How ev er, when the dual in no va tions of higher intensity electric street lights and the automobile became prev a lent dur ing the first half of the 20th Century, there was a need to place street luminaires at higher mount ing heights. This necessitated taller poles, which could not eco nom i cal ly be fabricated using only cast iron tech nol o gy.
