The team enters this week s game against the Minnesota Vikings on a four-game win streak. Over their past nine games played, both the 49ers and Vikings have won seven games apiece to rank tied for second in the NFL for most wins during that time span. Aside from the 49ers, each team that has won at least seven of their last nine regular season games had made it to the playoffs in San Francisco is coming off a victory over Seattle to start the season with a 2-0 record. It marks the second time in the last 12 seasons (1998, 2007) that the 49ers have started off the season with two victories. A win this upcoming week against Minnesota would result in San Francisco going 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 1998, an eventual 12-4 season. 49ERS 2009 MEDIA GUIDE TOTAL WINS OVER PAST 9 REGULAR SEASON GAMES TEAM WINS 1. 3 THE HEAD COACHES Mike Singletary is in his first full season as the head coach of the 49ers. A two-time Defensive Player of the Year (1985 &1988), Singletary played 12 seasons ( ) for the Chicago Bears and earned countless honors, including 10 consecutive Pro Bowl nods and eight first-team All-Pro selections. After retiring in 1993, he decided to take time away from the game to raise a family. In 2003, Singletary broke into the coaching ranks as the inside linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens. He then moved on to the 49ers in 2005, where he served as the assistant head coach and linebackers coach. A year later, he was elevated to assistant head coach/defense, a title which he held until taking over as the 49ers head coach midway through the 2008 season. He went on to compile a 5-4 record that year, which included victories in five of the final seven contests of the season. The Vikings run defense has ranked No. 1 since Childress was hired in 2005, allowing just 70.8 yards per game during that span and becoming the only team to lead the league in rushing defense three years in a row since the AFL-NFL merger in Before being named head coach of the Vikings, Childress served as offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles ( ). With Childress guiding the offense the Eagles flourished, culminating in a regular season record including an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX, in PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS VS. vikings WR ISAAC BRUCE - Had 4th highest receiving total in his career with 192 receiving yds. on 11 catches and 1 TD vs. Min. DT DEMETRIC EVANS - Has posted 2.5 sacks and 1 FF in three games against Minnesota. THE LAST TIME MINNESOTA 27, SAN FRANCISCO 7 At San Francisco, CA, December 9, 2007 The Minnesota Vikings jumped to a 27-0 halftime lead and held on for a 27-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Monster Park. Turnovers once again plagued the 49ers with five giveaways (four fumbles and one interception) that resulted in 10 Minnesota points. After yielding 226 total yards in the first half, the 49ers defense held Minnesota to just 54 total yards and just six yards rushing in the final two quarters. Minnesota entered the game with the top ranked rushing attack in the NFL behind NFL-leader RB Adrian Peterson. The 49ers defense held Peterson to just three yards on 14 attempts. The game got off to an inauspicious start for San Francisco. On the first play from scrimmage TE Vernon Davis was called for a false start penalty. On the next play, DT Kevin Williams tipped and intercepted a QB Trent Dilfer pass and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown to take a quick 7-0 lead. The Vikings scored on four of their seven first half possessions to build their 27-0 halftime lead. Minnesota s big first half was aided by a RB Frank Gore fumble deep inside San Francisco territory that led to a field goal, and an 84-yard touchdown run by RB Chester Taylor. Two 55-yard kickoff returns by RB Maurice Hicks and a fumble recovery at the Minnesota 28-yard-line allowed the 49ers to start three first half drives inside Minnesota territory. Despite the good field position, the 49ers did not come away with any points. The 49ers had three drives into Minnesota territory in the second half that all resulted in turnovers. Dilfer took a shot to his head on a fourth-down attempt that was stopped short at the Minnesota nine-yard line with 29 seconds left to play in the first half and did not return to the game. QB Shaun Hill saw the first significant action of his six-year NFL career. Hill, who finished 22-of- 28 for 180 yards, completed six-of-seven pass attempts on his first series and capped the drive with a five-yard touchdown pass to WR Arnaz Battle. 4 SING-ING HIS PRAISES Head coach Mike Singletary is known to be the 49ers living, breathing quote machine. Whether it s a stirring pre-game speech, a mid-practice pep talk or an enthusiastic post-game press conference, the Hall of Famer knows how to passionately deliver a message. With more than a week of Camp Singletary under their belts, the new head coach s pupils sounded off about the man charged with leading them back to greatness. When asked to give a word that best describes Singletary, none of these team leaders stopped at one. Go figure the word intense came up multiple times. Linebacker Patrick Willis - Perfectionist. We expect to be in the Super Bowl under coach Singletary s guidance, that s the God s honest truth. The way we ve gone about working, the time that we ve put in and the way that he s forming this team as one, is not something that you do just to win games but to build a championship team. Center Eric Heitmann - Committed. Coach Singletary is a tremendous motivator and leader. He is incredibly driven and I really admire the way that he s brought this team together and made it more of a family atmosphere amongst the players. Running Back Frank Gore - Indescribable. I like that he keeps it 100% with the team. He knows what we need to do if we want to be one of the elite teams in this league. I know that he cares about what we do out there. I know that if we re doing the right thing, it s going to carry over to the field on Sundays. Tight End Vernon Davis - No nonsense. He wants us to be a family and stick together, be there for one another and just play this game the way it is supposed to be played. Tackle Joe Staley - Intense. If you know Singletary, you know that he s known for his intensity and being physical with an F, as he puts it. Everybody sees his fire, his passion and his intensity for football. The passion that he brings rubs off on this organization and it s exciting. Quarterback Shaun Hill - Champion. The thing that I really like and respect about him is he s completely open and honest with us. I hope that this team, under his tutelage, continues to gel and mold and turn into the team that he envisions us to be. I think we re on our way to doing that. Cornerback Nate Clements - Old-school. He played the game. He s one of those coaches that has been to the Super Bowl and has experienced what we re trying to achieve here. We listen to what he has to say because he s already experienced what we re trying to accomplish. Returner Allen Rossum - Intense. He s set such a high standard that we re all buying into. He s giving you a chance to reach the potential that you probably never thought that you could reach. Safety Michael Lewis - Strong. With coach Singletary every small detail counts and it leads to the success of the team. What we re trying to build here is a family atmosphere where we can trust one another and also play for one another. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY When 49ers head coach Mike Singletary was filling out his coaching staff this past offseason, he sought individuals who could not only teach, but also inspire. He went on to add five new faces to what he considered an already special group of coaches, while also elevating Johnnie Lynn to the position of special assistant to the head coach/secondary. Offensive Coordinator - Jimmy Raye Raye rejoins the 49ers after originally serving as the San Francisco s wide receivers coach in He has over 30 years of NFL coaching experience, including a total of 12 years as an offensive coordinator for several teams: Los Angeles Rams ( , 91), Tampa Bay Bucs ( ), New England Patriots (1990), Kansas City Chiefs ( ), Washington Redskins (2001) and Oakland Raiders ( ). When I sat down and listened to what he had to say, in terms of what his philosophy was and the conviction behind it, he talked about the physicality that the offense has to have. He talked about the toughness, both mentally and physically, that the offense has to have. The discipline it takes to do those things. That to me, that was something that we were really excited about. - Mike Singletary Pass Rush Specialist - Al Harris Harris, who is in his first season as an NFL coach, enjoyed a stellar 11- year playing career with the Chicago Bears ( , 86-88) and Philadelphia Eagles ( ). Al Harris greatest attribute is as a teacher. We re excited about the addition of Al because our players will benefit from his teaching ability, in terms of the strategy and methodology of what goes into the pass rush. - Mike Singletary Offensive Assistant - Jason Michael Michael brings both NFL and collegiate coaching experience to San Francisco. Prior to joining the 49ers, he served as the tight ends coach at the University of Tennessee in 2008, after coaching two years ( ) with the New York Jets and one season with the Raiders (2005). I have familiarity with Jason from my time with the Raiders and Jets. He s an extremely organized individual with innate intelligence. Jason has a great feel for defensive game-planning and the type of football we d like to run. He s very much a parrt of what we do. - Jimmy Raye Running Backs - Tom Rathman Rathman is in his 2nd coaching stint with the 49ers, having coached running backs for San Francisco In five of his six seasons with the team, the 49ers rushing attack finished in the top 10 among NFL teams. As a player, Rathman helped the 49ers win two Super Bowl Championships and seven NFC West titles during a playing career that spanned nine years ( ). I think Tom has developed a good rapport with all the running backs, getting to know who they are and coaching them hard, and at the same time being that father figure when you have to listen and help them work through things. - Mike Singletary Inside Linebackers - Vantz Singletary Singletary joins the 49ers after coaching 17 seasons in the collegiate ranks. In 2008, he served as the defensive tackles coach at the University of Buffalo, where he helped lead the school to its first ever bowl appearance. Vantz has had a tremendous career during his many seasons as a collegiate coach. I am confident that the way he has worked with young football players during that extensive experience will translate into success as he embarks on his NFL coaching career. - Mike Singletary

5 WHAT TO LOOK FOR WR ISAAC BRUCE Needs 4 more starts to reach 200 for his career. RB FRANK GORE Needs 322 rushing yards to become just the 5th player in franchise history to register 5,000 career rushing yards. Needs 23 attempts to reach 1,000 career attempts. Ranks 10th in franchise history with 6,160 yards from scrimmage in his career. He needs 504 yards to pass WR Gene Washington for 9th on the all-time list. QB SHAUN HILL With a win, will improve his record as a starter to Reaching 10 wins in 13 starts will be the fastest in franchise history. K JOE NEDNEY With 998 career points, Nedney is two points shy of reaching the 1,000 point plateau for his career. He will be the 42nd player in NFL history to reach this milestone. S MARK ROMAN Roman extending his streak to 99 consecutive games played. He ranks 2nd in the NFL among safeties for consecutive games played (Deon Grant, SEA 130). CB ALLEN ROSSUM Ranks 9th in NFL history with 3,037 punt return yards and needs 133 punt return yards to move into 8th place in the all-time annals. DT JUSTIN SMITH Extending his consecutive games started streak to 126. He leads all defensive linemen with 125 consecutive starts. TRUE IDENTITY One of the first orders of business 49ers head coach Mike Singletary wanted to address this offseason was the creation of an identity. The identity that we wanted to achieve this offseason, Singletary said, was to be a physical football team, to be a tough football team, to be relentless, to be disciplined and to be smart. I think we ve proven that we can be a physical team, and we have to carry that into the season, game in and game out. We have to be tough, relentless and smart. As a quarterback I have to be smart, and I take being relentless to heart. Sometimes things don t always go the way you want them to, but as long as you re relentless and keep hacking at it, I feel that at the end of the game, we ll be on top. QB Shaun Hill We are building an identity of Champions. That s what our main focus has been about all offseason. Since the time Coach Singletary has taken over, it hasn t been about let s just win a few more games than we won last year or let s just be a little bit better, but let s be Champions and let s train like Champions. LB Patrick Willis We want to be known as a physical, fearless, relentless, smart and disciplined team that has a lot of toughness. We re coming in here every day and working hard and treating every play with physicalness. We want to be known as a smash-mouth team that doesn t beat themselves. I think that we ve accomplished that during this training camp. We ve identified 53 guys that are best qualified to meet those standards. T Joe Staley We have a fast, physical, smart team that will fight you throughout four quarters, and if there is a case where we happened to get knocked down or lose a fight, we have so much. I think as a group we are so relentless that we will continue to come back until you quit. - LB Takeo Spikes INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS PLAYER NFL RK NFC RK WR ISAAC BRUCE Receptions (8) 46t 22t Receiving Yards (109) Third-down Receptions (5) 3t 2t CB NATE CLEMENTS Interceptions (1) 10t 8t FS DASHON GOLDSON Interceptions (1) 10t 8t RB FRANK GORE Rushing Yards (237) 3 2 Receptions (8) 46t 22t Third-down Receptions (5) 3t 2t Leading Scorers, non-kickers (24) 1t 1t Most Yards from Scrimmage (294) 4t 2t First-down Leaders (9) 17t 8t Most Rushing Yards, Single Game (207) 1 1 LB PARYS HARALSON Sacks (1.0) 21t 13t QB SHAUN HILL Passer Rating (87.8) th Quarter Passer Rating (102.1) 10 6 Third-down Passer Rating (123.4) 3 3 P ANDY LEE Punting Average (48.1) 9 7 Net Punting Average (41.4) 10 5 DT RAY MCDONALD Sacks (2) 5t 2t PK JOE NEDNEY Leading scorers, kickers (19) 5t 3t Touchbacks on kickoffs (2) 11t 7t CB ALLEN ROSSUM Punt Return Average (7.2) Kickoff Return Average (20.0) DT JUSTIN SMITH Sacks (1) 21t 13t LB PATRICK WILLIS Interceptions (1) 10t 8t

6 RAYE OF LIGHT With over 30 years of NFL coaching experience, Jimmy Raye is looking to maximize the 49ers potential on offense as San Francisco s offensive coordinator. Raye spent the offseason meticulously breaking down film in an effort to pinpoint the team s strengths. Rather than employ a specific scheme upon his arrival, Raye installed an offense that was built around the team s players. Jimmy s definitely going to call games to our strengths and the personnel we have, said QB Shaun Hill. The offense we are running, with the way Jimmy teaches it, he is preaching the perfection of the offense, as opposed to having a million plays. I think that is really helping us out. We are able to go out there and run these plays numerous amounts of times and really get the details down. Raye is no stranger to the role of offensive coordinator, having held the post for a total of 12 years during his coaching career. It wasn t as much his experience, as it was Raye s philosophy and vision that impressed 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary during the search process. When I sat down and listened to what he had to say in terms of his philosophy and the conviction behind it, he talked about the physicality that the offense has to have, said Singletary. He talked about the toughness, both mentally and physically, that the offense has to have. The discipline it takes to do those things. That to me, that was something we were really excited about. in the trenches The 49ers have size and strength along their offensive line, with an average height of over 6 4 and average weight of pounds among the starting unit. They also have youth on their side. C Eric Heitmann, the old man of the group, is just 29 years old; G David Baas and T Adam Snyder are each 27; T Joe Staley is 24; and G Chilo Rachal is 23. I m excited for them and think they re going to continue to jell and continue to get better, said head coach Mike Singletary. The leaders of the offensive line are Heitmann and Staley. Heitmann, one of the longest-tenured 49ers, has been a mainstay on the offensive line since being drafted in the seventh round in He started his 100th game last week and has a current streak of 34 consecutive starts. Staley, a first-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, has played every possible snap on offense since entering the league. WHAT A RUSH The 49ers dramatically moved up the league rushing charts following the Seattle game, improving from 32nd to 9th in the NFL for rushing. After being limited to 21 rushing yards against Arizona in the season opener, the 49ers ground game exploded against Seattle. San Francisco rushed for 256 yards on 29 carries (8.8 avg.), which was the highest rushing total by the 49ers since a 262-yard performance against Seattle on November 19, In both games, RB Frank Gore stole the show, totaling a career-high 246 yards from scrimmage this past week after having recorded a career-high 212 rushing yards in He also joined Barry Sanders as the only players to record two touchdown carries of over 75+ yards in a single game. The team s 8.8 yards per carry against the Seahawks ranks as the 2nd-highest average for a single game in franchise history. HIGHEST AVERAGE PER CARRY IN SINGLE GAME, 49ERS HISTORY GAME ATT YDS AVG 1. vs. Dallas Texans, 10/26/ vs. Seattle, 9/20/ vs. New York Jets, 9/6/ vs. Atlanta, 9/19/ STRETCHING The FielD The 49ers receiving corps is considered to be the deepest it has been in years. The group was able to stretch the field in 2008, and looks to continue that trend in YARDS PER RECEPTION ( ) TEAM REC YDS AVG 1. 11 13 SHAUN HILL QUARTERBACK king of the hill After finishing the 2008 season winning four of the last five games and a solid performance throughout the offseason and training camp, QB Shaun Hill was named the starting quarterback for the 2009 season. Became the first player in franchise history to have 2 runs of over 79 yards in the same game vs. Sea. (9/20). GOLDMINE: Frank s determination to run over defenders comes from his tough upbringing in Miami, FL. Some considered his football career over when he suffered two serious knee injuries at the University of Miami. He relied, however, on his mother Liz s strength to help him through. She had been on dialysis (awaiting a kidney transplant) since I was in the 11th grade and raised three kids as a single woman, Frank said. Unfortunately, Liz lost her battle with kidney disease before the 49ers second game of the 2007 season against the St. Louis Rams. Playing with a heavy heart, Frank responded by rushing for 81 yds. and 2 TDs, including a 43-yd. score on a 4th-and-1 carry, helping the 49ers to a victory. has spent the past summers running hills in Miami with a truck tire tethered to his torso as part of his training regimen. emind himself of the kind of running back he was in high school. With a phenomenal work ethic and tremendous attitude, Gore has hit the ground running and is anxious to start playing games. I feel fast, strong, ready, Gore said. Every time I m on the field, I envision being in the game. I feel great. I feel the more reps, the more comfortable I will be. I m ready to play ball. Gore s efforts and ability have been noticed by everyone, especially new offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. He has been one of the best workers in preparation, since we started this training camp, Raye said. I think he has the eye of the tiger this year. From what I ve seen, his work ethic has been outstanding and he s looking forward to a good year, and we are looking forward to him having one. Raye is entering his 33rd season in the NFL and he has coached some of the greatest running backs of all-time, including Hall of Famers Marcus Allen and Eric Dickerson. As he watches Gore on the field, Raye knows that he has all the tools to be one of the best to ever play the game. From what I ve seen of him, he has all the criteria, all the prerequisites, to be a top guy, Raye said of Gore. He has it talent-wise, and he has the passion to be a top-level guy, be in the upper echelon of backs that have played in the NFL.

15 21 FRANK GORE RUNNING BACK CONTINUED... ONe Great Day In the offseason, RB Frank Gore went back to his roots, to the University of Miami to prepare for this season. Having to drive over an hour to-andfrom the facility every day, Gore was determined to be in better shape than he was in 2006, when he led the NFC with 1,695 rushing yards. In the home opener vs. Seattle (9/20), all of that hard work and determination came out. Gore paced the 49ers attack, rushing for 207 yds. on 16 car. (12.9 avg.) and 2 TDs in a win vs. Seattle. Gore began his day by setting a new career-long with a 79-yd. TD run in the first quarter. On the first play of the third quarter, he broke his career-long record again with an 80-yd. TD run. With his second TD run of the day, Gore joined RB Barry Sanders (at Tampa Bay (80, 82) on 10/12/97) as the only players in NFL history to register two touchdown runs of 75-plus yards in the same game. It is a great honor to be mentioned alongside Barry Sanders, but I have to give up props to my offensive line, said Gore. They did a great job. And the receivers, they did a great job downfield. As an offense, we just have to keep moving forward from this game here. Gore s average of 12.9 yards per carry is the second-best single-game average in franchise history (min. 10 carries). It was also the thirdhighest single-game average (min. 15 carries) in the NFL since HIGHEST SINGLE-GAME YPC AVERAGE SINCE 1970 (min. 15 carries) Player Date Opp. Car. Yds. YPC TD 1. Obviously, it was a great day, said head coach Mike Singletary. It really was. It s a tribute to our offensive line. It s a tribute to Frank seeing the holes and hitting them. It s a tribute to our outside guys and our receivers doing a great job blocking. Everybody is doing their job in order for those things to happen. He has put in hard work to become an all-around back, and that includes excelling in pass protection. Over the course of his career, Gore has been seen time and time again holding his own against larger defenders in pass protection. Gore, at 5-9 and 217 pounds, takes pride in how he approaches blocking. It s not about size. It s about what you ve got in your chest. I ve got a lot of heart. Gore s passion goes a long way. If he s not practicing or conditioning, he s probably putting in extra hours of film study. He credits his University of Miami running backs coach, Don Soldinger, for stressing the importance of blocking. Anybody can run the ball, Gore told the SF Chronicle. If you want to separate yourself, you ve got to do all three phases. That s why you see all the Miami backs around the league - Clinton Portis, Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee - they all block.

In San Francisco, Moran adopted a group of students in the Brother2Brother/ Sister2Sister Mentoring Program as part of his Foundation s initiatives. Moran has hosted the youngsters at 49ers games, provided them with financial support and taught them the importance of life skills, education, goal setting, hard work and good character. 17 24 MICHAEL ROBINSON RUNNING BACK Michael Robinson has provided the 49ers with a consistent weapon on offense and special teams since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Robinson saw action at running back, fullback, quarterback and kickoff returner in 2008, as he was named a Pro Bowl alternate on special teams. A special teams ace, he has totaled 62 special teams tackles in just three seasons, which includes a career-high 27 stops in Robinson made the transition from college QB to a tough, powerful rusher upon joining the 49ers. GOLDMINE: One of the most athletic and versatile players on the team, Michael is equally adept off the playing field. At Penn State, Michael starred at quarterback and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times. More than a football player, Michael gained reporting experience covering Penn State Basketball and on CSTV s Penn State Primetime programs. Robinson has spent time in the television studio in the Bay Area, meeting reporters and gaining experience behind the camera, and also hosts a segment called The Robinson Report on 49ers.com. 18 ers wide receivers 83 ARNAZ BATTLE (ARR-nez) WIDE RECEIVER As one of the longest tenured 49ers on the team, Arnaz Battle has developed into an all-around threat as a receiver, blocker and returner. The former college quarterback progressed from a special teams standout during his first two years in SF into one of the team s most reliable offensive players. Battle served as the primary punt and kickoff returner for the 49ers in 2004, and provides depth at both positions. A sixth-round selection in 2003, Battle has recorded 176 recepts. for 2,132 yds. and 11 TDs in 74 career games. GOLDMINE: Arnaz s tough, hard-nosed play is described by some as competing with a chip on his shoulder. Arnaz however would express it as playing with an angel instead of a chip in remembrance of his younger brother, Brandon. When Arnaz was 9 years old, Brandon passed away in a tragic drowning accident. That memory is one from which Arnaz draws strength and inspiration. On his upper left arm appears a tattoo of his late brother s face that runs from the tip of his shoulder to his bicep. A quarterback for most of his collegiate career at Notre Dame, Arnaz transitioned to wide receiver as a rookie with the 49ers. Being an option quarterback, I initially didn t have the stride it took to be a receiver and open in and out of my routes. I was kind of choppy in my steps. Just putting all of that together, being in shape and getting my muscles stretched so I could extend my running form was probably the most challenging part of making the switch. I think as far as grasping the playbook and the terminology, I found that I was able to digest it much easier and faster having played the quarterback position. Arnaz learned his moves early on. His father played at North Texas and then as a tight end for two seasons with the St Louis Rams. By the time Battle became interested in football, his dad was mostly on the road as a truck driver, but when he came home, father and son played catch out in the yard. A fourtime Pro Bowler in 14 seasons with the St. Louis Rams, he is known for his precise route-running and tireless work ethic. Bruce led the 49ers with 835 receiving yds., 61 recepts. and 7 TD catches in 2008, marking the 11th time he has posted at least 800 receiving yds. in a single season. Issac is the only the second player in NFL history to eclipse 15,000 yds. receiving HIGHLIGHTS: receiving yards at Arz. (09/13). GOLDMINE: he wishes to become one after his playing days. He was named a 2009 finalist for the NFLPA s highest honor for community service after volunteering his time to numerous Community Tuesday events for the 49ers. While with the Rams, Bruce had earned numerous awards for his community outreach, including the Rams Sprint Good Sport/Man of the Year, Rams True Value Man of the Year and the Carroll Rosenblaum Award. leading by example Isaac Bruce is not a vocal leader, rather a leader by example. Some of the younger receivers, and we ve got quite a few of them, just gather around him and are able to learn the little things about the details about running routes the way you should run them, said head coach Mike Singletary. When you look at someone like Isaac Bruce who is continuing to try and learn, continuing to perfect his craft When you have that attitude, that s a true professional. It s a credit to him, and I m really thankful that when you have guys like that in the locker room, it makes your job as a coach that much better. Bruce s influence is not only felt in the receivers meeting room, but throughout the locker room, especially with All-Pro LB Patrick Willis. He said that your body believes what your mind says, said Willis of a Bruce. He said that s what I do in my spiritual walk and in everyday life. He said I ve been playing this game for a long time. I asked him how his body feels, and he just told me you have to speak good things upon yourself, whether it be about your body, whether it be about your play, and it will come as you speak it. I took that as I might be hurting, but if I tell myself I m going to be alright, I m going to be good. He brings so much to our team. We re grateful to have him. 23 84 JOSH MORGAN WIDE RECEIVER Josh Morgan enjoyed an extremely productive rookie campaign in The sixth-round selection showcased his ability to make the big play as his 3 TD catches all went for over 30 yards. His writing courses were his most enjoyable at Virginia Tech. Josh wants to be a writer of some sort one day and he credits his parents as being the ones who instilled his love of writing as a way to keep him motivated and off the rough, Washington D.C. streets where he grew up. Coming into his own When you initially look at the 2008 statistics, WR Josh Morgan s stat line doesn t jump off the page at you - he registered just 20 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdowns. But, when you take a look at his size, strength and potential (6-1, 219 lbs), that is what offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye is excited about. For a big-bodied guy his size, for a big receiver, he has excellent explosion, Raye said. He s an explosive guy and a great leaper. His circumference range, because of his arms, is very good. He can get to some balls with extension that some guys can t. Morgan has been impressive throughout OTAs and training camp, and started to show where he will be able to help the offense - down field. All of Morgan s touchdown receptions last year were for over 30 yards and he averaged 16.0 yards per reception. He s such a hard worker and a good kid a good young man, said quarterback Shaun Hill. I can t say enough good things about him. Usually, whenever a receiver has a good work ethic, a good attitude and all that talent, something really good is going to happen for him. Morgan knows that it is going to take hard work and determination to be the receiver he knows he can be. I want everybody to say, Josh Morgan is our best receiver, Morgan said. I feel I can make a difference and be a big playmaker on this team, and that keeps me hungry. The sky s the limit, and I m not going to be satisfied until I reach my potential.
