2 OFFICIALS GENERAL INFORMATION Admission: The enclosed vehicle pass must be displayed in a visible position at all times. Admission will be refused to any vehicle which does not comply. Any vehicle parked in a circuit car park not displaying a vehicle pass will automatically be towed away. You will receive one numbered Officials Wristband (covering all 3 days) in place of an admission ticket. This is your only means of admission to the circuit throughout the three days of the meeting. Any Officials identification (ie. tabard) which will be issued to you at signing-on, does not grant access to the circuit. You will receive 3 numbered Guest Wristbands (one for each day). These are for the use of your personal guest only. If your complimentary guest wristbands are misused by any person it may cause their removal from the meeting and prejudice your future selection. If your guest is not arriving until the weekend, please be aware that any vehicle parked without the correct pass may be issued with a fixed penalty notice. Gates will remain closed until hours on Grand Prix day and no one will be allowed access until they are opened. Anyone found inside the spectator areas before this time will be deemed to have gained access illegally and will be required to leave and their pass for the day will be forfeited. Behaviour: All officials are reminded that only personnel with the appropriate accreditation are permitted access to certain areas (specifically, but not limited to: the F1 paddock, pit and startline areas) for the DURATION OF THE EVENT. Any attempt to gain access to a restricted area either by them or their guest will be viewed as gross misconduct, resulting in the official being removed from duty with no future invitations to marshal at the British Grand Prix. Please also note that any abuse, either verbal or physical, by an official to another official, security officer or member of the public will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the circuit and future invitations to marshal withheld. General: Read your specific instructions, and if in doubt at any time - ASK. You should provide: adequate clothing for protection against rain and sun. waterproof protection for personal effects. stand-by rations including adequate drinks for all conditions. Every effort will be made to ensure your well being, but be prepared for a long day. Some posts will operate a shift system with a maximum and minimum manning figure which will provide additional stand down time. It is mandatory for you to take a rest period when instructed by the Post Chief or Official in charge. Be alert and ready for action at all times. Do not drink alcohol before or whilst on duty. Ear plugs will be provided to all marshals and must be worn during Formula One track activity. If witness to any incident, check with your Chief before leaving your post. Do not turn your back on the circuit and keep behind the protective barriers. Do not congregate in groups. Do not wear any bright clothing that could be confused with flag signals. Officials must not take photographs or seek autographs whilst wearing their official identification. Be courteous at all times. You will be given a Grand Prix date bar (and a badge if a first time official). Do not touch any of the FOM equipment located around the circuit. If problems are encountered, however small, report them to Race Control. FOM personnel are available at all times to advise and assist with these problems. Do not allow the personal use of mobile phones to conflict with the performance of your duties. Fireworks are not permitted on the campsite in the interests of safety. All mobile catering units serving hot food around the circuit have standpipes and have been asked to allow marshals to refill any bottles. All officials and guests must use the designated crossing point for access and egress from/to the officials campsite/car park. It is therefore imperative you follow the advice and guidance from the stewarding and security personnel located in this area. A rope and barrier system will be in operation to ensure the safety of all officials and their guests, this will also allow the traffic operation to be undisturbed. Please be patient some waiting time will be inevitable as you are crossing the main route into the Northern car parks. The marshals prize draw will be held once again at the event. All volunteer officials will be automatically entered and the prize is a trip for two to a 2013 Grand Prix in Europe (terms and conditions apply). Each marshal will receive a commemorative cap, kindly provided by Silverstone Circuits Ltd, which should be worn in preference to other branded caps. Officials Car Park and Camp Site: Please read the access instructions carefully. On arrival, if your vehicle pass indicates a camping site location (row and plot number), report to the Camping Control Office. The campsite will be open from hours on Monday 2nd July until hours on Monday 9th July. In order to reduce damage to the campsite, vehicle movement must be kept to a minimum. A 10mph speed limit will apply. There are very few spare campsite plots this year, as more marshals are attending. Please only use the plot allocated to you unless authorised by Campsite Control. If you are intending to arrive early in the week to place your tent/caravan, and then leave to return later in the week, please leave your contact telephone number at Campsite Control. They will then be able to contact you if there is a problem while you are absent from the site. 2

3 The Camping Control Office will be open 24 hours a day throughout the meeting. In the event of an emergency or difficulty, officials, their families and friends may use this facility to make contact. Any concerns relating to the campsite facilities can be logged with this office and dealt with by Silverstone Circuits Ltd appropriately. If your guest is intending to stay with you on the campsite they must be accommodated within your designated plot. For security reasons no one will be admitted to the marshals campsite without either a marshals wristband, a marshals guest wristband for that day, or a campsite wristband. If you have guests staying with you who purchased tickets you will need to collect a campsite only wristband for them at sign on. This campsite wristband does NOT grant access to the circuit. Communication: Should it be necessary for us to contact you with any relevant event information immediately prior to or during the week of the Grand Prix, this may be by text message. Marshals should also check our website for any updates ( Shop Facilities: There will be a shop in the campsite. Opening times and products available are shown on a separate sheet. The Paddock Cafe will be open to officials for food although it will not be a public facility. Please be prepared to show your wristband for access. Opening times are as follows:- Friday 6th July Saturday 7th July Sunday 8th July * There are no parking facilities at or near to the Paddock Cafe; Officials should either walk or cycle. In some instances this will mean some walking, but this has been kept to a minimum. The shuttle service will only continue for as long as time allows before the track is closed for practice or racing. ONLY Officials are permitted to use the bus service. An Official will be in charge to help and deal with any queries that may arise. At the end of each day, a return service to the Camp Site will operate from the same scheduled stops. A Mini-Bus will be stationed at Gate 5 (from hrs) as a service for Paddock Marshals, Medical staff and any personnel who are stationed within the S/R Race Administration Area/Race Control Areas or the new Wing facility. Just prior to this entrance you will see a route sign reading Marshals Camp Site as confirmation that you are at the right entrance. The camp site gate will be at the top of Winterhills. Because of one way systems, access will only be available from the Northampton direction on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Access and Egress to Campsite It will not be possible to enter or exit the camp site contrary to the traffic flow on Winterhills. Thus, during the morning entry phase (AM) there is no exit from the camp site and during the afternoon exit phase (PM) there is no entry to the camp site. Thursday Access (No Access or Egress restrictions) From either direction off the A43: 1. From M1 Northampton, at Towcester, take the A413 (Whittlebury) exit and follow road signs for Silverstone village. 2. On the A5 from Milton Keynes: On approaching Towcester, follow signs to Silverstone and Car Parks. Be prepared for an important division of traffic at the junction with the A43/A413. The traffic is split between Coaches, Centre etc and Car Parks. It is most important that you do NOT follow the Coaches, Centre route as this will take you on the bypass with no access to Winterhills. 3. From M40 Brackley on A43: If you are approaching from the Western side of the circuit you should keep on the Northbound carriageway of the A43 (signed for Centre and Coaches ) where the traffic is divided at the junction with the B4525. On approaching the Silverstone exit keep over to the right hand lane (signed for Through Traffic) and continue on the A43 to the MacDonald s roundabout at Towcester. Drive around the roundabout and travel back towards Silverstone on the A43, take the A413 off slip (Whittlebury) exit and follow road signs for Silverstone Village noting instructions at (1) above NOT to follow the Coaches & Centre route from this point. NB - Do not attempt to access through Silverstone village from Abthorpe crossroads as this is not an official route and will not be given priority. Friday, Saturday and Sunday Exiting (PM) After the event exiting will be via Winterhills down to the A413 in Silverstone Village. All traffic must turn right towards Towcester. Westbound traffic should follow the A413 to the A43 junction where it should continue to the right on the A413 to Buckingham and route via the A422 westbound.
