Kickoff is :0 at EIU's O'Brien Stadium. The Panthers are after defeating Indiana State, 9, last week while Saginaw Valley is 0. "We played extremely well, particularly on defense, last Saturday in the ISU win so we need to keep the momentum going as we close in on the conference portion of the schedule," said Coach Al Molde. "We don't want to have a setback this Saturday. We saw what can happen when we're not mentally ready to play (Northeast Missouri opening loss), and we don't want to repeat that." This is the first meeting between these two universities who hawe no common opponents. Senior Evan Arapostathis (LaMesa, CAHelix/rossmount CC), who is both the kicker and punter, is booming punts at a 4. p/game average, an increase of nearly eight yards over last year's 4.0 figure.. he's still considerably shy of the school record 4.0 set by Jeff ossett (9), currently punting for the Cleveland Browns. 4 D MOLDE SAYS: "I was especially pleased with our defensive effort last week.. we played hard, aggressive football and created the turnovers... that's the type of play we need each week where we are mentally ready... Saginaw's option attack will be a challenge as I'm sure they will mix it up a bit to throw us off... I expect them to come in here very motivated since Eastern is the first NCAA IAA club they've played. it would be a real feather in their cap to knock us off... they have good size in the lines so we're going to have to be prepared right from the start... it was a big lift for us last week to have James Marable (redshirt freshman running back) perform as he did.. given the chance, he made the most of it and ran extremely hard. with Bernie Holland out, we're in need of someone to spell or allow us to go to a twin set, and Marable gave an indication that.he can fill that role."
