The Vikings put together an impressive offensive attack and snapped the Philadelphia Eagles 5-game winning streak in convincing fashion, 48-30, in Week 15. The 163 receiving yards are the most by a Viking since Sidney Rice, had 201 yards on 11/15/09 against the Lions. QB Matt Cassel threw for 382 yards vs. the Eagles, the most by a Viking since Brett Favre s 446 vs. Arizona on11/7/10. Cassel, who has yard TD passes, ties the team record. RB Matt Asiata, who rushed for 51 yards and 3 TDs against the Eagles, became the 1st NFL player since Daunte Culpepper (9/3/00) to rush for 3 TDs in his 1st career start. In his 1st career start, CB Shaun Prater snagged his 1st career INT against his former team, the Eagles, in Week 15 and will play against his other former team, the Bengals, in Week 16. DE Brian Robison and DE Jared Allen each registered 2.0 sacks against Philadelphia bringing both of their season sack totals to 9.0. They can be the 1st Viking duo to each get 10+ sacks since 2004 Kevin Williams (12) & Lance Johnstone (11) The Vikings scored a season-high 48 points against the Eagles. It was the 1st time the Vikings topped 40 points since beating the New York Giants, 44-7, on 1/3/10. WR/KR Cordarrelle Patterson recorded a team season-high 141 receiving yards against Baltimore in Week 14, including a team season-long 79-yard TD. The 141 receiving yards are the most by a Vikings rookie since WR Randy Moss (163, at Dallas, 11/26/1998). Since 2011, special teams coordinator Mike Priefer s first year in Minnesota, the Vikings are tied with the Ravens, Broncos and Titans for the most combined kick return TDs with 6 (4 kickoff returns, 2 punt returns). The 4 kickoff return TDs lead the NFL. Patterson s 1,199 kickoff return yards are the most in the NFL in 2013 and ranks 3rd all-time among Vikings. His 109-yard kickoff return TD against Green Bay on 10/27/13 is the longest kickoff return in NFL history. He needs 147 kickoff return yards to break the Vikings singleseason record (Buster Rhymes, 1,345 in 1985). Peterson rushed for 211 yards on a career-high and team record 35 carries vs. Chicago, marking his 5th career game with 200+ rushing yards. Peterson s 5 games of 200+ rushing yards are tied for 2nd all-time with Tiki Barber, trailing only trailing O.J. Simpson (6). * Statistical assistance throughout the Vikings weekly release is provided by Stats, Inc. & the NFL

head coach leslie frazier LESLIE FRAZIER NFL Head Coach: 3rd Year Overall NFL Experience: 21st Year Coaching Experience: 26th Year Overall NFL Record: (.387) Regular Season: (.394) Postseason: 0-1 (.000) Record with MIN: (.387) Leslie Frazier led the Vikings to a 2012 Wild Card playoff berth in his 2nd full season coaching the club and shattered outside expectations for a team that underwent a significant roster overhaul and relied on a talented but young core group with veteran leadership at key positions. The 2012 team marked Frazier s 8th team in 14 seasons coaching in the NFL that advanced to the playoffs, 6 of those teams as division winners, and he has suffered only 3 losing seasons. With the unique perspective of a Super Bowl winner as a player and coach, Frazier has a proven track record of success. His 1st title came as a starting CB with the 1985 Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX. Since taking over the head coaching duties of the Vikings for the final 6 games of the 2010 season, Frazier has been committed to building a roster with talent and character that places value on playing smart, team-oriented football. The 2012 Vikings set a franchise record by improving by 7 victories over the season before, finishing 10-6 to earn the 6th seed in the NFC playoffs after a 3-13 campaign in The 2012 team was 1 of 4 participants in the 2012 playoffs that were not in the tournament the season before. The Vikings came together as a team when it mattered most, winning the final 4 games of the regular season, including wins over playoff-bound Houston on the road and against NFC North champion Green Bay at home in the regular season finale. The Vikings counted on several rookies and 2nd-year players making huge contributions. The team started rookies LT Matt Kalil (1st round, #4) and S Harrison Smith (1st round, #29) in all 16 games while rookie kicker Blair Walsh had an NFL record-setting debut season. All 3 newcomers earned All- Rookie honors from the PFWA while 7 players earned Pro Bowl berths- Adrian Peterson, Jerome Felton, Jared Allen, Chad Greenway and Walsh. Peterson and Walsh were 1st-Team All-Pro selections by the Associated Press while Felton and Greenway were 2nd-Team selections. The club started a team-record 5 rookies in the home game vs. Chicago when CB Josh Robinson (3rd round), TE Rhett Ellison (4th round) and WR Jarius Wright (4th round) joined Kalil and Smith in the starting lineup. In his 2 full seasons coaching the Vikings in 2011 and 2012 the team has been witness to some of the top record-setting performances in franchise and NFL history. Adrian Peterson s remarkable comeback from a severe knee injury at the end of 2011 to post one of the most epic rushing seasons in NFL history was a story that captured the attention of the country. Peterson s 2,097 yards rushing ranks 2nd in NFL history. His play on the field and humility off it was an inspiration. If not for Peterson s performance, Walsh s record-setting debut season would have been the story of the team. He broke the NFL record for 50-yard FGs by going 10-of-10 and booted a game winner in the 1st game of the season and in the final regular season game of the season to seal a playoff berth. Walsh s 141 points set a Vikings rookie record and ranks 2nd in NFL history by a rookie. Jared Allen had a record-setting 2011 with 22.0 sacks, setting a new team record and falling just shy of the NFL record of 22.5 en route to finishing runner-up in Associated Press NFL Defensive of the Year honors along with notching a sack in a team-record 13 games during the season. Frazier notched a 3-3 record on an interim basis in the final 6 games of 2010, including winning his opening contest at Washington and an upset win over eventual NFC East champion Philadelphia on the road. His steady and consistent personality and coaching style helped the Vikings prepare weekly under unprecedented circumstances in a harrowing three-week span. The team endured the collapse of the roof on their home stadium, forcing the club to play consecutive home games at Detroit s Ford Field against the NY Giants and at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota against the Chicago Bears. Following the chaotic two weeks, the team experienced a two-day weather delay of a Sunday Night Football game at Philadelphia to Tuesday night, turning a routine road trip into a three-night extended stay. The Vikings 2010 defense ended the season ranked #8 in the NFL, the 3rd straight season the Vikings ranked in the top 10 in total defense for the first time since Offensively, the Vikings were stifled by injuries and started 3 QBs and centers during the season. The running game continued to excel as Pro Bowler Adrian Peterson notched 1,298 yards and 12 TDs. team was forced through injuries to turn to rookie QB Joe Webb to start the final 2 games of the season, winning his debut in an upset at Philadelphia. Frazier s defense led the NFL in 2009 with 48.0 sacks and the team ranks 5th in the NFL with sacks from The Vikings defense ranked #6 in the NFL in 2009, the 2nd straight season ranked #6 in total defense. The mark was the 1st time since the team ranked in the NFL s top 10 in consecutive seasons. The 2009 Vikings used a dynamic front line to continue their tradition of stopping the run and put pressure on opposing QBs. The unit ranked #2 in the NFL against the run after leading the league for the previous 3 seasons. The Vikings tied for the NFL lead by allowing only 5 rushing TDs. The NFL-best 48 sacks posted by the Vikings was the 5th-most in team history and Allen led the way with Allen and DT Kevin Williams were both recognized as Associated Press 1st Team All-Pros and were named to the Pro Bowl along with CB Antoine Winfield. Frazier s 2008 defensive unit ranked #6 overall in the NFL and #1 in the league against the run, making the Vikings the 1st squad since the 1970 AFL/ NFL merger to lead the league in rushing defense for 3 straight seasons. The Vikings #6 rank in total defense was the highest since the 1994 season. Of the teams ranked in the top 6 in the NFL, the other 5 had ranked in the NFL s top 10 in 2007 while the Vikings were #20 in 2007, making a 14-position improvement in The 2008 Vikings defense featured 4 players earning Pro Bowl berths, including 3 defensive linemen with Allen, DTs Kevin Williams and Pat Williams and rounded out with 10th-year CB Winfield earning his 1st Pro Bowl honors. The Vikings dominant line showed prowess as pass rushers as well as against the run. Allen tied for 5th in the NFL with 14.5 sacks and the team total of 45 ranked 4th in the NFL. The Vikings ranked 3rd in the NFL in 2008 by allowing only a 33.5% conversion rate on 3rd down and were 5th in the NFL by allowing 15.8 offensive points per game. In his debut season with the Vikings in 2007, the team maintained its dominance against the run, posting the #1 rush defense in the NFL and allowed a mere 3.1 yards per carry. The anchors of the Vikings defense, DTs Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, were joined by S Darren Sharper as Pro Bowl honorees, the most defensive Vikings to earn trips to Hawaii since Frazier s defense was opportunistic, scoring on 6 interception returns to tie a Vikings record and added a pair of TDs on fumble recoveries. The Vikings 6 scores by interception return ranks tied for 5th-most in a season in NFL history. The team scored on 3 interceptions in a key road game against the NY Giants to set a team record against the eventual Super Bowl XLII champions. The Vikings tied for 3rd in the NFL in 2007 by allowing only 7 rushing TDs and were 5th in the NFC in total offensive points allowed, an average of 17.8 points per game. The 2007 Vikings rush defense was the envy of the NFL, allowing 74.1 yards per game on the ground and allowed only 1 opponent RB to break the 100-yard mark. Frazier came to Minnesota after coaching DBs with Indianapolis and serving as Special Assistant to Head Coach Tony Dungy for 2 seasons. The 2006 Colts defense clamped down on opponents throughout the playoff run that brought the franchise its 1st Super Bowl title since Prior to his tenure with Indianapolis, Frazier served as defensive coordinator with Cincinnati in 2003 and 04 where he helped the Bengals go.500 in consecutive seasons for the 1st time in 12 seasons. Frazier s NFL coaching debut came from with Philadelphia where he worked with the Eagles DBs. Frazier helped CB Troy Vincent earn 4 Pro Bowl berths, S Brian Dawkins went to the game 3 times and Bobby Taylor appear in the all-star game once. The trio all earned Pro Bowl recognition in Frazier was part of an impressive program-building project in Philadelphia that saw the team improve from a 5-11 record in 1999 to 11-5 in 2000, 11-5 in 2001 and 12-4 in The team advanced to the playoffs in each of Frazier s final 3 seasons with the Eagles, including winning the NFC East in 2001 and 02 and advancing to the NFC Championship game in both seasons. As a player, Frazier was part of the legendary Chicago Bears defense that keyed the Super Bowl XX win over New England. He was a starter at CB on the 1985 Super Bowl team and played for the Bears from He led Chicago in interceptions in 1983, 84 and 85 but his career was cut short by a severe knee injury suffered in the Super Bowl. During his career he had 20 INTs in 65 games and returned a pair for TDs. Frazier was an All-America DB and baseball standout at Alcorn State University. In 2007, Frazier was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame and in 2012 he earned induction into the Alcorn State Hall of Fame. Frazier was born (4/3/59) in Columbus, MS and attended S.D. Lee High. Frazier and wife, Gale, have 3 children- Kieron, Chantel and Corey, who plays DB at Rice. He holds a degree in business administration and was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes throughout his playing career. WEEK 15 - EAGLES AT VIKINGS

FROM HEAD COACH LESLIE frazier DECEMBER 16, 2013 Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier It was a pleasure to go back and look at that tape from yesterday s ballgame and to see so many guys step up in the absence of some of our starters. Tremendous team win for our football team. Credit to our players, our coaches, just doing a great job of preparing for a very good football team and coming away with a win at our home field, at Mall of America Field. So a terrific effort by our guys. So many individuals that stepped up on offense and defense. Can t say enough Matt Asiata stepping in in the shoes of a Toby [Gerhart] and Adrian [Peterson] and doing the things that he accomplished and then taking a look at what Matt Cassel was able to get done. Chase Ford stepping up. Number of guys just doing a great job Shaun Prater stepping up and starting. It kind of speaks to some of the things that our coaches have done throughout the year in developing our players. I was asked a number of times this morning and even yesterday about how do those guys go out and perform like that when they haven t had very many snaps in an NFL game other than maybe special teams and part of it goes back to the work that we do post-practice each day with our players. Our coaches staying out afterwards working with our young guys who aren t necessarily starters but we tell them all the time things can change in a hurry in the National Football League to where you could go from not dressing to all of a sudden having to have to be a starter in a ballgame. So we ll keep them after practices and the coaches will work with them and that s one of the ways guys are able to step in and perform the way they performed yesterday. So great job by our players, great job by our coaches as well. We came out pretty good health wise. I don t think we lost anybody for health reasons. The only guy that missed a little bit of time in the game was Cullen Loeffler. I don t know if you remember but Jared [Allen] stepped in and long snapped for us and did a very good job in the one occasion where he had to step in but Cullen should be fine going forward. He came back and finished the ballgame, so that was good news on that front health wise. Q: What do you think of the impact Harrison Smith had coming back from his injury and how that helped you to keep their passing attack under wraps for a while? A: Yeah, I thought Harrison s presence made a big difference. He s such a common influence on our entire defense and our secondary in particular. Some of the things he does that doesn t show up in the stat sheet just his moving around, being in position and discouraging quarterbacks by just his movement some times where he s bluffing like he might be coming on a blitz or showing where he might be in the box to discourage a run and all of a sudden he s back in the half-field position. His presence helps us all, so it was great to have him back. Q: Did you play him more than you anticipated? A: Yeah, a lot of more than we anticipated. We d ask him after each series especially the type of offense they were running how do you feel, what do you think and he wanted to go back out there and he did good. He did a great job. Q: Are any of the players that sat out yesterday in jeopardy of not playing at Cincinnati? A: I think most guys will be back. I don t know if anybody off the top of my head is in jeopardy. I think we should get most guys back for practice on Wednesday. Xavier, we may have to wait and see on him. He s the one that may not be sure about today. Q: What happened with Josh Robinson s injury that caused him to move to Injured Reserve? A: Just hasn t recovered fast enough. We re running out of time so we needed to get some other guys up and he s one of those guys that we didn t think was going to make it back where initial we were hoping that he would but wasn t going to work out. Q: What happened in practice that caused Chris Cook s knee injury? A: He just was planting on a route and getting ready to drive on a route and felt his knee tweak and ended up going and getting an MRI and had a bone bruise and struggled to get through that. We worked him out before the ballgame, just struggled with the pain so we had to get Shaun up and get him ready to go. Q: What have you seen from Matt Cassel that has allowed him to be so successful? A: He does a great job of studying for one and understanding what the looks are that you re going to get and having an idea of what coverages you re going to get as well. He knows where to go with the football in pre-snap and he gets it out of hands because of it. They ran a zero pressure yesterday that was a great example of it where they re going to have a free guy, he sees it in pre-snap, he knows exactly where his hot [route] is and where he has to get the football to and just like that he negates the zero pressure free blitzer because he gets the ball out so fast and he doesn t hesitate. He knows exactly where it has to go and that s his veteran experience and the confidence he has that he can make those plays. Q: How much does that preparation allow him to stay in the pocket and not get rattled? A: That s part of it the preparation part but I also think the experience factor. If you were to ask him when he was a 2nd or 3rd-year quarterback how he would have handled those situations it might be a little different but he s been in those situations a number of times and he knows if he can just buy another second when you ve got a guy like a Greg Jennings or a Cordarrelle Patterson those guys are going to get open if they re playing single-high safety and he has enough poise to maintain his composure and makes some plays. Q: Does that change at all how you can gameplan? The offense looked to be a little more open yesterday. A: To some degree but a lot of it goes with what Adrian s absence meant to us and also the type of defense we were playing. They were an attacking, freestyling defense that allowed you some things if you could take advantage of it in the secondary and we saw that and our guys were able to take advantage of it. But his communication with the coaches definitely helps in between series, what he thinks is available. His knowledge of the passing offense definitely helps as he s giving input about some things he s seeing on the field. Q: Did Shaun Prater play well enough to maybe start ahead of Chris Cook? A: I don t know about that for sure but he played well. He did a good job. We re going to sit back and evaluate his performance and see where Chris is physically as well. We think he s going to be fine going forward but we ll get on the field and find out on Wednesday. Q: Was Chris Cook not playing due to pain tolerance or risk of structural damage? A: There was no structural issues that I was told, more of dealing with the things you have to do as a defensive back plant, turn without thinking. You can t be worried about the pain. The fact that he was having trouble planting and driving, getting out of his back pedal, that s a problem as a defensive back. Q: How frustrating has it been with all of the injuries throughout his career and how he s left you hanging quite a few times? A: Well, a big part of what we do is availability. You can have talent but if you re not available then it kind of negates what you re trying to get done as a player and it really makes it tough for your teammates as well. I know he s trying to get out there, he s trying to do the best he can to help our team and unfortunately he wasn t able to help us in this last ballgame. Fortunately for us we had guys that stepped up and played well for us. Q: You guys are closing the season playing 3 potential division leaders (Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Detroit). How is it that when a team is out of playoff contention and gets to wreck the playoff hopes of other teams? Is that an added incentive? A: It isn t an incentive from my perspective. I m not even paying attention to where those teams are. We re taking it one game at a time and you re approaching that opponent for who they are whether they were in the playoffs, out of the playoffs, I don t think it would change our approach. I don t think it changed our approach yesterday with the guys that had to play. Q: Do you notice that players might like to play the role of spoiler? A: Well we don t use that word spoiler in our conversation. We re trying our very best to work as hard as we can to get a win for our team and it s nothing to do with the impact it would have on any other team, just trying to get a win for our team. WEEK 15 - EAGLES AT VIKINGS

FROM HEAD COACH LESLIE frazier Q: Jerome Simpson said something yesterday one of the officials said something to your players that he thought was uncalled for. Is that something you feel that you need to look into? A: I ve spoken to Jerome on that and I think we re pretty clear on what was going on and I think he s done a good job of moving on from that. I feel better about it after having a chance to talk with him about it. Q: Do you know what happened there? A: There was a situation where there was a taunting called against him and so some of it traced back to that and I think we ve got that cleared up. Hopefully we won t experience that in the next couple of ballgames. Q: Did you get a feel for what the official was saying to him and even some of his teammates? A: Yeah, after hearing the conversation it s much more than it needed to be. I don t think it ll come to a whole lot. We ll see. Q: You talk about Cassel s success and you talk about preparation and experience but is there something about his personality because some guys that are in that situation can t handle it with such humility and with such patience? He says he never looks backwards or forwards, he just takes each game. Is there something special about him as a person that has happened with his success? A: I do think he has some strong leadership qualities and some of your better leaders at that position are guys that are able to just focus on the now and not get caught up in the what-ifs and what could have been. He s one of those guys that can really concentrate on the moment and that s not easy to do. There are so many things that can enter into your play as quarterback that can create negative thoughts and he s done a good job of just moving on from some of those moments. Part of it has to do with his experience and part of it is he s a good leader. He understands the importance of staying focused on the task and having confidence because as a leader those people around you, they re going to feed off of that confidence and he plays like that. Q: Is there something about Matt Cassel s personality that has helped him to this recent success? A: I do think he has some strong leadership qualities. Some of your better leaders at that position are guys that are able to just focus on the now and not get caught up in the what-ifs and what could have been and he s one of those guys who can really concentrate on the moment and that s not easy to do. There are so many things that can enter in to your play as a quarterback that can create negative thoughts. He s done a good job of just moving on from some of those moments and part of it has to do with his experience in this league and part of it is he s a good leader. He understand the importance of staying focused on the task and having confidence because, as a leader, those people around you, they re going to feed off of that confidence and he plays off of that. Q: Yesterday more points were scored than any other week in NFL history. Do you coach any differently knowing that points are going up and up? A: We did think about that week as we approached the Eagles. They are an explosive offense and we did talk about we re going to need to score a lot of points. But it just seems as you look at the numbers around the league, scoring is up. It was up a season ago and it s going to be up again this year. That s the trend in our league. It s becoming tougher and tougher to hold teams to 10 points or 13 points in a ball game. I just think that you have to be aware that you re going to need to score some points on offense because the league has trended to more of an offensive league, so you have to find ways to take advantage of that and score. Q: Are there examples of risks that you take now that you wouldn t have five years ago? A: I think you see a lot more teams going for it on fourth down situations where as in the past they might not have just because of this trend. People are throwing the ball on third and one a lot more, third and two a lot more than they would have in years past because of how liberal the rules are when it comes to defensive pass interference and some of the other things that have occur and the jamming of receivers. Passing is up, scoring is up and I don t see that changing for a while. Q: Have the rules gone too far to where it s too open? A: The game is so popular and that s what kind of drives the engine. It s working in that way and I don t know if it will change. The popularity of our league really drives what happens for all of us that are involved so I m not sure it will change anytime soon. Q: You guys haven t won an actually road game this year. Do you emphasize that this week? A: You re right about that. We are going to emphasize it. We want to win this final road game. It s important. It s our next game on our schedule and we are going to emphasize it for sure. Q: Do you have an update on John Carlson? A: He is doing some work today, this afternoon actually. We ll know more after these tests that he s taking today. Q: The Eagles said you played more man than what they expected. Was that a product of who was available in the defensive backfield or are you trying to incorporate that more into the broader scheme of what you re doing defensively? A: Well, it was more strategic. We looked at what they were doing on tape and we felt like if we had any chance of slowing down that offense this is what we needed to do. After watching how they had exposed a number of teams that did some other things a little bit different we said this is what we have to do and we tried to prepare our players to execute and, boy, they did a real good job for the most part throughout the day. Q: What does it mean to you as a coach seeing the team go out every week and battle even though the season hasn t gone your way? A: I ll tell you, when I talked with them after the game when we were in the locker room I told them how proud I am of the way they have continued to compete. They come out here and practice hard every time we get on the field. They don t get caught up in the what-ifs and what could have been. They work as hard as they can to focus on that opponent. We talked about it on Saturday night. We had a couple of our players stand up, John Sullivan, Phil Loadholt, Matt Cassel, Kevin Williams, Jared Allen, just talked about why we re going to work as hard as we can on this Sunday, and this was on Saturday night, to win this game and why that game was important to the people in that room. It was a very emotional time and then to see them come out and play the way they did with the odds so stacked against them, it makes you very, very proud of every one of those guys in the locker room. No matter what happens at the end of this season or in the future, they have my respect. Q: What kind of message were those veteran guys giving Saturday night? A: Each one put their own twist on it, but in general, just how important it is to go out and do the very best that you can every single game because there is no guarantee that there is a game after this. This career can be over so quick and most of the guys in that room know that because one play can lead to the end of a career. So to hear a John Sullivan or a Jared or a Kevin Williams talk about why this game is important to them in Week 14 or 15 when you re out of the playoffs, that had to mean something to our young guys as well, to hear them talk about the importance of the game late in the season when you re not a playoff team, competing for a playoff spot. They stressed that part of it. If nothing else, you do it for your family and your friends who are watching this game and pulling for you, so it was encouraging. Q: What specifically did Shaun Prater do that allowed him to be successful? A: He just played hard and played smart. Even that interception that he had they re running kind of a deceptive play, sending a guy to the post, he s a deep-third defender and he doesn t follow the guy to the post, he knows that Harrison (Smith) is there and I don t have to chase this receiver. And there is DeSean Jackson coming up the sideline coming up the sideline behind him and rather than following a guy he doesn t have to cover, he s smart enough and aware enough to fall off and make a great play. Usually that s a guy who has been playing a while and has been in that situation a number of times that makes that play, but his awareness and his acute alertness to what needed to happen was impressive to see. He made some other plays too that just shows you that he a very aware guy and a very smart football player. Q: At what point did Matt Cassel enter back into the picture as a guy you would look to as the starter? A: Looking at the guys who had been playing, primarily Christian, just seeing some of the ups and downs of his play and then when the injury occurred, I think it was Chicago he had the injury, Matt got back in and played very well for us down the stretch. Made some big time plays in that fourth quarter and overtime as WEEK 15 - EAGLES AT VIKINGS

FROM HEAD COACH LESLIE frazier well. He s done that coming in a relief role and so now you say, Okay, we need to see him in a lead role on a consistent basis and see how he does in that role as well, but he s shown in relief he can be very, very good. He s been a starter before, I think Chris (Tomasson) asked me last week why hadn t it worked out in the past for him, but he s showed and he s shown us that he can be in that starter role, he can have success. It helps to have some guys around you like Cordarrelle (Patterson), Adrian and eventually Mr. (Kyle) Rudolph as well. He did a good job yesterday and he s done a good job for us here in Minnesota. Q: What have you seen from the pass protection that Cassel received? A: I thought our protection overall was pretty good. We had some moments at times where it wasn t ideal, but overall I thought we did a really good job. The offensive line handled some of the stuff that they gave us. They are a multiple front team. They give you a lot of different looks, a lot of movement and for the most part, I thought we handled it well. Q: Were there parts in the middle of the season where you wanted to see something in particular from Christian Ponder? A: Every time you put him out there you want to see him keep growing and keep getting better and that was a big part of why he was in that starting role. You want to see him just keep growing and do some of the things he did for us in the month of December a year ago. He helped us tremendously to get into the playoffs a year ago, so you want to build on that and watch him just continue to grow. He did some good things, but consistency and what you re always looking for. WEEK 15 - EAGLES AT VIKINGS

VIKINGS-EAGLES GAME INFORMATION MARVIN LEWIS NFL Head Coach: 11th Year Overall NFL Experience: 22nd Year Coaching Experience: 33rd Year Overall NFL Record: (.497) Regular Season: (.508) Postseason: 0-4 Record with CIN: (.508) Record vs. MIN: 1-1 College: Idaho State 81 Marvin Lewis in 2013 extends his Bengalsrecord head coaching tenure to 11 seasons. He has led his team to the postseason in three of the last four years, making the Bengals one of only seven teams to make three or more playoff trips in that span. Lewis opens 13 with 79 career victories, most in Bengals history by a margin of 15 over Sam Wyche (64). His record is in the regular season and including postseason. The Bengals went 10-6 in the 2012 regular season, tying eventual Super Bowl winner Baltimore for the best record in the AFC North Division. Cincinnati was a Wild Card playoff entry for the second straight year. Though the past two seasons have ended with first-round playoff losses at Houston, the team remains on an upward trajectory entering 13. The 12 team rocketed into the playoffs with a 7-1 record in the season s second half, tying the 1981 Super Bowl team for the best second half by a Cincinnati team in a 16-game season. The 2012 Bengals achieved a rare NFL feat, becoming only the ninth of 131 teams since 1990 to rise from a 3-5 start to the playoffs. Cincinnati s defense ranked sixth in the NFL last season in fewest yards allowed, with a club-record 51 sacks, and though the offense s overall numbers did not match the defense, further strides are fully expected from a unit whose 11 starters in the playoff game included eight with four or fewer years of NFL experience. The Bengals were widely forecast as a non-contender in 2011, but Lewis fielded a young squad with new stars that posted a 9-7 mark to reach the playoffs. Long regarded among the NFL s top defensive minds, Lewis in 2011 brought on a new offensive coordinator in Jay Gruden, and over the last two years four Cincinnati offensive players have made one or more Pro Bowls. Gruden returns to the Bengals for 2013 after two years of being among candidates for head coaching jobs elsewhere in the NFL, and the same is true for Mike Zimmer, the defensive coordinator Lewis chose in Lewis s 11-season total as Bengals head coach is three more than the second-place total of eight shared by Wyche and Paul Brown. Lewis has risen to second in the NFL in longest current tenure with one team, trailing only Bill Belichick, who is in his 14th-straight season with New England. In the category of most seasons as head coach with any team, Lewis in 2013 ranks seventh among active coaches. Lewis was the consensus choice as NFL Coach of the Year in 2009, when the Bengals won the AFC North title while sweeping all six division games. The Bengals were AFC North champions under Lewis also in Named the ninth head coach in Bengals history on Jan. 14, 2003, Lewis started quickly. His 03 club finished 8-8, six games better than the 02 club, good for the biggest improvement in the NFL. Lewis finished second (behind Belichick of Super Bowl champion New England) in Associated Press Coach of the Year voting. Lewis came to the Bengals with credentials as a record-setting NFL defensive coordinator, having played a huge role in a championship season. His six seasons ( ) as Baltimore Ravens coordinator included a Super Bowl victory in 2000, when his defense set the NFL record for fewest points allowed in a 16-game campaign (165). That team clipped 22 points off the previous mark. The 2000 Ravens are always an entry in discussions regarding the best NFL defensive units of all time. In 2002, the season before he joined the Bengals, Lewis led the Washington Redskins to a No. 5 NFL defensive ranking, serving as assistant head coach as well as defensive coordinator. He had his first NFL assignment from , as linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He aided the development of four Pro Bowl players Kevin Greene, Chad Brown, Levon Kirkland and Greg Lloyd. Lewis began his coaching career as linebackers coach at his alma mater, Idaho State, from ISU s team (also nicknamed the Bengals) finished 12-1 in Lewis s first season there and won the NCAA Division 1-AA championship. Lewis played LB at Idaho State, earning All-Big Sky Conference honors for three consecutive years ( ). He also saw action at quarterback and free safety during his college career. He received his bachelor s degree in physical education from Idaho State in 1981, and earned his master s in athletic administration in 82. He was inducted into Idaho State s Hall of Fame in Born Sept. 23, 1958, Lewis attended Fort Cherry High School in McDonald, Pa. (near Pittsburgh), where he was an all-conference quarterback and safety. He also earned high school letters in wrestling and baseball. 9 2013 VIKINGS COACHING STAFF BILL MUSGRAVE Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave, entering his 3rd season as the Vikings offensive coordinator, led an offense that tied the franchise record with 2,634 rushing yards. The 2012 season also saw great improvements by QB Christian Ponder in his 1st full season as a starter and 2nd under the tutelage of Musgrave. Ponder made strides during his sophomore season throwing 1 less interception and improving both his completion percentage (54.3 to 62.1) and his QB rating (70.1 to 81.2). Ponder started all 16 regular season games and was the only player to attempt a pass for the first time since nd year TE Kyle Rudolph also had a career year setting new career highs in catches (53), receiving yards (493) and TDs (9). The 2011 Vikings offense tallied 75 rushes of 10+ yards, keeping defenses off balance through creative personnel packages. WR Percy Harvin s role in the offense was greatly enhanced as the 3rd-year player set a career-high with 87 receptions, the 6th-most in the NFL for the season and 4th-most among WRs. Harvin set a Vikings record with 52 carries for 345 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, ranking among the NFL s all-time leaders for rushing by a WR. A former NFL signal-caller himself, Musgrave was a backup to Joe Montana and Steve Young in San Francisco from , working under coaches Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan and Gary Kubiak. He played from with Denver where he backed up John Elway when Shanahan took over the reins as Broncos head coach. With Atlanta from , Musgrave helped mold the Falcons offense, highlighted by an impressive 2010 season, leading the way for a 13-3 regular season mark. Prior to coaching in Atlanta, Musgrave worked with the Redskins QBs in Musgrave worked with Jacksonville in , serving as offensive coordinator/qbs coach. During the 1999 and 2000 campaigns, Musgrave worked with the QBs in Carolina and also served as offensive coordinator in 2000 under George Seifert. The duo reached the pinnacle following the 2006 season when the Colts won Super Bowl XLI over Chicago. Williams got his first taste of NFL coaching in 2001 with Tampa Bay as part of Tony Dungy s staff, who he followed to Indianapolis the following season. In Williams decade working with the Colts DBs, the club ranked in the top 6 in NFL passing defense 5 times and finished out of the top 15 only once. The Colts playoff success was in part due in part to the defense snaring interceptions at record rate. In the 9 straight Colts playoff appearances from the team snared 18 INTs, 2nd in the NFL over that span to only New England s 22. From the Colts allowed 20+ TD passes only 2 times and had 10+ INTs each year. Williams got his break as an NFL coach in 2001 with Tampa Bay under head coach Tony Dungy where he joined a defensive staff that included Monte Kiffin and Mike Tomlin along with John Lynch, Ronde Barber and Donnie Abraham in the backfield. Williams grew to pursue football as a career during 9 seasons as a player and coach at William & Mary.
