TURNOVERS HAUNT LSU IN SEASON-FINALE LOSS TO ARKANSAS Arkansas turned a pair of LSU turnovers into 14 points as the Razorbacks upset the 24th-ranked Tigers, 14-3, on cold and rainy afternoon in Little Rock on November 24. The loss ended LSU's hopes to clinching a share of the SEC Western Division title and it also snapped the Tigers four-game winning streak. The Razorbacks got all the scoring they would need on LSU's first play from scrimmage as linebacker Quinton Caver intercepted a Josh Booty pass and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. LSU marched down field on its next possession, however, the drive stalled inside the Razorback 10-yard line and the Tigers were forced to settle for a John Corbello 27-yard field goal. Arkansas added another TD midway through the fourth quarter after LSU fumbled a punt. The Tigers managed a season-low 149 yards of total offense, including only 36 yards in the second half. LSU's defense held Arkansas to just 253 yards of total offense. LSU VS. The Tigers beat a Nick Saban-coached Michigan State team, in the 1995 Independence Bowl and they followed that with a 10-7 win over Clemson in the 1996 Peach Bowl and a 27-9 victory over Notre Dame in the 1997 Independence Bowl. LSU beat South Carolina in the Gator Bowl in 1987 before falling to Syracuse, 23-10, on New Year s Day in the 1989 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa. TIGERS LEAD LEAGUE WITH EIGHT ALL-SEC MEMBERS ON COACHES POLL LSU was rewarded for its 7-4 season by having a conference-best eight players selected either first or second team all-sec in the Coaches Poll. Heading the list for the Tigers as first team selections were quarterback Josh Booty, wide receiver Josh Reed and tight end Robert Royal. Booty became the first LSU quarterback to be named All-SEC since Tommy Hodson won the award in Reed becomes the first LSU wide-out named by SEC coaches since Todd Kinchen was honored in 1991, and Royal becomes the first tight end to be named to the Coaches first team David LaFleur in LSU players named to the second team in the Coaches Poll include Brandon Winey at offensive line, linebackers Trev Faulk and Bradie James, cornerback Fred Booker and free safety Ryan Clark. In addition to the Coaches Poll, Louis Williams and Reed were named first team All-SEC by the Associated Press, while Royal and Faulk were members of the second team. SABAN NAMED LOUISIANA COACH OF THE YEAR LSU coach Nick Saban was honored for his turnaround of the Tiger program by being selected at the Louisiana Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writer s Association (LSWA). In his first year with the Tigers, Saban turned around an LSU team that won a combined seven games over the past two years to a 7-4 overall mark and a 5-3 SEC record. The Tigers, who were picked to finish sixth in the SEC Western Division, finished second in the SEC West. REED AND FAULK NAMED HONORED BY LSWA Josh Reed and Trev Faulk were both singled out by the LSWA for their performances this year with the Tigers. Reed, who led the SEC with 1,127 yards receiving, was named the Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year, while Faulk was named Louisiana Defensive Player of the Year. Faulk led the Tigers with 113 tackles, which included nine for losses. BOOTY WAS ON A ROLL DURING LSU S FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK LSU quarterback Josh Booty had the hot hand during the Tigers four-game winning streak in late October and early November. During that four-game stretch, the junior completed 73 of 132 passes for 1,036 yards, 10 TDs, and just three interceptions. On a cold and rainy day in Little Rock, Booty closed out the regular-season by completing just 6 of 27 passes with 2 interceptions and only 65 yards against Arkansas. Booty tied a school-record with four TD passes in LSU s win over Alabama on Nov.4. He was named SEC Player of the Week for his efforts vs. the Crimson Tide. He followed that with a 16 of 30 performance for 290 yards and 1 TD in LSU s 20-9 win over Ole Miss. For the season, Booty has thrown 17 TD passes, which is tied for fourth in school history, and his career total of 24 ranks seventh in LSU history. Tommy Hodson holds both the season TD pass mark (22 in 1989) and the career mark (69). This year, Booty has completed 145 of 290 passes for 2,121 yards, 17 TDs and 13 interceptions. Booty was named first team All-SEC in the Coaches Poll. TURNOVERS (OR LACK OF) HAVE BEEN THE DIFFERENCE The secret to LSU s success this season may be pretty simple - turnovers. LSU is +9 in the turnover column in games in which they have won compared to -10 in losses. In LSU s five SEC wins this season, the Tigers have turned the ball over just five times, while LSU has eight turnovers in its three league losses. LSU has gone without a turnover three times this season, including two of its last five games. LSU didn t turn the ball over in wins over Kentucky (W, 34-0), Western Carolina (W, 58-0) and Alabama (W, 30-28). HIGH-OCTANE OFFENSE AT HOME LSU s success at home this season can be in partly contributed to the Tiger offense. In its seven home games this year, LSU is averaged 34.7 points a contest compared to averaging points in road games. LSU S RED-HOT IN THE RED ZONE LSU enters the Georgia Tech contest having scored 22 of the last 25 times in which it has entered the Red Zone. LSU had scored in 16 straight visits into the Red Zone before the Tigers missed a field goal in the third quarter vs. Alabama. The streak of scoring 22 of the last 25 times in the Red Zone dates back to the Tennessee game on Sept. 30. Since then, LSU has been in the Red Zone 25 times and the Tigers have responded with 16 TDs and 6 field goals. For the season, the Tigers have been in the Red Zone 38 times and they ve scored 22 TDs (11 pass/11 run) to go with 9 field goals for an 81.6 scoring percentage. LSU S D HAS BEEN GOOD ON OPENING DRIVES LSU s defense has done a good job of keeping opponents scoreless on its opening drive as the Tigers have allowed only one touchdown this season on an opening drive. Mississippi State is the only team to score on its opening drive against the Tigers this year as the Bulldogs scored on their second play from scrimmage against LSU on Oct. 21. LSU has kept its opponent from scoring on the opening drive in 15 of the last 16 games, a streak that dates back to the Kentucky contest in Week 6 of the 1999 season.

4 WINEY NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN BY THE SPORTING NEWS LSU offensive tackle Brandon Winey was named to The Sporting News' All-America Third Team. Winey becomes the first Tiger named an All-American since noseguard Anthony McFarland and center Todd McClure were named in REED, TOEFIELD AND LAVALAIS NAMED FROSH ALL-AMERICAS BY SPORTING NEWS Offensive lineman Rodney Reed, tailback LaBrandon Toefield and defensive tackle Chad Lavalais contributions to this year s LSU team didn t go unnoticed as the trio has been selected to the Sporting News Freshman All-America team. Reed and Toefield both earned first team status, while Lavalais, who came on late at defensive tackle, earned a spot on the third team. Toefield rushed for 682 yards and five touchdowns, best among all freshman in the SEC, while Reed started seven games on the offensive line for LSU and was instrumental in the Tigers allowing just 12 sacks for the season. Lavalais started the final three games and posted 22 tackles, including three for losses and one sack. REED HAS REMARKABLE SEASON AT WIDE RECEIVER FOR TIGERS In just his first full season at wide receiver after being converted from tailback in Week 9 of the 1999 season, sophomore Josh Reed threatened to break every receiving record in LSU history. Reed came up just short but he did manage to catch 65 passes (third most in school history) for 1,127 yards (second most in school history) and 10 touchdowns (second most in school history. Reed also tied an LSU record by having six 100-yard receiving games, five of which came in SEC action. Reed, a first team All-SEC pick in three different polls, led the SEC in receiving yards per game with just over 102 per contest and he also ranked second in the league in total receiving yards as well as receptions. Of Reed s 10 TD receptions this season, four have been 45 yards or longer, including a 75-yard score against Auburn. Reed caught a career-best 10 passes in the win over Mississippi State, he scored caught a career-high three TD passes against Tennessee and he had a career-high of 173 yards receiving with a TD against Ole Miss. Reed closed the year by recording 100- yard receiving games in three of the last four contests. Reed seems to save his best for SEC games as in eight league games this season, he caught 53 passes for 688 yards and 9 TDs. Game Receptions Yards TDs Long 1999 at Alabama Houston Arkansas Western Carolina Houston at Auburn UAB Tennessee Florida Kentucky Mississippi State Alabama Ole Miss Arkansas TOTALS PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES One of the most popular stories to come out of LSU this season is the one involving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The point of the story is that in past years LSU players would have a choice between cold cuts and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a snack prior to lights out on the Friday night before the game. Not being aware of how popular the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were with the players, LSU coach Nick Saban just offered cold cuts (as he has always done in his five years at Michigan State) to the players for the Friday night snack. Somewhere along the way, the players pleaded for the return of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and then the deal was struck - win three straight SEC games and they ll return as the Friday night snack. LSU s win over Alabama marked the winning of the bet for the players so the PB&J sandwiches returned to the snack menu for the remainder of the season. ROYAL SETS SCHOOL MARK FOR TD RECEPTIONS BY A TIGHT END Senior Robert Royal, a first team All-SEC selection, set the school-record for TD receptions in a single-season by a tight end with his two scoring grabs vs. Alabama. For the season, Royal has five TD receptions, breaking the previous record of four held by Doug Moreau (1964) and Brian Kinchen (1986). For the season, Royal has caught 22 passes for 340 yards and 5 TDs. TIGERS POST SECOND BIGGEST TURNAROUND IN SEC IN 2000 LSU and Auburn tied for the second biggest turnarounds in the SEC, both improving by four games over its win totals of a year ago. LSU jumped from 3-8 in 1999 to 7-4 in 2000, while Auburn went from 5-6 to 9-2 before its SEC Championship Game loss to Florida. South Carolina posted the biggest turnaround, going from 0-11 to 7-4. LSU SHATTERS HOME ATTENDANCE MARK With the stadium expanded to 91,600, LSU easily broke the school s single-season attendance mark as the Tigers drew 614,704 fans to Tiger Stadium for their seven home games. LSU averaged 87,815 fans per home contest, which included sellouts against Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi State. LSU reset the Tiger Stadium record three times during the year and the Tigers capped their home season with a school-record crowd of 778 for the Alabama game. Josh Booty FANTASTIC FINISHES Not only were the Tigers good this year, but they also became a team that was fun to watch and one that left you hanging on the edge of your seat until the final horn sounded. This season alone, LSU had three of its games decided on the final play. UAB kicked a field goal to beat LSU, 13-10, on the game s final play back in September. A week later against Tennessee, the LSU offense scored on its first play from scrimmage in overtime and then watched as the Tiger defense held Tennesse on fourth down inside the 15 for the victory. The same was true against Mississippi State as the Tiger offense scored a TD on its first possession in overtime and watched as the defense turned away the Bulldogs on a fourth down play to end the contest. LSU also scored 16 fourth quarter points to comeback to beat Alabama in a game that made the Tigers bowl eligible. ROBINSON EXTENDS RECEPTION STREAK With one catch vs. Arkansas, LSU s Reggie Robinson kept his streak of games with at least one catch alive. Robinson has caught at least one pass in his last 28 games, the longest active streak on the team. Josh Reed has also caught at least one pass in 14 straight games, while Robert Royal has caught at least one pass in 11 consecutive games. LSU DEFENSE HAS YIELDED JUST TWO FIRST QUARTER TDS THIS YEAR The LSU defense has allowed only two first quarter TDs this year as only Florida and Mississippi State have found the endzone in the opening stanza vs. the Tigers. Dating back to last season, LSU has held 10 of its last 11 opponents without a first quarter TD. TIGER STADIUM IS ALIVE AND WELL Contrary to some reports earlier this year that said that Tiger Stadium had become an easy place for opponents to play, LSU has proven otherwise as the Tigers finished their home slate with a 6-1 mark in Death Valley, which included a 4-0 mark in SEC games. Dating back to last season, LSU has won three straight games in Tiger Stadium over Top 25 teams - def. No. 17 Arkansas, 35-17, in 1999 finale, def. No. 11 Tennessee (ot) on Sept. 30 and def. No. 13 Mississippi State, (ot) on Oct. 21. Also, dating back to last year, the Tigers have won five straight SEC games at home, the longest streak for LSU since a 5-game streak over a span of the 1995 and 1996 seasons. LSU FINALLY STARTING TO GET SOME CONTINUITY ON O-LINE; SAME COMBINATION TO START FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME After shuffling the offensive line around for the first six games, the Tigers have finally settled on a starting lineup and LSU will start the same unit on the offensive line for the sixth straight game on against Georgia Tech in the Peach Bowl. Through 11 games, the Tigers have used four different combinations on the offensive line. Prior to Week 7 of the season, LSU wasn t able to go more than two games without making a change on the offensive line. Since the Kentucky game, however, the Tigers have been able to stay with the same combination of Rodney Reed (LT), Rob Sale (LG), Louis Williams (C), Dwayne Pierce (RG), and Brandon Winey (RT). That combination has started five straight games, four of which are victories, and they have helped produce 34 points vs. Kentucky, 45 points to go along with a season-best 220 yards rushing vs. Mississippi State and 30 points vs. Alabama. So far this year, the Tigers have had three season-opening starters on the offensive line miss significant time. For the last seven games, the Tigers have been without three players on the offensive line that were starters when the season-openeed. Senior tackle Trey Langely (torn ACL) is out for the season after suffering his injury vs. Houston. Sophomore guard Bob Wynne (neck) hasn t played since the Houston game, while senior center John Compton (concussion) hasn t played since the UAB contest. Prior to that, LSU beat Clemson on the carpet in the Georgia Dome in 1996 in the Peach Bowl, which also marks the last time in which the Tigers have played a game indoors. LSU has won five straight games played in domed stadiums, four of which have come against Tulane at the Louisiana Superdome. LSU s last loss indoors came against Nebraska by a count in the 1987 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

6 THREE TIGERS EARN SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS IN 2000 Three LSU players earned SEC Player of the Week honors this season as quarterbacks Rohan Davey and Josh Booty along with running back LaBrandon Toefield were cited for their performances in LSU wins over Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi State. The following is a look at what each player did to warrant SEC Player of the Week honors: Rohan Davey - SEC Player of the Week vs. Tennessee on Sept. 30. Completed 23 of 35 passes for 318 yards and a school-record tying four touchdowns in the overtime win over No. 11 Tennessee. Hit Robert Royal with a 25-yard TD pass on the first play of overtime for what proved to be the game-winner for the Tigers.
