2 The SO Eastern Region Basketball Regional Advancement Event took place on April 2 th & 21 st in the DCU Sports Hall. 265 athletes competed from 14 Eastern Region Clubs over the two day event in both the Individual Skills and Team Events. I wish each athlete the best of luck in the Selection Process for Ireland Games in 214 which will take place in July 213. Please see included in the results pack the process for selections for athletes who competed in this weekend s team sports events. A copy of the grading sheets completed at the Regional Advancement Events will be sent to each club contact. If a club wishes to appeal an athlete s grade you must do so in writing no later than May 3 rd 213. 9 Athletes who competed in Regional Advancement Events on April 2 th & 21 st are eligible for selection for Ireland Games in Limerick in 214. Selections will take place in July 16 th 213 in the Crowne Plaza, Blanchardstown and will be open for anybody to attend. Selection Process Explained: Athletes will be selected based on their individual player grade to form part of a composite Eastern Region Team. The athlete grade(s) i.e. the Grade of the Team(s) selected to advance will be chosen by the Special Olympics Ireland committee for each of the 5 regions and will be communicated to clubs prior to selections taking place in July. Within the selected grade player positions will be considered during the selection process: Football teams of all grades/levels will be comprised of 8 outfield players and 2 goalkeepers. Basketball teams will be comprised of positions based on their level/grade: o Level 1: 2 Point Guards, 4 Guards and 4 Forwards o Level 2 and 3: 6 Guards and 4 Forwards All gold medallists from this year s Regional Advancement Events of the selected grade will be considered for selections first. Based on the number of gold medallists in the selected grade and the quota set for the Ireland Games Team the following will happen: 1. If the number of gold medallists in the selected grade and position equals the Quota all athletes with gold medals advance. 2. If the number of gold medallists in the selected grade and position is greater than the quota set a random selection of all gold medallists in all divisions takes place. 3. If the number of gold medallists in the selected grade and position is less than the quota set all gold medallists advance and a random selection of all silver medallists in all divisions takes place 4. If the quota is not filled by the gold and silver medallists a random selection of all bronze medallists in all divisions takes place The Eastern Region Delegation will have the following teams advance to Ireland Games 214: Football 3 Male 5-a-side Teams 1 Female 5-a-side Team Basketball 4 Male Teams 3 Female Teams Best of luck to all athletes who competed in Eastern Region Team Advancement Events in Selections for Ireland Games
