Club Lotto The Winning Numbers for the Lotto Draw on Friday Sept 21 st were 3,5,13 & 23. There was no winner of the Jackpot of 6,525. There were 1 Match 3 Winner - well done to Ronan Faherty. The Jackpot this evening will be 6,550 Dates for your Diary - Past Captains Golf & Dinner Sponsored by Niall Rooney Please note change of date to Friday October 19 th. This is in order to facilitate attendance at the Fred Daly National Finals which clash with the original planned date. - All Ireland Senior Cup Finals Galway GC will represent Connacht at the GUI National Golf Finals in Thurles GC on the weekend of Oct 6 th. Thursday Bridge Re-commences Thursday October 4th@ 7.30pm in the dining room. Please contact Sheelagh Kearney with any queries. Applications for Male Membership No Longer Being Accepted Following on from the Club Council meeting on 17 th September last please note that applications are no longer being accepted for ordinary male membership. The application process remains open for ordinary female membership for those aged 45 years and under (until the end of this year) and for those ladies applying on the basis of the full 10,000 entry fee. Course Sanding & Aeration Works Completed since Thursday evening. All 18 greens were double 8 & 3 inches respectively with 3 tonnes of sand used per green. A double over-seed was also completed on all 18 greens. The SGA got the same programme. 300 tonnes of sand in total was applied to 14 of the fairways. Recovery is expected in 2/3 weeks weather dependent. Thank you for your patience during these necessary works.

Through The Green (Rough) A ball that is embedded in its own pitch mark may be marked, lifted without penalty, cleaned & dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. Member Survey Part 2 of 6 The Clubhouse You will have received by now Part 2 of our annual member s survey. Part 2 seeks your views on the clubhouse. The survey will 12 noon Friday Oct 5 th. The survey is 11 questions long and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Please take the time to make your views known good & bad each surveys results are summarised and presented to Club Council prior to the AGM s. This is the 3 rd year of these surveys which allows myself and the Club Council the opportunity to gauge trends in member satisfaction on the various aspects of the club. Many of the issues highlighted by the members in the previous two reports have been actioned. Member Survey to Elicit Information to Help Plan for Jnr Numbers in Coming Years A sub-committee has been set up by Club Council, to be chaired by the current Vice President Shane O Mahony. Its primary task will be to examine the current limits that the club constitution places on temporary juvenile, junior and student membership numbers and to bring forward recommendations regarding same to this year s AGM. As part of their work I have sent out a survey to members which seeks to extract information on the number of possible new applicants for temporary juvenile and junior membership in the coming years. Your responses will help the Sub Committee plan its recommendations and hopefully future proof the clubs ability to cater for junior golf. If you have not received the survey for any reason and wish to do so please just let me know. THIS SURVEY WILL CLOSE TOMORROW SATURDAY SEPT 29 Noon. Men s Golfer of The Year, 2018 Congratulations to Rory Ginty who took the title courtesy of his win in the Mocha Beans Sponsored Oyster Trophy last Sunday. Well done Rory. Change of Date to the Club AGM Please note that Club Council have moved the date for the Club AGM this year to Sunday December 9 th at usual time of 7.30pm. Fred Daly Team To Play Greystones in All Ireland Semi-Final The Caddy met with Fred Daly Captain Cathal Keogh during the week and got his thoughts on their imminent semi-final encounter with Greystones which is taking place in Tramore this Saturday 29th with an 8AM Tee Time.

3 After beating last year s winners and without a doubt pre-tournament favourites Athenry in a pulsating contest over a brilliant weekend of golf last month the Galway lads are looking forward with confidence to bring the elusive title back to the West. The team are after two very tough contests with a narrow victory over a very gallant Roscommon in the Connacht Semi Final and 6 4 win over the 2 legs in the Connacht Final against an Athenry team that was boosted by no less than two Irish Boys Internationals and Senior Connacht Interprovincial panellists Alan Hill & David Kitt. Cathal made the point what was very satisfying over the two matches against Roscommon & Athenry was that all our squad members had at least two victories each and Luke O Neill was unbeaten in all 4 matches and that gave us a great confidence boost right through the squad Luke on his day is the No 1 U18 player in the Country and with reigning Leinster Boys Champion Liam Nolan also in great form Galway will take some beating in the top two games. Gavin Keogh had two great wins in the Connacht Final against a formidable scratch handicapper and although a couple of shots out of the handicap won his matches in great style with golf of the highest quality. Playing at 4 is new member Sean Nohilly and although beaten on 18 in the first leg of the Connacht Final kept his nerve and with loads of bottle sealed Galway s place in the Finals with a brilliant 19th hole victory in Athenry. Playing at 5 is the youngest member of the team, Harry Colbert. Harry who hails from the Gibb s dynasty is a left hander who is boxing way above his weight!! Winner of both his matches against Roscommon where he was giving up 4/5 shots in handicap this young man is never phased and will no doubt hold up his end at No 5. He will again be taking on a 2 or 3 handicapper in his match. Lisburn the title favourites take on local side Dungarvan in the other semi-final. Dungarvan although not fancied will be a tough assignment for the Ulster boys who have Irish International Aaron Marshall at No 1. The Munster Champions have also qualified in the AIG Senior Cup and have a number of that squad playing Fred Daly. Looking forward to the weekend Keogh added we have prepared well and all the lads are in good form. No doubt we will have to play to our best, but if we can replicate our Connacht Final form there is no reason why we can t bring home the Green Pennant. We have a great support team with David Mortimer, Ger O Farrell and Tom Nolan and of course our caddies who play a huge part, Ronan Conneely, David Hickey and Sean Conneely. Last but definitely not least our Club Captain Philip who has been with us all the way. Best of Good Luck to Cathal and all the Squad. Brilliant to get as much support there as we can from the Club. 7 Health & Safety for Golfers Remember Your Responsibilities please. Stand a safe distance from the person swinging the club. Yell Fore to warn fellow golfers of errant shots whether hit by you or not. Do not play under the influence of an intoxicant. Follow all Course Safety Signage. Use the bells where provided to indicate when it s safe to play. Be aware of your surrounding at all times. Take care near all water hazards. Exercise caution around all moving vehicles on the course and in the carpark Pace of Play Our agreed Time Par in Fourball Play is; 4 Hrs & 15 Min s for 18 Holes 2 Hrs & 10 Min s for 9 Holes This is not a Target It is the Maximum Time Allowed Suggestions for Improved Pace of Play Allow Faster Groups to Play Through in Good Time Be Ready to Play when it is your Turn Agree with your Playing Partners a Ready to Play System i.e. If you are Ready & it is Safe then Play! i.e. No Honour (except in Match play) the 1 st Player ready Plays i.e. Players should play their own ball before helping to look for a lost ball i.e. When not playing your shot you should be preparing to play your shot Position Bags & Carts Correctly for a Quick Exit from Hole Mark Scorecards between Holes as you Walk If in Doubt Play a Provisional Ball Watch the flight of the Ball Carefully If each player in a fourball takes an average of just 5 seconds less to play each shot and if each players shoots +10 (80) 80 shots x 5 secs x 4 players = 26 minutes & 40 secs quicker.
