Bears to Appear on Fox Sports Net The October 27 contest versus North Dakota State at Nottingham Field will be telecast live in two regions of the Fox Sports Network. Kickoff for this game has been moved to 11 am. The Fox Sports Rocky Mountain Region (Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho) and North Region (Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin) will pick up the telecast. The announcing lineup has yet to be released. UNC Blue & Gold Luncheons Every Monday at noon, head coach Kay Dalton, along with all the in-season UNC coaches, will speak at the Blue & Gold Luncheon. Alice Dalton Memorial Scholarship Fund The UNC Foundation has set up Alice Dalton Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Alice Dalton, wife of head coach Kay Dalton, who passed away on August 29. Tradition of Excellence The Northern Colorado football program has certainly been one of the elite programs at the NCAA Division II level since In that time, the Bears have a record of and have made five playoff appearances. UNC won national titles in 1996 and Boyer, Reese Named Captains Senior quarterback Jon Boyer and senior linebacker Justin Reese have been named offensive and defensive captains, respectively, following a team vote. A special team captain will be selected weekly based on performances in the previous week s game. Bears Continue Road Action with Minnesota State, Mankato The Bears will conclude its stretch of three road games in their first four appearances this season when they travel to Mankato, Minnesota to face the Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks. UNC enters the matchup with a record of 2-1 overall and 0-1 in North Central Conference action, while MSU (0-3 overall, 0-1 NCC) is looking for its first win of the season. The Mavericks have dropped games to Minnesota-Duluth (31-28), Northwest Missouri State (36-19) and Augustana (53-23). The Bears opened the season with non-conference victories over Western State (30-19) and Adams State (41-6), before falling this past Saturday at North Dakota (13-7). Following this Saturday s action, the Bears return to Nottingham Field Saturday, Sept. 29 versus Nebraska-Omaha for the first of two consecutive home games.

The Bears tied a Division II record by recording three safeties. The record was set by Fort Valley State vs. Miles on Oct. 16, UNC had a safety in each of the first three quarters of action. The first safety came on a blocked punt by T chaka King. He blocked the punt and it went through the endzone for the safety. UNC s second and third safeties came via bad snaps on punts. Each time punter Ryan Dutton had snaps go over his head. On the first one, Dutton batted the ball through the endzone and on the second one he recovered the ball in the endzone for the two-pointer for the Bears. UNC also shut down the Minnesota State rushing game by holding them to minus-46 yards rushing. Seventy-six of those yards came via bad snaps on punts. The minus-46 yards set a Northern Colorado school record for fewest yards given up on the ground. While the defense was shutting down Minnesota State, the offense was clicking, especially in the first half. Prior to Saturday s game UNC had not scored a first-quarter touchdown. UNC changed that with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter on a 32-yard touchdown pass from junior Jon Boyer to senior running back Kevin Prosser. The touchdown gave the Bears the lead at 9-3 and they would never relinquish it the rest of the way. Before Last Saturday, When Was the Last Time the Bears were held to 50 or less rushing yards in a game? Answer: Nov. 4, yards versus North Dakota State... the UNC offense was held under 200 yards in game? Answer: October 7, yards versus Nebraska-Omaha In the Redzone The Bears have been rather efficient in the redzone this season. UNC has tallied either a touchdown or field goal on seven of nine occasions inside the opponents 20-yard line. Dunn recorded his 15th career sack Saturday against North Dakota to move him into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list. Rohloff also made a touchdown-saving tackle late in the first half when he tracked down UND running back Jed Perkerewicz from across the field. The Fighting Sioux only managed a field goal after Rohloff saved the touchdown. Bears not Home in Dome Saturday s loss marked the third straight for the Bears in a domed stadium. The Bears will play next game in an indoor facility is October 13, when they travel to South Dakota in the DakotaDome. Not only has UNC had trouble in domes, but the Bears have lost five of their last six games on artificial turf. Kelemeni Scores First TD of Career Junior fullback J.R. Kelemeni scored the first touchdown of his career when he grabbed a one-yard pass from quarterback Jon Boyer late in Saturday s game at North Dakota. The reception was Kelemeni s third of his career and his first touchdown.
