Leah Secondo and Vera Jones will call the action for the Big Ten Network. Sunday s game will also be aired live on WHCC FM and streamed on IUHoosiers.com with Jeremy Gray on the call. The Buckeyes are currently in first place in the Big Ten with the Hoosiers in a three-way for fourth place with Illinois and Purdue. Ohio State leads the all-time series with Indiana, 44-20, winning the last two meetings between the two teams. LAST TIME OUT Indiana held on in the closing minutes for a win over Michigan in Assembly Hall on Thursday, Jan. 14. Junior Hope Elam led all players matching her career-high with 24 points and grabbing a new career-high of 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Senior Jamie Braun added 17 points and eight rebounds, and junior Whitney Lindsay tallied a career-high 10 assists to go along with nine points and four rebounds. Elam made 10-of-18 from the field and 3-of-5 from the 3-point line for her 24 points, and grabbed seven of her 10 boards on the defensive glass. Braun sank 6-of-13 from the field, including three 3-pointers for her 17 points, while Lindsay made 3-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Indiana shot 39.3 percent on the game from the floor and outrebounded Michigan, THE COACHES IU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack enters her fourth season at the helm of the Hoosiers with a record of and a career mark of In three season, she has led the Hoosiers to 18-plus wins and three consecutive trips to the postseason. Ohio State head coach Jim Foster owns a career record in 32 years coaching a record in his eight season leading the Buckeyes. SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES The No. 5 Buckeyes enter Sunday s game on a 10-game win streak after defeating Illinois, 72-61, in Columbus. Ohio State is led by All-American Jantel Lavender with 21.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Elam sank 10-of-18 from the field and 3-of-5 from the 3-point line, while seven of her 10 boards came off the defensive glass. CHAPLIN EARNS MEDICAL REDSHIRT After missing most of the season with a knee injury suffered against Butler on Dec. 9, Sasha Chaplin has earned her medical hardship waiver and is a redshirt freshman for the remainder of the season. Chaplin is a sophomore academically. STEADY AS SHE GOES Jori Davis has been a steady force for the Hoosiers this season, scoring in double-digit points in 13 of IU s 17 games, with a high of 33 against Virginia on Nov. 26. She leads the Hoosiers on the season with 17.1 points per game and ranks fourth among the Big Ten on the season. In conference games, Davis ranks fourth with 17.5 points per contest. At Penn State on Jan. 10, Davis tallied 25 points, which was the sixth time this season where she s scored 20 points or more in a game. BRAUN KEEPS MOVING UP Jamie Braun entered two significant categories after her performance on Jan. 14 vs. Michigan. Her 17 points raised her career scoring total to 1,421 and her two steals increased her career total to 201. She is seven points from moving into a tie for 10th place on IU s all-time leading scorer list with Quacy Barnes (1,428/ ). She is nine steals from moving up to fourth place on Indiana s all-time steals list. JAMIE BRAUN IN THE IU RECORD BOOKS Career Points:...1,421-11th Career Assists: th Career Steals th ACADEMICALLY STRONG The Indiana women s basketball team surpassed a 3.0 team grade point average for the fall semester with seven of 11 of the Hoosiers receiving a 3.0 GPA or higher and three earning a 3.5 or better, including freshmen Jasmine Davis and Aulani Sinclair, and sophomore Lindsay Enterline. BALANCED ATTACK In 17 games, the Hoosiers bench is averaging 19.0 points per game. Last season, IU s bench averaged 7.9 points per game over 32 games. Indiana s bench as scored 30-plus points four times this season, most recently against Saint Louis. Every Hoosier has made significant contributions in several categories this season with eight of nine averaging double-digit minutes. 4 HOOSIER NOTABLES THOMAS RETURNS TO IU BENCH Four-year letterwinner Whitney Thomas has returned to the IU bench as a student-assistant coach after spending the fall and her fifth season of eligibility with the Indiana volleyball team. Thomas, one of the greatest players in Indiana women s basketball history, became the second player in the program to accumulate more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. She is currently pursuing her master s in Applied Sport Science after receiving her undergraduate degree from IU in Exercise Science in May The Felisha Legette-Jack Show Indiana Athletics has announced The Felisha Legette-Jack Show, on the Big Ten Network. Every installment of The Felisha Legette-Jack Show will feature a lengthy interview with Coach Jack, player profiles and a segment highlighting IU s Phenomenal Women program. NEW FACES Felisha Legette-Jack has announced the signing of point guard Andrea Newbauer and center Marissa Taylor to national letters of intent for the season. Newbauer, a 2009 Indiana Junior All-Star, comes to IU from Concordia Lutheran High School in Ft. Wayne. The 5-9 guard was named to Ft. Wayne s Fab 5 as a junior and earned Second Team Indiana Basketball Coaches Association all-state and All- Northeast Indiana honors. She was named to the First Team All-Summit Athletic Conference as a sophomore and a junior and earned second team honors as a freshman in Newbauer owns a career average of 12.6 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. Taylor, a 6-5 center from Chicago, Ill., helped lead Bolingbrook High School to the Illinois Class 4A state championship in Before playing at Bolingbrook, Taylor was a 2008 Lansing State Journal Dream Team Class B Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore at Waverly High School in Lansing, Mich. She also earned third team ESPNRise.com All-Area Greater Detroit honors and was one of the 20 best players in mid-michigan according to the Lansing State Journal. Jones to Continue Her Career with Indiana Georgie Jones, a 6-2 sophomore center from Marquette University, has signed a scholarship agreement to continue her collegiate career at Indiana University, IU head coach Felisha Legette- Jack announced on Jan. 11. Jones is enrolled at Indiana this semester and will be eligible to play in January Jones appeared in 37 games, starting in 19 at Marquette. Jones averaged 3.5 points and 4.9 rebounds for her career. In six games this season, she was second on the team in rebounds, pulling down 6.3 per game. A native of St. Paul, Minn., Jones was a 2008 Associated Press First Team All-State selection and a finalist for Miss Basketball in the state of Minnesota. She was one of five student-athletes in the state to be awarded a Timberwolves Ten, an award based on basketball skill and community involvement. She was a four-time all-conference selection. As a senior, Jones averaged a double-double with 12.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest. She finished her career at Central High School with 1,376 points, 1,121 rebounds and 341 blocks. He helped Central to back-to-back AAAA State Championships and was named to the AAAA All-Tournament Team. She also earned all-state honors her junior season after averaging 12.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game. In 2007, she helped Central to the AAAA State Championship and an undefeated 32-0 record. INSIDE IU BASKETBALL WITH COACH JACK The Inside IU Basketball with Coach Jack Radio Show can be heard on Hoosier Country WHCC FM in Bloomington beginning at 6:30 p.m. every Monday until the end of the season, except on game days and holidays. Junior Hope Elam scored 13 points and senior Jamie Braun and sophomore Ashlee Mells each netted 11 points in the Hoosiers (1-0) win. With the Tigers (0-1) leading at the 12:34 mark, Davis put in a layup to spark a 21-9 IU run and put the Hoosiers up, 37-26, with 4:05 left in the first half. Freshman Aulani Sinclair scored 15 points and grabbed six boards off the bench and senior Jamie Braun tallied 13 points in the win. The Hoosiers (2-0) were down early as the Jaguars (0-2) opened the game outscoring IU 9-2. However, Indiana used a 10-0 run to take a lead as junior Jori Davis netted two free throws with 11:22 on the clock. IUPUI answered with a layup from Jessica Huffman at the 10:41 mark, but the Hoosiers responded with a 24-5 run in the final 10 minutes to take a lead into the break. The Hoosiers improve to 3-0 with the win. The Hoosiers jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first four and half minutes of the first half only to see the Bearcats (1-1) use an 8-2 run to cut IU s lead to two, The Hoosiers closed out the half outscoring Cincinnati to take a lead into the break. Indiana opened the second half on a 9-6 run to take a 16-point lead, it s largest of the game, 45-29, with 14:23 on the clock. However, Cincinnati built up a run to take a lead with 2:14 left to play. Sophomore Sasha Chaplin sank one of two free throws with 1:57 on the clock to knot the score for a second time in the game. With 1:16 to go, sophomore Andrea McGuirt nailed what would be the game winning 3-pointer, which was followed by a jumper from Elam with just 31 seconds left to add a little cushion for IU. Elam then hit two more free throws with six seconds on the clock as the Hoosiers came away with the win. Elam made 5-of-11 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and added five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Braun sank 5-of-12 from the field, with two 3 s, and tallied five assists and five steals. Senior Jamie Braun led all players with 20 points, while junior Jori Davis netted 14 points off the bench. Sophomore Sasha Chaplin tallied 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and junior Hope Elam scored 11 points in the effort. The Hoosiers (3-1) and Tigers (2-1) battled back and forth for the first three minutes of the game before Mizzou put together a run to take a lead with 10:33 left to play. A pair of free throws from Davis at the 10:20 mark ignited a 22-6 Hoosier run that sent both teams into the break with Indiana leading IU tightened up its defense and forced nine Tiger turnovers in the final 10 minutes of the first stanza to aid in the run. Indiana came out just as aggressive in the second half, outscoring Missouri, 14-7, in the first seven minutes to take a lead with 13:01 to play. However, the Tigers came back and used a 3-pointer from Marissa Scott at the 12:45 mark to start a 7-0 run to cut the Hoosiers lead to two, A pair of free throws by Braun gave IU a four-point edge, 54-50, and started an 8-3 run, but Mizzou answered with a 10-0 run to take a three-point lead, 63-60, with 5:47 left to play. Virginia came back to build up a 13 point lead with 4:33 to play, but the Hoosiers were never out of it as they kept chipping away the lead until 52 seconds were left in the game and Whitney Lindsay sank a 3-pointer to ignite a 14-7 IU run that was capped by a 3-pointer from Davis with no time left to cut Virginia s lead to five, In the first half, Indiana and Virginia fought point-for-point until the 7:33 mark when the Cavaliers used a 23-5 run to take their largest lead, 38-20, with 3:26 remaining. The Hoosiers (4-2) finished in third place in the Thanksgiving holiday tournament. Braun sank 6-of-9 from the field, 5-of-7 from the 3-point line and 7-of-8 from the stripe for 24 points. She added seven rebounds, four on the offensive end, and three assists in 36 minutes off the bench.
