3 LAST WEEK - BROWNS 29, BILLS 27 The Buffalo Bills lost their fourth straight game Monday night versus the Cleveland Browns at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The loss dropped the Bills to 5-5 on the year, two games out of fi rst place in the AFC East. Cleveland K Phil Dawson hit a 56-yard fi eld goal with 1:39 left in the fourth quarter to put the Browns up by two. An answering drive by the Buffalo offense brought the Bills to the Cleveland 30-yard line, but K Rian Lindell s 47-yard attempt curved just wide with 46 seconds remaining. The loss ended an up-and-down game for the Bills, who weathered four turnovers to almost pull off another come-from-behind victory. The Bills defense held early in the game, forcing a quick Browns three-and-out after Buffalo QB Trent Edwards was intercepted on his fi rst pass attempt. When Edwards was again intercepted on his third attempt of the game, the Browns took advantage, and went ahead 3-0 on a Phil Dawson fi eld goal. After another Dawson fi eld goal, Cleveland went ahead 13-0 on a two-yard Joshua Cribbs touchdown run early in the second. The Bills struck back, marching 59 yards down the fi eld and utilizing both RBs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. It was Lynch who took the Bills into the end zone, the recipient of an 18-yard pass from Edwards. The receiving touchdown was the fi rst of Lynch s career and drew the Bills to within six. A 26-yard fi eld goal from K Rian Lindell left them down by only three heading into the break. The teams traded fi eld goals in the third quarter, but on the fi rst play of the fourth quarter, Cleveland RB Jerome Harrison took the handoff from QB Brady Quinn and went 72 yards for a touchdown and a 10-point Cleveland lead. The Bills struck back immediately, as rookie KR Leodis McKelvin returned the ensuing kick 98 yards for a touchdown. 4 LAST MEETING - BILLS-CHIEFS BILLS 14, CHIEFS 3 NOVEMBER 13, 2005 RALPH WILSON STADIUM - (72,093) The Bills used a four-takeaway day from the defense and a solid relief performance from second year quarterback JP Losman to defeat the Chiefs 14-3 and improve their record to 4-5 on the year. After a 24-yard run by Larry Johnson, the Chiefs scored fi rst when Lawrence Tynes connected on a fi eld goal from 35 yards out near the end of the fi rst quarter. Bills defensive captain London Fletcher made a key play on the Chiefs next possession by sacking Trent Green and forcing a fumble which Jeff Posey recovered and returned 46 yards to the Chiefs 12 yardline. After two short runs by Willis McGahee, Holcomb was sacked and fumbled on a third down play, giving the ball back to the Chiefs. Holcomb suffered a head injury on the sack and would not return to the game. J.P. Losman saw action for the fi rst time since the team s fourth game and was effective in relief, connecting with Lee Evans at just under the two-minute warning for a 33-yard touchdown to give the Bills a 7-3 lead. Angelo Crowell intercepted a Trent Green pass just before the end of the half, but the Bills were unable to capitalize on the turnover as Rian Lindell missed only his third fi eld goal of the year from 28 yards out. With injuries forcing Troy Vincent and Sam Adams to sit out, Rashad Baker spelled Vincent and came through with his fi rst interception of the year which he returned 18 yards to the Chiefs 26 yard-line, setting up the Bills second touchdown of the day when J.P. Losman connected with Lee Evans on a picture perfect pass from 29 yards out to put the Bills ahead The defense held the Chiefs off for the rest of the game and fi nished the game stoutly, as the unit did not allow a touchdown for the fi rst time since 12/7/03 when they gave up only two fi eld goals vs. the Jets. Led by Aaron Schobel s two sacks, the Bills defense posted six sacks, the team s highest sack output since 12/12/04 when they registered seven vs. Cleveland. London Fletcher led the Bills with 20 tackles and Angelo Crowell, Rashad Baker, and Terrence McGee all tallied interceptions. J.P. Losman completed nine of 16 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns and Lee Evans posted his most productive game of the year, registering two touchdown receptions for the third time in his career.
