1 4 STRAIGHT BOWL WINS 17 STRAIGHT BOWLS 108 WINS LAST 11 SEASONS 20 1ST TEAM ALL AMERICANS SINCE '10 6 STRAIGHT APR PUBLIC RECOGNITION AWARDS GAME 13 BADGERS, 'CANES CLASH IN THE BRONX Wisconsin (7-5) looks to extend its nation-leading streak of bowl game victories when it faces off with Miami (7-5) in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 27. The Badgers and Hurricanes meet for the second straight season, a rematch of last year's Capital One Orange Bowl that saw UW score a win on Miami's home field. The matchup marks the 3rd bowl clash in the span of 10 years for the Badgers and Hurricanes, with both previous meetings ending in wins for Wisconsin. See Page 17 KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER Wisconsin is in its 4th season under Paul Chryst, who is (.774) as head coach at his alma mater. The two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year has led the Badgers to a pair of Big Ten West Division crowns and New Year s Six bowl wins. He is 3-0 in bowl games as UW's head coach. The Badgers have won 4 straight bowl games, matching Georgia, Louisiana Tech and Utah for the nation's longest active streak. Wisconsin's 17 straight bowl appearances marks the Big Ten's longest run and ranks in a tie for 5th nationally. See Page 4 UW is (.776) over the last 5 seasons, trailing only Alabama (66-5,.930), Clemson (63-7,.900), Ohio State (61-7,.897) and Oklahoma (54-12,.818) in wins among FBS teams in that span. The Badgers are led by Doak Walker Award winner and unanimous first-team All-American Jonathan Taylor. The sophomore running back has rushed for a nation-leading 1,989 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging yards per game nearly 20 better than No. 2-ranked Darrell Henderson of Memphis (146.9). See Page 3 With 3,966 yards, Taylor has smashed Ron Dayne s FBS record (3,566) for rushing yards by a player through his sophomore season. Georgia's Herschel Walker (3,507) is the only other player with at least 3,500 yards through his first 2 seasons. See Page 3 Wisconsin ranks 7th nationally in rushing, averaging yards per game and trails only tripleoption attack Georgia Tech (334.9) among Power Five conference teams. The Badgers' success on the ground starts with an offensive line featuring a pair of All-Americans in senior guards Beau Benzschawel and Michael Deiter. Benzschawel, at right guard, is a consensus first-team All-American. Deiter, at left guard, earned first-team accolades and is set to extend his own school record by starting his 54th consecutive game. Boston College RB AJ Dillon (117.3 ypg) ranks No. 2 on that list. Sophomore RB Jonathan Taylor leads the nation in rushing with 1,989 yards, is averaging per game 18.9 more than any other FBS player and has scored 15 rushing touchdowns. Taylor is the Badgers' 4th Doak Walker Award winner as the nation's top running back and is the 10th unanimous first-team All-American in UW history. With 3,966, Taylor has broken fellow Badger Ron Dayne s FBS record for combined rushing yards as a freshman and sophomore. Taylor, Dayne (3,566 yards, ) and Georgia s Herschel Walker (3,507, ) are the only FBS players to tally 3,500 rushing yards in their first 2 seasons. Taylor s 3,966 yards already represent the 6thhighest two-year rushing total in FBS history: RUSH YARDS IN CONSECUTIVE SEASONS (FBS) 1. Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin ( ) 4, Troy Davis, Iowa State ( ) 4, LaDanian Tomlinson, TCU ( ) 4, Ricky Williams, Texas ( ) 4, Marcus Allen, USC ( ) 3, Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin ( ) 3,966 With 1,989 this year and an FBS freshman record 1,977 last season, Taylor is only the 4th player in FBS history to rush for more than 1,900 yards in consecutive seasons. He joins Iowa State's Troy Davis ( ), TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson ( ) and Memphis' DeAngelo Williams ( ). Taylor has 5 career games with at least 200 rushing yards and 3 TDs, including 4 this season alone. No other FBS player has more than 2 such games during that 2-year stretch. His 7 career 200-yard games are 2nd-most by a Wisconsin player, matching 2014 Heisman runnerup Melvin Gordon (7). Only 1999 Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne (14) has recorded more. Taylor has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in 11 games this season only Melvin Gordon (12 in 2014) has had more for the Badgers and has hit the 100-yard mark 21 times in 26 career games. The explosive Taylor owns 52 runs of 10-plus yards, 2nd-most of any FBS player behind Memphis' Darrell Henderson (55), who has played in 1 more game. Taylor's 3 runs of 70-plus yards all touchdowns are the 2nd-most of any FBS player. The Badgers' only previous contest came on Nov. 9, 1940, when they were handed a 7-6 defeat by Columbia at Baker Field. UW's only other game to take place in the state of New York was a tie at Syracuse on Sept. 18, The Badgers have twiced played in the home of New York professional teams, including a bowl matchup. UW fell, 28-21, to Tennessee in the 1981 Garden State Bowl and also suffered a 34-0 loss to Syracuse in their 1997 season-opener. Both games were played at since-demolished Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Wisconsin football's most notable tie to Yankee Stadium is 1954 Heisman Trophy winner Alan Ameche, who starred in the 1958 NFL Championship Game often referred to as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Ameche scored a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winning score on a 1-yard run in overtime to give his Baltimore Colts a win over the New York Giants. The dramatic game played out in front of a crowd of 64,185 at Yankee Stadium and an estimated television audience of 45 million people. GOING BOWLING UW has won 4 straight bowl games, beating Auburn (2015 Outback Bowl), USC (2015 Holiday Bowl), Western Michigan (2017 Cotton Bowl) and Miami (2017 Orange Bowl). That is tied for the longest current bowl winning streak in the country (with Georgia, Louisiana Tech and Utah). Wisconsin is playing in a bowl game for the 17th consecutive season, the longest active streak in the Big Ten and tied for the fifthlongest in the FBS. ACTIVE BOWL GAME STREAKS Team Streak 1. Virginia Tech Georgia Oklahoma LSU Wisconsin 17 Boise State 17 Since 1993, Wisconsin has made 8 appearances in the current New Year s Six bowl games (6 Rose Bowl appearances, 1 Cotton Bowl, 1 Orange Bowl). Wisconsin s 5 appearances in the Big Ten Football Championship Game since 2011 are the most of any Power Five team in its respective conference over those 8 years. LEAGUE LEADER TEAM INFORMATION The Badgers have gone 34-9 (.791) in conference play over the last 5 seasons ( ). Only Ohio State (39-4,.907) has a better league record over that span. LINING UP FOR AWARDS Deiter who was a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy as the nation's most outstanding interior lineman led the way for 4 first-team All-Big Ten picks from Wisconsin's offensive line this season, including 3 consensus selections. Deiter was named 2018 Rimington-Pace Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year and received first-team All-Big Ten nods from both the league's coaches and media. Benzschawel and sophomore center Tyler Biadasz also were consensus first-team All- Big Ten selections. Junior RT David Edwards earned a first-team nod from the league media and was a second-team pick by the coaches. 'FOCUS' ON THE GUYS UP FRONT Not only was the Badgers' offensive line well-represented on postseason honors lists, it also graded out well according to Pro Football Focus: Sophomore Cole Van Lanen, who split time at left tackle for UW, ranked as the nation's top tackle with a PFF grade of 90.0, just ahead of unanimous All-American Jonah Williams of Alabama (89.9). Biadasz ranked as PFF's top center in the country, with a grade of Benzschawel graded out as the No. 2 guard in the country (83.3) while Deiter finished No. 5 in the PFF grading (80.9). FOR STARTERS In the Pinstripe Bowl, senior LG Michael Deiter is expected to make his 54th career start to extend his own school record. The versatile Deiter has started each of his 53 career games, making 23 starts at left guard, 16 at center and 14 at left tackle. Deiter s run of 53 straight is the longest streak of consecutive starts in UW history and is the longest current streak by an offensive lineman in the FBS. Senior ILB T.J. Wisconsin had won 10 or more games in a season just 3 times before Chryst joined the Badgers coaching staff as offensive coordinator in In his 11 full seasons on staff GAME NOTES since, the Badgers have posted double-digit win totals 8 times. Overall, the Badgers are (.748) with Chryst as a member of the UW coaching staff, including stints as tight ends coach (2002), offensive coordinator ( ) and head coach (2015-present). Chryst developed a reputation for building highly-efficient offenses during his time as the Badgers offensive coordinator from Over his last two seasons ( ), the Badgers averaged 42.9 points per game, third among Power Five teams over that time frame only Oregon (46.5 ppg) and Oklahoma State (46.5) averaged more. FAMILIAR FACES The Badgers are the only FBS program to have alumni as head coach (Paul Chryst), offensive coordinator (Joe Rudolph) and defensive coordinator (Jim Leonhard). In head coach Paul Chryst and assistant coaches Jim Leonhard, Joe Rudolph, Jon Budmayr and Mickey Turner, UW has 5 alums among its 11 full-time coaches. Kansas State (7) was the only Power Five program with more alumni on its coaching staff this season. DIGGING DEEPER Though Jonathan Taylor has handled the bulk of the carries for the Badgers, the numbers show that UW has developed depth at running back this season: Senior RB Taiwan Deal, who missed the entire 2017 season and played in just 6 games in 2016 due to injury, has emerged as Wisconsin s second-leading rusher, with 72 carries for 493 yards and 5 touchdowns. Deal recorded his first 100-yard game since 2015 by running for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns vs. Illinois on Oct. 20, including a career-long 39-yard TD run. Sophomore RB Garrett Groshek has excelled as UW s primary third-down back and ranks 3rd on the team with 62 carries for 410 yards, including a career-high 73 vs. Nebraska. The versatile former walk-on also is 4th on the team with 23 receptions, which have covered 153 yards and include 1 touchdown catch. Groshek has surpassed his 14-game rushing total from last season (366 yards) and is averaging 6.6 yards per carry after posting an average of 4.9 ypc in As a receiver, Groshek had 4 catches for 40 yards in 14 games last season a number he has boosted to 23 catches for 153 yards this season. Overall, Groshek has accounted for 563 yards from scrimmage and is averaging 6.6 yards per touch, a big jump over his mark of 5.2 yards per touch last season. The Badgers top four rushers Taylor, Deal, Groshek and FB Alec Ingold have combined for 435 carries this season and have lost yardage on just 12 of those attempts (2.7%) for a total of 26 yards. That includes just 7 negative runs in Big Ten play. All 4 6

As a team, Wisconsin ranks 7th nationally in rushing at yards per game. The Badgers ran for 385 yards at Purdue on Nov. 17, their 5th 300-yard effort of the season and 4th in Big Ten play. UW had 317 yards vs. Rutgers on Nov. 3. UW ran for 370 yards vs. Nebraska on Oct. 6, its largest rushing output in a Big Ten game in 4 years. On Oct. 13, the Badgers ran for 183 yards including 101 from Taylor alone against a Michigan defense that entered the game allowing 96.5 yards per contest. Adjusting for sacks, UW averaged 7.2 yards per carry against the Wolverines. Teams are averaging 3.3 vs. Michigan on the season. GOOD AS INGOLD More than just a blocking back, senior FB Alec Ingold has once again been a dualthreat weapon out of the backfield for the Badgers. In addition to averaging 6.3 yards per carry and scoring 5 touchdowns on the ground, Ingold has recorded a career-best 93 receiving yards on the year, averaging 18.6 yards per catch. With 20 total touchdowns on 112 touches for his career (98 rushing attempts and 14 receptions), Ingold has averaged a touchdown every 5.6 touches. For comparison, Montee Ball (who finished his Badgers career with a then-fbs record 83 total TDs) averaged a touchdown every 11.8 touches. AN EDGE IN EFFICIENCY Offensively, Wisconsin is averaging 6.45 yards per play, the 9th-best mark by a Power Five school. That continues a steady improvement in that category under Paul Chryst from 5.29 yards per play in his first season in 2015 to 5.45 (2016) to 6.09 (2017) to 6.45 (2018). Contributing to that efficiency is the Badgers ability to move the ball on first down. Wisconsin is averaging 7.4 yards per rushing attempt on first down, the nation s No. 2 mark behind Clemson (7.7 ypc). On his own, Jonathan Taylor is averaging 7.6 yards per carry on first down. FIRST DOWN FERG Redshirt freshman TE Jake Ferguson has quickly proven his value to the Badgers offense by logging 34 receptions 2ndmost on the team for a total of 441 yards that ranks second on the team behind WR A.J. Taylor (508). Of Ferguson s 34 receptions, 27 have gone for a first down or touchdown. Ferguson has been targeted 23 times on third and fourth down, making 16 catches for 222 yards (13.9 average) and converting 12 first downs. RED ALERT GAME NOTES Wisconsin is finishing drives this season, scoring touchdowns on 33 of its 47 possessions that entered the red zone (70.2%). That ranks 7th among Power Five teams, a group led by Clemson (78.8%, 52 of 60). For Wisconsin, that s an improvement over last season s mark of 66.1%, when UW scored TDs on 41 of 62 red-zone drives. Overall, UW has scored on 42 of its 47 red zone trips (33 TDs, 9 field goals). HORNIBROOK HITS THE TARGET Third-year starting QB Alex Hornibrook is 26-6 (.813) as the Badgers starting QB, including a 20-4 mark (.833) in Big Ten play and an 12-3 record (.800) away from Camp Randall Stadium. His 26 wins rank in a tie for 5th-most in school history, while his.813 win percentage is the best of any UW quarterback with at least 15 starts. See lists, Page 11 Hornibrook has been at his best in the fourth quarter. Hornibrook is 27-for-41 (65.9%) for 367 yards, 4 TDs and 2 interceptions in the final period this season, good for a pass efficiency rating of Hornibrook has gone 13-for-23 for 133 yards, 11 TDs and no interceptions in the red zone this season (262.9 pass efficiency rating, 2nd-best in the FBS among QBs with at least 10 red-zone attempts). Dating back to the start of last season (22 games), Hornibrook has thrown 32 touchdown passes against only 2 interceptions in the red zone. With 47 for his career, Hornibrook is just the 4th Wisconsin quarterback to throw 40 touchdown passes, joining Darrell Bevell (59), Joel Stave (48) and John Stocco (47). See lists, Page 11 Hornibrook is the 7th player in school history to throw for 5,000 yards. He has 5,438 for his career to rank 5th all-time at UW. He needs 190 yards to pass Brooks Bollinger (5,627) for 4th on UW s career passing list. COAN ANSWERS THE CALL Sophomore QB Jack Coan has made 3 starts, and 4 appearances in total, in relief of an injured Hornibrook this season. A Long Island native from Sayville, N.Y., Coan made his starting debut Oct. 27 at Northwestern and went 20-for-31 (64.5%) for 158 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. He entered in the relief of Hornibrook due to injury in the second half vs. Rutgers on Nov. 3 and went 5-for-7 for 64 yards and an 11-yard TD pass to WR Danny Davis. Coan led the Badgers to 3 touchdowns on his 4 second-half drives vs. Rutgers. After throwing for just 60 yards at Penn State on Nov. 10, Coan put together a career day in UW's triple-overtime win over Purdue on Nov. 17, going 16-for-24 for a career-high 160 yards. 7

Edwards has matched the highest sack total of his career, with 3.0, a mark he also achieved in Edwards has 9 interceptions for his career, the most of any active FBS linebacker. Edwards 9 picks match Craig Raddatz ( ) for the most by a UW linebacker and ranks in a tie for 8th on the Badgers career interceptions list. See list, Page 11 Edwards also has the most passes defended of any linebacker in school history, with 24 (9 interceptions, 15 pass breakups). SHIFTING SECONDARY Over the second half of the season, Wisconsin s young secondary had to overcome a rash of injuries that sidelined 6 defensive backs who have started games: The Badgers have used 10 different starters in the secondary over the last 7 games, including 6 players who made the first starts of their careers: cornerbacks Donte Burton, Madison Cone and Rachad Wildgoose and safeties Evan Bondoc, Eric Burrell and Reggie Pearson (Wildgoose and Pearson are true freshmen who saw their first collegiate action when they started at Michigan on Oct. 13). IT S GOOD FOR GAGLIANONE Senior K Rafael Gaglianone holds UW's career record with 70 made field goals and ranks No. 2 all-time in field-goal percentage (.778, 70-90) see list, Page 11. 8 HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST 2016 & 2017 BIG TEN COACH OF THE YEAR HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST Wisconsin football continues to thrive under Paul Chryst s leadership. A back-to-back Big Ten Coach of the Year selection, Chryst has become one of just three mentors in league history to post double-digit win totals in each of his first three seasons as head coach, joining Michigan legend Fielding Yost and current Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. He also has piloted UW to a pair of Big Ten West Division crowns and berths in the Big Ten Football Championship Game. In his first season as head coach at his alma mater, Chryst led Wisconsin to a 10-3 record in 2015 a run that concluded with a victory over USC in the Holiday Bowl. For an encore, he directed the Badgers to an 11-3 finish in 2016, including a win in the Cotton Bowl and the Big Ten West Division championship. Chryst was named 2016 Hayes-Schembechler Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of his league peers and for leading UW to an 11-win season against a schedule that included six matchups with top 10-ranked teams was a national finalist for both The Dodd Trophy and Paul Bear Bryan Coach of the Year awards. He swept the league s top coaching honors in 2017 after leading the Badgers to another West Division crown, a 12-0 regular season and a No. 3 ranking the program s highest in the AP poll since In addition to repeating as Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year, Chryst was named Dave McClain Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of league media. Through three seasons under Chryst, the Badgers have produced 10 All-Americans, including six firstteam All-America selections. Wisconsin had a school-record seven All-America honorees in 2017 alone. A total of 13 players have earned first-team All-Big Ten laurels under Chryst s watch. Including his time as head coach and a stint as the Badgers offensive coordinator, he has overseen some of the nation s best units on both sides of the ball. Across his first three seasons as head coach, Wisconsin boasted one of the nation s truly elite defenses. The Badgers allowed just 14.4 points per game over those three seasons, a mark that ranked No. 2 nationally over that span and trailed only Alabama s mark of 13.4 points allowed per contest. Over those three years, Wisconsin also ranked No. 3 in total defense (277.5 yards per game), No. 2 in rushing defense (97.6 ypg) and No. 2 in pass efficiency defense (100.2). During Chryst s seven years as offensive coordinator from , Wisconsin averaged 34.1 points and yards of total offense per game. Both marks were the best in the Big Ten over that span and powered the Badgers to conference titles in 2010 and 2011, remarkable offensive seasons in which UW averaged 41.5 and 44.1 points per game, respectively. Wisconsin piled up a (.761) record with Chryst as its offensive coordinator. Wisconsin had won 10 or more games in a season just three times before Chryst joined the Badgers coaching staff as offensive coordinator in In his 10 seasons on staff since, the Badgers posted doubledigit win totals eight times and had an overall record of (.782). Before returning to UW, Chryst spent the previous three seasons as the head coach at Pittsburgh, where he led the Panthers to three consecutive bowl appearances. Chryst was a three-time letterwinner at UW, where he earned a degree in political science. 9 THE CHRYST FILE Career Record (7th Season): (.659) Record at Wisconsin: (4th Season) Big Ten Record: 27-8 (4th Season) Bowl Record: 4-1 (.800) Birthdate: Nov. 17, 1965 Hometown: Madison, Wis. CAMP RANDALL STADIUM One of college football s finest facilities, Camp Randall Stadium just keeps getting better and better with age. Originally opened in 1917, the venerable venue celebrated its centennial in What now stands as the oldest stadium in the Big Ten, Camp Randall was originally used as a Civil War training site. This hallowed ground has seen many upgrades since officially becoming the home of the Badgers in During the Civil War, nearly 70,000 soldiers trained at Camp Randall, which also included a hospital and a prison for Confederate soldiers on its grounds. Named for Alexander Randall, the state of Wisconsin s first wartime governor, the Camp Randall land was returned to state fair property after peace was restored. The fair later moved to Milwaukee, and Wisconsin s Civil War veterans urged the legislature to purchase the land. In 1893, the state presented the site to the university as a memorial athletic field. Since then, Camp Randall Stadium has grown from a small venue with wooden bleachers to one of the largest stadiums in the Big Ten with a capacity of 80,321. One of the nation s most historic college football venues, Camp Randall Stadium also happens to be one of the intimidating for opposing teams, and Wisconsin has made the most of the home-field advantage that the raucous atmosphere provides. Though it has only been a tradition at Camp Randall Stadium since 1998, Jump Around is now a defining part of UW game day. Between the third and fourth quarters, Jump Around by House of Pain is played and the 80,000-plus fans delight in doing as the tune instructs. Jump Around was crowned the winner of Sports Illustrated s Greatest College Football Traditions bracket in 2012 and was named the nation s best tradition in votes contested by SiriusXM College Sports Nation in 2014 and Since the start of the 2004 season, the Badgers have compiled a record (.882) at Camp Randall Stadium, the third-highest winning percentage among Power Five programs. Only Ohio State (96-10,.906), Oklahoma (83-9,.902) and Alabama (94-12,.887) have won a higher percentage of their home games in that span. Opened in 1917, Camp Randall is the fourth-oldest stadium in the FBS. The only older on-campus facilities are: Georgia Tech (1913), Mississippi State (1914) and Cincinnati (1916). The Camp Randall grounds were used as a Civil War training site. It also held Confederate soldiers, many of whom died and were laid to rest on the west side of Madison. The area known as soldiers rest is the northernmost Confederate cemetery in the United States. Camp Randall Stadium served as a living quarters for students and military personnel during the 1940s. Dormitories were built underneath the east side stands. Approximately 150 men lived there. OLDEST STADIUMS Camp Randall is among the oldest facilities in the FBS: 1.
