With UT s victory over TCU on Feb. 2, the Horned Frogs became the fifth program that Texas has defeated 100 or more times in school history. Texas is seeking its first road win of the season (0-7). College GameDay: Saturday s contest in Lawrence was apart of ESPN s College GameDay Driven by State Farm. It marked the seventh appearance by the Longhorns on the popular weekly program since it debuted during the season. The last time Texas was featured in the series came on March 5, 2011 at Baylor (60-54 win by Texas). Series: Kansas now leads the all-time seri es with Texas, Texas is 1-11 on the road against Kansas. Starters: Myck Kabongo, Demarcus Holland, Ioannis Papapetrou, Jonathan Holmes and Connor Lammert started on Saturday. It is the second time this starting lineup has been used this season (1-1 record). Texas has had 10 different starting lineups in 25 games. In his first game of the season, Kabongo recorded 13 points (5-10 FG) with seven assists and four rebounds in 35 minutes, before fouling out in the first overtime period. Kabongo led UT in scoring with 13 points on 9-of-10 shooting at the FT line at Kansas (2/16). Kabongo was one of five players named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team this fall. Among the league s returning players entering the season, he had the third-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.73-to-1). THE KABONGO SITUATION Sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo served a 23- game suspension (two-thirds of season), according to the appeal decision on Dec. 21 by the NCAA Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. Per the NCAA release, Kabongo accepted airfare, personal training instruction and then provided false and misleading information during two separate interviews with university officials. TOPS IN NCAA FG DEFENSE Through Feb. 14, Texas ranks second in the nation in FG percentage defense (.361) and first in 3-point FG percentage defense (.261). Texas is holding its opponents to an average of 63.8 points per game this season and have held 17-of-25 opponents to under 40.0 percent FG shooting. Texas is in the Barnes era when holding opponents to under 40 percent field goal shooting, including a 10-8 mark this season. Since Barnes arrived in Austin, the Horns have held 239 of their 492 opponents to under 40 percent FG shooting. Three of UT s opponents have shot under 30 percent -- Coppin State (.246), Sam Houston State (.210) and UT Arlington (.295). On Feb. 13, Iowa State was held to a conference season-low 35.0 percent shooting. TCU was held to 32.7 percent shooting on Feb. 2. West Virginia s 30.6 percent shooting on Jan. 9 was the lowest allowed by a conference opponent since Nebraska shot 28.1 percent (2/13/10). 5 On Wednesday vs. Iowa State, Myck Kabongo and Connor Lammert started for the first time this season, respectively. Jonathan Holmes has started in every game he has played in this season (20). Holmes missed five games due to a broken bone in his right hand incurred at Oklahoma (1/21). BLOCKS ADDING UP Texas ranks second in the Big 12 in blocked shots (5.1 bpg) UT has posted a 127-to-81 advantage in blocked shots against its opponents. The highest blocks per game average during the Rick Barnes era is 5.8 in the season. Texas out-blocked Iowa State 8-to-2 on Feb. 13, including a career-high three from Connor Lammert. UT out-blocked TCU 7-to-1 on Feb. 2. Only four opponents have recorded more blocks in a game than Texas -- Georgetown (-1 margin), North Carolina (-2), Kansas (-5, -2) and Oklahoma (-3) UT recorded a team season-high 12 blocks against Mississippi State (11/21). The 12 blocks were one shy of the single-game school record (13 vs. UTSA on Dec. 29, 2004 and vs. Cal on Nov. 15, 2000). Texas had seven blocks in the first half against Mississippi State. This was just two shy of the school record for most blocked shots in a half (9 in second half vs. Kansas State on Feb. 3, 2007). 747-GAME THREE-POINT STREAK Texas enters Tuesday s contest having hit at least one 3-pointer in 747 consecutive games. The last time Texas did not convert a 3-pointer in a contest came on Dec. 18, 1990, in an overtime victory at UC-Santa Barbara. The Horns were 0-of-2 from beyond the arc on that day. UT has converted at least one three in 863 of 869 games since the trey was introduced prior to the season. The Horns have failed to attempt at least one 3-pointer just one time in school history (Feb. 24, 1988; at TCU, win). PAPI ON A HOT STREAK Freshman forward Ioannis Papi Papapetrou is averaging 11.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg over the last 10 contests. Papi grabbed four rebounds and scoring four points in 27 minutes at KU (2/16). Papapetrou made a last-second 3-pointer against Iowa State (2/13) to force overtime. He finished with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting with eight rebounds against the Cyclones. Papapetrou led his team in all major categories against Oklahoma State (2/11) -- points (15), rebounds (seven), steals (four), blocks (two), assists (four) and minutes (37). 13 of his 25 total 3-point FGs have come in the last 10 games. Overall, Papapetrou leads the team in 3-point FG percentage (.367), ranks fourth in scoring (8.2 ppg), second in rebounding (4.6 rpg) and third in blocked shots (18). Scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 2-of- 3 from beyond the arc, at West Virginia (2/4). Scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with nine Game 26 at TCU rebounds in 34 minutes against TCU (2/2). Against Texas Tech (1/26), he scored 15 points with two 3-pointers in 25 minutes. Notched a career-high five assists with no turnovers and tied a career-high two steals. Also recorded his first career dunk on the way to his seventh double-figure scoring game of the season. He moved with his family to Amarillo, Texas at age five and lived there until he was 10 years old. The family then moved to Dallas when Prince was 10. His parents (Francis and Charity) lived in Mbaise, Nigeria before moving to London in Prince s middle name is Chinenye (pronounced KEN-yay). The name in Nigerian means god s gift. Prince has three older brothers and one younger sister. Myck Kabongo is the second-youngest among six children. He was born in Lumbaschi, Congo. Kabongo spent his first three years in Congo Republic and then lived in Capetown, South Africa from age 3 to 6. His family moved to Toronto when Kabongo was six years old. Connor Lammert has an older brother, Clark, who is a sophomore on the basketball team at Texas Tech.
