Scott Walker bagged the Bald Patch Common at 30lb+. Another plus 30 in the Broad confirmed. 2 rods on for the night. Sat Oct 25th Riverside producing Carp again with a nice 16lb Mirror off a shallows peg and a stonking 30lb Common off a mid-broad peg, smashing. A pike rod with ledgered sprat found 3 Pike up to 19lb off the deeps mark, lovely day for him got to be a 20+ out this year, hopefully to my rod lol. Thu Oct 23rd A cloudy but mild day with the Pikers starting their winter campaign. A nice mid double to a deeps rod on bottom presented sprat, and another rod with a lure bagged a couple of Jacks. A stinks Carper found a nice Scaled Mirror mid double. 4 Carpers on for the night. Wed Oct 22nd Again Carp not playing ball last night Hmm! Nice calm day today with mild sunny spells. Course float rod riverside with mixed silverfish bag. 3 Carpers on tonight, looking good. Tue Oct 21st No night runs. Storm now moving in with high winds. Incident in a Uni lab with a small fire closed a part of university for the day. I had a short evening Carp session with 9 Bream in 3 hours, 1 was a stonker over 7lb. 2 on for the night. What they doing down there this time of year, still very, very mild? A frost or two will see them migrate to deeper waters and munch up for their winter sulk! Fri Oct 17th 4 Carp out last night, biggest 23lb to a deeps peg with another lost, at last fish moving into the deeps! Another lovely mid double Fully scaled Mirror to a shallows riverside rod and plenty of Bream keeping the Carpers up all night! 6 day rods on it today with several Bream to uniside rods. 4 on it tonight, predict a few more lumps from deeps during next week. Thu Oct 16th Nice to see my report and photos of our historic 40lb'er caught by Mathew Thirtle in the local media yesterday, EDP and Evening News, nice. Cloudy and overcast today. Two small Jack Pike out to a Pike rod off the riverside point to Sprat on the bottom. 15 Another foggy start with the Broad shrouded in dense mist at first light. No runs to the 1 Carper on last night. We were graced with the brief appearance of a pair of Marsh Harriers hovering over the Broad, a wonderful sight. 2 roaming Pike rods on today both finding fish to 17lbs, nice. Just 1 early course rod on the uniside! 2 day Carpers on the stinks. No night rods on yet. Tue Oct 14th A bright sunny morning with a slight westerly breeze. No night runs to the 2 rods on, even though there were fish over their baits! Reports of a 4 fish haul of big Carp to a riverside rod last week including Psycho, Bald Patch and the Goldfish Common. Wow! Watched a Crow and a raptor, a Sparrow hawk (I think) having a domestic in an aerial dogfight. Also noticed a group of Black headed Gulls fighting over what looked like a baby dead rodent of some kind, Hmm? Mon Oct 13th Damp wet morning on the Broad with outbreaks of showers keeping the anglers away! 2 Carpers on with no luck or signs! Just two late afternoon Carpers settling in for the night, as per usual 1 hour before sunset the beasts start showing. I saw what I think was the same Carp rise twice on a spot on uniside, a good high 20 possibly a 30lb Mirror. Smashing, I love watching as much as catching. Sun Oct 12th Dense fog greeted the night rods this morning, showing the water temps are still higher than the air! Bright sunshine broke through. No runs overnight again. Fish must be laying up and not munching at the moment. Two backboard course rods finding some good sport. Not a lot moving, but I saw a pod of Bream stirring the bottom off a riverside peg and surprisingly for this late in the year a Grass Snake weaving across the Broad! 2 late rods on. Sat Oct 11th Deeps course rod netting plenty to pole with a good stamp of Perch. No night lumps to the bivvy tramps lol. Plenty of shows mid Broad. 5 critter hunters on tonight, witnessed a heck of a storm that just skirted the Broad, nature gave us a wonderful show with a lightning backed by accompanying bass thunder, lovely. Fri Oct Thu Oct 9th Des bagged his first Carp of the year off a uniside peg. Well in mate, nice mid double Mirror. Another uniside rod bagged another mid double Mirror. 4 Carpers on hunting the night beasts. Wed Oct 8th Feeder rod in shallows found some early Bream to corn. Night rods with Bream to nets. Broad is starting to put on its winter dress with the golden hues of autumn leaves, lovely. I had another short session for Carp and got off the mark with 2 mid double Mirrors plus lost one while I was playing another! As bailiff was under a little pressure to find fish within in my predicted 48 hour target. I did it in 22 hours my 6th short session, chuffed lol, now a big un next. 2 rods on for night. Tue Oct 7th New South, South westerly blow started, wet and drying out late on. Bream again to the night rods. Plenty of Carp showing on the back of the new wind! So don't always follow the crowd and so called experts to the front! My 5th 2 hour session in my Carp quest resulted in, yes Bream again lol. 4 rods on tonight should see a lump out. Mon Oct 6th Damp and cloudy day with rain showers constant. Not many people about today. A couple of roaming Carpers looking for signs! A new easterly breeze and colder conditions. Just 1 late rod on settling in for the night. Sun Oct 5th A very cold and foggy start to the morning with overnight rain The day settling into bright sunshine again and a flat calm. First Pike rod on this morning working the deeps. Matt Thirtle bagged two overnight Carp at 24lb and a 16lb Mirrors off uniside. Well done mate and with other rods finding it hard going! Another evening Carp rod bagged 2 mid doubles off the muck swim. That rain downpour got them going. 1 on for the night.

16 Sat Oct 4th The cooler weather front as forecast is coming in. Cloudy and breezy today with no runs to the 3 on during last night. Just 3 Carpers on this morning in fresh condition. They should get their heads down and start feeding as it s been a little quiet lately on the Carp front. 2 Carpers on for the nightshift. Fri Oct 3rd Again, another dead calm warm day, plenty of silverfish to float rod in deeps and the odd Bream. No lumps on the Carp front! They don't seem to be on it at the moment in this unusual October warm weather. 3 on for the night. Thu Oct 2nd Another bright calm day on the Broad and very quiet with only 2 uniside course rods and 1 night rod with a mid double Carp during the night. UEA Estates have cleared trees on the shore to install a bench with a view between pegs 29 and 30 Mmm!! Just one evening rod on and one for the night. Wed Oct 1st Wow summer has flown by but we can't complain, its been a nice one and its October already! A uniside rod had a good bend in his pole Mmmm probably another Pike attack! Plenty of fish to another feeder rod on today. A nice start for a riverside Carper with a mid double fully scaled Mirror. Just one rod on during the late afternoon for the night session. Tue Sept 30th No Carp to night rods but plenty of Bream again! A deeps float rod was bagging Bream over a dozen to pellet slider method. Saw some lovely big Carp nosing around in Norfolk riverside reed beds, nice. Just 1 lone Carper on for night in the deeps peg. Plenty of Bream to last night Carp rods. A quiet day on the Broad with 4 rods setting up for the night. Wed Sept 24th A wet and windy morning, with a good west blow on. Uniside feeder hooked into a mid double Pike! A uniside Carper netted 2 mid double Carp and the same for a uniside night rod. Biggest was 18lb Mirror. With this weather front moving in more Carp to nets expected, it is looking good!

17 Tue Sept 23rd Cloudy with sunny spells and a nice westerly again. Carp seem to be on the munch. A riverside rod bagged the Linear at 32lb+ cracking Dean. Another uniside rod lost a big un in the night! Evening saw a lot of Carp topping and going down in mid broad, 3 on it for night. Mon Sept 22nd Overcast day with an afternoon chill in the air. No Carp to last night s rods, but plenty starting to show in the west end shallows late on. Students now back on campus and busy settling in. Riverside course rod into some lovely Bream to feeder tactics. A stinks float rid bagging up with Bream to paste close in, and a surprise mid double Pike! 4 Carpers on for the night. Sun Sept 21st Cloudy with a colder breeze this morning. Pole rods on uniside into a Roach a chuck and the odd Bream. A mid double Carp to a uni-side night rod. I had a 3 hour dabble for Carp with 7 good size Bream for my efforts, that's over 40 Bream in 5 short session. It ll soon be a Carp or 2 for me. 4 riverside rods on for the night. Sat Sept 20th Intake day at the uni, so very busy on campus today! A much cooler day today with a good cloud cover and Nor westerly breeze. Wed Sept 17th Another calm day with sunny spells. A new permit holder bagged a small Carp on his first session off the stinks and 3 others found Bream. Those big toothless critters are a little elusive at the moment but their pre winter munch will start soon and grouping to deeper waters in a few weeks! 4 Carpers on for the night. Tue Sept 16th Riverside early morning Carper found 2 mid double 1 Mirror and 1 Common, nice. Bream to other Carp rod. 4 rods roaming and stalking trying to find the elusive beasts that are hiding or in mid water in these warm calm bright conditions! Mon Sept 15th Wet start on the Broad with plenty of Carp showing in the shallows early on. Weather dry later and calm again. Just 2 rods on mid afternoon stalking the beasts. 2 night rods on tonight. Still all looking a little calm a bright, not best conditions at all. Sun Sep 14th Neville Thompson was delighted with a midnight ripping run and a 39+ Common in the bag. Spent 20 minutes watching a Kestrel hunting for his supper in the uni-side meadow. 18 A cloudy start and fresh winds building with an easterly weather front moving in. Just Tench and Bream to the night Carp rods. Des netted the stunning small Goldfish off the riverside. Bob Westgate bagged one of the biggest ever Fully-scaled Mirrors out mid day on the uniside at 22lb 8oz. Well done chaps. 2 on it for the night. Fri Sept 12th Sunny morning with a nice easterly breeze. A couple of lost Carp 'hook pulls' to last night s 2 rods. A large brown pollen bloom on the water in the deeps, I think its willow pollen! A float rod on a deeps uni peg finding some quality Perch close in. 2 other feeder rods on for the Bream. Thurs Sept 11th A cloudy cooler day, with plenty of Bream to nets. Backboard Carper had plenty but no Carp thou lol. John Ford had his best few morning hours on a uniside peg yesterday with over a dozen slabs, nice one mate. Fish fizzing all over the west end bowl. 3 Carpers on for the night. Wed Sept 10th Fish survey today on our Broad with the EA Fisheries Department. 8 hours looking into a screen and guiding the chaps from EA to the hot spots. Not surprised to see masses of Bream and groups of big Carp on the marks. Amazing to see shoals of silver fish go into a baitball doughnut every time a Pike came close, Wow! A few chairs and even a 3to 4foot Eel. A more detailed survey in winter scheduled when fish group up tighter. Data of this survey will be published shortly on this site. Sunny west breeze livening the Broad up, but still muggy conditions. 3 rods on for the night shift. Sun Sept 7th Sunny again with a little breeze westerly. Bob landed a nice Mirror uni-side during the afternoon and Matt found a 17lb on the riverside. I had a couple of evening hours in the deeps looking for the lumps with only Bream? Ryan took 2 overnight to 17 lbs, lovely. 3 on for the night. Report of thrashing fish by the island, will go for a look tomorrow? Sat Sept 6th Again a calm broad today but a little cloud cover with Carp not giving themselves away and very few signs, though 2 mid double Mirrors came to rods in the shallows. Bream still being produced in good numbers. Only a couple of rods on late. Fri Sept 5th Another low lull in the weather very calm and muggy. Plenty of Bream to shallows rod including the usual Pike take lol. I put a feeder rod on some nice Bream off the backboards. No fish showing. 5 on for the night. Moved two young lads off lol ( no permits ) showed them a free spot on the river to fish. 1 day Carper on with an early nice mid double Mirror off a riverside mid-broad peg. No rods yet for the night session. Mon Aug 25th Rain, showers and cloudy conditions all day. A nice double Mirror to a uniside rod earlier. 2 rods still on from the night session with just Bream for their efforts. Though plenty of shows in the new easterly breeze. No course rods braving the showers today. Otter seen first thing and then moved into river. Sun Aug 24th A sunny morning with 7 rods on. 2 mid double Mirrors out with evening seeing 7 on again with Gavin Sillett netting a nice upper double Mirror off a riverside shallow peg. Nice. Calm evening with a few lumps showing, starting to get a little chilly. Hmmm soon be Christmas lol.
