Paraclete opens the season with a #1 preseason ranking in the CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division poll. PHS begins its third season of gridiron action under head coach Norm Dahlia. Dahlia has guided his Paraclete squads to 17 wins, an Olympic League title, and a top 10 Mid-Valley Division finish in his first two seasons. 49 members are listed on the varsity squad this season; 22 players are returning lettermen. Paraclete returns 13 starters from the 2007 season Schedule and Results 2007 All-Olympic League and All-CIF Mid-Valley Division selections Andrew Culver and Todd Davis are two of the 13 returnees for the Spirits. Kyle Swanson and Todd Davis were recognized by the LA Times as the top players at their respective positions in the Southern Section earlier last week. Paraclete recently upgraded their uniforms for the 2008 season, adding black accent to the already famous red and gold color scheme. He compiled a 12-1 record in 2007 and guided the Spirits to a first place finish in the Olympic League with a 4-0 mark. In addition to being named league champions, Paraclete finished a semifinalist in the Mid-Valley Division with 8 All-CIF selections. Dahlia has complied a 17-6 overall record and a winning percentage of.739 as a varsity head coach. In only two seasons, he has led the Spirits to an impressive 6-2 Olympic League mark. He has also guided Paraclete to the postseason for the two straight seasons after the team missed the playoffs in He has been a member of the Paraclete coaching staff for 6 years. Prior to being named head coach before the 2006 season, Dahlia served as a defensive coordinator on the varsity team from Before that appointment, he served as the defensive coordinator for the junior varsity during the 2003 season. Each year, his teams have become deeper and stronger on paper and on the field. Teams under Dahlia s direction have resurrected and continued Paraclete s strong football tradition. Dahlia began his coaching career as a high school assistant at his alma mater, Burbank High School. He also had stops at John Burroughs High School (Burbank) and Cresenta Valley High School from 1979 to In 2003 he returned to the gridiron with Paraclete, where he was appointed the defensive. Dahlia is married to Lori Briggs. They have two children: Bobbi Lynn and Dominic. Both Bobbi Lynn ( 04) and Dominic ( 05) are Paraclete Alumni. In addition to his work on the football field, Dahlia and his family are extensively involved with Paraclete on campus and in the classrooms. While he serves as the Facilities Manager, Lori handles Scholarships and Endowment Services. Lori also heads up the popular The Night of Extreme Cuisine. Dominic is also member of the Paraclete varsity coaching staff, while Bobbi Lynn supports the football program both on and off the field.
