It was the first time that happened since Jan. 10, 2012 against Notre Dame when Ron Anderson Jr. and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick each had 10.» USF s 50 points in the paint at Temple was its most since recording 50 on March 9, 2010 in a win over Depaul» Victor Rudd has scored in double figures in all but three games this season» Victor Rudd and Corey Allen Jr. are the only two players to start in every game this season» In every game Victor Rudd has recorded at least 10 rebounds, he s had at least 10 points for a double-double» Musa Abdul-Aleem is 13-of-53 (24.5 percent) from three-point range, but 9-of-14 from two» Anthony Collins has led the team in assists in every game he s played this season (8, missed the first two and last seven due to injury)» John Egbunu has recorded at least one blocked shot in all but two game this season (FGCU, Mississippi State)» John Egbunu s 26 blocks on the season is the third most ever at USF among freshmen, first is 50» 59.1 percent of USF s scoring has come via two-pointers, the 18th most in the NCAA according to KenPom» 42.6 percent of USF s scoring has come from three newcomers: Corey Allen Jr., John Egbunu and Chris Perry» 22.5 percent of USF s scoring has come from Victor Rudd» USF is 0-4 when shooting under 40 percent from the field» USF is 6-1 when outrebounding its opponent» USF is 5-1 when leading at halftime, but 2-6 when trailing at the break» USF is 7-0 when committing less turnovers than its opponent» Victor Rudd is one of three players (TaShawn Thomas/UH, Isaiah Sykes/USF) in the American Conference to rank in the top 10 in scoring and rebounding. 10th in scoring (15.5), 7th in rebounding (6.9)» Corey Allen Jr. ranks 19th in the conference in scoring (11.8), 25th in rebounding (4.5), 12th in assists (3.5), 11th in steals (1.5), third in minutes played (35.6)» John Egbunu ranks 7th in the conference in rebounding (6.9), the most of any freshman, 5th in blocked shots (1.5), 7th in offensive rebounding (2.8)» Chris Perry ranks 16th in the conference in rebounding (5.8) QUOTE TO NOTE Zach was back home and he responded well. He had the energy level and he played well, and I don t think the rest of the team had that same energy level Zach had. Stan Heath, USF head coach on Zach LeDay s season-high 12 points at SMU I m happy Josh is playing. I m glad Ramona (Heath s mom) let me borrow him for my senior year. Josh has been good all year in practice and when coach was thinking about playing him I told him I thought it was a good idea. He s very solid, he s poised and he s ready to play. 3 freshman made his collegiate debut on Jan. 9 at Temple. He scored two points, five assists and zero turnovers in 19 minutes of play while mainly playing point guard. GETTING TO THE LINE USF s 451 free throws attempted ranks second in the conference only to Louisville s 460. USF ranks third in the conference in free throws made with 296. DIFFERENT PAGES USF s heralded freshmen John Egbunu and Chris Perry have been impressive so far this season but have rarely been on target at the same time. Only three times has the duo scored in double figures during the same game... OSU, FGCU and Santa Clara. MILESTONE ON THE HORIZON Senior forward Victor Rudd is 34 points away from becoming the 18th player to reach 1,000 career points at USF. Now in his third season with the Bulls, Rudd totaled 38 points as a freshman at Arizona State ( ). MASCOT OF THE YEAR USF s mascot, Rocky the Bull, beat out 15 other mascots to win the Capitol One Mascot Challenge. The result was announced at halftime of the Capitol One Bowl on Jan. 1 between Wisconsin and South Carolina. The contest, which occurred during the football season, had fans click vote now to earn a point, complete weekly 25-point challenges or upload photos or videos of themselves doing a cheer in public to accumulate points for their mascot. USF received a $20,000 scholarship toward its mascot program. CLOSE CALLS In December, USF won three consecutive games by two points with a win at George Mason, a win over Alabama and a double-overtime win against FGCU. It was the first time that USF had won three consecutive games by two points or fewer since the season when the Bulls defeated Georgia State on Jan. 4, Jacksonville on Jan. 7 and Maine on Jan. 12. USF then defeated Florida A&M on Dec. 19. It was the first time that USF had won four consecutive games by one possession since the latter half of the season. Then the Bulls defeated New Orleans on Feb. 14, Jacksonville in overtime on Feb. 17, Georgia State on Feb. 19 and at Charlotte on Feb. 23. USF DUNKS Through 17 games, the Bulls have recorded 70 dunks, an average of 4.1 per game. Freshman John Egbunu has led the rim-rattling with 27 dunks (page 6). Nine of Egbunu s dunks have come from an alley-oop pass from junior point guard Anthony Collins. The only game in which USF did not recorded a dunk was on Jan. 4 against Houston. NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Out of all the talented freshmen in college basketball this season, none were better than USF s Chris Perry who was named the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week by CBSSports.com on Dec. 10. The 6-8 forward from nearby Bartow averaged 14.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks to help the Bulls to a couple of two-point wins over George Mason and Alabama. He started with 14 points and 11 rebounds on 5-foor-7 shooting against George Mason, then followed that up with 14 points and 14 rebounds on 6-for-10 shooting against Alabama. WHAT A COMEBACK USF trailed by 17 points, with 12:19 remaining, its largest deficit of the game and led by five points, with 4:57 to play before winning at George Mason on a Corey Allen Jr. fadeway 10-footer along the baseline with 2.5 seconds remaining. That shot was No. 6 on SportsCenter s Top 10. The game featured 18 unanswered points by USF from 11:21 to 6:16 in the second half, part of a 23-1 run from 11:21 to 4:33. helped celebrate the opening of the new on-campus Pam and Les Muma Basketball Center in Two-story, 51,000 sq. foot facility Split floor plan that provides both men s and women s programs their own practice court, locker room, offices, film room and lounge, while offering shared training room and strength and conditioning facilities In June 2011, the USF Board of Trustees approved a $35.6 million major renovation to the 250,000-square-foot Arena including, but not limited to, the complete reconfiguration of the approximately 10,000 seat bowl (to oval bowl seating setting), adding a state-of-the art center hung LED scoreboard, additional concessions and restrooms at the concourse level (by adding a concourse under and throughout the permanent second level seating), modifying and enhancing the southeast and southwest entries, and the restoration of existing exterior concrete amongst other cosmetic improvements. SUN DOME Opened in December 1980, the 30-year old Sun Dome Arena has served as the home venue and facility for the USF men s and women s basketball teams. The multi-purpose venue also has hosted an abundance and variety of other events both internal and external to USF including, but not limited to, commencements, concerts, sports and entertainment events, consumer shows, religious services, conventions, ethnic festivals, rodeos, wrestling, youth sports camps, gymnastics and cheerleading competitions, lectures, and political rallies among other corporate, community and USF events. The project included the creation of a hospitality and viewing club area along the north sideline immediately placed above the lower bowl seating area anticipated for a capacity of ~ patrons depending on configuration and event type. Additionally, the project provided for 10 loge boxes with a total capacity of ~60 seats to be sold by the USF Athletics Department. Basketball loge box holders have the first right of refusal to purchase tickets to other external events (e.g. concerts). The project, which was completed in May 2012, is anticipated to extend the useful life of the Arena for a 30-year time 8
