Oklahoma would advance to play No. 1/1 Kansas for the second time in an 11-day stretch. The Sooners and Jayhawks would face off in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT inside Sprint Center, airing on ESPN2. Oklahoma and Kansas have met 212 previous times - the second most contests against any opponent in Oklahoma history. The Sooners have only faced Oklahoma State (233 games) more times than the Jayhawks. Kansas leads the overall series, The Jayhawks are the only Big 12 team to own a winning all-time record against the Sooners. KU is 21-8 against the Sooners at a neutral site. The Sooners and Jayhawks haven t met in the Big 12 Championship since Oklahoma is 2-2 against KU in the Big 12 Championship and 2-1 when played in Kansas City. OU is 4-7 all-time against Kansas when combining its record in the Big 12 Championship and Big Eight Tournament. BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP QUICK HITS Oklahoma opens Big 12 Championship play as the ninth seed its lowest seeding in the Lon Kruger era. The Sooners look to make history, as a team seeded outside the top four has never won the Big 12 Championship title in the event s 20 years. Low seeds have made runs before, as Baylor advanced to the title game as a nine seed in 2009 and 10th-seeded Missouri reached the finals in OU won postseason Big 12 Championship titles in 2001, 2002 and OU s three titles rank second in the conference behind only Kansas eight. The Sooners have made five Big 12 Championship title game appearances in the event s 20 years. OU s 10 consecutive league tournament game victories ( ) are tied with Kansas for the most in event history. The Sooners are all-time in the Big 12 Championship. Oklahoma boasts the second-best winning percentage (.564) in Big 12 Championship play among the conference s current 10 teams. Only Kansas (.804) owns a better all-time winning percentage in the annual tournament. Recent trends favor the Sooners in the opening round. In the past 10 Big 12 Championships, the No. 9 seed has gone 8-2 against the No. 8 seed. The Sooners have won their first game in two straight Big 12 Championships, topping Iowa State in 2016 and Oklahoma State in Both wins came in the quarterfinals. Oklahoma has played in the first round of the four-round tournament on six occasions, going 4-2 in those games. PHENOMENAL FRESHMEN The freshman duo of guard Kameron McGusty and forward Kristian Doolittle have had some of the most successful rookie campaigns in recent OU history. The two combined to average 24.3 points per game in Big 12 play. McGusty s 14.4 points per game in Big 12 games was third among freshmen in the conference while Doolittle averaged 9.9 points and 6.9 rebounds in conference competition (third among Big 12 underclassmen, eighth overall). On Sunday, McGusty was named an All-Big 12 honorable mention and member of the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. The conference honors make McGusty the most decorated Sooner freshman of the Kruger era. He is the first OU freshman to earn All-Big 12 honors and All-Newcomer status since Tommy Mason-Griffin in A 6-5 guard from Katy, Texas, McGusty scored in double figures in all but two Big 12 contests, including a streak of 15 consecutive games of double-digit scoring from Jan. 3 through Feb. 21. McGusty s streak was the longest by any Big 12 freshman this season and the longest by an OU freshman since Jeff Webster (22 games) in Freshman guard Jordan Shepherd has chipped in 3.6 points, 1.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds. Among basketball power six schools (ACC, BigEAST, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, Pac 12), Oklahoma ranks 14th in freshmen scoring (26.1 points per game) and 10th in freshmen minutes played (72.6 per game). Oklahoma has seen potential from all four of its scholarship freshmen as the youngest Sooners have combined to produce 28 games of double-digit scoring - most recently a 22-point showing from McGusty (March 4 vs. 3

Oklahoma has seen its freshmen and sophomores play a large role for the Sooners this season. The Sooners 11 underclassmen are the most of any Big 12 roster this season while OU s seven freshmen is the second most in the conference. The young Sooners have received ample experience in Big 12 contests. OU freshmen have played a total of 1,407 minutes (second most in Big 12), averaging a combined 28.4 points per game and contributing 40.4 percent of OU s scoring in Big 12 play - the second-highest percentage in the conference. Sooner underclassmen rank second in the Big 12 in total minutes played in conference competition (2,715) and have scored 74.4 percent of Oklahoma s points in league play (second in Big 12). Among basketball power six schools, Oklahoma ranks 16th in underclassmen scoring (51.8) and 10th in underclassmen minutes played (145.5). RASHARD RISING No returning Big 12 player has seen a bigger increase in role than Oklahoma sophomore guard Rashard Odomes. After playing just 6.1 minutes per game in 18 contests last year, Odomes is averaging 27.0 minutes per game and has started in 29 games. His increase in minutes (20.9 per game) is by far the most in the Big 12. No other Big 12 returner is averaging more than 16 additional minutes per game compared to their previous season. Offensively, Odomes averaged 1.9 points per game in and is scoring 10.3 points a night in He is the only returning Big 12 player to average under two points last season and over 10 points in His increase in scoring (8.4 points per game) is the second-highest among any Big 12 returner. Tallying just 35 total points in (1.9 per game), Odomes has already scored over eight times his points total with 300 this season (averaging 10.3 per game). Odomes, who totaled just 17 minutes in Big 12 games last season, has scored in double figures in nine of his last 15 conference games and averaged 10.4 points on.492 percent shooting with 5.2 rebounds in Big 12 play this year. He scored a career-high 29 points on Feb. 18 at Oklahoma State. LATTIN BLOCK PARTY For the second season in a row, junior forward Khadeem Lattin led the Big 12 in blocked shots per game during conference play. Lattin rejected 43 shots against Big 12 opponents (2.4 per game), tying for first in the league with Vladimir Brodziansky of TCU. He is the fourth Big 12 player to lead the league in blocks during conference play in back-to-back seasons. Lattin has already proven himself as one of the top shot blockers in Oklahoma program history. In 101 career games for the Sooners, Lattin ranks fourth in the OU record book in career blocks with 172. With 64 total blocks this season, Lattin joins Stacey King and Wayman Tisdale as the only Sooners to produce multiple seasons of more than 60 blocked shots. Lattin is registering 59 blocks in 30 games this season. The big man has produced seven games of four or more blocked shots this season, including a season-high six blocks against Oklahoma State on Jan. 30. He s also tallied 35 steals this season, compared to his total of 32 in 36 games last season. KRUGER KEEPS BUILDING On Feb. 25, Lon Kruger became the 33rd head coach to win 600 NCAA Division I games. With 601 career wins, Kruger ranks 10th in victories among active Division I coaches. In the two seasons before his hiring, the Sooners went (.429) capped by a 10th-place finish in the Big 12 in Since being brought on in 2011, Kruger has led the program to a (.615) record, including a (.640) mark over the past five seasons. The squad finished with a 29-8 record and made a trip to the Final Four. Before his arrival at OU, the Sooners had previously not been to the postseason since 2009 when they advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. In five full seasons at Oklahoma, Kruger has produced four NCAA Tournament appearances, three top-three finishes in the Big 12, a national player of the year in Buddy Hield and a trip to the 2016 Final Four. Oklahoma has used a balanced scoring effort in the six games without Woodard, as eight Sooners are averaging over five points during that stretch. The Sooners have gone 3-3 since the injury and are being led in scoring by Odomes (13.0 points per game in the stretch), McGusty (12.8) and Doolittle (10.5). BENCH SUCCESS: OU continues to show its depth in conference play. In Big 12 games, Oklahoma boasted 23.2 bench points per game in league competition - the second most in the conference. The Sooners were one of only two Big 12 squads to average over 20 bench points in league games. u TRIAL THROUGH FIRE: ESPN s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) ranks the Sooners strength of schedule as the toughest in the nation. This season, OU has faced seven teams in the current AP Top 25 - No. 1 Kansas (twice), No. 9 Baylor (twice), No. 11 West Virginia (twice), No. 17 Florida, No. 20 Wichita State, No. 23 Iowa State (twice) and No. 24 Wisconsin. LATTIN NAMED TO OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE: Sooner forward Khadeem Lattin was recently named to the NCAA Division I Men s Basketball Oversight Committee. One of two student-athletes on the 16-person committee, Lattin will serve as a non-voting member in a two-year term that begins immediately. The Men s Basketball Oversight Committee ensures that appropriate oversight of men s basketball is maintained, enhances the development and public perception of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason men s basketball. The committee is tasked with prioritizing enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes personal growth and leadership 5
