The Court The court dimensions are as follows: The court is divided into two roughly 30' X 37.5' areas, with activation lines located parallel and 10' from the center line, and end-lines located parallel and 30 from the center line for a total court length of 75' from wall to wall, and a total width of 30' from sideline to sideline. The area between courts is reserved for use by the officials. The Queue for each team is the out-of-bounds area adjacent to their sideline. The above description is based on the use of the Avery Point Gym. However court size may be adjusted to best suit the available space. Equipment 6 regulation size balls should be used: 4 Blockers (8.5") and 2 Stingers (7"). o Ball layout is as follows: Blocker, Stinger, Blocker, Blocker, Stinger & Blocker. A count-down timer. Players Teams consist of 6 players plus any number of extra players. Teams may consist of either gender. Any ratio of men and women may participate, including all male and all female teams.

Extra Players in the Queue Players in excess of 6 line up in the queue and may rotate in on a caught ball or to replace an injured player. o Players rotate into the game in order. o Players waiting in the queue may return balls onto the court. Games A single game lasts for 15 minutes. A point will be scored each time all members of the opposing team are eliminated from play. At this point a reset will occur and the game will continue. The clock does not stop between points. Whichever team has the most points at the end of 15 minutes will be declared the winner. Sudden Death If the score is tied at the end of a game a Sudden Death round will be played to determine the winner: All players participate (6 Max per team). The game will reset and begin with a Rush. The first team to score an out wins. Outs may only be scored by pegging an opponent. Catching a ball will not end the game but will remove the throwing player from the game. Catching a ball rebounding off a pegged player will also save the pegged player from being out. Catching a ball does not return a player into the game. If all players on a team are removed from the game the other team wins by default. League Play A team will play three 15 minute games per night. The regular season is currently scheduled to run for 11 weeks resulting in 33 total games. This is subject to change depending on the total number of teams participating. The team with the best overall game win record (or percentage if games played is not equal) will be declared the winner. The first tie-breaker will be games against followed by total points scored. Any game won by forfeit will be scored as 1-0. The top 8 teams make the Playoffs. Playoffs are a single elimination bracket. Beginning Play Play begins with all players positioned behind their team s end-line touching the wall.

The Rush The Rush occurs at the beginning of each game or reset. Upon the official s signal, both teams rush to center court to retrieve balls. A team may Rush with as many or as few players as it wants, but at least one person from each team has to Rush. A team may only retrieve the 3 balls to their right during the Rush. Players may not dive headfirst across the center line or they will be called out. Crossing completely over the center line will result in an out. Players may not physically grab and pull another player across the center line or prevent them from returning to their side of the court. Balls not retrieved during the initial Rush may later be taken by either team. Putting a Ball in Play During the Rush, any ball retrieved from the center line must be returned behind the activation line before it may be thrown at an opponent. A ball that hasn't crossed the activation line is considered a dead ball, any hits or catches are voided plays. There are several ways to put a ball into play following a Rush. A player carries the ball across the activation line. A player passes the ball to a teammate who is behind or carries it across the activation line. A player rebounds the ball off the back wall of the court. Time Outs There is one 30 second team time out per game. Players in the queue may substitute in during a time out. o Substitutes must enter the game in queue order. o A player starting in the queue can not return to the queue during the same time out. Outs A player shall be deemed "out" when: A live ball hits any part of the player's body, clothing, or uniform. A player is hit by a live ball rebounding off another player, a blocking ball or a ball lying on the court. A defending player catches a live ball they have thrown. A live ball is defined as any thrown ball that has not yet hit the floor, walls or ceiling. Once a ball makes contact with any of these it is considered dead at which time the hit player is out. A ball contacting an out player is also considered dead. Please

note that a ball remains live even if the throwing player is put out while the ball is in the air. Throwing Balls Balls must be thrown from behind their respective Attack Lines. o The Attack Line for Blockers is the center line. o The Attack Line for Stingers is the activation line. A ball thrown from in front of its Attack Line is considered a dead ball. Any hits or catches resulting from that ball are ignored. Catching Balls A defender catching a live ball thrown by an attacking player causes the attacking player to be called out. In addition, a member of the defending player s team may re-enter the game. Catching a live ball that rebounds off a teammate will save that player (or players if multiple people have been hit by a ball) from being called out. In addition, this results in the player who threw the ball being out. Players shall return from the Queue in the order they were put "out" (i.e. first "out," first "in"). Trapping a ball against the floor is not considered a catch. The player attempting to catch the ball is out if the ball was touched prior to it contacting the floor. A player may not drop a ball they are holding in order to catch another ball. A player performing this action is out. Blocking Players can defend themselves by blocking the ball in flight with another ball but must retain control over the ball they are blocking with. A player dropping or losing possession of the blocking ball is deemed "out." Any blocked ball rebounding off another ball is considered live. Any player hit by the rebounding ball is deemed "out." Stalling The act of intentionally delaying the game. If a referee determines that a player or team is stalling, the referee will issue a 5 second warning to that player or team. If the stalling continues, at the referee s discretion, player or team will lose possession of all balls on their side. If both teams are stalling a reset should occur.

Typical examples of stalling are a team possessing all 6 balls for over 5 seconds or an individual possessing a ball for over 10 seconds. Note: Passing a ball over to a teammate or dropping a ball does not reset the time. The Stalling rule is intended to prevent a team ahead in points from delaying the game to ensure a win. As such, it should normally only be called against a team ahead in points or in the case of a tie. Out of Bounds Rule If any part of a player's body touches the center or side line or the floor or walls outside of the playing area, the player shall be deemed "out". Momentum may carry a player out of bounds while making a catch. Providing control of the ball was established prior to going out of bounds. A player may also move out of bounds to retrieve balls but must exit and reenter through the end line of the court and then out the side. A player out of bounds in this manner may not be attacked nor may they catch a thrown ball. Players may temporarily cross over the end-line while dodging, moving across the court or retrieving balls. Players spending more time behind the end-line than is necessary to perform these actions will be issued a warning by the referee. If the action continues or repeats the referee may call them out. A player behind the end-line is considered in play and may catch balls as well as be hit and sent out by thrown balls. Sacrifice Fly An airborne attack, where an attacking player may legally cross the center line to hit an opponent but the ball must leave the attacker's hand before any part of the attacker's body touches the opponent's territory. The attacking player is considered out of bounds once that player contacts the opponent s territory and is therefore out. Prior to the Cull the Weak rule being activated this action may only be performed with a Blocker. Cull the Weak When one team is reduced down to its last player, all balls from either team may be thrown from the center line. If a player returns to play on that player s team than game play reverts back to normal. Headshots Intentional headshots are prohibited. If, in the referee s opinion, a player throws an intentional headshot or throws an excessive number of high thrown headshots the referee can issue a warning to the throwing player. Any future high thrown headshots thrown by that player for the remainder of the game will result in the throwing player being called out.

Referees While it is primarily the responsibility of the players to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated, referees will be used to rule on any situation in which teams cannot agree. If at all possible, a referee should not officiate over a game in which they are a team member. Referee s Responsibilities: Scorekeeping and timekeeping. Stopping time in case of time out or injury. Referees are the only ones who can stop time. Enforcing the stalling rules. Enforcing the out of bounds lines. Ensuring that balls are thrown from behind the attack lines. Ruling on situations in which teams cannot agree. THE REFEREE S DECISION IS FINAL NO EXCEPTIONS! Uniforms Uniforms are recommended but not required.
