2 Frank s Message Hi All!!! Well it looks like snow will be flying soon and I know the this will not stop a lot of you. There is still a lot of open fields and beaches out there. Lot of interesting finds coming in, keep it up! Please! if you are interested in putting in a little message E-Me or the Club and we ll enter it here. I will be in Cuba last week of the month so if you have anything to put in the newsletter get it to me ASAP And I try to have the news letter in for you for November. Last meeting minutes The President Phil Szucs began the meeting with 20 members present including the executive. Kathy read the minutes and all members were in favour to print them as read. SAUBLE BEACH HUNT: Fred C. got one silver ring coming back in Grand Bend and found just shy of 9 dollars at Sauble Beach. Not much was found but everyone enjoyed the companionship. PORT STANLEY CLUB: Four members from this club attended. It was a really good hunt with 4 hunts. Phil walked away with lots of silver dimes and loonies. Art got a gold ring and loads of coins. The hunts were done at 11:45 a.m. The weather cooperated and held off until after the hunts. LIGHT HOUSE COVE: Vince and Dennis helped a lady look for her Grandmother s ring. They took a dingy out to the water but unfortunately didn t find the ring. The woman drew a picture of the ring and it is published in the newsletter if anyone was to look for it and find it to return it to her as it has great sentimental value. She wrote a nice thank you letter in the newsletter. INSURANCE: Frank mentioned to his new insurance agent about our club and the insurance company will phone us to help look for people s lost rings. There is a 10% reward for found items. A lot of insurance brokers don t know we are here so we should inform them of our services. SATURDAY FUN HUNT: 15 members look to be attending. Phil showed the members the items for the hunt. First hunt is called the FUN HUNT with tokens, U.S. nickels and pennies. The pennies have playing cards and you have to look for the best poker hand. One nickel is a stretch nickel which can be redeemed for a special prize. The second hunt is the RING HUNT. There are 42 silver rings, 2 silver dollars, and 30 silver dimes and tokens. The tokens are different this year, they are in a mini zip lock back with a ticket and number and the matching number will be attached to the prize. The third hunt is called the CASH HUNT with 40 silver dollars 500 dimes and tokens. During all three hunts there are 10 gold plated dimes labelled through 10 and these can be redeemed for prizes. Pizza will be served. The hunt begins at 9:00 a.m. Phil was thinking about renting a magnetic bar to pull across the sand to pick up some junk. People were asked to bring rakes to mix up the sand a bit. Vince asked to move the hunt closer to the water as there is less junk there. Kids hunt is planned. 6 kids are planning to attend. Vince will bring flags for the hunt. The hunts should be done around 2:00p.m. Everyone can bring a dessert if they d like. GRAND BEND: Robert Robertson went hunting and was approached about a lost ring. Robert helped look for it and found it for the man. Great job Rob! 50/50 DRAW: Brought in $73.00 and the winner receives $ Robert Szucs won the money. FINDS OF THE MONTH: Phil and Frank talked about the categories. Frank defined each category. Only one item in each category and names MUST be on the back of the sheet. Majority voted on the four categories according to Frank s paper. All members voted and majority voted to have four categories Coins, Jewelry, Relic, and Misc. MYSTERY DRAW: Won by Robert Robertson. Next month: bring in cutlery that you found. Next month: Nominations. LOGOS: two entries, one from Art and two from Joanne. If you have some please give them to Phil next month. The meeting was adjourned. Page 2

3 Adam wanted to thank Mr. Shepley for lending his machine during the kids hunt and helping him find treasure. It meant a lot to him and he was certainly excited that he was able to find treasure. If you look at the picture, I'm not sure who was having more fun, the child participant, the adult participant or the onlookers. Thank you again for making his day special. 6 Interesting & Fun Stuff! Bird Bands Dave s Stuff It will be a partners hunt, Phil. He s going to do the digging! Dave s Stuff The banding of migratory birds with light weight numbered bands goes to the 1800 s. The original idea was to record the location and number where the bird was banded then wait until a hunter or birder found and reported it s location. This allowed the bander to trace the migration rout of that bird. With enough bands being returned the routs of most migrating birds in the United States and Canada was established. #1 GOOSE BAND # 2-4 PIDGEON BANDS # 5 SMALL BIRDS Call band Write Bird Band Laurel Md USA USA 72 FCC 975 AU 36 BFC 657 #6 DUCK BAND Advise F & Wildlife Service Write WASHINGTON D.C.
