WHAT S COMING UP CSUN travels to UC Irvine Saturday afternoon for the Matadors first Big West Conference road game of the campaign. BigWest.tv will have the coverage beginning at 2 p.m. ABOUT UCI The Anteaters have the top overall record in the Big West at UC Irvine defeated Cal Poly to open league play last Saturday. Jordan Sanders is second in the Big West in scoring at 21.1 points per game which ranks her 15th in Division I to start this week. Sanders is third in the conference in field goal shooting (49.8%) and fourth in rebounding (7.2). With 83 assists, Sanders backcourt mate, Lauren Saiki, is the Big West leader in the category. She is 10th in Division I in assists per game (6.4). Saiki scored a game high 25 points against Cal Poly last week and is second on the team in scoring (12.7). This is the 54th time that CSUN and UCI are playing with the Matadors leading the all-time series The teams split a pair of games last season with each team winning on their home floor. MAULUPE NEARS 1000 CSUN head women s basketball coach Jason Flowers announced on Apr. 22, 2018 that the NCAA has granted a sixth year of eligibility to Matadors guard Serafina Maulupe for the upcoming season. Maulupe was injured in her fifth year of competition during practice and as a result, she missed the remainder of the campaign. In her first game back Nov. 6 at Idaho, Maulupe scored 12 points. She scored a season high 22 against San Diego State Dec. 9. She is closing in on becoming the 13th CSUN women s basketball player with at least 1,000 career points. She starts this week with 996 points in a CSUN uniform. After transferring to CSUN from Virginia Tech and sitting out a season due to NCAA transfer rules, Maulupe has shot up the CSUN career record book in several categories. Maulupe is second in career three-point field goal attempts (481), third in school history in career three-pointers (166), and ninth in career three-point field goal percentage (.345). FLUKER NAMED PLAYER OF WEEK FOR RECORD 13TH TIME Channon Fluker tied a 22-year old conference record as she was named Big West Conference Women s Basketball Player of the Week for the 13th time Dec. 24. The 6-foot-4 center tied New Mexico State s Anita Maxwell ( ) for the career Player of the Week record. Fluker earned the honor after recording her 65th career double-double Dec. 19 in the Matadors victory over San José State. Fluker scored the first eight points of the game en route to a double-double at halftime (12 points and 10 rebounds). She would finish the night shooting 10-of-12 from the field for a game high 20 points. The Pasadena native grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked seven shots, dished out four assists, and recorded a steal in 30 minutes of action.

3 FUN with NUMBERS in the Division I era. 11 OR MORE 12 of the 15 CSUN games this season has been decided by 11 or more points. The Matadors are 7-8 this season. Ramos played for Mexico for a second time when she was a member of the national team during the 2018 Centrobasket Women s Championship that was played in Manati, Puerto Rico from Aug Channon Fluker has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week 13 times, tying her for the most in league history with NM State s Anita Maxwell. 4/2 The Matadors feature players from four different states and two different countries on the roster. 129 Head coach Jason Flowers is the all-time winningest women s basketball coach at CSUN with 129 victories. The CSUN Matadors can be accessed on the Internet. The Matador website contains basic information for all 19 of CSUN s sports, including rosters and bios, schedules, press releases and updated statistics. Fluker s rim protection anchored a defense that held the Spartans to four points in the fourth quarter and 14-of- 62 shooting for the game (22.6%), the second lowest by a CSUN team at the Division I level. The 40 points allowed are the fifth fewest by a Matador squad PROGRAM WIN 500 CSUN won its 500th game as a program when the Matadors defeated Washington State Nov. 23. In is in its 45th year of competition in , CSUN s all-time record is The Matadors became the 262nd Division I women s basketball program with at least 500 victories. All 11 active players on the Matadors roster have started at least one game this season. Serafina Maulupe leads the team in games started this season with 13. CSUN RESETS ATTENDANCE RECORD In front 1,218 fans, the largest crowd in women s basketball history, CSUN rallied from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to defeat California Baptist Nov. 28. The previous record was 1,143 which was set Feb. 26, 2011 against UC Santa Barbara. RAMOS REPRESENTS MEXICO CSUN senior Claudia Ramos represented her native Mexico in two tournaments this past Summer. Ramos first stint for the national team occured July 20-23, 2018 during the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games which were held in Barranquilla, Colombia. Ramos averaged 10.4 points per game as Mexico finished fourth in the tournament. She shot 48.4% from the field (16- of-33) and was seventh in the tournament in free throw shooting as she was 16-of-20 from the free throw line (80%). For the tournament, the 6-0 guard averaged 7.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 18.1 minutes per game. Mexico defeated the Dominican Republic in the bronze medal game. CSUN A PRESEASON FAVORITE CSUN is picked first in the Big West Conference coaches preseason women s basketball poll and second in the Big West Conference preseason media women s basketball poll released Oct. 24. The Matadors received six first place votes in the coaches poll for a total of 77 points. UC Davis was awarded the remaining three first place votes for 75 points to come in second. UC Irvine (56) is third followed by Long Beach State (54) and Hawai i (45). Cal Poly (35), UC Santa Barbara (24), UC Riverside (23), and Cal State Fullerton (16) round out the poll. In the media poll, UC Davis is first with 12 first place votes and 171 points. CSUN was given the remaining eight first place votes for a 166-point total for second place. UC Irvine and Long Beach State are tied for third with 108 points. Cal Poly is fourth with 101. Hawai i (88), UC Santa Barbara (66), UC Riverside (55), and Cal State Fullerton (41) round out the poll. Individually, Channon Fluker and Serafina Maulupe have been chosen preseason All-Conference in both the coaches and media polls.

4 LETS TALK FLUKER CSUN s Channon Fluker is arguably one of the best players in all of Division I women s basketball. Let s take a look at Fluker at a glance; Named to 2019 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List 2017, 2018 Big West Conference Women s Basketball Player of the Year 2018 Big West Defensive Player of the Year 2016, 2017, 2018 First Team All-Conference 2016 Big West Freshman of the Year The fifth Player in Big West History to repeat at Big West Player of the Year, the first since Brittany Crain of UC Riverside (2015, 2016). Fluker became the all-time leading scorer in CSUN school history when she posted 19 against Loyola Marymount Dec. 7, Fluker s 1,851 points broke the previous school mark of 1,761 which was set by CSUN assistant coach Ashlee Guay who played for the Matadors from She is 11th in Big West history in career scoring. Fluker recorded her 66th career double-double against UC Santa Barbara Jan. 5 when she scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Her career double-double total is the second most among active Division I women s basketball players. Fluker s 1,243 career rebounds are the most among active Division I players and is now the second most in Big West Conference history. Judy Mosley of Hawai i ( ) is the Big West career leader in rebounding with 1,441. Fluker is the CSUN record holder for career rebounds per game (11.4) which is first among active Division I players. With seven field goals made at Boise State Nov. 8, 2018, Fluker reset the CSUN school career record in the category. Fluker has made 757 field goals in her career, breaking the old mark of 655 that was set by Ofa Tulikihihifo ( , 06-07). She tied a 22-year old conference record when she was named Big West Conference Player of the Week for the 13th time Dec. 24. 8 HEAD COACH JASON FLOWERS 9th Season = UCLA, 2001 = 2012, 2014 BIG WEST COACH OF THE YEAR Entering his ninth season as the head coach of the CSUN women s basketball in , Jason Flowers has completely reshaped the identity and culture of the Matadors. Under Flowers watch, CSUN won the Big West Tournament Championship in 2014, 2015, and 2018 to earn the league s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Matadors also won the Big West regular season title in 2014 for the first time in program history. Inheriting a program that won 13 games in the three seasons prior to his arrival, Flowers has transformed the Matadors into a regional power. For his work, Flowers was named the Big West Coach of the Year following the and seasons. The season was one for the ages as the Matadors became the first five-seed to win the Big West Tournament. Even more impressive was the fact CSUN won four games in five days to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Matadors traveled to Notre Dame where in the loss to the Fighting Irish, CSUN scored the most points in a game by a No. 16 seed (81) since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in Led by a senior quintet comprised of his first true recruiting class, the team set a program record with 23 victories. The Matadors finished 11-5 in Big West action and knocked off UC Davis in the Semifinals and Hawai i in the Finals to repeat as Big West Tournament Champions. In , the Matadors rebounded from a 4-10 start to finish overall and 12-4 in Big West play. CSUN knocked off UC Irvine in the Big West Tournament Semifinals and toppled Cal Poly in the Big West Tournament Championship to earn both the regular season and tournament titles. After a four-win season in his first year, the Matadors orchestrated the best turnaround in NCAA Division I in by finishing CSUN finished second in the Big West Standings that year and participated in the Women s National Invitational Tournament. Flowers student-athletes have earned multiple Big West honors in his time in charge of the program. Channon Fluker was named the 2016 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year, CollegeSportsMadness.com s National Mid-Major Freshman of the Year and was became the first freshman to earn first team All-Big West honors in over a decade. Fluker built on her impressive start and earned 2017 Big West Conference Player of the Year honors. She became the first player in more than 25 years to lead the league in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. The 6-4 center spent the summer of 2017 as part of USA Basketball Women s U23 National Team Training Camp. For the second year in a row, Fluker was named Big West Conference Women s Basketball Player of the Year in Fluker became the fifth player in BWC history to repeat as Big West Player of the Year and is the first since Brittany Crain of UC Riverside (2015, 2016). She is the fifth Big West player to lead the league and blocks in the same season and is only the second in to do it in consecutive seasons. Fluker was also named Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and first team All-Conference. Eliza Matthews became the third Matador to be named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017 while Claudia Ramos played for the Mexican National Team at the 2017 FIBA Women s Americup. Ashlee Guay received Big West Player of the Year honors in 2014, the first Matador in program history to be named her league s top honor. Guay left CSUN as the school s all-time leader in multiple categories, including career points, assists, steals and 3-pointers. Camille Mahlknecht (2014) and Janae Sharpe (2015) each won Big West Defensive Player of the Year honors. In two seasons at CSUN, Cinnamon Lister, who transferred into the program, knocked down pointers and set a school record with 89 in her first year at CSUN. Several Matadors entered the professional ranks overseas, including Guay, Mahlknecht, Violet Alama and Jasmine Erving. There are Matadors currently playing in Germany, Israel and in other countries throughout the world. Flowers prowess is beginning to get noticed as he was invited to be a Court Coach for the USA Junior National Team in the summer of 2015 as the team prepared for international competition. Before arriving at CSUN, Flowers worked as an assistant coach

9 HEAD COACH JASON FLOWERS 9th Season = UCLA, 2001 = 2012, 2014 BIG WEST COACH OF THE YEAR at UC Riverside. He helped the Highlanders qualify for the 2010 NCAA Tournament and 2009 WNIT. UCR set a new program record for Big West wins and recorded its first win ever over a nationally ranked foe with Flowers on the staff. Prior to his stint with the Highlanders, Flowers began his college coaching career at Long Beach State where he was an assistant coach for four seasons ( ). While at Long Beach State, Flowers helped coach the 49ers to the Big West Conference Championship. Flowers head coaching experience began at Valley High School in Santa Ana where he served as the head coach of the girls basketball program ( ). In addition to his coaching experience, Flowers played at UC Irvine and UCLA. As a student-athlete, Flowers was a Big West Scholar-Athlete in 1999 at UC Irvine, the 2000 recipient of the Coaches vs. Cancer Scholar-Athlete Award and in 2001, the UCLA Alumni Association Academic Award winner while a member of the Bruins basketball team. Following his graduation with a Sociology degree at UCLA in 2001, Flowers served as the team s academic coordinator from as well as a volunteer assistant coach with the Bruins. 99), Flowers tallied a career-high six assists against Cal State Fullerton and a career-high five steals against North Texas. Also, in , Flowers shot.472 from three-point territory. Flowers roots in Southern California are strong. Flowers graduated from Bellflower High School (Bellflower, CA) where he averaged 12.4 points and 6.5 assists in helping his team to a 21-5 record during his senior campaign. His efforts landed him a spot on the All-Suburban League first team. Flowers also played baseball where he also gained all-league honors. Flower s coaching strength runs through the family. Flowers is married to Tairia Flowers, the CSUN softball head coach. Tairia was a member of the United States National Team ( ), won a gold medal as a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic softball team in Athens (Greece) and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Games. The couple has three children: daughters Jasmine and Trystin, and son, Jayce. Flowers played in 47 games (21 as a starter) in two seasons at UC Irvine ( , ).
