Watching movies and TV, music, dancing, and visiting with friends. It has helped me be more confident in myself. Ardmore Severo Cruz Age: 18 Athletics/Track & Field Years involved: 2 1
2 Camargo Ben Salisbury Age: 25 Durant Bocce Years involved: 17 Ben loves running his dozer like his Dad. He loves his dogs and donkeys. Special Olympics has opened up the world to Ben. Living in NW (rural) Oklahoma, he has enjoyed meeting people from around the state. It also helped him to be more independent. Going to US National Games has made Ben feel very important and Special. He is so looking forward to the trip! Johnlouis Ashby Age: 19 Years involved: 4 Orschelns Sales Rep. Accomplishments: Head of an Equestrian camp and head of department at Orschelns Metal work, horseback riding and auto mechanics. Learned that everybody is Special in their own way. Ricky Barnes Age: 28 Durant Stockyards Accomplishments: Graduating from high school and finishing first in basketball Wrestling, football, and all sports on TV, bingo I ve always wanted to play sports and Special Olympics has given me that chance. I can t wait to play ball in Iowa. 2
3 Durant (cont.) Ronnie Bledsoe Age: 19 Years involved: 9 Accomplishments: Graduation from High School, receiving drivers license Working on cars, sports and girls I have made a lot of friends. I was shy, but now I am outgoing. I get to play basketball and volleyball on a team. Michael Ham Age: 16 Years involved: 4 Accomplishments: Getting to play on the gold medal basketball team Fishing Getting to play sports and making friends. Going to US National Games will be a lot of fun getting to go somewhere and play on the basketball team against teams from other states. Dixie Hobbs Age: 19 Years involved: 1 It has given me the chance to play sports and meet new people. I have gotten to go places where I would never go, such as Norman and Stillwater for the Special Olympics Oklahoma Winter and Summer Games. Matthew Palmer Age: 23 Years involved: 8 Accomplishments: Matthew was in speech and his teacher couldn t get him to talk. His mother suggested that the teacher talk about basketball. So, she got a book about basketball, and he hasn t stopped talking since. Hunting, watching sports on TV. Special Olympics lets me play basketball even after I graduated high school. 3

Going to US National Games is an opportunity of a lifetime. Krista Jones Age: 15 Years involved: 3 Accomplishments: Outstanding Achievement award in Band Softball, working with elderly, singing Enjoys competing against and helping other athletes. I love it. Jamie Kelsay Age: 24 Years involved: 12 Durant Stockyard Accomplishments: Graduating from high school. I have medaled in most of my events at state competitions. Volleyball, shotput, football, wrestling, bingo. Joseph Kelsay Age: 21 Years involved: 6 Chocktaw Casino Catering Accomplishment: Getting to play basketball, winning medals at state competitions, getting drivers license, getting a job, and finishing school. Wrestling, football, girls Let me have the chance to play sports and make a lot of friends. 4

6 Edmond Greg Ashworth Age: 50 Aquatics (swimming) Years involved: 37 Employers: The Meadows Worker Accomplishments: World Games Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, 1996 Athlete of the Year, International Special Olympics Winter Games in Chris Paynter Age: 31 Powerlifting Previous World Games: 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003 Years involved: 23 The Meadows Document Destruction Accomplishments: Powerlifting I have won 13 medals in World Competition. I broke the American record in the benchpress. Sports, singing in choir, and dancing I have made so many life-long friends by being involved in Special Olympics. I have reached goals I never thought were possible. Nikki Sneed Age: 30 Aquatics (swimming) Previous World Games: 1995, 1999, 2001 Years involved: 22 Edmond Public Schools Bus Monitor Accomplishments: Special Olympics Oklahoma Global Messenger. Music, volunteering for Special Olympics, working out and word finds. It has allowed me to participate in sports that I would not have been able to compete in and travel and meet new people across the world. It has helped me develop social skills and speaking skills. Thank you to Special Olympics for all they have done and continue to do for me and all the other athletes. 6
7 Enid Antwon Brown Age: 19 Years involved: 8 Enid High School Custodian It has given me confidence and fun. This is an opportunity to travel out of Oklahoma and spend a lot of time with my friends. Michael Cotton Age: 17 Years involved: 15 Accomplishments: Michael has played on the Enid High School Football Team and run track on the High School Track Team. Attends Connors College. I have made new friends and increased my confidence. Motivated me to achieve other things and to speak in front of an audience. Robert Clark Age: 19 This is a chance to travel out of Oklahoma and become better friends with my teammates. Years involved: 6 Accomplishments: Athlete of the year for Enid High School. Sports and helping athletes with significant disabilities. How has Special Olympics changes your life: It helps me to be more active. McNail Lawson Age: 19 Years Involved: 9 Jumbo Foods Sacker Sports and girls I ve made new friends, increased athletic ability and increased self-esteem. This is a great chance to travel with a lot of fun people. 7

TV and my computer It helped my outgoing personality and self-esteem. I love my Coach, Coach Benham, and all of the people who do so much for Special Olympics. Tim Dubois Age: 20 Athletics/Track & Field Bradford Village Nursing Home Dietary Aid Accomplishments: 2005 Special Olympics Oklahoma Athlete of the Year Football and everything about it, Music It let me meet lots of people and helped my self-esteem. I have got to go to fun places. It means a lot to me because every time I go to Special Olympics I feel like I help lead the team to gold. Special Note: Tim was selected to be one of only 4 athletes out of 4,000 to be featured during the US National Games Opening Ceremonies. Film crews came to Guthrie in May 2006 to film Tim, his coaches, teachers, family members, and friends for a 4-6 minute vignette to be played on the big screen during Opening Ceremonies. Laura Benham TRACK AND FIELD COACH Holdenville Jordan House Age: 21 Athletics/Track & Field Wal-Mart Greeter Accomplishments: 35 Special Olympics gold medals. Weightlifting, movie collecting, video games How has Special Olympics changed my life: Given me friendship, independence and taught me sportsmanship. Attending National Games is a lifelong dream come true. 11

Steve will partner with Taneka Miller, Special Olympics Oklahoma Athlete, at the 2006 USA National Games. Steve is Taneka s coach and they will team in alternateshot competition at the Games. Kevin Maples Age: 47 Golf Previous World Games: 1999, 2003 Years Involved: 33 Dillards Housekeeping Accomplishments: 1999 World Games in Golf, 5th place 2003 World Games in Bowling Bowling and Golf Special Olympics has been a part of my life in Texas and Oklahoma. My parents, the late J.D. and Mercedes worked in Texas Special Olympics and Oklahoma Special Olympics for all of these years.
