Rose (Houston); sophomore guard Adam Drexler (Houston); junior guard Jherrod Stiggers (Terrell); freshman forward JC Washington (Houston); freshman guard Wes VanBeck (Houston) and sophomore guard Tyus Bowser (Tyler). In addition to that group, two other team members prepped in Houston before joining the Cougars... That group includes sophomore forward Danrad Knowles (Homeschool Christian Youth Association, Houston; Nassau, Bahamas) and senior forward Mikhail McLean (Second Baptist, Houston; Nassau, Bahamas). Of the 15 members on the roster, eight hail from or played high school ball in Texas. FACING THE LONE STAR STATE With his win against Texas Tech on Dec. 23, head coach Kelvin Sampson improved to 4-0 against schools from the state of Texas in That kind of success is nothing new to Sampson, who has enjoyed tremendous success against teams from the state of Texas during his more than 25 years as a collegiate head coach. His Cougars previously enjoyed wins against Houston Baptist (Dec. 13), Abilene Christian (Dec. 6) and Texas-Pan American (Dec. 4). With win against Texas Tech, Sampson now owns a career mark against Texas teams during his career. 1,000 POINT COUNTDOWN Junior guard Jherrod Stiggers needs only 123 points in to become the 45th player with 1,000 points during his Houston career ,000-POINT CLUB After scoring a team-high 20 points against UCF on Jan. 6 inside Hofheinz Pavilion, junior guard Jherrod Stiggers needs only 123 points in to become the 45th player in school history with 1,000 points during his Houston career.
