Clemson has defeated Virginia Tech 23-3 this season. This is Clemson s fourth straight week in the top 11 of the BCS standings. The most weeks Clemson has appeared in the BCS rankings in one season is six, set in That year Clemson finished 15th in the BCS. Clemson s BCS Ranking History Date Rank Last Year vs. Wake Forest Clemson 30, Wake Forest 10 November 20, 2010 at Winston-Salem, NC Kyle Parker was passing for 194 yards and two touchdowns to lead Clemson to a win over Wake Forest at BB&T Field on November 20. It was the Tigers largest victory margin at Wake Forest since 1978 and made Clemson bowl eligible for the 12th year in a row. Field goals of 43 yards and 22 yards by Chandler Catanzaro put Clemson up by a score of 6-0. Then with 46 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Parker connected with Jaron Brown for a 40-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers a 13-0 halftime lead. The Tigers built a 20-0 lead in the third quarter when DeAndre Hopkins caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Parker. Through three quarters, the Tiger defense allowed no points and only 97 yards. In the fourth quarter, Catanzaro, who was 3-3 on field-goal attempts in the game, made a 32-yard field goal. After a 45-yard field goal by Jimmy Newman put Wake Forest on the scoreboard, Jamie Harper rushed 63 yards on the next snap to give Clemson a 30-3 lead. Wake Forest mustered an 11-play, 79-yard drive, capped by Josh Harris one-yard touchdown run, to cut the Tiger lead to with 6:02 left in the game. But Clemson held onto the ball for the rest of the game to close out the 20-point win. All 10 Demon Deacon points and a majority of their yards came in the fourth quarter against Clemson s defense that predominately featured second and third-team players. Clemson vs. Wake Forest Series Clemson owns 58 wins over Wake Forest in history, its second highest victory total over any opponent. Clemson has 65 wins over South Carolina. Forty-eight of those wins against Wake Forest have taken place since the Memorial Stadium ACC was formed in Clemson is 34-7 against Wake Forest in games played in Clemson and is 29-7 in Death Valley in the series that dates to a13-0 Clemson win in Charlotte in Clemson won last year at Wake Forest and 38-3 the previous year (2009) at Clemson. Wake Forest s last win was by a 12-7 margin in 2008 in Tommy Bowden s last game as Clemson head coach. Wake Forest Coach Jim Grobe has a 3-7 record against Clemson in his 10 previous years at Wake Forest. All three of the wins have taken place at Wake Forest. He is 0-4 in Death Valley and Wake Forest has not won at Clemson since 1998 when Jim Caldwell (now with the Indianapolis Colts) coached the Demon Deacons to a win. Wake Forest has won just twice at Clemson since 1962 and Caldwell won both games. He also defeated Clemson in 1993, Ken Hatfield s last year as Clemson coach. This will be Dabo Swinney s third game as Clemson head coach against Wake Forest. He is 2-0 as a head coach, but the Tigers were 3-3 against Wake Forest in the previous six games when he was an assistant. Clemson won the 2006 game at Wake Forest, The late Gaines Adams had a game changing 66-yard fumble return on a botched field goal attempt in the fourth quarter to cut the Demon Deacons lead to The Tigers scored 24 points in the fourth period to gain the victory. C.J. Spiller had a 72-yard run in that game. Wake Forest went on to win the ACC Championship that year. Clemson played at Wake Forest three times in a four-year period from Clemson was 1-2 at Wake Forest during that time. The Deacs won in 2003 against a Clemson team that finished the year 9-4 and ranked in the top 25 in the nation. Clemson won four in a row after that game and Wake Forest lost its last three games. Wake Forest also won in 2005 at Winston-Salem. Clemson has a edge in the series since 1953 or since the formation of the ACC, a.836 winning percentage. Clemson has played Wake Forest in football 58 consecutive years, as the last year the two schools did not play was The two schools are in the same division, so they will continue to play annually. Clemson has a lead in the series in games played at Wake Forest, including in games played at Groves Stadium. Only one coach in history won as many as four games against Clemson without a loss in Death Valley and the coach was from Wake Forest. Frank Howard and Peahead Walker had a close friendship, but Peahead had a 4-0 record against Howard in Death Valley. Walker fielded some tough teams, but lost five in a row to the Tigers ( ),including his first two outings against Frank Howard, 39-0 and 29-0, after Neely s departure to Rice in Peahead s response was to win six in a row against Howard ( ), knocking #16-ranked Clemson out of a likely AP top 20 finish in 1945 with a season-ending 13-6 victory. Even if Peahead conceded that three of his wins ( ) were during Howard s depleted war years, he still held a 3-2 edge over his soonto-be comedic partner on the gridiron speaking circuit. In the final three years of the Howard- Walker rivalry ( ), both the Tigers and Deacons were at their strongest. In going undefeated in both 1948 and 1950, Clemson Clemson Tiger Football 2

At Clemson in 1949, Wake decisively defeated the home team, 35-21, which means the Howard-Peahead rivalry ended in a 4-4 tie if one disregards the war years. Howard was against the Deacons after Peahead s departure ( ). Clemson had a 7-3 record against Wake Forest under Tommy Bowden, but five of the seven Clemson wins were decided by 10 points or less. The two teams have played at three neutral sites games over the years, including Tokyo, Japan. Clemson won that game in 1982 by a score to close out an ACC Championship season. Clemson defeated a Wake Forest team coached by current Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Al Groh on Halloween Day 1981 by an score. That is the highest scoring game in ACC history involving two league teams. Clemson was on third down in that game, a school record. The Tigers went on to win the national championship that season. Most Wins by Clemson vs. Opponents Opponent Record South Carolina Wake Forest NC State Furman Virginia Duke North Carolina Clemson vs. Wake Forest Should Decide Atlantic Division Saturday s game between Clemson and Wake Forest should decide the 2011 Atlantic Division championship. Clemson will be looking for its second Atlantic Division title and ACC title game appearance in the last three years. Wake Forest last played in the title game in 2006 when it won the ACC title. A victory for the Tigers will clinch the title, while Wake Forest would still have some work to do even with a win over Clemson, but the Deacs would have the tie breaker over Clemson if both teams finish with the same record. Clemson has not won an ACC Championship since 1991 when a defense led by future NFL players Levon Kirkland, Chester McGlockton and Brentson Buckner, led the nation in rushing defense. The Tigers were in the regular season that year and had a record in the ACC, good enough for the league championship. Clemson has more ACC Championships than any other school with 13 titles. Clemson also won the Southern Conference in 1940 and 1948, and the SIAA in 1900 and 1902, giving the program 17 conference championships. John Heisman coached Clemson to the SIAA titles. Clemson can not clinch an ACC championship by defeating Wake Forest, but it can clinch the Division title and advance to the ACC Championship game. Six times previously Clemson has celebrated an ACC Championship or a division title with a win at Clemson. Dabo Swinney s Tigers have already beaten six foes at home this year by a combined score of , or an average score of Clemson has scored at least 35 points in every home game and has averaged yards per game at home. Clemson has scored 31 touchdowns in those games and had at least one touchdown rushing and at least one passing in every game. If Clemson gains victory Saturday it would be the first perfect home season for Clemson since 1990 when the Tigers were 6-0 in Death Valley. Clemson was at home in 1991, the last time Clemson won the ACC Championship, but a tie with Virginia keeps it from a perfect home slate. A win Saturday would also make this just the second time Clemson has won seven home games in a season. Clemson was 7-1 at home in But, a victory Saturday would give the Tigers the first 7-0 home record in history. Given a minimum of five games Clemson has had a perfect home record six times: 1958 (5-0), 1960 (5-0), 1974 (6-0), 1978 (6-0), 1981 (6-0), and 1990 (6-0). He even has a career record in his pocket just nine games into his career. At Georgia Tech, Watkins had nine receptions for 153 yards, his third game with at least 150 receiving yards. Believe it or not, he already has the Clemson career record for receiving games of at least 150 yards. Perry Tuttle and Aaron Kelly, two of Clemson s all-time greats, had the previous record with two. Watkins needs two touchdown receptions to break Kelly s single season record of 11 touchdown receptions in Watkins is also just 112 receiving yards short of Rod Gardner s record of 1084 yards in Just 28 receiving yards will make Watkins just the fourth different player to reach 1000 receiving yards in a season. Memorial Stadium Tigers Candidates for Awards Clemson has four players listed as semifinalists for major awards and there could be more honors forthcoming. Dwayne Allen, Tajh Boyd, Chandler Catanzaro and Dawson Zimmerman are all named on lists for at least the top 20 for position awards. Allen is one of 16 semifinalists for the John Mackey Award. The junior has 38 receptions for 470 yards and five touchdowns so far this year. He needs just six receptions to break former teammate Michael Palmer s record for receptions by a tight end in a season. Allen also needs just 38 receiving yards to break Palmer s record for that category. His five touchdown receptions are two short of Bennie Cunningham s record of seven in Boyd is one of 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the top all-around college football player. Boyd has completed 195 of 318 passes for 2674 yards and 25 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He has a pass efficiency rating, a mark that would be best in Clemson history for a season given a minimum of 100 attempts. Boyd needs just three touchdown passes to break the single season record of 27 held by Cullen Harper in He has been named the Manning National Quarterback of the Week four times this year. Catanzaro is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award. The sophomore kicker has made field goals this year for a 77.8 percentage. That includes 5-8 on field goals over 40 yards. Catanzaro was named the Lou Groza Kicker of the Week against Boston College when he was 5-5. Zimmerman is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe s Senior Class Award, an honor presented to the top senior player in the nation for excellence on the field and in the classroom. Zimmerman has a 42.3 average with 13 punts inside the 20, and has a net punting average of 39.0 The native of Georgia has a 3.93 career GPA in English. Watkins Leads Freshmen Nationally in Four Areas Clemson freshman receiver Sammy Watkins leads the nation s freshmen in four areas. He has more receptions per game (7.0), more reception yards (108.7), more touchdown receptions (10), and more allpurpose yards per game (186.8) than any other freshmen nationally. In fact, Watkins has three more touchdown catches than any other freshman. The second most is seven by Marquise Lee of Southern California. Rashad Greene of Florida State and De Anthony Thomas of Oregon have six apiece. Clemson ACC Leaders Four Clemson players are leading or at least tied for the ACC lead in an individual statistical category. Sammy Watkins has the ACC lead in three categories, Tajh Boyd in three areas and Andre Branch and Rashard Hall one apiece. Clemson also has the ACC lead in three categories on offense and one team area. Clemson has the ACC lead in scoring and passing offense and is just one yard per game behind Georgia Tech in terms of total offense per game. Clemson has not led the ACC in scoring, total offense and passing offense in the same season since Clemson ACC Leaders Sammy Watkins Receptions per game (7.0) TD Receptions (10) All-Purpose yards/game (186.1) Tajh Boyd Passing Yards/Game (297.1) Touchdown passes (25) Total Offense yards/game (315.3) Andre Branch Sacks/game (0.94), 8.5 in 9 games Rashard Hall Fumble recoveries (2) Clemson Team Scoring Offense, 38.0 Passing Offense, First Downs/Game, 23.2 Opponent Penalty yardage, 54.4 Branch Has 8.5 Sacks Clemson defensive end Andre Branch leads the ACC in sacks per game. He has 8.5 in his nine games for 0.94 per contest, a figure that ranks among the top 10 in the nation. He also ranks third in the ACC in tackles for loss per game. Branch ranks second on the Clemson team in tackles with 57 in the nine games. He is just one tackle behind Tig Willard. Branch is attempting to be the first defensive lineman to lead Clemson in tackles over a season since 1984 when William Perry led the team with exactly 100 tackles. Perry is the only Clemson defensive lineman on record to lead the team in tackles. Walker Sets Play Record Clemson senior offensive tackle Landon Walker has played more snaps as an offensive tackle than any other player in school history. The native of North Carolina who is the son of a member of Clemson s 1981 National Championship team has played 2791 plays on offense in his career. He went ahead of current Kansas City Chiefs starting tackle Barry Richardson in the Georgia Tech game. Richardson played 2778 snaps in his career between Walker has played 693 snaps so far this year and is on pace to become just the third Clemson player in history to go over 3000 career snaps. Kyle Young holds the record with 3097 snaps played between and Glenn Rountree is second with Walker needs 209 to reach the 3000 mark. Given a minimum of four games left, Walker would have to average only 52 plays per game the rest of the season to reach He would have to average 76 snaps per game to break Young s overall record. Of course, if Clemson can get into the ACC Championship game, that would give Walker an easier goal. If Clemson plays five more games he would have to average just 61 plays per game to break Young s mark Clemson Tiger Football 5

6 Clemson vs. Wake Forest Walker has 44 career starts, more than any other active player. If Walker starts each of the last four games, he would reach 48 starts, which would be an all-time Clemson record. He has appeared in 52 games, 19 as a starter over his career that dates to the 2007 season. Diehl played in three games as a true freshman in 2007 before suffering an injury against Fordham that ended his season. Diehl has played in all 48 games for the Tigers since the beginning of the 2008 season, including nine this year. When he plays on Saturday he will tie, Kevin Alexander ( ), Crezdon Butler ( ), Chris Chancellor ( ), Kavell Connor ( ), Marcus Gilchrist ( ), DeAndre McDaniel ( ), and Michael Wade ( ). If Clemson reaches the ACC Championship game, Diehl could finish his career with 57 games played, a mark that will be hard to break. Clemson Has Veteran Offensive Line One of the reasons for Clemson s strong production in terms of offense this year has been the play of its veteran offensive line. The Tigers have three current starters who have played over 2000 career snaps. Landon Walker leads the way with 2791, fifth on the all-time Clemson list. Senior Antoine McClain has played 2118 snaps and junior center Dalton Freeman has played 2051 offensive snaps. All three have started all nine games this year. In terms of starts, Walker has 44, McClain has 36 and Freeman has 31. As far as the other players on the starting offensive line, Philip Price has 38 games played and 10 starts, while sophomore Brandon Thomas has six starts and 18 games played. Clemson s starting offensive line has 127 career starts entering the Wake Forest game. Seniors David Smith and Mason Cloy have also been starters over their respective careers. Cloy has 20 starts under his belt and Smith has 16. That means offensive linemen on the Clemson roster have 163 starts. This is the eighth consecutive week Clemson has been ranked in the top 25, the longest streak for the program since the seasons. Clemson was ranked in all 17 polls in 2000, then was ranked in the first 11 polls of 2001 for 28 consecutive rankings in the AP or USA Today polls Clemson entered both polls after defeating Auburn on September 17. Clemson was ranked 21st in AP and 22nd in USA Today after that victory, then moved up to 13 in AP and 15 in USA Today after the win over Florida State. The Tigers then entered the top 10 at eighth place after a 23-3 win over 10th ranked Virginia Tech on the road on October 1. Clemson reached a high of sixth in the nation in both polls after and eighth straight win to start the season over North Carolina. Clemson is ninth in AP and 10 th in USA Today this week. Memorial Stadium The ACC s Top Two Receivers Each of the top two receivers in the ACC will be at Death Valley this Saturday. Clemson s Sammy Watkins leads the ACC in receptions per game with 63 in nine games, for a 7.0 average, while Wake Forest s Chris Givens leads the ACC in reception yards per game with yards per game. Givens is second to Watkins in receptions per game and Watkins is second to Givens in reception yards per game. In fact, Givens and Watkins are separated by just 13 total yards in the same amount of games and both should go over 1000 yards for the season on Saturday. Givens enters Saturday s game with 985 receiving yards and Watkins has 972. Both are ranked in the top 11 in the nation in reception yards per game, as Givens is 10th and Watkins is 11th. Watkins has the upper hand in terms of touchdown receptions with 10, while Givens has eight. Watkins has broken the Clemson record for being honored by the league in one season. Anthony Simmons, freshman linebacker in 1995 who was named National Rookie of the year by UPI, was named ACC Rookie of the Week four times and defensive lineman of the Week twice for six total honors. Watkins has already been named ACC Rookie of the Week in Clemson wins over Wofford, Auburn, Boston College and Maryland, and he was named ACC Receiver of the Week for his performances against Auburn, Florida State and Maryland. As you can see he was honored twice for the Maryland and Auburn games. As stated above, Watkins has been named ACC Receiver of the Week three times this year. He has ready been named ACC Player of the Week more than any other receiver in Clemson history in one season and tied the career record. Perry Tuttle also was named ACC Player of the Week three times as a receiver between (It should be noted that the ACC now picks a Receiver of the Week, something it only started doing. Tuttle and others had to compete against quarterbacks and running backs). Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd has been named ACC Back of the Week three times this year, Clemson wins over Auburn, Florida State and North Carolina. Boyd has tied the Clemson record for ACC Player of the Week selections by a quarterback, as Woody Dantzler was named three times in Dantzler was named ACC Player of the Week six times in his career between , second most in school history. Freeman s dad is currently a high school coach in Freeman s home town of Pelion, SC. Dalton Freeman has a 2-0 record over his dad s school, Clemson victories of 38-3 and over the last two years, respectively. Both Teams with a TE Named Ford There are some similarities between Clemson and Wake Forest. Both have outstanding sophomore quarterbacks, both have outstanding receivers, and both have second team tight ends named Ford. Clemson s Brandon Ford has four receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown, while Wake Forest senior Cameron Ford has eight catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Wake Forest s Cameron Ford is actually from a city closer to Clemson than Clemson s Brandon Ford. Cameron Ford is from Anderson, SC and nearby Hannah High School. Brandon Ford is from Wando, SC and Hanahan, SC. Thomas Scores TD and Caught Pass Clemson starting offensive lineman Brandon Thomas scored a touchdown at Georgia Tech when he recovered a Tajh Boyd fumble in the endzone. He was credited with a rushing touchdown on the play, but gets no rushing yards since he recovered the ball in the endzone. Thomas became the first Clemson offensive lineman to score a touchdown since 1966 when All-American guard Harry Olszewski scored when he recovered a fumble in mid-air and raced 12 yards for a score against South Carolina. Clemson won that game 35-10, giving the Tigers the ACC Championship. Thomas also has a reception this year on a tipped pass and is the only Clemson offensive lineman in history with a rushing touchdown and a pass reception in the same year. Allen Seventh in TD Receptions by Tight Ends Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen is having an outstanding year with 38 receptions for 470 yards and five touchdowns through nine games. He is approaching the Clemson tight ends records in many areas, including touchdowns. Bennie Cunningham has the record with seven in Allen s five TD receptions this year rank in a tie for seventh in the nation. The calendar year 2008 was a big year for both, as Immelman won the Masters and Swinney became Clemson s head coach. Swinney has recruited Immelman to be a Clemson fan and Swinney follows Immelman s scores on the PGA Tour at least in the spring and summer. Earlier this year on consecutive Saturdays they had uncommon success and had similar numbers to celebrate. In Clemson s wins over Maryland and North Carolina the Tiger point totals were just a touchdown short of Immelman s golf scores on the PGA Tour. On Saturday, October 15, Immelman shot a 62 at the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, GA, the same day Swinney s Tigers put 56 on the board in a win at Maryland. The following Saturday, Clemson scored 59 in a victory over North Carolina, while Immelman shot a third round 66 at the Chil- Memorial Stadium dren s Miracle Network Classic in Orlando. After the North Carolina game Swinney sent Immelman a text, Wish we could have matched your 66. Immelman replied, I would have liked your 59! The fall has been going well for both and even those numbers are similar. The Tigers were ranked fifth in the October 23 BCS poll and sixth by AP and USA Today. Immelman finished fifth at the McGladrey Classic and sixth at the Children s Miracle Network Classic to comfortably the clinch his PGA Tour card for next year. Five Tigers on Midseason All-America Teams Clemson had five different players named to first or second-team midseason All-America teams in October. Tight end Dwayne Allen and defensive end Andre Branch were named to all four teams announced by major services. Allen was named first-team midseason All-American by CB- Sportsline and ESPN.com was a second team selection by Phil Steele and si.com. Branch was named second team by all four. Freshman Sammy Watkins was named first-team by si.com and second-team by CBSportsline.com. Defensive tackle Brandon Thompson made second team by CBSportsline, Phil Steele and ESPN.com, while kicker Chandler Catanzaro was first-team by ESPN.com and honorable mention by Phil Steele Consecutive Games with 50 Points or More Clemson scored at least 56 points in consecutive games in October, the first time that has happened in school history. This is the first time Clemson has scored at least half a hundred in consecutive ACC games and the first time against anyone since 2006 when Clemson had consecutive 50 point games in wins over North Carolina and Louisiana Tech. Dabo Swinney s Tigers beat Maryland on October 15, then defeated North Carolina on October 22. Clemson became just the third ACC team in history with consecutive games of at least 56 points, the first to do it since Virginia accomplished the feat in 1990 and Florida State did it in Tigers Won First Eight Games Clemson won its first eight games this year, just the fourth time in school history that has happened, the first time since That year Clemson s streak ended with a loss at Clemson to Georgia Tech, Saturday s opponent. The Clemson record for consecutive wins is 15 set between under Frank Howard. Clemson won its last three games of 1947, then went 11-0 in The Tigers won the opener against Presbyterian in 1949, but h streak was snapped the next week with a loss to Rice against former Clemson Coach Jess Neely. Allen has had at least four catches in each of the last six games, including the win over Auburn when he had seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. Allen was also named first-team Midseason All- American by ESPN.com and was a second-team selection by three other services. Koutnei Brown Has Career Day Clemson graduate student Kourtnei Brown had the game of his life in the Tigers victory over North Carolina on October 22. The native of Charlotte, NC had two defensive returns for touchdowns, the first time a Clemson player had two defensive returns for scores since First, Brown had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second period, then had a 26-yard fumble return for another score Clemson Tiger Football 7

8 Clemson vs. Wake Forest in the third period. His first touchdown put the Tigers ahead 24-10, a big turning point in the game. Brown was the first Tiger to have two defensive scores in the same game since 1954 when Walt Larraway scored on an interception return and a blocked punt against The Citadel. Larraway played both ways and on special teams in those days, a true 60-minute man. Brown was named the Walter Camp Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week and the National Defensive Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his efforts against the Tar Heels. Brown was also just the third player in the last 12 years to have a score on a fumble return and an interception return in the same game. Paul McClendon of Texas Tech had a six-yard fumble return and a 50-yard interception return for a score against North Texas on Sept. 22, 2001, and Shawn Hackett of West Virginia had a 50-yard interception return and a 10-yard fumble return against Rutgers on Nov. 3, So no one had done it in almost 10 years. Hopkins Has Career Day DeAndre Hopkins had a career high 157 receiving yards in the win over North Carolina. He had a career high tying nine receptions, including a 25-yard scoring reception from Tajh Boyd. Hopkins reception yardage total was the best by a Clemson player this year, two yards better than the 155 yards Sammy Watkins had against Auburn earlier this year. Hopkins now has 37 catches for 510 yards and four scores this season. He was the top pass catcher on the Tigers last year with 52 receptions for 637 yards and four touchdowns. For his career he now has 96 receptions. He needs just four more catches to become the 17th player in Clemson history with 100 receptions. A 35-Point Quarter Clemson scored 35 points in the third period of its win over North Carolina on October 22. It was the most points in a quarter since the Tigers scored 35 against Wake Forest in an victory in Fittingly, the 1981 Clemson team was honored at halftime of Saturday s game on the occasion of the team s 30 year anniversary of winning the National Champiionship. One of the touchdowns scored in the third period came on a 12-yard scoring pass from Tajh Boyd to Brandon Ford. Ford shares the same last name as Clemson s 1981 head coach, Danny Ford. Brandon Ford s high school coach was Jeff Cruce, who played on Clemson s 1981 National Championship team. Cruce was at the game and witnessed his former player s score. Christopher Kit Southwick set a Clemson Tiger mascot pushup record when he did 225 pushups during the third quarter of the Clemson- North Carolina football game. Old record was by Dan Licata of 210 against Central Michigan in The 35 points in the third period tied the all-time record for most points in a quarter. The 1981 team scored 35 in the second period of that Wake Forest game in Those are the only 35-point quarters on record in Clemson history. Notes on Dabo Swinney Took Clemson to an 8-0 record to start the 2011 season. He was one of just four coaches to lead Clemson to a 8-0 or better start to a season. He joins Frank Howard (1948, 11-0), Danny Ford (1981, 12-0) and Tommy Bowden (2000, 8-0 start) Has a 19-4 record in Clemson Memorial Stadium for his career, a..826 winning percentage. That is the third best home winning percentage for a Clemson coach in history. Josh Cody was , Ken Hatfield was (.865), and then Swinney. Swinney has an overall record of for a.628 winning percentage. That ranks as the fourth best for a Clemson coach since Has coached a unanimous first-team All-American each of the last two years, C.J. Spiller in 2009 and Da Quan Bowers in Listed among five coaches being followed by officials at the Bobby Dodd Coach of he Year Award Foundation. The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award is presented annually by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation of Chattanooga, TN. The others are Bret Bielema of Wisconsin, Nick Saban of Alabama, Bob Stoops of Oklahoma and Ron Zook of Illinois. Has coached Clemson to three wins over top 25 teams this year, tying the single seaason record for wins over ranked opponents. Watkins Named Paul Hornung Award Co-Player of the Week Clemson freshman Sammy Watkins was named one of two Paul Hornung Award Players of the Week for his performance in Clemson s win at Maryland. The Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is Memorial Stadium awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football. Watkins had a Clemson record 345 all-purpose yards against Maryland. He had eight catches for 105 yards and two scores, and five kickoff returns for 207 yards. He also had a 33-yard run in his only carry. The 345 all-purpose yards broke C.J. Spiller s record of 312 set against Florida State in 2009 and rank as the fourth most for a single game in ACC history. Watkins had three total touchdowns at Maryland, the two reception scores, and an 89-yard kickoff return for a score. The three touchdowns tied a Clemson freshman record for a single game set by Ronald Williams against Appalachian State in 1990.Watkins 207 kickoff return yards were the second most in Clemson history. Justin Miller had a then NCAA record 282 kickoff return yards at Florida State in Watkins was also just the second player in the last 12 years to have at least 200 kickoff return yards, 100 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the same game. This is the second time in his career he has had back to back 100-yard games. He had 140 vs. Auburn and 107 vs. Miami last year. So far this year, Ellington has had 165 against Wofford, 117 vs. Boston College and 212 against Maryland. Ellington enters the Georgia Tech averaging 5.8 yards per attempt. When he does he will become the 18 th player in Clemson history with at least 2000 rushing yards. So far this year Ellington has 745 rushing yards and he has seven touchdowns and a 5.1 average. He did not play against Georgia Tech due to injury. The Tigers had allowed just 16 opponent points off turnovers in the first six games, then Maryland got 14 in the first quarter. Clemson still trailed in the second half and Maryland had the ball. But, freshman Bashaud Breeland had an interception return that set up a score, as Clemson went on a 25-3 run to take a lead. Maryland came back to take a lead on a long drive with seven minutes left.
