(The schedule at the bottom of this page reflects the bowl games Mountain West teams will play in during the bowl season. The Mountain West also has relationships with the Cactus Bowl, the DXL Frisco Bowl and the Foster Farms Bowl that are explained below.) The number of postseason appearances for the Mountain West will be driven by on-the-field performance, starting with the opportunity to play in the national semifinals or another New Year s Day bowl game as part of the College Football Playoff arrangement. The highest-rated champion from among the five non-contracted conferences (AAC, C-USA, MAC, Mountain West, SBC), as chosen by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, is guaranteed a slot in the system. In the 18 seasons since the league s inception, the Mountain West s champion or a current MW member has been a BCS/CFP participant eight (8) times, placing teams in the Fiesta (5), Rose (1) and Sugar (2) Bowls during that period. The MW also has agreements with eight (8) additional bowl games which in any given year will generate at least five (5) guaranteed postseason opportunities for its member institutions. These include primary positions with the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Gildan New Mexico Bowl, NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, and Hawai i Bowl, an opportunity with the DXL Frisco Bowl, and secondary positions with the Cactus Bowl and the Foster Farms Bowl. The Mountain West is a possible participant in the DXL Frisco Bowl, along with BYU, C-USA and the MAC, opposite the AAC. The MW is the primary back-up for the Cactus Bowl in the event the Big 12 or Pac-12 conferences do not fill their slots; similarly, the MW is first in line to replace the Big Ten or Pac-12 conferences if they leave an opening in the Foster Farms Bowl. 4 Bowl Eligible for the Second Consecutive Season: The Cowboys recorded their sixth win of the season in the victory over Colorado State on Nov. 4. That made the Cowboys bowl eligible for the second straight season. UW added a seventh win at Air Force on Nov. 11. The last time Wyoming earned bowl eligibility in consecutive seasons was 1998 and 99 when they posted records of 8-3 in 98 and 7-4 in 99. That was 19 seasons ago. Unfortunately, due to the lack of bowl bids available to conference teams those years, Wyoming did not receive a bowl invitation either of those two seasons. It has been since the seasons, 30 years ago, that Wyoming has appeared in bowl games in back-to-back seasons. UW played in the Holiday Bowl in both 1987 and 88. UW Seeking Seventh Win in Last 10 Games: As Wyoming enters the bowl season, the Cowboys will be seeking their seventh win in their last 10 games. Michigan Pokes Conclude Home Schedule With 5-2 Record: The Wyoming Cowboys concluded their home schedule with a 5-2 record. The Cowboys opened the season with a home win over Gardner-Webb. UW then lost at home to Oregon before winning four consecutive home games against Hawai i, Texas State, New Mexico and Colorado State. Wyoming closed out is home schedule with a close 13-7 loss to Fresno State. Wyoming Continues Home Success, Winning 12 of Last 15 Home Games: The Wyoming Cowboys have continued their winning ways at home this season, most recently defeating the Colorado State Rams for their 12th home win in the last 15 games played in War Memorial Stadium. The Cowboys lost their final game of the season by six points to Fresno State (13-7). Wyoming s 12 home wins during this stretch began with the last game of the 2015 season (a home win over UNLV); all six of its 2016 regular-season games; and its home wins over Gardner-Webb, Hawai i, Texas State, New Mexico and CSU. The Cowboys had won seven consecutive home games before losing a close game to San Diego State in the 2016 Mountain West Conference Championship Game. Wyoming Team Notes Seven Cowboys Earn All-Mountain West Honors, Record Three Cowboys Named to the First Team All-Defensive Unit: The Mountain West Conference released its All-Conference Football Team and seven Wyoming Cowboys were honored. For the first time since Wyoming has been a member of the Mountain West Conference, three Cowboys were named to the First Team defensive unit. Junior strong safety Andrew Wingard earned First Team honors for the second consecutive season. He was joined on the All-Mountain West First Team by junior defensive end Carl Granderson and sophomore defensive tackle Youhanna Ghaifan. It was the first All-Conference honor for both Granderson and Ghaifan. Two other Cowboy defenders were named to the All-MW Second Team. Those two were sophomore linebacker Logan Wilson and senior cornerback Rico Gafford. Wilson was recognized by the Mountain West for the second straight season. He was honored a year ago as the MW Freshman of the Year. Gafford received the first All-Conference recognition of his career. The final two Cowboys to be recognized were junior quarterback Josh Allen and sophomore kick return specialist Tyler Hall, who both earned Honorable Mention honors. Allen was honored for the second straight year. He was a Second Team choice last year. Hall earned his first All- Conference honor. The All-Conference Team was selected in a vote of the 12 Mountain West head football coaches and media members from across the Mountain West. Building a Program: The Wyoming Cowboys are enjoying another successful season in as head coach Craig Bohl and his staff strive to build Wyoming into a consistently winning program. UW enters the bowl season with a 7-5 overall record and a 5-3 Mountain West Conference record. A year ago, the Cowboys posted an 8-6 overall record and a 6-2 MW mark. Wyoming will be seeking its eighth win of the season in this year s bowl appearance. In the history of Cowboy football, 20 teams have won eight games in a season. The last time Wyoming won eight games in back-to-back seasons was 1997 and 98. The Cowboys intercepted five passes and recovered two muffed punts. The five Pokes who intercepted passes were: strong safety Andrew Wingard (who picked off two passes), defensive end Carl Granderson, free safety Marcus Epps and cornerback Tyler Hall. Fumble recoveries were made by Cowboy cornerback Braden Smith and tight end Tyree Mayfield. Wyoming s previous high was six forced turnovers, which was last recorded against Bowling Green on Sept. 7, The only other two schools to force seven turnovers in a single game this season have been Utah State vs. BYU and Cal vs. Washington State. Granderson was one of only 27 players nationally named to the award s final watch list. Candidates primary position for the Hendricks Award must be defensive end. The Ted Hendricks Award is sponsored by the Ted Hendricks Foundation and is named for threetime All-American Ted Hendricks, who played for the University of Miami Hurricanes. Hendricks went on to play 15 seasons in the NFL from 1969 to He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Granderson will enter the bowl season with 72 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, 15.0 tackles for losses, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, four quarterback hurries and one safety for the season. Senior Cornerback Rico Gafford Invited to NFLPA Collegiate Bowl: Wyoming senior cornerback Rico Gafford has been invited to play in this year s NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The game will be played on Jan. 20, 2018, at 2 p.m., M.T. (1 p.m., P.T.) and for the first time in the seven-year history of the All-Star game it will be played in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. This year s game will be televised live on FS1. Gafford tied for the team lead in interceptions this season, with four, and led the Cowboys in passes defended (interceptions + pass breakups), with 10. He tied for No. 3 in the Mountain West and No. 36 in the nation in interceptions. Red-Zone Results, UW No. 1 in MW in Red-Zone Offense, No. 2 in Defense: Both the Cowboy offense and defense have been productive in the red zone this season. The offense has converted 29 of 30 of its red-zone opportunities (96.7 percent) in, ranking No. 1 in the Mountain West and No. 3 in the nation in that category. UW s offense has converted 20 of 30 red-zone opportunities into touchdowns and 9 of 30 into field goals. Defensively, Wyoming is ranked No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 20 in the NCAA, allowing opponents to convert only 75.8 percent (25 of 33) of their red-zone chances TDs and 8 field goals. Offense Continues to Generate Clutch Drives: There have been many clutch offensive drives by the Wyoming Cowboys over the past couple of seasons. The ability to generate those drives in key situations was never more evident than in Wyoming s last two wins of the season. Trailing 13-9 with 7:09 remaining in the game vs. rival Colorado State, the Cowboys would drive 69 yards in seven plays and score the go-ahead touchdown with only 4:21 remaining in the game to win on Nov. 4. At Air Force on Nov. 11, the Cowboy offense had two big drives. The first was a 10-play, 69-yard drive led by Allen to take a 21-0 lead over the Falcons. The second drive was led by backup quarterback Nick Smith. After Allen went out with an injury, Smith came in and guided the Cowboys 67 yards in six plays to seal a win at the Academy. Kellen Overstreet Coming Off First 100-Yard Rushing Game of His Career: Redshirt freshman running back Kellen Overstreet recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career in Wyoming s regular-season finale at San Jose State. Overstreet carried the ball 17 times for 139 yards, with a long run of 38 yards vs. the Spartans. He averaged 8.18 yards per attempt at San Jose State. For the season, Overstreet has 88 carries for 396 yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had a memorable performance in a home win over rival Colorado State in. 8 Second Quarter Scoring Has Been Big for Cowboys in : The Wyoming Cowboys have scored 119 points in the second quarter of their games this season. That is 44 percent of their total points scored this season of 268. In the Pokes 42-3 win over New Mexico on Oct. 28, Wyoming scored 35 of its 42 points in the second quarter. While the defense was forcing four turnovers in that second quarter, the Cowboy offense did an excellent job of converting those turnovers into points. The Cowboy offense converted all four of the second-quarter turnovers into touchdowns, and put together an 80-yard, seven-play TD drive of their own for the fifth touchdown in the second quarter. Entering this season, Wyoming hadn t scored 30-plus points in any quarter of a game since scoring 31 points in the fourth quarter of a comeback win at Air Force on Sept. 24, This season, Wyoming has done that twice, scoring 31 in the second quarter of a win over Texas State and 35 in the second quarter of a 42-3 win over New Mexico. Johnson, scored a defensive TD on an interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Rico Gafford and scored a special teams TD on a 95-yard kickoff return by cornerback Tyler Hall. The last time Wyoming scored 31 points in a quarter was in the fourth quarter of a comeback win at Air Force on Sept. 24, Cowboy QB Randy Welniak led the 1988 comeback, rushing for one TD and passing for another on way to the 1988 conference title. Hall Writes His Name in Wyoming Record Book for Kickoffs Returned for Touchdowns: Cowboy kick returner Tyler Hall wrote his name in the Wyoming record book with his second career kickoff return for a touchdown against Texas State on Sept. 30. Hall became the first player in Wyoming school history to return two kickoffs for TDs in a single season and a career. Seven former Cowboys had returned one kickoff return for a TD in their careers. Rookie Running Back: True freshman running back Trey Woods had the first breakout game of his young career in Wyoming s win over Hawai i. Woods ran for 135 yards on 15 carries and scored his first touchdown as a Cowboy. Wyoming Team Notes Josh Allen Breaks Into Top 10 in Wyoming History in Total Offense and Passing Yards: Wyoming junior quarterback Josh Allen accounted for 231 yards of total offense and passed for 219 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Texas State on Sept. 30,. With that performance, he moved into 10th place on the Wyoming career total offense and passing charts. Allen moved ahead of UW Hall of Famer Randy Welniak (4,559 yards of total offense) on the Wyoming career total offense chart, and he moved ahead of former Cowboy great Phil Davis (4,123 passing yards from ) on the UW career passing list. Senior fullback Drew Van Maanen was named a team captain for the first time in his career. Junior quarterback Josh Allen was voted a team captain for the second consecutive year. Junior free safety Marcus Epps also earned team captain honors for the second straight year. Near Capacity Crowd Fills War Memorial Stadium for Oregon Game: A crowd of 29,139 attended the Wyoming-Oregon game on Sept. 16,, in Wyoming s War Memorial Stadium. The capacity of War Memorial Stadium is 29,181. Wyoming Sells Over 10,000 Season Tickets for the Second Time in History: Wyoming Athletics sold over 10,000 season tickets for the season -- 10,464 to be exact. That is the second time in school history that UW sold over 10,000 season tickets. The other season was the 2011 season when Nebraska visited Laramie. Wyoming Team Notes Craig Bohl Signed Through 2023 Season: As the Wyoming Cowboys were preparing to play for the 2016 Mountain West Conference Championship on Saturday, Dec. 3, University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman announced the day before the MW Championship Game that Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl had been signed to a new seven-year contract that will run through the end of the 2023 season. In only his third year as head coach of the Cowboys, Bohl led UW to the 2016 Mountain West Conference Mountain Division title and a spot in the 2016 Mountain West Championship Game. Bohl was named the 2016 Mountain West Coach of the Year in voting by MW head football coaches and media members covering the conference. When I hired Craig (Bohl) three years ago, I believed he was the best coach to turn around our football program, said Burman. He has certainly delivered and the turnaround is evident in the performance of our team this season. What excites me most about this new contract is the opportunity to develop stability in our football program. Our fans, our student-athletes, donors and our state legislators will now get an opportunity to watch this football program continue to grow. I believe Coach Bohl is going to be the head football coach at the University of Wyoming for the rest of his career. This is a mutual agreement to continue to move Cowboy Football forward, said Bohl. I can t thank Tom Burman, Governor Mead, President Nichols and numerous members of the state legislature enough for the support they ve provided our football program to help us be successful. The new contract includes annual increases along with incentive elements, and will place Bohl near the top of Mountain West head football coaches in annual compensation. Also included in the new contract is a significant buyout. If Bohl would take another job, a buyout would have to be paid to the University of Wyoming. That buyout begins at $6.5 million the first year of his new contract and declines annually. Cowboy Squad Still Relatively Young: A look at who has started and played for the Cowboys thus far this season indicates that this year s team is still relatively young. Of the 37 different players who have started at least one game this season, only six are seniors. The junior class (13 starters) and sophomore class (11 starters) lead in that category. There have been seven freshmen start at least one game in. In terms of the 70 players who have appeared in at least one game this season, the combination of true freshmen and redshirt freshmen lead the way with 23. The Chippewas are playing in their fourth consecutive bowl game and their ninth in the last 12 years. CMU averaged 29.7 points per game and allowed 26.8 per night. Central Michigan averaged yards of total offense per game passing for nearly 250 yards per game. Defensively, the Chippewas allow yards of total offense per game as opponents rushed for 190 yards and passed for 188 yards per contest. The Chips won the turnover battle in the regular season for +8. The CMU offense is led by Corey Willis, a senior wide receiver earned a spot on the second team All-MAC team for the second consecutive year. He has made 42 catches for 625 yards and nine touchdowns. Jonathan Ward, a sophomore running back is averaging 6.0 yards per carry, has scored nine touchdowns, and has totaled 1,351 all-purpose yards. Head Coach John Bonamego: In his third season, Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego has led the Chippewas to three bowl games. Bonamego became the 28th head coach in Central Michigan football history on Feb. 8, Bonamego played at CMU for the legendary Herb Deromedi in the mid 1980s. In his first season in charge of the program, Bonamego led the Chippewas to a 7-6 finish, the Mid-American Conference West Division championship and a berth in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit. In 2016, CMU stunned No. 22-ranked Oklahoma State, winning on a no-time-on-the-clock final catch and lateral touchdown. The play was featured for days on sports shows and discussion over the penalty that led to CMU s last-gasp play continued throughout the season. The Chippewas finished the season with an appearance in the Miami Beach Bowl. Prior to taking the reins of the CMU program, Bonamego, who graduated from Paw Paw High School in southwest Michigan, spent 16 years in the National Football League as an assistant, primarily as a special teams coordinator. His last coaching job in the NFL was with the Detroit Lions. Bonamego earned his degree in health fitness from CMU in 1987 and turned to coaching immediately. 18 Craig Bohl Head Football Coach, University of Wyoming When Craig Bohl was hired as head football coach for the University of Wyoming, he was open in saying that he wanted to bring Cowboy Football back to a place of national prominence. In 2016, his team took the first step toward that goal, defeating two Top 25 ranked opponents, being named the National Team of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) for one of those wins and receiving votes itself in the national polls. Wyoming also captured the Mountain Division title of the Mountain West Conference, earned the right to host the 2016 MW Football Championship Game as the highest ranked team in the conference and was invited to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. His Cowboys ended the year as one of the NCAA s top scoring offenses, averaging 35.9 points per game to rank No. 25 in the nation. Bohl was recognized for his turnaround of Cowboy Football by being named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in voting by conference head coaches and media. Now entering his fourth season at Wyoming and his 15th season as a head coach, Bohl is challenging his team to take another step forward in -- a step to become a team that consistently competes for and wins conference titles and reaches postseason play. Taking another step forward as a football program has been our focus since the start of winter conditioning, said Bohl. Last year, we were competitive within our conference, but we need to continue to take steps to improve. I think our guys have gotten a taste of what it s like to be competitive, and now we need to build on that. In 2016, two Cowboys earned All-America honors in running back Brian Hill and center Chase Roullier. Linebacker Logan Wilson earned Freshman All-America honors in 2016, joining Andrew Wingard, who earned Freshman All-America honors a year earlier. For a man who has been part of five national championship teams during his coaching career -- two as an assistant coach at his alma mater Nebraska and three as the head coach at North Dakota State -- Bohl knows how to keep a team focused when coming off a successful season. It will be important to make sure our football team recognizes we have a long ways to go, said Bohl. Consistency is going to be really important. The days of us sneaking up on some opponents are long gone. There is an awful lot of parity in the Mountain West. We ll need to have a great fall camp and get off to great start in our non-conference schedule. Athletics Director Tom Burman introduced Bohl as the new head football coach of the Wyoming Cowboys on Sunday, Dec. 8, Bohl became the 32nd head football coach in University of Wyoming history. He came to Wyoming after building a national power at North Dakota State as a head coach for 11 seasons from His teams won three consecutive National Championships at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level in 2011, 12 and 13. NDSU became only the second FCS school in NCAA history to win three consecutive national football titles, tied the FCS record for consecutive wins (24 from ) and became the first undefeated FCS National Champion since Rarely do you get an opportunity to hire a head coach who has won multiple National Championships and has a reputation as a program builder, said Burman. I am absolutely confident we hired one of the best football coaches in the country. All you have to do is look at Craig s record. I understand the awesome responsibility to lead this football team, said Bohl. I also understand how important football is in the fabric of this institution and not only this institution but around the state. Whether you re in Sheridan, Casper or Thermopolis, this is the state team, and I embrace that. I m looking forward to getting to know the people of our great state of Wyoming. It will be an exciting time for us. We understand that the bar is high. I also appreciate the vision that Tom (Burman) has, and I want to thank him for having faith in me to lead this football program. He was able to articulate to me where our football program needs to go and the resources that are going to be provided to allow us to experience success. I can t tell you how excited I am to embrace the Cowboy tradition. Not only has Bohl won three national titles at the FCS level, but he was the linebackers coach at his alma mater, Nebraska, when the Huskers won the 1995 and 1997 National Championships. Bohl currently serves on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Board of Trustees, having been elected by a vote of the membership at the 2012 AFCA national convention. He was also appointed to the 13-member NCAA Division I Football Competition Committee in January of. He concluded his career as head coach of the NDSU Bison, with a (.765) record. He guided the Bison to the FCS Playoffs each of his final four seasons, posting a 14-1 record in the FCS Playoffs. His last three teams posted records of 14-1 (2011), 14-1 (2012) and 15-0 (2013) for a combined record of 43-2 (.956) on way to their three consecutive FCS national titles. By winning the 2013 FCS National Championship, North Dakota State extended its winning streak to 24 consecutive games, which tied both the NDSU and FCS records for consecutive victories. The Bison teams from originally set the school record with 24 straight victories. The University of Pennsylvania set the FCS record of 24 consecutive wins from That record was later tied by Montana from The 2013 NDSU team also set a North Dakota State single-season record for wins, posting a perfect 15-0 record. The Bison became the first undefeated FCS National Champion since Marshall went 15-0 to win the 1996 FCS title. In 2012 and 13, Bohl received both The Sports Network Eddie Robinson FCS National Coach of the Year Award and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS National Coach of the Year Award. He became the first coach in the first 27 years of the Eddie Robinson Award to win it in consecutive seasons. In 2013, he also received the Liberty Mutual FCS Coach of the Year Award, which is presented in partnership with the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. His other National Coach of the Year honor came in 2006, when he was recognized by the Football Gazette as the FCS National Coach of the Year and the Northwest Region Coach of the Year. Bohl grew up in Lincoln, Neb., and went on to attend the University of Nebraska where he was a reserve defensive back from 1977 to 1979 under head coach Tom Osborne. Bohl was part of Nebraska s 1979 Orange Bowl and 1980 Cotton Bowl teams. The season will be Bohl s 37th year coaching at the college level. Born July 27, 1958, Bohl will be 59 years old when the season kicks off. He earned his bachelor s degree in business administration from Nebraska in Bohl s family includes wife Leia, and children Mallory and Morgan, Aaron and Elijah. Page 18

The Cowboys first season was Since that first season, there have been only four seasons in which Wyoming has not played football. In 1918, while Wyoming had a team they played no games due to an influenza epidemic. The other three seasons Wyoming did not field a team were 1943, 44 and 45 during World War II. The HAPC will be one of the preeminent athletic facilities in the country. It will add 71,000 square feet of new space and will expand the current Curtis and Marian Rochelle Athletics Center to over 118,000 square feet. The HAPC groundbreaking was held on the same day the Wyoming Cowboys hosted the Boise State Broncos in a battle for first place in the Mountain West Conference s Mountain Division. A successful athletics program generates excitement, Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead said in April, when fundraising was announced. This leads to better student recruitment, better alumni support and stronger schools. I recommended $20 million in matching funds for the expansion and renovation of the Rochelle Athletics Center for these reasons. I thank Marian H. Rochelle for this generous gift and her continued support of the University of Wyoming. The project is funded by $24 million in private donations that were raised by UW Athletics and the UW Foundation and $20 million in state matching approved by Gov. Mead and the Legislature. Overwhelming interest by donors 55 total saw the fundraising efforts completed ahead of schedule. Marian Rochelle and her family donated $3 million as a leadership gift to kick off the project, and the combined gifts of Marian Rochelle and her daughter April Brimmer Kunz have since grown to $4.1 million. Mick and Susie McMurry s generosity and their commitment to making the University of Wyoming a premier university in both athletics and academics will be symbolized by the High Altitude Performance Center that will bear their name, says Tom Burman, UW athletics director. We also want to thank Marian Rochelle and April Brimmer Kunz for their generous lead gift for this project. And we of course want to thank Governor Mead and the members of the Wyoming State Legislature for making funds available to match the private funds that we raised for this facility. The High Altitude Performance Center will be one of the best facilities of its kind in all of college athletics. It will provide the student-athletes in all of our sports the athletic training resources to compete with the best in the nation, and it will provide our academic counseling unit exceptional resources to help our student-athletes achieve their educational and career goals. The Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center will redefine Cowboy football, says UW Head Football Coach Craig Bohl. This facility will play a critical role in our vision of recruiting to what we call the Wyoming Profile. That recruiting effort involves attracting a young man who is committed to earning a meaningful degree from an outstanding academic institution and has a laser-like focus to win Mountain West Conference championships. The High Altitude Performance Center will put us at the top of the league in terms of training and academic facilities, which is where we also aspire to be on the field of competition. The new facility will focus on the unique advantages of training at an altitude of 7,220 feet. From strength and conditioning training, to nutrition, to recovery and rehabilitation services following injuries, the HAPC will serve the needs of all of Wyoming s 400-plus student-athletes. The facility s design will stay true to the architectural tradition of iconic sandstone buildings featured throughout the UW campus. Located just beyond the north end zone, the High Altitude Performance Center will enhance the aesthetics of War Memorial Stadium. Due to its location, the HAPC will be highly visible for national television audiences. It will show the commitment that the state of Wyoming has in ensuring Wyoming Athletics continues to successfully compete at the NCAA Division I level -- the highest level of competition in college sports. The ground level of the HAPC will house both an Olympic sport weight-training area and a separate strength and conditioning center for the Cowboy football team that will overlook Jonah Field. Also on the first floor will be a sports medicine area that will nearly double the size of its previous space, allowing for more effective and efficient treatment of UW student-athletes. The football locker room, like the football strength and conditioning area, will overlook the field and will include a player lounge. The second floor will include an expansive academic center to house academic counselors, tutoring areas and a computer lab, as well as enhanced and renovated football offices, meeting rooms, a new recruiting lounge and the nutrition center/training table. The theater-style team meeting room will span both the first and second floors. Construction on the project will begin after the conclusion of the 2016 Cowboy football season. It is estimated that the project will take months to complete. The original Curtis and Marian Rochelle Athletics Center was opened in 2001 at a total cost of $9.4 million. Fundraising for the RAC included a historic $4.2 million gift from the Rochelles, which was the largest donation in school history at the time. A total of 167 donors contributed to the original RAC. 30 GAME #1 Wyoming Cowboys GAME #2 Wyoming 3, Iowa 24 Sept. 2, Kinnik Stadium - Iowa City, Iowa The Cowboy defense forced four turnovers, but the Iowa defense held the Wyoming offense in check, as UW fell 24-3 in the season opener on Saturday afternoon in Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. The Pokes were held to 233 yards of total offense against one of the nation s top defenses. The Cowboy defense were also stout holding Iowa to 263 yards of offense. UW rushed for 59 yards, as it would have been a season low in Junior Josh Allen was 23-of-40 passing for 174 yards with two interceptions. Sophomore Austin Conway led the Pokes with a career-high eight receptions for a career-high 51 yards. Sophomore Milo Hall recorded his first-career carry in the first quarter and finished the game with 30 yards on nine carries. The UW defense was led by junior Carl Granderson. He had a career-high 10 tackles for UW and added a sack along with a forced fumble. Junior Andrew Wingard added eight tackles and sophomore linebacker Logan Wilson finished with six, all of which were solo. Stanley threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Akrum Wadley rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries. The Iowa linebackers combined for 38 tackles with Josey Jewell recording a game-high 14. The Wyoming Cowboys (1-1) scored on their first two drives of the game and won their eighth home game in their last nine home contests, defeating Gardner-Webb (0-2) by a final score of 27-0 in Wyoming s home opener on Saturday in War Memorial Stadium. Wyoming s shutout was the first since shutting out Colorado State 44-0 on Oct. 20, 2010, in Laramie. The Cowboys outgained the Runnin Bulldogs 393 to 195 in the game. With their 24-0 halftime lead, the Cowboys shut out an opponent in the first half for the first time since Sept. 14, 2013 against Northern Colorado, when they led 21-0 at half. The first-half shutout marked the first time Wyoming shut out an opponent in either half since shutting out Colorado State in the second half of a win on Oct. 1, Wyoming outgained Gardner-Webb in the first quarter, in the first half. The Oregon Ducks brought one of the top ranked offenses in the nation into Wyoming s War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, and the Ducks rode that offense to a win over the Wyoming Cowboys. The game attracted an outstanding crowd of 29,139. The Cowboys suffered their first regular-season loss in War Memorial Stadium since a 26-7 loss to Colorado State on Nov. 7, 2015, snapping an eight-game regular season home winning streak. Oregon ended the day with 558 yards of total offense to Wyoming s 183. The Cowboy defense forced three turnovers on the day, with two first half fumble recoveries and a second-half interception. Wyoming turned all three of those forced turnovers into points -- one touchdown and two field goals. Sophomore running back Milo Hall busted the longest rush of his career, a 14-yarder, in the first quarter. Hall rushed for a career-high 43 yards on 11 carries. Freshman running back Trey Woods entered the game in the second quarter and gained 14 yards on his first carry. On his first carry against Gardner-Webb, Woods gained 13 yards. Woods recorded career bests of 11 carries and 42 yards during the game. Junior safety Andrew Wingard recorded 14 tackles, his first double-digit tackle game of the season and the 15th of his career. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss, including a sack. He now has 3.0 sacks in his career. Wyoming 28, Hawai i 21 OT Sept. 23, War Memorial Stadium - Laramie, Wyo. It was a key conference opener for both the Wyoming Cowboys and Hawai i Rainbow Warriors and both teams gave gutsy performances before the Cowboys prevailed in the first overtime to capture a home win. A second quarter scoring explosion by the Wyoming Cowboys fueled a home win over Texas State. The Wyoming offense scored three touchdowns on TD passes by junior quarterback Josh Allen. The Cowboy defense scored twice on a 37-yard interception return by senior cornerback Rico Gafford and an 18-yard fumble return for a touchdown by sophomore linebacker Logan Wilson. And the Wyoming special teams scored on a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by sophomore cornerback Tyler Hall. Hall became the first Cowboy in the 121 seasons of Cowboy Football to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a single season and in a career. The Pokes fall to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the MW, as the Broncos (5-2, 3-0 MW) snapped Wyoming s three-game winning streak. Junior Andrew Wingard recorded 15 tackles for the Cowboys. He has 325 in his career for 10th all-time at Wyoming. He has the third most tackles by a Cowboy safety in school history. Fellow junior safety Marcus Epps tied a career-high with 13 tackles. Junior defensive end Carl Granderson recorded career-highs in sacks with two, tackles with 12 and tackles for loss with 3.5. The Pokes defense did not record a turnover for the first time this season. Junior quarterback Josh Allen threw for 131 yards. He moved to ninth in career passing yards at Wyoming passing Craig Burnett. Allen now has 4,470 career passing yards. He lead the Pokes in rushing with 62 yards, as it was a season best for the quarterback. Wyoming recorded 242 yards of total offense, as Boise State recorded 342 on the night. Boise State was aggressive defensively with two interceptions and four sacks on the night. Wyoming 42, New Mexico 3 Oct. 28, War Memorial Stadium - Laramie, Wyo. Forcing turnovers has been a key to Wyoming victories this season, and the Cowboys had a night to remember as they forced seven New Mexico turnovers on way to a 42-3 home victory on Saturday. The seven takeaways were a Wyoming school record. The Pokes forced five of those turnovers in the first half and scored 35 points off those turnovers as they built a 42-0 halftime lead. The only second half scoring was a 42- yard field goal by New Mexico place-kicker Jason Sanders at the 14:08 mark of the fourth quarter. The Cowboy offense did an excellent job of converting those turnovers into points. The Cowboy offense converted all five of the first-half turnovers into touchdowns, and put together an 80-yard, seven-play TD drive of their own for the sixth first-half touchdown. Andrew Wingard would end the day with two interceptions and five tackles. Cowboy sophomore linebackers Logan Wilson and Cassh Maluia would lead the Pokes with seven tackles each. There have been many memorable games in the 109- year history of The Border War and on Saturday night, another memory was made as the Wyoming Cowboys came from behind to capture a victory in a game played in a snowstorm in Laramie. With a little over seven minutes to go in the game, Colorado State held a 13-9 lead and had the ball at the Wyoming 35-yard line, facing a 4th down and six. The Rams decided to go for it on fourth down, but Wyoming s defense came up with a huge stop. The Pokes would then take the ball and Kellen Oversteet gave the Pokes the lead with 4:21 remaining. He rushed for 26 yards on the Pokes final scoring drive and rushed seven times for 43 yards in the second half. Wyoming ended the game with 294 yards of total offense to Colorado State s 345. There was only one turnover in the game -- on Allen s fourth-quarter fumble. It was the first time this season that Wyoming won a game without winning the turnover battle. The Wyoming defense kept the Cowboys in the game by limiting the Bulldogs to one touchdown and two field goals prior to the Pokes taking possession at their own 20- yard line with 4:17 remaining in the contest. Nick Smith, who started the game at quarterback for the injured Josh Allen, completed 6 of 7 passes on Wyoming s touchdown drive, taking the Cowboys 80 yards in seven plays to pull UW to within six points at 13-7 with 2:25 left in the fourth quarter. Smith began the scoring drive with a nine-yard completion to wide receiver James Price. He followed that with completions of 14 yards to tight end Austin Fort, 12 yards to wide receiver C.J. Johnson and nine yards to wide receiver Austin Conway that put the ball at the Fresno State 36-yard line. On the next play, Smith connected again with Conway, who made a spin move down the sideline for 30 yards to the Bulldog six-yard line. Smith then hit running back Nico Evans on a swing pass, Evans made a Bulldog miss to get into the end zone. Wyoming followed that touchdown with one final drive of the game that saw the Cowboys take the ball all the way down to the Fresno State 27-yard line.
