The Mavericks will face the Kangaroos at 7 p.m. at Swinney Recreation Center. Friday s game can be heard on 1180 AM The Zone 2. Robert Ford will have the play-by-play. Streaming audio, video and live stats are available at OMavs.com. The Teams Omaha enters its first Summit League weekend with an 8-2 record. The Mavs last played on Friday, Dec. 21, a home win over College of Saint Mary. Kansas City enters their Summit League opener against Omaha with a 4-9 record. The Kangaroos have lost five straight, but four have come on the road. South Dakota (5-8) also opens its Summit League schedule against the Mavericks. The Coyotes lost two games on the road last weekend at Utah State and at Boise State. Series History Kansas City leads the all-time series with UNO, 3-1. The Kangaroos hold a 3-0 edge in games played in Kansas City, and they defeated the Mavericks last Jan. 11, UNO cut a 15-point deficit down to five in the closing minutes but couldn t get over the hump. Jamie Nash had 19 points. UNO holds a slight edge in its long series with USD, 34-33, but the Coyotes have a advantage on their home court. South Dakota beat UNO last year on Feb. 7, 58-38, at the DakotaDome. It was the Mavs lowest scoring output of the season, as they scored just eight points in the first half. Last Time Out OMAHA, Neb. - Carolyn Blair-Mobley and Casse Vaughn each scored a career-high 28 points, and the Mavs claimed a win over College of Saint Mary last Friday at the Sapp Fieldhouse. 2 CHANCE COLLEGIATE COACHING RECORD Omaha Head Coach (2011-present) Arizona Assistant Coach ( ) Barton County Community College Head Coach ( ) Assistant Coach ( ) LINDLEY 2nd Season Alma Mater: Wichita State (2000) Record at UNO: (.622) Career Record: Same Chance Lindley became the seventh head coach in UNO women s basketball history and the first male to lead the women s program in its 40-year history on April 16, Under Lindley, the Mavs first year in Division I in was a success on many accounts. A year after going 8-18 in Division II under then-head coach Patty Patton Shearer, the Mavs finished in their first season under Lindley, the most wins since UNO earned two wins against Division I teams, beating Western Illinois, 65-58, and UT Arlington, The Mavs went 9-3 at home for a.750 winning percentage, their highest since A Wichita, Kan., native, Lindley put together an impressive record as a head coach in the high school and junior college ranks in Kansas for eight years before taking the job as an assistant coach at Arizona in Lindley spent three seasons on the bench for the Wildcats in charge of all the defensive game planning and in-game offensive and defensive strategy. Lindley worked with the post players in practices and assisted in all of the Wildcats recruiting efforts. Lindley helped the Wildcats to a record in , the most wins for the program since Arizona finished fourth in the Pac-10, its highest conference finish since 2004, and appeared in the postseason for the first time since Prior to his stint at Arizona, Lindley led Barton County Community College to a school-record 34-4 mark and a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Tournament in The Cougars won the Region IV Championship, and Lindley was named the NJCAA Division I District F Women s Basketball Coach of the Year, the Jayhawk West Coach of the Year and the KBCA Junior College Women s Basketball Coach of the Year. Lindley served as an assistant at Barton County CC in when the Cougars went 27-3, giving the Cougars a 61-7 (.897) record while Lindley was at the school. Lindley was a standout coach in the Kansas high school ranks for six years before moving to the collegiate level, twice winning Wichita Metro Coach of the Year and earning Kansas 3A Coach of the Year honors. Lindley graduated cum laude from Wichita State in 2000, majoring in Physical Education K-12. Chance and his wife, Melissa, have a daughter, Brookelyn. 3 OMavs.com OMAHA WOMEN S BASKETBALL About the Mavericks Senior guard Paige Frauendorfer leads the Mavs in scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). She leads the conference with 3.4 offensive rebounds per game, and she is third in The Summit League in field goal percentage (48.4 percent). Senior point guard Jamie Nash runs the Maverick offense with 10.5 ppg, 7.9 apg and 3.6 spg. She ranks fifth nationally in assists per game and 11th in steals per game and leads The Summit League in both categories. Senior transfer Carolyn Blair-Mobley adds 11.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Blair-Mobley is coming off a career-high 28 points on Dec. 21 in a win over College of Saint Mary. Junior forward Casse Vaughn leads The Summit League with a 59.4-percent field goal percentage. She is also coming off a career-high 28 points in the win over CSM. The Mavericks are the top shooting team in The Summit League at 44.1 percent and are also first from 3-point range at 36.1 percent. UNO is second in the league with 15.0 assists per game. On the defensive end, the Mavs lead the conference in field goal percentage allowed (35.6 percent) and scoring defense (56.1 ppg). Scouting Kansas City Eilise O Connor is leading the Kangaroos in scoring with 16.0 points per game, which ranks second in The Summit League. UMKC averages just 14.8 turnovers per game, tops in The Summit League. Scouting South Dakota Nicole Seekamp averages 14.5 points per game to lead the Coyotes. Polly Harrington adds 12.1 points per game. USD averages 44.4 rebounds per game to lead The Summit League. Quick Notes UNO s 92 points on Dec. 21 against College of Saint Mary was the best scoring output under second-year head coach Chance Lindley. When the Mavs score at least 65 points under head coach Chance Lindley, they are UNO is 20-1 when leading at halftime under Lindley with a perfect 6-0 mark this season. Through 36 games in Chance Lindley s tenure, no opponent has shot 50.0 percent or better from the field. In the season prior to Lindley taking over, UNO allowed five opponents to eclipse the 50.0-percent mark from the floor. The closest an opponent has come is Louisiana s 45.0 percent (27-of-60) on Nov. 16, Nash, Frauendorfer Closing in on 1,000 Career Seniors Jamie Nash and Paige Frauendorfer are both closing in on 1,000 career points. Nash ranks 24th in school history with 944 career points, while Frauendorfer ranks 27th with 899 career points. Twenty-three Mavericks are members of the 1,000-point club. Nash Climbing the School-Record Charts In addition to chasing 1,000 career points, senior guard Jamie Nash has a few school records in her sights in her final season at UNO. The Verona, Mo., native has 307 career steals, placing her second in school history. Kriss Edwards ( ) holds the school record of 331 steals. Nash has 449 career assists, ranking her third in school history. Jennifer Mitchell ( ) holds the school record of 474 assists. Kelly Joins Group of School s Top Shot Blockers Sophomore center Taijhe Kelly has already established herself as one of the top shot blockers to ever put on a UNO jersey. Kelly swatted 43 shots as a freshman, which ranked as the seventh-highest single-season total in school history, and she has blocked 19 shots this season, giving her 62 career blocks to rank seventh in school history. Mary Henke Anderson is the school-record holder with 291 career blocks, an average of 72.8 per season. Vaughn s Big Day Junior forward Casse Vaughn scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to spark the Omaha women s basketball team to a win over College of St. Mary on Dec. 21 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Vaughn finished 12-of-18 from the floor and led the Mavericks to a edge in points in the paint and rebounding advantage. Her career highs coming into the game were 11 points and six rebounds, but she had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the second half alone on Friday. Frauendorfer Named Summit League Player of the Week Senior guard Paige Frauendorfer was named Summit League Player of the Week on Monday for her performance during the week of Nov Frauendorfer led the Mavericks to three home wins over the course of the opening week for the Mavs first 3-0 start since She averaged 16.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, and she shot 60.0 percent (21-of-35) from the floor over the three games. Frauendorfer is the first UNO women s basketball player to receive the honor. Frauendorfer Named to All-Summit League Preseason Second Team Paige Frauendorfer was named to the All-Summit League Preseason Second Team, determined by a vote of the league s head coaches, media and media relations personnel. Frauendorfer earned the preseason honor after leading the Mavs in scoring last season with 13.1 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She also had 10 double-doubles while helping the Mavs to a record in their first Division I season. Oakland s Bethany Watterworth was named the preseason Player of the Year. Joining Watterworth on the first team are Kansas City teammates Kim Nezianya and Eilise O Connor, IUPUI s Kerah Nelson, North Dakota State s Katie Birkel and South Dakota State s Ashley Eide. Joining Frauendorfer on the second team are returning Newcomer of the Year Saule Kontautaite of Western Illinois, North Dakota State s Janae Burich, IUPUI s Katie Comello and Oakland s Zakiya Minifee. Lindley Returns for Second Season with Three New Assistants Head Coach Chance Lindley is in his second season at Omaha, but he has almost an entirely different staff than he did in his first year. Shanele Stires left to become an assistant at San Francisco, and Jason Flores and Elena Lovato took head coaching gigs. In the offseason, Lindley promoted director of operations Brittany Lange to an assistant role. He then added former America East Player of the Year Jesyka Burks-Wiley to his coaching staff, as well as former All-Big Sky Conference guard Rebecca Alvidrez, who spent the past six seasons as an assistant turning Alaska Anchorage into a Division II powerhouse with her strong recruiting ties. Elisha Turek, the 2007 Mid-Con Player of the Year, was also hired as the new director of operations. Oklahoma State Transfer Blair-Mobley a Welcome Addition Former Oklahoma State guard Carolyn Blair-Mobley joins the UNO women s basketball program for her final season of eligibility in A 5-10 native of St. Paul, Minn., Blair-Mobley played two seasons at Oklahoma State after one season at Cloud County (Kan.) Community College. Blair-Mobley sat out the season and has one year of eligibility remaining after she earned her bachelor s degree at OSU last year. She will be eligible to play immediately this season while pursuing her master s degree at UNO. As a junior for the Cowgirls in , Blair-Mobley started 22 of 32 games - fourth most on the squad - and averaged 2.5 points and 2.6 rebounds while attempting fewer than three shots per game. In her sophomore campaign in , her first year in the program, Blair-Mobley played in all 32 games, starting four for the Cowgirls, who finished overall and reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Mavs Sign Four for Season The Mavericks added four new players to this year s squad in addition to Oklahoma State senior transfer Carolyn Blair-Mobley. Two junior college transfers - Ericka House and Casse Vaughn - join the fray this season, as well as freshmen Kate Bayes and Allison Jackson. House, a 5-9 guard from Hot Springs, Ark., was regarded as one of the top junior college Region XIV players in at Tyler Junior College in Texas. House averaged 12.5 points per game and shot 39.2 percent from long distance (87-of-222) in her second year at TJC. As a freshman, House scored a careerhigh 41 points in a game and hit 13-of-22 from 3-point range to set the NJCAA record for 3-pointers made in a game. Vaughn, a 6-0 forward from Little Rock, Ark., averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds as a sophomore at Arkansas Baptist in Vaughn was an all-state selection as a senior at North Little Rock High School, where her team ranked 15th in the ESPN Fab 50 High School Poll. Bayes scored more than 2,000 points in her career at Sonoma Academy in California. She was named MVP of the North Central League II and was also named The Press Democrat All-Empire Small-School Female Athlete of the Year for the third straight year after averaging 23.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game as a senior. Jackson, a 6-0 forward out of Burges High School in El Paso, Texas, averaged 14.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and was a second-team all-city selection. Liepa Out for the Season Senior forward Zenta Liepa had knee surgery over the summer and is out for the season. Liepa, a Riga, Latvia native who arrived at UNO by way of Independence Community College in Kansas, started 11 games and

5 averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in her first year at UNO last year. Without the 6-1 Liepa, the Mavs are a little thin in the post with 6-4 sophomore center Taijhe Kelly and 6-0 junior forward Stacia Gebers the only healthy returners down low. The Mavs added some depth with 6-0 junior forward Casse Vaughn and 6-0 freshman forward Allison Jackson. OMavs.com OMAHA WOMEN S BASKETBALL Mavs Play Full Summit League Schedule for First Time The season marks UNO s first with a full Summit League schedule. UNO plays all eight Summit League foes twice, starting with a Dec. 28 game on the road at Kansas City. Although the Mavericks will appear in The Summit League standings, UNO cannot qualify for the Summit League Championship or the NCAA Tournament until UNO played 12 of its 27 games against Division I teams last year, but this year will be considerably more difficult with 25 games against Division I foes and just three against non-division I schools. Mavs Picked to Finish Ninth in First Season in The Summit League The Omaha women s basketball team was picked to finish ninth in The Summit League Preseason Poll, determined by a vote of the league s head coaches, media and media relations personnel. South Dakota State was picked as the favorite to win the conference. The Jackrabbits received 22-of-25 first-place votes (coaches may not vote for their own team) after claiming its fourth straight tournament title last season. Last season s other Summit League Tournament finalist, Kansas City, placed second in the poll with 260 points and one first-place vote. Oakland, North Dakota State and IUPUI were separated by just 21 points for the third through fifth slots with the Jaguars claiming one first-place tally. South Dakota edged out Western Illinois for sixth place, while Fort Wayne and league newcomer Omaha rounded out the poll. The Mastodons collected the final first-place vote. The Summit League concluded a record-setting season a year ago, finishing the year ranked No. 19 in the College Basketball News RPI, peaking as high as No. 11 midseason. The league sent a record four teams to postseason tournaments and set a new women s league tournament attendance record. Mavs Make Strides in First Division I Season The Mavs first year in Division I can be considered a success on many accounts. A year after going 8-18 in Division II, the Mavs finished in their first Division I season last year, the most wins since Paige Frauendorfer led UNO with 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and had 10 double-doubles. UNO earned two wins against Division I teams, beating Western Illinois, 65-58, and UT Arlington, Jamie Nash averaged 4.1 steals per game to rank second in Division I. She also had 166 assists, the highest single-season total in school history.
