With a win this week, Buffalo can accomplish the following: First 3-0 start since 1992 Wins in fi rst two home games for the fi rst time since 2000 Secure a winning record in September for fi rst time since 2000 (2-1) This week, Buffalo will honor former DE Bruce Smith as he will be the 25th member inducted into the team s Wall of Fame during a halftime ceremony. 3 LAST WEEK - BILLS 20, JAGUARS 16 Sunday, September Jacksonville Municipal Stadium - Jacksonville, FL - The Buffalo Bills used a quick start and a great fi nish to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. On the Bills fi rst possession of the game, QB Trent Edwards led the Bills on an 11-play, 82-yard drive that RB Marshawn Lynch fi nished off with an 11-yard dash into the end zone for a 7-0 lead. Edwards was 6 for 6 on the drive for 53 yards. The teams traded fi eld goals before the half to send the Bills into halftime with a 10-3 lead. The momentum swung fully to Jacksonville after the break, as they took the second half kickoff and marched 74 yards for a touchdown and a tie game. On the ensuing kickoff, Jacksonville Head Coach Jack Del Rio caught the Bills special teams off-guard and called for a surprise onside kick. After the Jaguars recovered, they drove 29 yards for a Josh Scobee fi eld goal. After another Scobee fi eld goal, the Bills found themselves trailing just over 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. It was Edwards, again, that led the Bills down the fi eld with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. After connecting with WR Lee Evans for a 37-yard gain on a critical third-and-six to bring the Bills to the Jacksonville seven yard line, Edwards threw a perfectly placed pass to rookie WR James Hardy on the next play from scrimmage. The goahead score was Hardy s first career touchdown reception. After the Bills defense held the Jaguars to a three-and-out on their next possession, Buffalo tacked on a Rian Lindell fi eld goal with 24 seconds left. In addition to the contributions of Edwards and Hardy, the Bills offense got a big boost from backup RB Fred Jackson, who rushed for 17 yards and had seven receptions for 83 yards. Lynch 1-8 SMITH TO BE HONORED ON WALL The Buffalo Bills will honor former defensive end Bruce Smith on Sunday by making him the newest member of the Bills Wall of Fame. Smith will be the 25th person to have his name unveiled on the Wall of Fame. I can remember, it seems like just yesterday, running around and laughing with the guys. I have such fond memories of being led and coached by Marv (Levy) and the leadership in the front offi ce of Bill Polian and others, Smith said. That cliché that time fl ies when you re having fun is befi tting in this particular case. He was widely regarded as one of the most dominant defensive players ever to play the game and was selected to 11 Pro Bowls. Smith is the NFL s all-time sack leader with 200, he tallied 171 as a Bill. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1990 and He posted double digit sacks totals in 12 seasons. A Virginia Tech product, Smith was the fi rst player chosen in the 1985 NFL Draft. BILLS RUSHING DEFENSE The Buffalo Bills held the Jacksonville Jaguars to 98 yards rushing in Sunday s victory. The Bills have held 11 opponents under 100 yards rushing since Bills head coach Dick Jauron and his staff took over in The Bills improved their record to 8-3 since 2006 when holding the opposing team to less than 100 yards on the ground. 4 LAST MEETING - BILLS-RAIDERS RAIDERS 38, BILLS 17 OCTOBER 23, 2005 McAfee Coliseum (42,779) The Bills started strong for the third straight week under Kelly Holcomb as the team put together an impressive 14 play, 82-yard opening drive capped off by a fi ve-yard Lee Evans touchdown reception to put the Bills ahead 7-0. On the drive, Holcomb completed fi ve of nine passes setting up the touchdown score. After going three-and-out on their fi rst drive, the Raiders got on the board with a 25-yard Sebastian Janikowski fi eld goal to bring the score to 7-3. After a Buffalo punt, Oakland took advantage of good fi eld position and Kerry Collins completed a 18-yard pass to LaMont Jordan which set up a 22-yard touchdown pass from Collins to Randy Moss to give the Raiders a 10-7 lead. The Raiders came up big with a goal-line stand on the Bills next possession, stopping Daimon Shelton on a 4th-and-goal play. The Bills didn t let the disappointment of not scoring a touchdown bother them as Rian Lindell connected on his only fi eld goal of the day from 41 yards out to tie the game at 10. The Raiders scored before halftime on a LaMont Jordan one-yard touchdown run to give Oakland a halftime lead. The Raiders came out strong in the second half, as LaMont Jordan scored his second touchdown of the game on a 17-yard run to cap off Oakland s fi rst possession of the second half and give the Raiders a lead. The Bills made a valiant comeback effort, cutting the Raider lead to seven on a Josh Reed nine-yard touchdown reception to start the fourth quarter, but the Raiders were too much for the Bills, as they pulled away from Buffalo by adding a LaMont Jordan seven-yard TD run and a Zack Crockett two-yard TD run to close out the game Willis McGahee led the Bills with 16 carries for 50 yards and Kelly Holcomb completed passes for 159 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating. Butler is fi nishing his education at the University of Virginia in American politics. Butler also participated in the NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in February which focused on a broad range of business topics including fi nancial analysis, entrepreneurship, real estate development, stock market investing, negotiation skills, risk management and community reinvestment. Butler hosted Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman at a Bills Training Camp practice on Wednesday, July 31st at St. John Fisher College. 64 WEEK 1 BILLS 34, Seahawks 10 September 7, 2008 Ralph Wilson Stadium 71,194 The Buffalo Bills kicked off their 2008 season with a win over the Seattle Seahawks on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Marshawn Lynch put the Bills on the board late in the first quarter when he took the handoff from QB Trent Edwards and scampered 21 yards to the end zone to put the Bills ahead 7-0. Lynch finished the game with 76 yards rushing on 18 carries. Though both the Bills offense and defense had solid games, it was the special teams that made the most noise against the Seahawks. Bills WR Roscoe Parrish returned a Ryan Plackemeier punt 63 yards for a touchdown with 6:20 to go in the half. It was Parrish s third career punt return for a touchdown, tying him for first place with Keith Moody on Buffalo s all-time list. His 120 return yards in the game set a new Bills record, breaking his own record of 104 yards set in 2006 against Jacksonville. The second half began with the Seahawks climbing back to within 10, when K Olindo Mare converted a 45-yard field goal. Then the game turned on the back of Buffalo s special teams. With 2:21 remaining in the third quarter, the Bills lined up for what appeared to be a 36-yard field goal attempt. Instead, Bills P Brian Moorman picked up the snap and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open DE Ryan Denney, who had snuck behind the Seahawks defense. It was the first touchdown pass of Moorman s career, and the first touchdown of Denney s career. On the ensuing kickoff, Bills LB Jon Corto forced a fumble which was recovered by K Rian Lindell on the 30-yard line. One play later, TE Robert Royal was in the end zone, the recipient of a pass from QB Trent Edwards. For the game, Edwards was 19 of 30 for 215 yards and one touchdown. Denney 1-19 WEEK 2 BILLS 20, Jaguars 16 September 14, 2008 Jacksonville Municipal Stadium 65,167 The Buffalo Bills used a quick start and a stellar finish to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The Bills improved to 2-0 on the season, the first time since 2003 that they began a season with two consecutive victories. The Bills were led by second-year QB Trent Edwards, who was 20 of 25 for 239 yards on the afternoon with one touchdown. On the Bills first possession of the game, Edwards led the Bills on an 11-play, 82-yard drive that RB Marshawn Lynch finished off with an 11-yard dash into the end zone for a 7-0 lead. Edwards was 6 for 6 on the drive for 53 yards. The teams traded field goals before the half to send the Bills into halftime with a 10-3 lead. The momentum swung fully to Jacksonville after the break, as they took the second half kickoff and marched 74 yards for a touchdown and a tie game. On the ensuing kickoff, Jacksonville Head Coach Jack Del Rio caught the Bills special teams off-guard and called for a surprise onside kick. After the Jaguars recovered, they drove 29 yards for a Josh Scobee field goal. After another Scobee field goal, the Bills found themselves trailing just over 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. It was Edwards, again, who led the Bills down the field with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. After connecting with WR Lee Evans for a 37-yard gain on a critical third-and-six to bring the Bills to the Jacksonville seven yard line, Edwards threw a perfectly placed pass to rookie WR James Hardy on the next play from scrimmage. The go-ahead score was Hardy s first career touchdown reception. After the Bills defense held the Jaguars to a threeand-out on their next possession, Buffalo tacked on a Rian Lindell field goal with 24 seconds left. In addition to the contributions of Edwards and Hardy, the Bills offense got a big boost from backup RB Fred Jackson, who rushed for 17 yards and had a career-high seven receptions for 83 yards.
