Lutz, 5th year Look back: BD was 2-3 before winning six straight games and a District championship last year. Leighton Merritt gained 1,810 yards rushing and Josh Reau was an All- State linebacker. Look ahead: The Patriots are heavy with skilled players and seniors. Cody Meinert takes over at quarterback. He has a full back mentality in a quarterback body, Lutz said. Merritt will play all over the place and Lutz said the Patriot coaching staff will be looking for creative ways to get him the ball and get carries for Brandt Swindeman. Other players to watch: Derek Vandermark (OL, DL), Tristan Pizana (WR), Quest Gonzalez (TE/LB). Coach says: I think we are a better football team, Lutz said. It started in the off-season. 5 CLINTON MADISON CLINTON Preview 2013 SEASON OUTLOOK 2013 CLINTON ROSTER CLINTON 2012: 9-1, 7-0, TCC champions Coach: Scott McNitt, 7th year (in TCC) Look back: Clinton went undefeated during the regular season, sweeping through the TCC for its third league title in six years. Look ahead: Simply put, the Redskins are loaded. They return skilled players like QB T.J. Baker, leading rusher Collin Poore (893 rushing yards) and leading receiver Matthew Sexton (367 yards). Our skilled group of kids are highly talented, experienced and have very good speed, McNitt said. Look ahead: Coach Wallace is in his second year at Madison and brings his Pistol Offense to the Trojans. We had a great off-season, he said. Our expectation is to get better every week. Nolan Anschuetz takes over at quarterback. He worked hard in the off-season and is ready, Wallace said. 8 MORENCI SAND CREEK MORENCI Preview 2013 SEASON OUTLOOK 2013 MORENCI ROSTER MORENCI 2012: 3-6, 1-6 Coach: Mike McDowell, 3rd year (1997, 2012) Look back: The Bulldogs had a great start to the season, including an early season win over Hudson. Injuries, however, caused some late-season woes. Look ahead: Torin Merillat and Austin Sandusky are a formidable duo in the Bulldog backfield. The sophomore lineman that started last year has a year under their belts and in the weight room. McDowell said the team has some quality backs and are things are progressing. Our interior linemen are now juniors, he said. We ve stepped it up a little up front. Our goal is to be back among the top half of the league. Other players to watch: Daiton Lemmon, Alexander Thomas, Hunter Borton. Coach says: It s all about execution, McDowell said. I think this is a capable group. We re not too far back. Look ahead: We re cautiously optimistic that we re going to be able to improve on our performance last year, Ayers said. Sophomore Trenden Peacock is the new quarterback. Our kids respect him. He looked very good in our scrimmage. He reads the zone well. He throws the ball well and takes care of it. He s an outstanding student in the classroom and student of football. Charlie Robertson, Trevor McDormett and Kyle Judkins will rotate among two running back slots. Kyle Keller is the tight end and outside linebacker. Other players to watch: Kyle Evans, Roger Fox, DaShawn Dukes, Kyle Lakatos, Ben Woods and Kyle Judkins. Coach says: We need to play well early and pick up some wins, Ayers said. Look ahead: Pennycuff comes to Whitmore Lake after coaching at Novi. I have quite a bit different approach and philosophy than Barry had and the kids are learning, he said. We re going to have to proceed a little slower than I would have liked, but I d rather do one or two things very well than a lot of things not very well.
