Last Saturday in Knoxville, the Bulldogs notched their 800th all-time win with a dominating shutout of Tennessee Georgia is in its 124th season and they have a record of The Bulldogs rank 11th nationally in all-time victories. Vanderbilt got off to a 3-0 start but has lost its last two games as conference play opened up. Two weeks ago, the Commodores fell 59-0 to top-ranked Alabama in Nashville, and last Saturday, they lost to #21 Florida in Gainesville. Vanderbilt s 3-0 start included a victory over #18 Kansas State. Series Record Versus The Commodores The Bulldogs hold a lead in the all-time series with the Commodores dating back to Georgia has won 11 of its last 12 meetings in Nashville, including the Bulldogs victory in Vanderbilt Stadium in In fact, Georgia is 19-3 over the teams last 22 matchups. However, the Commodores held on for a victory in the seventh game of the 2016 season in Athens. This marked the first home loss to Vanderbilt for the Bulldogs since Inside The Numbers Saturday s matchup features three of the nation s top senior running backs, including two who are ranked among the NCAA s top 10 active rushing leaders. Georgia s Nick Chubb, who was named this week s SEC Offensive Player of the Week, ranks fourth nationally with 3,904 yards and 35 touchdowns in 37 games while Vanderbilt s Ralph Webb checks in at seventh on this list. He has 3,540 yards in 42 games with 24 touchdowns. The Bulldogs Sony Michel is 17th on this list with 2,667 yds. Georgia leads the SEC in Red Zone Defense and Vanderbilt is tied for second. Aiming For Sixth Straight Victory Georgia s five consecutive wins marks the first time the Bulldogs have reeled off five in a row since the end of the 2015 season. That year, Georgia posted victories over Kentucky, at Auburn, versus Georgia Southern, at Georgia Tech and against Penn State in the TaxSlayer Bowl to end the year. The Bulldogs are now aiming for their sixth straight win when they face the Commodores on Saturday. The last time Georgia tallied six wins in a row was during the 2012 season. That season, the Bulldogs started 5-0 before dropping a contest at South Carolina. But Georgia managed to bounce back and reel off six consecutive victories (at Kentucky, vs. Florida, Ole Miss, at Auburn, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech) and clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game. The Bulldogs were edged by top-ranked Alabama in Atlanta. Georgia s best start in recent history came during the 2005 season when the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 mark. Georgia won that the SEC title over LSU that season and finished Yet Another Dog Named To Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Senior DB Aaron Davis has been named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Georgia leads the nation in Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honorees with 18 since the award s inception in 1992, including four straight and six in the last seven years. Current Bulldog TE Jeb Blazevich was awarded the honor in This year, Davis has started all five games and is third on the team with 17 tackles.

2 vanderbilt Head Football Coach When Georgia looked for a new head football coach after the 2015 season, the arrows pointed to Kirby Smart, longtime University of Alabama defensive coordinator and former UGA player and assistant. After one season, he has not disappointed. In his first year leading the Bulldogs, Georgia extended its school record to 20 consecutive bowl appearances and posted five fourth-quarter comebacks including wins over No. 8 Auburn and No. 22 North Carolina. He led UGA to an 8-5 final record, which included a victory over TCU in the Liberty Bowl. He has also made an immediate impact in recruiting circles posting the nation s third-ranked class in 2017 following his first class in 2016 generally considered among the top ten. In addition to his coaching duties, Smart oversees the Kirby Smart Family Foundation, which is focused on being champions in the community by supporting and giving back to needy children and families. Smart officially came home to Georgia on Dec. 6, But he still had unfinished business at Alabama, which was chasing a national title. He juggled two jobs for a month until January 11, 2016, when the Tide won its fourth national championship in a seven-year span. Twelve hours later, he was at work in Athens, where he is one of nine head coaches at schools from Power 5 conferences that are coaching at their alma mater. Did You Know? 3 dog tracks vanderbilt Bulldog Offense Averaging 36 Points In SEC Games Georgia has opened up SEC play 2-0 and is averaging 36.0 points/game with wins over #17 Mississippi State (31-3) and at Tennessee (41-0) en route to a 5-0 start. The Bulldogs are tied for the national lead in Red Zone Offense, going a perfect 19- for-19, including 14 touchdowns. Directing the offense this season have been sophomore Jacob Eason and freshman Jake Fromm. Fromm has been filling in for Eason after he went down with a knee injury in the first quarter of the season opener versus Appalachian State. To date, Fromm is 50-for-84 for 734 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Eason began the season as the starter and Fromm has gotten the nod the last four games. Fromm earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after posting a career high 201 yards, completing nine of 12 passes with two touchdowns in the win over #17 MSU. His completions against MSU included touchdown strikes of 59 and 41 yards. Fromm was 7-for-15 with a touchdown and an interception at Tennessee and he ran for a pair of touchdowns. Fromm is only the seventh true freshman Bulldog quarterback to start a game, including just the second to do it on the road in his first career start. True freshman Georgia quarterbacks to start include Johnny Rauch (1945), Joe Dupree (1990), Eric Zeier (1991), Quincy Carter (1998), Matt Stafford (2006), Jacob Eason (2016) and now Fromm. Fromm joined Zeier as the only true freshmen to have their first career start on the road. Zeier led #22 Georgia to a win over #23 Ole Miss in Oxford. In that game, Zeier was 18-for-30 for 216 yards. Against No. 24 Notre Dame, Fromm finished 16-for-29 for 141 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in the win which featured a fourth quarter comeback. Trailing with 6:47 left in the contest, Fromm directed a nine play, 63-yard drive to set up the goahead field goal. He was 3-for-4 for 45 yards during the drive. Chubb, who was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week following the win at Tennessee, ranks fourth nationally (first in the SEC) in career rushing yards among active players with 3,904 while Michel is 17th (third in the SEC) with 2,667. The Bulldogs are the only school with two players in the top 17. Here s the top five active rushing leaders in NCAA FBS: 1. Royce Freeman (Oregon), Sr., 44 games, 4,738 yards, 54 TDs 2. Justin Jackson (Northwestern), Sr., 42 games, 4,402 yards, 34 TDs 3. Larry Rose III (New Mexico St.), Sr., 36 games, 4,015 yards, 29 TDs 4. Nick Chubb (Georgia), Sr., 37 games, 3,904 yards, 35 TDs 5. Jarvion Franklin (W. Michigan), Sr., 45 games, 3,871 yards, 44 TDs *17. Sony Michel (Georgia), Sr., 37 games, 2,667, 20 TDs In the road win over #24 Notre Dame, the Bulldog duo tallied 136 yards on 26 attempts with one TD. Versus a #17 MSU team that had boasted one of the nation s top defenses against the rush, Chubb went for 81 yards and another two scores while the Bulldogs finished with 203 yards rushing. In the shutout at UT, Georgia amassed 294 yards of rushing, including 109 by Chubb and 64 by Michel, who also had a rushing touchdown. In his career, Michel now has 2,667 yards and that is eighth in school history. He went for a career-high 170 yards on 19 carries (8.9 avg.) and a touchdown in last year s game versus Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs are the only school in the FBS to have two active rushers each with more than 2,000 yards. They lead the nation in combined yardage at 6,571. Chubb and Michel are the first Bulldog teammates to each have 1,000-yard rushing seasons in their career. Michel became the 10th Georgia player in history to rush for more than 1,000 yards while starting six games in Career Rushing/Receiving For Sony Michel Year G/GS Att. Yds TD LG Rec Yds TD LG / / , / / Total 37/ , A Look At The Offensive Line One of the story lines for the Bulldogs this season was the development of the offensive line. Georgia used the same starting offensive line in back to back games versus Samford and #17 Mississippi State after starting three different lineups in the first three games. The Bulldogs have started the same combination at LT, C and RT all year with senior Isaiah Wynn, junior Lamont Gaillard and freshman Andrew Thomas, respectively. Thomas became the first true freshman to start on the offensive line for the Bulldogs since John Theus in Junior LG Kendall Baker started his third straight game at UT while senior Dyshon Sims returned to the starting lineup at RG. He was starting in place of redshirt sophomore Solomon Kindley, who had started two games before sustaining an ankle injury during the win over MSU. However, he did play in the win versus the Vols. An Array Of Targets A dozen Bulldogs have caught a pass this season. Senior Javon Wims leads the team lead with 11 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Terry Godwin has a team best four touchdowns and 257 yards on 10 catches. He made an acrobatic one-handed grab for a five-yard TD at No. 24 Notre Dame, which was No. 1 on ESPN SportsCenter s Top-10 List. The Bulldogs executed a flea flicker to start the game versus #17 MSU and Godwin was on the receiving end of a career-long 59-yard touchdown pass from Fromm.

5 dog tracks vanderbilt Defense Setting The Tone In Georgia s last two games, the Bulldogs have allowed just three points and have a streak of six consecutive scoreless quarters. Georgia s 5-0 start includes wins at #24 Notre Dame, versus #17 Mississippi State and at Tennessee. The Bulldogs rank second nationally in Scoring Defense, surrendering just 9.2 points/game. In the SEC opener, Georgia faced #17 MSU and it was leading the SEC and was ranked ninth nationally in Scoring Offense at 47.7 points/game. The Bulldogs blanked the Volunteers 41-0 in Knoxville, which snapped the nation s fourth-longest active scoring streak and sixth-longest streak in college football history. The Vols had scored in 289 games in a row dating back to Georgia s defense held the Vols to just 142 yards of total offense and they entered the game averaging 32.2 points/game. UT tailback John Kelly was averaging 158 yards/game through his team s first four games. However, he was held to just 44 yards on 16 carries against the Bulldogs. Productive Start To 2017 For LBs Junior ILB Roquan Smith is on pace to lead the team in tackles for the second straight season. This year, Smith has the most tackles of any Bulldog with 38. He led the team in tackles with 95 in This marked the first time a sophomore led UGA in tackles since 2008 (Rennie Curran, 115). Senior OLBs Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy wreaked havoc at #24 Notre Dame, as the defense forced their first two turnovers of the year. Carter followed up that performance by notching two more sacks and four tackles in the win over Samford. Carter now has 12.5 career sacks, including three this season to be among the SEC leaders. He was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after posting seven tackles, including a sack for loss of 12 yards, forcing two fumbles and recovering a pair of fumbles against the Irish. Carter is tied for the NCAA lead with three fumble recoveries, including one in the latest victory at Tennessee. Experienced Group For New Defensive Line Coach The Bulldog coaching staff has one new face this season in defensive line coach Tray Scott, and he inherited an experienced unit. The elder statesman is senior nose John Atkins while the other returning starter is junior Trenton Thompson. Georgia ranks second nationally in Scoring Defense at 9.2 points/game (Alabama is the leader at 8.6 ppg) and also third in the SEC and 11th nationally in Rushing Defense at 97.5 yards/game. In Georgia s road win at #24 Notre Dame, the Irish totaled only 55 yards on the ground, the least recorded by the Irish since During the 31-3 rout of #17 MSU, the Bulldogs held their opponent to 177 yards on the ground after they came into the contest averaging 298 yards/game. Then, Georgia held the Vols to 142 yards in total offense, the lowest ever in the Kirby Smart era and the first shutout in his two years. Reed Between The Lines Newcomer J.R. Reed tallied a career best 10 tackles and three pass breakups in the dominating 31-3 win over #17 MSU. He followed that up by notching his first career interception (a 34-yard return) and fumble recovery to go with three tackles in the road shutout of Tennessee. Reed added a blocked field goal against Samford to his early season contributions to the Bulldogs. He also had a sack and a forced fumble in the same play against App State and added a TFL versus Notre Dame. Reed, whose father Jake played receiver in the NFL for 12 years and whose uncle Dale also played in the League, redshirted the 2016 season after transferring from Tulsa. Reed ranks second on the team with 28 tackles. Sanders Closing In On School Record Senior safety Dominick Sanders is tied for fifth in school history with 13 career interceptions. One of the Bulldogs he is tied with is Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. Sanders 13 career picks also ties him for the lead on the NCAA active career list. Sanders is second on the UGA all-time top-10 list and leads the SEC active list with 311 career interception return yards. Sanders snagged his first interception of the year against #17 MSU and had a 15-yard return. After not having an interception in the first three games, the Bulldogs now have four picks on the year after. Last season, Georgia tied for third in the SEC with 15 INTs. This year, he has posted a 42.6 average on 24 punts, including placing 12 inside the 20. Opponents have had just four punt returns for -4 yards. Georgia is tied for second nationally in fewest average punt return yards allowed at Nizialek spent his first three seasons at Columbia University where he finished with a degree in Economics. In his career with the Lions, Nizialek averaged 41.3 yards on 149 punts in three seasons. He averaged 44.8 on his punts in Blankenship Awarded Scholarship Redshirt sophomore PK Rodrigo Blankenship earned the starting job before the 2017 opener and received the news before the Notre Dame game in week two that he had been awarded a scholarship. He hit the game-winning 30-yard field goal at the 3:34 mark in the fourth quarter on the road in the victory over #24 Notre Dame. During this season, Blankenship has had a streak of 18 consecutive touchbacks. In fact, 24 of Blankenship s 31 kickoffs this year have been touchbacks. Last year, he totaled 21 touchbacks for the year out of 55. Blankenship emerged onto the scene last year and was named to the Freshman All-SEC team after connecting on 14- of-18 field goals and all of his 26 PATs.
