Golf Ireland A single Governing body for golf in Ireland: The Golfing Union of Ireland (1891) and Irish Ladies Golf Union (1893) are the last remaining single-gender governing bodies for golf in the world. Each boasts a long and distinguished history in the service of their respective members. Today it is widely recognised and accepted that a single governing representative body will be more appropriate and effective in representing the views, needs and aspirations of all golfers across the island of Ireland. Hence, the creation of Golf Ireland. Over the past decade the ILGU and GUI have worked together on a host of joint initiatives, building a solid working relationship and a strong mutual appreciation between the bodies. A unique opportunity now exists to create an inclusive governing body for golf in Ireland. The creation of Golf Ireland will help drive the development of the game and ensure that a healthy and successful future lies ahead for all of Ireland s affiliate clubs. guide for clubs (Golfing Union of Ireland) Source: An essential Both the ILGU and the GUI will hold respective meetings where affiliated clubs will be invited to attend to vote on the Golf Ireland Proposal. The ILGU AGM and the GUI EGM will both take place on 19 th January The Men s club will have a vote at the GUI meeting. The Management Committee of Clontarf Golf Club have directed the Men s Club to vote in favour of the amalgamation.
