Easy cycling tour on nearly flat or gently rolling terrain from the azure Mediterranean Sea into the green Catalonian countryside, dotted with Medieval villages. Pedal back into history as you cross fields of sunflowers and wheat, forests of pines and even rice fields in this ancient land once inhabited by Iberians in pre-roman times and formerly besieged by pirates. Enjoy a hearty Catalan breakfast to start each day and, in the evening, choose among wonderful local restaurants which serve a variety of traditional specialities made from regional produce, fish and seafood. Relax at three splendid rural accommodations, comfortable hotels with their own unique charm. Route Day 1 Arrival in Corça Arrival at your accommodation in the village of Corçà. A taxi transfer from the airport or train station can be arranged. Challenge: Travel to the Ampurdán. Villages along the way: Corçà

2 Day 2 Circular route from Corçà (17-31 km) Immerse yourself in the ambience of the Baix Empordà, or Lower Ampurdán, cycling through its traditional and picturesque landscape. Small vegetable gardens, Mediterranean woods, the Medieval village centres of Monells and Madremanya, and an interesting optional visit to the castle-museum in Pubol which Dalí dedicated to his wife, Gala. Challenge: km, 200/300 m ascent/descent. Villages along the way: Monells, Madremanya, Pubol Day 3 From Corça to Peratallada (24 km) A short climb through the woods, then on to flat terrain, surrounded by Tuscany-like villages situated atop natural mounds. This vast and fertile agricultural region was worked long ago by the Iberians, who introduced the now characteristic cypress tree as a wind-panel. In the evening, you'll have the challenge of selecting one of Peratallada's 13 inviting restaurants for dinner. Challenge: 24 km, 150 m ascent, 175 m descent. Villages along the way: Ullastret, Peratallada Day 4 Out to the Costa Brava (40 km) Quiet country lanes lead you through the pretty regional capital of Pals, and on to Palafrugell, Llafranca and Calella de Palafrugell, one of the most beautiful fishing villages along this coast. Optional break to enjoy a very nice lunch at a restaurant on the beach. Other possibilities include a visit to the lovely botanical gardens in Cap Roig or an adventure future south through the valley of Aubi. In any case, it's a day to fill the senses! Challenge: 40 km, 150 m ascent/descent. Villages along the way: Pals, Palafrugell, Llafranca, Calella Day 5 The Ter River delta (40,5 km) Cycle placidly between the sandy beaches of the Costa Brava and the green rice fields of the delta, passing an occasional windmill along the way. Or, should you prefer to relax today, the village of Peratallada is a lovely spot for a rest day, with the chance to take a short stroll through the nearby Mediterranean woods. Challenge: 40,5 km, 150 m ascent/descent. Villages along the way: Río Ter Day 6 From Peratallada to Sant Pere Pescador (38 km) Northwards into the region of Alt Empordà, through mixed forests, open rural landscapes and endless orchards. Optional stop to admire Greek and Roman ruins at the Empuries archaeological site. Then, take a break and stroll along Medieval lanes in Torroella de Montgrí. In the afternoon, arrival at your charming hotel in the village of Sant Pere. Challenge: 38 km, 200 m ascent, 220 m descent. Villages along the way: Empuries, Torroella de Montgri Day 7 To Figueres and Aiguamolls Natural Park (37-53 km) On to Figueres, the village whose name is synonymous with that of Salvador Dalí. Visit the surrealist painter's museum, take a pleasant stroll along the town Rambla and admire the beautiful Augustine monastery just outside town. Then follow the Muga River to the medieval town of Castello d'empuries. Later you are welcomed by the refreshing greenery of Aiguamolls de l'emporda Natural Park, whose wetlands are home to a significant seasonal waterbird colony. Challenge: km, 125/225 m ascent/descent. Villages along the way: Figueres, Castello d'empuries Day 8 End of arrangement Your arrangement ends today after breakfast. Transport to the Flaça train station included. An optional taxi transfer to the airport may also be booked. Challenge: Departure from Sant Pere Pescador

If a certain hotel is unable to confirm due to lack of availability, we will request a similar one and inform you about the alternative booked. Extra nights: Extra nights can be booked at any of the accommodations along the way. Casa Matilda (Corça) The 15th century stone builiding that hosts this nice rural hotel, has been completely restored preserving the original charm of the traditional architecture and adding modern style and many details in each of the rooms. Hotel El Cau del Papibou (Peratallada) Chraming hotel, completely renovated, located in a 12th century building. The decoration is quite unique, with modern and customised rooms that offer all the amenities a guest may want. Can Ceret (Sant Pere Pescador) This beautiful and remarkable 18th century building in Sant Pere Pescador has been restored to offer the visitor a unique hotel. A relaxing stay in an accommodation in which all details have been taken care of to make you feel at home. Practical info NOTE: There is a similar trip available with lodging in friendly rural guesthouses, especially indicated for families with (small) children. Please look at our family trips in Spain. You can start on any day of the week, subject to availability, between March 1st and October 25th. The best airports of arrival are Girona (GRO) and Barcelona (BCN), which are served by several low cost carriers.

4 Arrival in Corçà: From the airports of Girona (GRO) and Barcelona (BCN) you can continue by train to the village of Flaça, only 15km away from first accommodation. Departure from Sant Pere Pescador: At the end of your trip, you can take the train back to Girona or Barcelona from Figueras. Transfers from Flaça train station to your first accommodation and from the last accommodation to Figueras train station are incluced in the trip price. Optional transfers: A private taxi transfer can be booked from Girona to either Girona airport or Barcelona airport. Rates will depend on the number of passengers, your arrival time and the day of the week. Prices on request (*) In Spain bicycles can only be transported on regional trains.
