NMU is 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. GVSU is, surprisingly, 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the GLIAC. SERIES HISTORY The Lakers lead the all-time series, dating back to 1975, Recently, Grand Valley has won 10 straight meetings. The last NMU win over Grand Valley was in NMU is 10-7 against the Lakers in Marquette. LAST MEETING The two teams met in Allendale, Mich. in The Lakers were ranked No.1 in the nation and defeated the Cats NMU s lone touchdown came in the third quarter on a rush by John Privitelli. GVSU scored two TDs in the first quarter and added scores in the second and fourth. COACH BERNIE ANDERSON Head coach Bernie Anderson is in his sixth season at NMU. Anderson is at NMU and in his 24 years as a head coach. Anderson is 0-5 against Grand Valley. LAST WEEK S GAME The Wildcats were defeated by the No. 9 Wayne State Warriors, at the Superior Dome. The Cats spotted the Warriors 24 points and mounted a comeback that fell short. NMU outscored its opponent 14-3 in the second half and recovered an onside kick with under a minute to go but was unable to get a first down. GAINES WITH SERIOUS GAINS Redshirt freshmen wide receiver Julian Gaines is averaging 19.5 yards per catch. Three of his 13 receptions have been for touchdowns. He has 253 receiving yards for an average of 50.6 per game. QUARTERBACK Carter Kopach leads the NMU offense with 1050 yards through the air for an average of 212 yards per game. He is 88-for-156 with seven interceptions and 11 touchdowns. He also has 262 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Kopach has 58 touchdowns on his career, including 4,702 passing yards and 825 rushing yards. Opponent OCT. 8: Grand Valley State University SERIES: GVSU leads IN MARQUETTE: 10-7 NMU leads RECORD: 1-3, 2-3 GLIAC COACH: Matt Mitchell RECORD: 13-5 in two seasons 2010 RECORD: 11-2, 9-1 GLIAC GRAND VALLEY Grand Valley State hit the 70-point mark (70-7) for the second straight year vs. Tiffin The Lakers 32 first downs are the most since a 31-first down outing vs. Gannon in 2005 GVSU s 400 passing yards are its most since Brad Iciek threw for 403 yards at Northwood in 2007 Sophomore QB Heath Parling s (Plymouth, Mich./ Salem) five TD passes equalled Brad Iciek s five TD passes at Saginaw Valley State in 2009 Parling has now thrown 3, 4, and 5 TD passes in a game during his first season as a starter. LAST SEASON & PRESEASON PICKS GVSU lost in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoff last season. The Lakers finished the season 11-2 and 9-1 in the GLIAC. The lone conference loss was to Michigan Tech. GVSU was picked first in the GLIAC North by the coaches.

Anderson leads the team with six tackles-for-loss and three sacks. Matt Forward (27), Robert Edmonds (26) and Junior Michel (25) also have over 20 tackles. Anthony Mariettie and Jacob Lehman each have two interceptions. CATS IN THE DOME The Cats are 2-1 in the Superior Dome this season. NMU is 9-4 in it s last 13 games in the Dome. THIS-N-THAT Prince Young leads the Cats rushing attack with 332 yards. NMU has scored first in all games except last week against Wayne State. The NMU offense is 88 percent in the redzone (14-16) and 42 percent on third down conversion. Rockne Belmonte has made 6-of-7 field goals this season. BANDS UNITE The Grand Valley State marching band will make an appearance at the Superior Dome this weekend. The band takes one road trip each year to an opposing university. The GVSU band will perform at halftime on the field before the NMU marching band.
